String values

I have developed the following code to create a value for an
upper voucher number limit, to help test the validity of a user
entered voucher number . . .
var upperVoucher:String = new String();
upperVoucher = String(strYear + strMonthNo + strDayNew +
strHour + strMinute + "01");
trace("Upper Voucher Number is: " + upperVoucher);
For today, August 10th, it generates an upperVoucher value of
tomorrow's date at 00:00 for 01 items. This gives a value of
'20060811000001'. This is then tested for in the following 'if'
condition . . .
else if (VoucherNo >
this._parent.Connect_Check.PreviousValidVoucher and VoucherNo <
upperVoucher) {
If the voucher number for today's date is given as
'20060810124103' (i.e. today's date at 12:41 for 03 items), the
above 'else if' statement is returning this as an invalid voucher
number. I have tested this and can confirm that it works when
tested on it's own for being > the PreviousValidVoucher but
doesn't when tested on it's own for being < the upperVoucher
value of '20060811000001'. Yet . . . and this is the really weird
bit . . . when I force the upperVoucher limit to have a value of
'20060811000001' as per the code below
var upperVoucher:String = new String();
upperVoucher = "20060811000001";
trace("Upper Voucher Number is: " + upperVoucher);
IT WORKS! (with exactly the same value!) . . . Why is this?
What am I doing wrong?

I got it!
I didn't the value being defined as a string was the problem
because it had worked in a previous version of the code.
The problem was that in this new version the value for the
strYear variable was
' 2006' due to the following section of code . . .
//Parsing the Date Logic
var strYear:String = new String();
var strYear = (strDate.slice(28, 33));
So I changed it to . . .
//Parsing the Date Logic
var strYear:String = new String();
var strYear = (strDate.slice(29, 33));
This changed the value in the strYear variable to '2006'
(without the leading space). This corrected my error.
Stupid, really, I should have remembered this from my
previous version when I fixed it then!
There's a lot to be said for version control!

  • Parameters To Include Null Or Empty String Values

    I have a table that has both Nulls & Empty Strings that I want to use as a Dynamic Parameter.  Even though there is an indication of the Null/Empty String value when the parameter prompt comes up, selecting the value of Null/Empty String results in no records being returned.  I have a formula to display the values in the report (where I substitute "Unknown" for the Null/Empty String values), but I am not able to do a parameter on that formula.
    I guess in general, this is a situation of needing to be able to use a Dynamic Parameter based on a formula field.
    Thanks for any assistance!
    Edited by: Dragon77 on Apr 2, 2010 9:39 AM

    I'd use a SQL Command as the data source for the list of values. Something like this... (MS SQL Server)
    SELECT DISTINCT
    CASE WHEN t.StringField IS NULL OR  t.StringField LIKE ''
         THEN 'Unknown' ELSE  t.StringField END AS  StringField
    FROM TableName AS t
    ORDER BY  StringField
    Then use a formula like this in the selection criteria.
    IF {?Parameter} = "Unknown"
    THEN (ISNULL ({TableName.StringField}) OR {TableName.StringField} LIKE "")
    ELSE {TableName.StringField} = {?Parameter}

  • How to get string value from xml in JSF??

    In JSF How to get string value from xml, .ini and properties file. I want to get string value from xml or text to JSF

    Just use the appropriate API's for that. There are enough API's out which can read/parse/write XML, ini and properties files. E.g. JAXP or DOM4J for xml files, INI4J for ini files and Sun's own java.util.Properties for propertiesfiles.
    JSF supports properties files as message bundle and resource bundle so that you can use them for error messages and/or localization.

    In the above code im geeting project D which is an integer value. But not able to get the project name.
    Please some one guide me.

    As I said in the other thread, this really isn't the place to ask questions about a database API unrelated to the Illustrator SDK. You're far more like to find people familliar with your problem on a forum that is dedicated to answering those kinds of questions instead.

    </html>I am trying to get a String value for rs.getString() but for some reason this is not working out. Is there anything I can do to get the values for the queries in a String value?
    Thanks,

    When a ResultSet is returned to you, it is always positioned before the first row.
    You need to insert a rs.next(); after your executeQuery().

  • How do I know if I can convert a String value to an int value or not?

    Hi,
    I want to know how to make the judgment that if I can convert a String value to an int value or not? Assume that I don't know the String is number or letters

    Again, why?One of the problems (have been dued) in my codelab asks us to write a class as follow
    Write a class definition of a class named 'Value' with the following:
    a constructor accepting a single integer paramter
    a constructor with no parameters
    a method 'setVal' that accepts a single parameter,
    a boolean method, 'wasModified' that returns true if setVal was ever called for the object.
    a method 'getVal' that returns an integer value as follows: if setVal has ever been called, it getVal returns the last value passed to setVal. Otherwise if the "single int parameter" constructor was used to create the object, getVal returns the value passed to that constructor. Otherwise getVal returns 0.
    The setVal(int y) returns nothing, so how do I know whether it has been called or not?

  • Can't assign a string value to a member of type TEXT in Calculation Manager

    I can assign a string value to that member of type TEXT using a run-time prompt of type StringToNumber.
    Example: "My Text Member" = {string_rtp};
    However, I need to accompllish the same function without using a run-time prompts.
    I have a planning application and I know that text along with all other non-numeric
    values are stored on the relational side in the planning application schema.
    It seems reasonable to assume that if this can can accomplish
    with a run-time prompt that I could do also do it without a run-time prompt.
    What appears to be lacking is a function like:
    "My Text Member" = @StringToNumber(<String Literal>);
    Clearly, this is already being done "under the covers" for run-time prompts. If
    would appear to be a minor enhancement to expose such a function to developers.
    NOTE: I suppose you would also need to add new syntax/function to identify a string
    literal from say a member name. I'm wondering if this is the more difficult challenge
    from a product perspective????

    When executing a Calculation Manager rule in Planning, the run-time prompt (RTP) is populated by looking up the outline information present in the relational Planning application database. If the RTP is of type TEXT, the strings displayed in the member select are from the from the relational Planning application database too. Subsequently when executing the Rule, the RTP's value is in fact the record ID (a number) which is then saved into the appropriate intersection in Essbase.
    You need to bear in mind, the Rule is executed in Essbase. If Essbase needs to "write" a text, it would then need to connect to the Planning relational database to create a new record. The newly created record ID then needs to be feed back to Essbase, in order to store it in the appropriate intersection.
    What you are suggesting, comes with a big overhead causing Essbase and the rule to slow. Thus, the disadvantages outweighs the advantages.

  • How to generate a Unique key based on a some String value

    Hello every one,
    I am sorry , If I post this question in wrong group... I have a requirement to generate a unique key ( what every it may be alpha, numeric or alpha numeric) based on some String..
    For ex : String str = "AbCX" - Gives a unique key based on "AbCX" value..
    Is there any way we can get the unique value using Java ?
    Thanks

    May be not what you are looking for, but here's may idea:
    use a sequence (db sequence) and add it the the string value. This way the value is unique, because the sequence is unique. So you could omit the string theoretically, but your requirement is met.
    It's very easy to get a unique sequence number from the db using java, depending of the technology you use (which you did not say :-( )

    Hi DH, sorry for not being clear.
    It works when I create the connection from that web part that you want to be connected with the Query String Filter Web part. So let's say you created a web part page. Then you could connect a parameterized Excel Workbook to an Excel Web Access Web Part
    (or a Performance Point Dashboard etc.) and you insert it into your page and add
    a Query String Filter Web Part . Then you can connect them by editing the Query String Filter Web Part but also by editing the Excel Web Access Web Part. And only when I created from the latter it worked
    with multiple values for one parameter. If you have any more questions let me know. See you, Ingo

    Hi ART,
    You can also use the LimitLoader step to load your string into to step similar to the Numeric Step type.
    There should be an example of this in the Resource Library | TestStand

  • How to align a String value to the right side inside a table column?

    Hi,
    I have a text view inside a table column which is mapped to a string attribute. I need to align the text in the text view to the right hand inside the table column. But its always getting aligned towards the left side. I have tried by setting the <b>hAlign</b> property of Element properties of Text View to <b>right / forced right</b> but still the text is getting aligned to the left side.
    How do I align the String values in Text View towards the right hand side inside a Table Column?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sayan Ghosh

    Hello Sayan,
    if i do get it right, you are adding an TextView element to a Table Cell. Then you should consider setting aligment within the particular cell. By calling:
    YourCell.setHorizontalAlignment(CellHAlign.RIGHT)

  • How to update a string value located on the main VI

    Hello
    I would like, from a subVI, to update a string value located in the main VI (using References). I was trying to find examples on NI web page but it´s impossible to download them (for more than one month : Error, File Not Found), do everyone has got the same problem?
    Thanks for your answer
    Nicolas

    Hi,
    this is from LV help file:
    Complete the following steps to create a subVI that includes a control reference directly from a Property Node.
    1.On the block diagram, right-click the front panel object terminal for which you want a control reference and select Create»Property Node from the shortcut menu to create a Property Node implicitly linked to the object. You can have multiple Property Nodes for multiple front panel objects.
    2.Use the Positioning tool to select the new Property Node and select Edit»Create SubVI from menu. LabVIEW automatically creates a control reference to the control on the block diagram of the main VI, creates a subVI that contains a control refnum wired to a Property Node, and wires the control reference on the main VI to the
    control refnum input terminal of the new subVI.
    Note: Select several Property Nodes at once to create a subVI with multiple control refnums and Property Nodes.
    3.Double-click the subVI to open it. Modify the Property Node and other elements of the subVI as you do in any other VI.
    4. If you want to change values of control then select "Value" property in Property node.
    I've attached the examples.
    Good luck.

  • A more efficient way to assure that a string value contains only numbers?

    Hi ,
    I'm using Oracle 9.2.0.6.
    I was curious to know if there was any way I could write a more efficient query to determine if a string value contains only numbers.
    Here's my current query. This SQL is from a sub query in a Join clause.
    select distinct cta.CUSTOMER_TRX_ID, to_number(cta.SALES_ORDER) SALES_ORDER
                from ra_customer_trx_lines_all cta
                where length(cta.SALES_ORDER) = 6
                and cta.SALES_ORDER is not null
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,1,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,2,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,3,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,4,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,5,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,6,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')This is a string where I'm finding A-Z-a-z characters and '/' and '-' characters in all 6 positions, plus there are values that are longer than 6 characters. That's what the length(cta.SALES_ORDER) = 6 is for. Also, of course. some cells are NULL.
    So the question is, is there a more efficient way to screen out only the values in this field that are 6 character numbers or is what I have the best I can do?
    Thanks,

    I appreciate all of your very helpfull workarounds. The cost is a little better in all cases than my original where clause.
    To address the discussion that's popped up about design from this question, I can say a few things that should clear , at least, my situation up.
    First of all this custom quoting , purchase order , and sales order entry system WAS written by a bunch a of 'bad' coders who didn't document their work and then left. We don't even have an ER diagram
    The whole project that I'm only a small part of is literally trying to put Humpty Dumpty together again and then move it from a bad custom solution into Oracle Applications.
    We're rebuilding, documenting, and doing ETL. This is one of your prototypical projects from hell.
    It's a huge database project so we're taking small bites as a time. Hopefully, somewhere right before Armageddon hits, this thing will be complete.
    But until then,..., well,..., you know the drill.
    Thanks Again.

    In your post you ask how to convert a string value to a date.  The value returned from the Get-AdUser is already a date.  It does not need to be converted.
    Bill has sshown one way to convert a date to a string and there are other methods.  You need to clarify your question.
    If you are really trying ot convert strings to dates then you can start with this:
    [datetime]'01/21/1965 13:33:23'
    Most date strings aer autodetected by the class.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Can I pass a string value to a double numeric indicator?

    I am doing a sequence of tests and saving each tests datas. When I bypass one of the tests, I need the string value 'BP' to get saved ( in the double numeric indicator ) for that particular test. Is there any possible way to do that?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The numeric indicator works like a "Format into String" function with a hardwired numeric input.
    So it really is a string indicator in the end.
    You can use the "Format String" property node to modify how the numeric is displayed.
    (Also available in Display Format ... --> Advanced Edit Mode.)
    I don't think you can avoid displaying the numeric value, but you can add text.
    So you could, for example, display: "0  BP".
    Format string normal = "%#.2f";
    Format string adding "  BP" text  = "%#.2f  BP";

    *Note however, that this technique can be used to do interesting things like add Units to your numeric indicator.*
