Stub movie, mac path on pc

Hi,
I have to have my application in a folder because there are hundreds of movie. So I am making a stub movie that is at the top level on the disc. The stub movie has to open a movie inside the folder. I am using Director MX 2004.
I am working on a PC and the .exe works on the PC. I can't get the mac version (.osx and .classic) to work when I test it on the mac. It does not find the movie. The script I have on the stub movie is as follows:

to me this is so simple ... but it doesn't work! Has anyone got any idea what is wrong?

Hi Rafa,
I've spent all night trying to find out why this doesn't work. When I run the projector on the Mac, I get the message "the application Projector quit unexpectedly." When I run it on the pc it just quits without any message.
I was wondering if it was because the app is already open, because the projector is simply trying to open another movie. So I changed it to open a .pdf document, but it is exactly the same, the application quits.
I tried putting in a non-existent file name, hoping it will tell be it can't find the file, but it still quit.
I have got it to work on the dswmedia folder that contains all of my director movies. The folder that it is supposed to work on has shockwaved movies, ie .dcr. The stub moive is the simplest movie with exactly the code you suggested, and one instance of the code in the first frame of the movie, but when I use the projector to open the director movies, even though it works, it seems to open, then close, and then open again successfully, all within 2 to 3 seconds. But it crashes when trying to open the shockwave movie.
Another test was to run this code in the development environment, ie, before I turn the stub movie into the .exe. In the director movie it does nothing. I would have thought that it would open the movie that I want in the dswmedia folder. But it does nothing. Is this right?
You say you haven't used it to open and EXE or APP, but I don't want to open them either. I want this code inside the EXE and APP, and I want it to open a .dcr movie which is inside a folder called dswmedia.
I do appreciate your suggestion Rafa. I hope you or someone can understand what I am trying to do and help me. I still can't understand why it is so difficult. Surely this is quite a common way of delivering and application.

Problem porting educ app to Mac - paths etc?

I am trying to make one of my educational applications also work on a Mac. I generally work on a PC, but have borrowed a Mac to test my projectors. I seem to have been able to create a Mac projector that launches but I ran into a problem becuase I don't know how to hard code a Mac path. My projector launches from a folder I created in the Applications folder called My App. The opening screen comes up and then I need to click a continue button to go to the next movie which is on my web site. In windows, my continue button script says something like:
gotoNetMovie "http://mywebsite.com/login.dcr
Then after acessing that .dcr, the program has find the next file back in the application folder on the hard drive. For windows I have an install path field that students can change with a default of c:\Program Files\My App\
The program then combines the contents of this field with the next program file name:
gotoNetMovie field "path" & (nextMovie & ".dcr")
For the Mac, I tried editing the default path to /Applications/My App/ but the .dcr on the web site can't find the next movie on the hard drive. I really do not understand Mac paths, so I need some help please! If you can tell me what to type in the path field that would be great.
I also tried downloading the Lingo manual for the Mac version of Director hoping it would show some paths and provide some insight into Mac programming but the slightly older version of the Mac Book I am using (its not a new Intel architecture) would not open the compressed file and I am totally unfamilar with these file types so I couldn't open them.
I know I will also run into a problem with plugins and will have to test for platform and change the plugin code respectively right?
Is there a guide somewhere for Windows developers called "Mac for Dummies?" or will I have to ask all of my dumb questions here?

Since you are running a projector, and you can't guarantee where a user will place your Mac application, you would be much better served by creating paths based on _player.applicationPath (which at run time points to the folder on the HDD where your projector is). Either that, or set a global variable at startup that contains this path and refer to this variable when you need to navigate between movies.
Also, although your login file resides on the internet, I don't think you need to use gotoNetMovie() as you aren't running in Shockwave. You could use
_movie.go(1, "http://mywebsite.com/login.dcr")
to go to your login movie, and
_movie.go(1, _player.applicationPath & "nextMovie") -- no extension necessary
to go to your next movie, thus removing any need to know where anything is installed.

"move database-path" not available

Exchange 2010 sp3
now I have a spare drive where I can move the old databases to the new databases. problem is when I right-click on any databases to be moved, the option "Move Database Path" is not available. it's not even listed.
how can I move my databases to the new drive then?

Are you selecting the database from the "Database Management" tab in Organization Configuration node in EMC?

Converting a shell path to mac path

Anyone have an idea on how to turn a shell path to a mac path without using AppleScript via osasscript?
That was my first idea, but it was dreadfully slow.

Move .mac website from one account to another-delete the old

I am a rookie at iweb and .mac, but I love them so far. I have created a website in iWeb 06 under my trial .mac account. We are going to sign up, but under a new user name. my question is, can I publish my current site on the new account, and delete the info on the web for my old account? I'd love any ideas.

Yes, as soon as you enter your new .Mac information in the System Preferences, iWeb will use that information to logon to the correct account and you can publish to your new account then.
As for removing the old site from the trial account. You can just delete the site from your iDisk or do it this way:

RDC with Mac Laptop and Second Screen - Cannot move Mac Windows onto RDC Screen

The older version of RDC 2.1.1 works perfectly with an additional screen. With the new version 8.0.10, although you can launch and use RDC, you can, no longer, move a window over onto the second screen. So RDC works fine, but you do not have the flexibility
of using both screen while RDC is running. This is clearly a backward step from 2.1.1.

There is one expected MAC behavior as on Mac only one app gets focus when you go full screen.

Can't manipulate single anchor point - only move entire path

Neither using the direct selection tool nor holding command (I'm on OS X) while using the pen tool will allow me to move individual achor points, I am only able to move the entire path.
I can add and delete anchor points, but I am only able to control the handles on newly formed anchors, holding the space bar does not allow me to move new points either.
Is there a setting somehwere that I'm missing that will allow direct selection to work properly?

Turned on Smart Guides (cmd-U) and that seems to have taken care of it.

Cannot find or move mac mail data

I recently reformatted the hard drive of an intel macbook pro, installed 10.5.7, and used migration assistant to restore user files. After starting Mail, it asked to import messages, which it did fine. However, upon inspecting ~/Library/Mail, there is no longer a folder for the POP account in question, only a file entitled "envelope Index", which is small compared to the size of the original mailbox (~ 1 GB). Although all the main was present and could be read (including attachments), the mail did not appear to exist anywhere on the computer.
Confused, I deleted the entire ~Library/Mail folder, and disconnected the machine from the external drive containing my mail archives. I then restarted Mail, assuming there would be no messages. However, after restarting, it asked to import mail, I said OK, and it re-imported the messages, apparently from nowhere. The machine was disconnected from the external hard drive, and the mail folder had been deleted, yet there the messages were, intact and readable.
Apparently Mac Mail is using some kind of hidden files to store mail, which is very disconcerting because it now means one cannot trust the finder to move and backup mail files. I'd appreciate it if someone could educate me on where Mac mail is actually storing the mail, since it is apparently no longer in the ~Library/Mail/POP-<account> folder...

Finally figured this out, and the answer is a bit scary...
This mail account was originally established under OS 10.3 (Panther). In those days you could specify the Mail home directory in the Advanced tab of Mail preferences. In this case the HDD had 3 partitions, including a dedicated volume entitled "Mail". The mail was kept in Volumes/Mail/MailFolder.
When the new mac was established under 10.5, Migration Assistant copied the com.apple.mail.plist file to the new drive. When a new account was defined with the same name as the old one, the mail was imported to a unix directory Volumes/Mail/Mailfolder, even though this directory did not appear in the finder. The mail did not seem to exist anywhere because the directory did not appear in the finder, and the Mail prefs did not allow you to see where the directory was. What is especially odd is that if the directory was deleted, it would regenerate every time the mail was reimported.
Solution was to delete the plist and start the import over again. In this case the mail was imported properly to Library/Mail.
Rather scary, since it seems Mac Mail was writing to a partition that does not appear, even in Disk Utility. Does that mean it was overwriting space of another partition? If so, it seems to be a major hole in the OS.

Flash exe (PC) to mov (MAC)

Hi all, does anyone knows a decoder that input exe files from flash and output something readable on a mac ? I suppose before exe it can be outputed to swf but i only have access to the final exe from the client that works with pc, and i need it to create a new dvd (i'll need to deconstruct and rebuild again as a final mov).

I have Intensity Pro HDMI capture card. One windows computer can play back that exe and another can record that video at SD or 720p or 1080p. This way any interactivity does not slow down recording.
You can also decompile that exe to fla with flash decompiler, open it in flash cs4 and export it as a mov-file, when there is nothing interactive. Otherwise it needs some editing to output all.

Shake on a new Mac (path to scripts is different)

I have recently moved Shake from a G5 to a Mac Pro.
If I open Scripts I created on the G5 the path to my data volume (which is the same external drive I was using) is relative to the G5
i.e. there is an identifier in the path (....g5/Volumes/Scratch Disk/...etc)
Is there a way to change this path globally in Shake to remove all the bits before Volume?
Otherwise I have to reload every File-in for every project!

Have realised this probably can't be done because the problem is in each Script file (not a Shake pref).
Ok have found a workaround.
If I change the path in the Script using textedit for each FileIn, that works (a lot quicker copy/pasting than manually loading each piece of media).

Movie clip path

Ok this is driving me crazy. It is pretty simple. I just want
a button I click to tell another movie clip to gotoAndPlay(2); and
when I click the button nothing happens. I know the path is correct
because I have the other movieclip in the _root section and it is
named site_mc so the actionscript says on(press){
_root.site_mc.gotoAndPlay(2); } and nothing happens. any
ideas?

The buttons are working. I am not sure what was wrong other
than operator error. I do notice the movie clip has a white margin
on the left and a white margin on the top. What parameter should I
be using to center the movie clip in the window and to position the
movie clip at mid spot of the scrollable instead of at the
top?

Facebook "Words with Friends" Tiles won't move - MAC computer

MAC computer - OS X Version 10.9.4 - Firefox browser version 31.0
I've had this problem for several months.
The letter tiles in Words with Friends in Facebook no longer move.
They move in other browsers (Safari, Chrome) but no longer with Firefox. Other Facebook games work but I cannot move the tiles in Words with Friends.

You can manage the certificates in the Preferences > Advanced > Certificates > View Certificates
However looking in the lists of each, I cannot find a certificate for words with friends of Facebook, I may not be useful there.
However this bug for the error seen in the console: [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=430703] says that OpenSSl became stricter, but this is an old bug.
Today the error was different, but the page still loaded:

When you Export to QuickTime Conversion in FCP, you can set the Options for uncompressed AVI, both video & audio. There will no noticeable quality hit doing that.
Assuming both the Mac & the PC are on the same network, then you could transfer that (very large) file via Ethernet to the Windows PC. If they're not on the same network, then use a firewire drive to transport the file to the PC (but you'll have to format the drive properly for this dual use.
It's easier if the two computers are on the same network.

Flash installer gets stuck on 35% and won't move (Mac Yosemite)

Hi all, I posted my problem a week ago on the wrong board I think! and didn't get nay answers so hopefully will have more luck here :) I have always had Flash on my Mac (Yosemite) always updated no problem. It said today I needed to update it so clicked on the install button and did the usual but it keeps getting stuck around the 30/35% stage. I have followed steps on Adobes help pages, tried installing Flash and then re-installing but it keeps doing the same thing! Any ideas on what it could be thats stopping it ??
