Streaming to AE f/ laptop, sound quality...

is bad compared to my desktop. I didn't think about it, but it made sense. The desktop has an Audigy 2 sound card and the laptop only onboard sound. I'm wondering if I can expect a big jump in sound quality if I use a laptop sound card like the Audigy 2 ZS? Anyone try it? Will the laptap stream to my AE through this card? Of course I guess I'll need a usb wireless adapter, my current one is a slot type.

Are you sure? If a computer doesn't use it's sound card to stream music to the AE, then how does it do it? If a computer did not have a sound card or onboard sound, it could still transmit music to the AE? Now I'm a bit confused.

  • Sound Quality - laptop to LCD via HDMI

    Hi all,
Hope someone can help me as well.
I got dv9000 laptop connected to 40inch samsung LCD VIA HDMI cable. On the other end LCD is connected to onkyo 605 receiver with optical cable. The sound quality is not that good while playing movies from my laptop. When using the HDMI connection, I have selected SPDIF Interface as the default audio playback device. Is there any way I can improve the sound quality.
One more thing, My HP pavillion DV9000 lappy has 2 headphone outputs on the front... Why I got two 3.5mm headphone outputs over there..
    Cheers

    Hi,
Download the following graphics driver and Chipset Drive and save them both to your Desktop.
    Chipset Driver
    Nvidia Driver
Next, in Device Manager, open Display Adapters, right click on the Nvidia graphics chip and select Properties.  Click the Driver tab and then select uninstall.  When done, do the same for the for the Nvidia High Definition Audio Codec and the High Definition Audio Device found under Sound Video and Game Controllers.
Now return to the Desktop and install the Chipset driver and then the Graphics driver.  When complete, restart the notebook.  Check in Device Manager that both the Nvidia Graphics driver and the Nvidia Hi Definition Audio codec have reinstalled successfully and whether you now see the Nvidia HDMI Output option under playback devices.  Do not try setting it as the default device yet, just connect to the Tv and see if it works.

  • How do I improve sound quality when the sync property is set to "stream"

I recently had a problem with timing text with sound (narrator). For example, when a user tapped a button a narrator would read text on the page and the words would highlight as the narrator read the words. The problem I ran into was that it performed well on the desk top but the timing was off on some mobile devices. So I set the sync to "stream" and it worked fine. But I ran into another problem; the sound quality went down, sounding muffled.
How can I make the sound quality better when the sync property is set to "Stream"?

you can control streaming sound quality in your publish settings which can override the sound quality settings that you can set by clicking the library sound's properties (right click/properties).

  • Is there any difference in sound quality in streaming music over Airport Express in IMac, MacBook Pro and iPad?

I've noticed a difference in quality when streaming my iPad wirelessly to my Yamaha receiver and high quality speakers versus my Pro or iMac. The iPad sounds like a toy in comparison to the computers. I'd like some expert advice on what I should expect from the three mentioned devices when streaming wirelessly through a pretty good audio system. Like for instance, should there be much difference in sound quality between the Pro and the iMac?

First, don't hang onto the hope that next year's MBP won't have an optical drive; instead, you'd be advised to purchase a 2011 MacBook Air, which doesn't have an optical drive but relies on SDD. If you need a CD/DVD drive, you can get that separately, if you need. The latest Air has received better reviews than anything else in the Apple lineup.
I'm not an expert on the different brand of keys available. But you'll want to make sure the color is an exactly match to the model. Replacing thes keys is relatively inexpensive but tedious, you might do well to email sellers to guarantee the color and fit.
    Good luck with the repair!

  • Sound Quality Dropped HP stream 7

So i've had my tablet for a month or two now, no troubles, and I don't mind the buzzing in the headphones, but I just tried to watch youtube and noticed that my sound quality was diminished. it was immediate, all sound is static and robotic, making me very very unhappy, how can I fix this? It's happened on my headphones AND using speakers.

I'm not from HP Support / Repair but i can tell you that the actual process of replacement will cost almost as much as a new tablet, regardless of the price of the replacemenscreen.
If you can do it on your own (replacing) i would try finding faulty units on ebay etc. so you can pull the screen from them. Maybe it's an option for you?

  • Odd sound quality with streaming music

I had more than 1 Quick Time clip streaming earlier today and they sounded very odd. I didn't notice until listening to a stream online and then checking songs on iTunes and found similar problems with both. There seems to be uneven volume between elements of a stream and all vocals tend to sound as if they're drenched in reverb or emanating from a cave. I re-started the iMac, but the problem still exists. Anyone else have this problem?
    thanks!

The sound coming from my speakers now just sounds garbled and low in volume, whereas a piano sound from my Reason software sounds fine. Is there any fix to this issue? Thanks.

  • Shared Libraries: sound quality is dreadful!

Holy cow! I've got a diesel gigabit wired network set up in my office. Moved all my music to my laptop, figuring I'd just access it on my desktop via Sharing the Library.
But on listening to a few choice tracks, it turns out the sound quality is terrible when doing this. Downright atrocious. Dreadful. Laughably bad.
I figure it's some sort of dynamic bandwidth adjustment on the part of iTunes… of course I can't tell it to "just use as much **** bandwidth as you want, I've got plenty to burn."
Anyone else have this experience? More importantly, anyone find a way to ease the pain?

I don't see the issue at all and I have been sharing my music for ages.
It sounds the same regardless which device it is streamed to.
I use Airport Express devices in my house (2 of them, one is a 'G' only model, the other is an 'N' model).
Basically I stream music to all devices using just the 'G' network and I don't have sound problems.

  • Airtunes sound quality

I have an iTunes library in my iMac with all the music files ripped from my CDs in Apple Lossless. The iMac is connected to an Airport Extreme as my wireless router and I have 2 Airport Express as repeters. In the iMac I have the Squeezeserver running.
In one of my HiFi systems I have one of the Airport Express connected via Ethernet cable to a Squeezebox. The digital coax output of the Squeezebox is going to a Genesis TimeLens De-Jitter and from there to my PS Audio PerfectWave DAC. The output of the DAC is feeding my Woo Audio tube headphones amplifier.
Last night I connected the digital Toslink output of the Airport Express to the Genesis TimeLens to then follow the same sound chain as above.
I compared the sound of the exact same song (file in iTunes) one from the Squeezebox and the other from Airtunes. To my surprise they sounded different. The sound using the Squeezebox chain was significant better. More focus, better bass, more realistic and with better texture. The sound using AirTunes was lean and difussed with a huge and un-realistic soundstage.
I don't undrestand if I am using the same source file and the same electronics from the Airport Extreme on why it is so different. I tried the equalizer route with minimal success.
Is iTunes or AirTunes doing something in the processing? I would liekto eliminate the Squeezebox solution but not at the cost of quality of the sound.

I am not a big fan of using the AirTunes feature of iTunes because it is not Applescriptable and because you can only output to one stream at a time. The sound quality is quite good as far as I can tell. The only time it suffered is when I was using iTunes on my laptop that was playing from the shared music on my server. The stream would get choppy and sometimes choke, but it is working better after changing my wireless router channel to the other end of the spectrum.
It is really nice that it outputs to optical, preserving the digital signal and eliminating the need for expensive shielded cables to reduce noise from all the other wires behind my stereo.
If I were to do it over, I would have saved the money that I spent on airPort Express to use on my irTrans project.

  • Apple TV Sound Quality

Recently I compared the sound quality of a music track in several ways:
    1. Original CD played directly in Bose Lifestyle.
    2. Same track stored as AIFF on MacBook streamed with Apple TV with TosLink Cable.
    3. Same track stored as AIFF on MacBook streamed with Apple TV with Analog Cable.
1st option gives an excellent and dynamic sound. 2nd option is less dynamic and 3rd option is the least quality.
As AIFF is a non compressed format of the original track of course I expect the same high quality with option 2.
Some advise using a D/A Converter. Is this the solution? Or is there another solution to enjoy the original CD sound quality through Apple TV?
    Regards,
    Cemmy

What are 2+3 running into, the Bose system?
I would not expect the AppleTv analogue out to be of decent quality as it's likely to have dirt cheap components.
As far as 2 goes, I assume by streaming you are not using Airtunes, but playing the track on AppleTV directly. I ask as Airtunes will add adjustments applied in itunes and can sound different to AppleTV direct.
Was the track synced to AppleTV and played or streamed - there could well be differences in sound that you would not expect.
Assuming the CD rip was good AppleTv should just output the bitstream and the amp's D to A converter would largely be responsible for the quality. Assuming this is the Bose DAC, you would imagine it might use the same DAC as for the internal CD, which would make you wonder why - it could be down to a better CD transport in the Bose giving a more accurate bitstream, less jitter or better jitter correction than applied to other inputs.
All very well having a different DAC, but if the analogue input on the amp is not up to par it may not help.
Also check your Toslink input does not have some processing applied eg pseudo surround or similar which could adulterate the sound.
You could also try playing the track via the Macbook directly using a mini-toslink adapter.

  • Is Apple going to manufacture IPAD with improved sound quality?

Is Apple going to manufacture IPAD with improved sound quality?  I don't like to stream movies on IPAD due poor sound quality.

We have no way of knowing Apple's future plans. Speakers or headphones make a huge difference, maybe you can give either of them a try.

  • Sound quality issues on B540-41

I love my computer except for one thing - poor sound quality.
Whatever I try to play, everything sounds so tinny with lack of bass.
I have tried playing about with the Dolby feature but this makes it even worse.
Anyone know how I can fix the problem so I can get some bass. I have downloaded the latest drivers.
    All help much appreciated.

    Hi charter,
There's really very little you can do, to get good bass out of tiny speakers. Even the most expensive TV's, and laptops, have trouble delivering "good" sound out of their internal speakers.
Most audiophiles use an external amplifier, attached to the headphone jack, for controlling, and listening to the sound. Search "headphone jack to rca plugs" for plugs you can connect to the amp. Any amp that handles the RCA input, including a "boom box", would be an improvement, although good amps/speakers can be bought for for much less these days. I use an old Sony A/V for all my players (TV/PC/VHS/BETA/DVD/TURNTABLE). When I play videos through my PC, and A520 All-In-One, it even delivers Dolby 5.1 sound!
Another solution could be a USB Audio System.

  • Sound quality

I'm making a music sampler Flash movie to play in my site.
Just a simple one with play and stop buttons. My music file is MP3
which I set to stream. 44kHz, mono, 16 bit, MP3 compression,
Quality set to Best. I have the mp3 on its own layer in the
timeline and the 2 buttons on their layer, using basic behaviors
for play and stop. When I hit return and play it as a FLA it sounds
great ..... but when I TEST the movie (SWF) and when I Export it
(SWF) to Dreamweaver page and preview in Safari, the sound quality
is terrible.... distorted and trebly. I tried wiping the layer and
doing it over.... didn't help. I checked my settings..... any ideas
    what's wrong?
Thanks for your help in advance.

    I should add..... using iMac G5, OS X 10.3.9, Flash MX 2004
    and DW MX 2004.

  • Sound Quality changes between itunes 8.2.1 and itunes 9.1

I am using itunes and a modified Airport Express as my audio source in my Hifi Stereo system.
It is working so well that I have discarded my high end audiophile CD player.
However I found an issue with itunes consistency from version to version in audio quality.
Here is the experience I conducted:
    Using:
    - a mac mini with Snow Leopard and itunes 8.2.1 and a macbook pro with Snow Leopard and itunes 9.1.
    - Identical Wav (full res 16bit 44.1Khz) files local to each mac.
to be completely accurate the music used was:
Ben Webster Meets Oscar Peterson: T01 The Touch Of Your Lips
Diana Krall Live in Paris: T11 A Case of You
    - in both cases itunes streams to the Airport Express (same one)
-> The result is that the there is a difference in sound between the two itunes, and I would like to understand what changed or why this difference?
If I were to describe the differences I would say that itunes 8.2.1 delivers a softer sound with more medium than itunes 9.1. Itunes 9.1 would have a brighter sound with less medium than itunes 8.2.1.
(On a side note, not relevant for the problem above, but could interest some people: When I access with my mac with itunes 9.1 the itunes 8.2.1 library on the other mac, the sound quality streamed to the AE is poor compared to either itunes version used with local files. I wonder how apple streams the music from one itunes to the next but that music it altered may be compressed in this case.)

    Chris thanks for this answer.
I did check the settings on both Macs/itunes and they are identical. Everything is disabled. The remote volume is also disabled on both.
So the sound quality difference cannot be explained by that.

  • Sky Go sound quality is poor

Sky Go sound quality is poor, hollow and reverb like, and happens with 'on demand', 'on now' and I assume also 'downloads'. Sky Go is a great concept and feature, but this sound issue significantly reduces your enjoyment and deters you from using it. Other broadcaster apps work fine for me, When will this Sky one be fixed?

just to clarify on Omicron's comment "Used Sky Go on my iPad 4 iOS 7  -  no sound problems; " - Do you actually mean no problems, but the sound quality is still poor? The point of this thread is to highlight the ongoing poor sound quality in Sky Go across all platforms, which many people on here suspect is due to overcompression. Could you confirm you are still having these issues, otherwise i am worried moderators may suspect the issue is fixed, which i can confirm from an episode of Blacklist on the train this morning is certainly not the case. Sound is still tinny, quiet and washed out on any downloaded porgram on iOS. Any news on if a fix for this is going to be in an update any time soon???  Omicron wrote:
Hi, Further to my earlier response I have now done the following: Used Sky Go on my iPad 4 iOS 7  -  no sound problems; Streamed a short film from You Tube using my PC - no problems; Installed the BBC iPlayer on my PC and streamed Atlantis - no problem. So I'm reasonably confident that: The sound card on my PC is behaving itself; There is no problem with the original recording on the BBC; There i no problm with the Sky recording on my iPad. One possible conclusion is that Internet Explorer 11 version 11.0.9600.16384, and Google Chrome Version 30.0.1599.101 m working under Windows 8.1 64 bit are not fully compatible with Sky Go. Bob

  • Sound quality of mp3's via apple tv?

Just wondering what it is like. At the moment i stream itunes to my PS3 which sounds great upscaled through my Onkyo 875 amp. Will i get the same kind of sound quality from Apple tv?

AppleTV audio via optical sounds superb through my ageing Yamaha Processor into the main hi-fi.
For audio MP3 etc gets converted to a PCM bitstream by AppleTV for digital out to be handled by the amp.
If connecting via HDMI theer should be little difference.
AppleTV will not upsample audio, from memory my PS3 can do this, but frankly you're not gaining new information just interpolating. Does the Onkyo upsample?
