Struts and select onchange

Question

I am using Struts to create a page containing a form with a select. I'm trying to get the form submitted any time the option selected changes. An excerpt follows:

<html:select property="state" onchange="submit();">
          <html:option value="none">Select a state</html:option>

</TR>
</TBODY>
</TABLE>
<html:submit property="submit" value="Submit" /><html:reset />     
</html:form>
I cannot seem to get the onchange attribute to do anything. I've tried using "submit()" and "submit();" and even defining new JavaScript functions that eventually invoke submit(). Nothing seems to work. If I actually press the Submit button, things work as expected.
Can anyone offer some advice?

Try onchange="this.form.submit();"
I even have onchange="this.form.action='/otherAction.do';this.form.submit()";
on some of the html:selects to dynamically change the action and it works fine (this refers to the current element, which happens to be a html:select, which belongs to a html:form, which we want to submit. Thus the syntax this.form.submit() = submit the form which this current element belongs to).
