Stubborn playlist won't xfer to iPod!

All my playlists will go, but there is one, with lots of new & purchased tunes, that just won't transfer. The error message is "get updated software" but I HAVE the latest. Any idears? Manythanks. M.

To see if you indeed have the latest software installed on your iPod, read this article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61688
You probably downloaded the newest iPod software, but did you run the actual updater?
The latest one is called 'iPod Updater 2005-11-17' and is located in ~/Applications/Utilities/iPod Software Updater

  • Music/playlists won't syns to ipod?

One day I go to sync my ipod to find all my music and playlist have vanished from my ipod, yet remain fine on my itunes library. There are no playlists under devices when I plug my ipod in, everything on it has gone.
When I do attempt to sync my music to try and get everything back to my ipod this message appears: Ipod cannot be synced because all playlists selected no longer exist.
I tried restoring to factory settings but a message appears saying there has been some error (1418).
If anyone could help I would appreciate it very much.

    Select the iPod in iTunes.
    Click the Music tab.
    Tick Sync music.
    Tick Selected playlists.
Tick the playlists you want to sync to the iPod.

  • New songs and playlists won't sync to iPod since 8.0.2

I have an 80gb iPod classic. I have made numerous failed attempts to sync new songs and playlists since downloading this latest 8.0.2 version of iTunes.
When I plug in my iPod it shows up in iTunes, when I sync it iTunes shows a progress bar, then it tells me that the sync is complete and I disconnect my iPod when prompted. However, when I attempt to locate the song and/or playlist on my iPod, they are no where to be found, but I can still locate them on iTunes. I have roughly 10gb of files on the iPod, so I don't have any issues with available memory.
    +Somebody please help!!!+

Have you tried clicking on the ipods name then go to movies and click sync movies and do the same with the playlists and it should work (:

  • Happy Tree Friends - one episode won't xfer to iPod

To all others who subscribe to the "Happy Tree Friends" video podcast, did you have any trouble with the one called "Eyes Cold Lemonade", dated 06/19/2006 transferring to your iPod?
For some odd reason this one download ok to iTunes but won't transfer to my iPod. Later when new episodes came along, they transferred just fine, but not that one. Anyone else?

I am not exactly sure what you mean convert it though iTunes. I do download it from the iTunes store with iTunes so it is already in iTunes. Is there another menu item you are suggesting I invoke to see if that fixes it?
One problem, well more of an issue than a problem, is that since I run 10.3.9, I still run QT6 (whatever the last version was) instead of QT7. So I wonder if "converting though iTunes" requires QT7 to properly deal with video for iPod. I know when I try to play the videos in iTunes, I can not see the actual video, but just here the audio, but they always display fine on my iPod.
Which brings up another question. Where does iTunes store video podcasts? Is it in the regular iTunes library somewhere (a quick look last time I thought about it turned up nothing) or are they squirreled away somewhere else? I think I checked the movies folder and didn't see them there either. Perhaps I should try a good old file serch on my machine before asking these questions, eh?

  • Smart playlists won't play on video ipod after upgrade to itunes version 7

Upgraded to ITunes version 7 on Windows XP using Video Ipod with firmware level 1.2. Resynced Ipod after Itunes upgrade. Now when I hit ipod's play button on a smart playlist, nothing happens. If I hit play button from itunes, no problems...
Is this a known issue with a solution? I was unable to find a solution in the forum. Thank you for any assistance.

This problem only occurs when podcasts are included in the playlist. Full restoration of IPOD did not resolve problem.
Contacted Apple support after a 45-minutes hold time; the support staff were not helpful. Won't invest in a support agreement with Apple going forward...

  • I have an ipod touch 4th generation and have just recently downloaded the new update. I was wondering why the videos that I had added in my playlist won't show up.

I have an ipod touch 4th generation and have just recently downloaded the new update. I was wondering why the videos that I had added in my playlist won't show up. Is there anyway that I could get my videos to appear in my playlist? They are still in my ipod in the video section, but just won't appear in my playlist.

iOS6 problems aplenty ....not sure if the link I inserted is working or not, but the issue is a lot more prevalent - the issue being that what shows up & plays in iTunes after the iOS6 update is not what shows up (& plays) on the device itself. This may go beyond just the iPod Touch as well.
In my case I can see & play both audio & video files in my Playlist through iTunes, but can only see the Playlists on the iPod Touch with ALL of them being empty. Syncing numerous times no help. Contacting Apple Tech. Support no help - they suggested downloading my Purchases from the iTunes Store - waste of time, did not make a difference. It is clear Apple needs to release a fix to OS6.
Another problem I noticed on the device is that the Shuffle option is hidden on the built-in Songs Playlist, having to swipe the screen down to see it - dumb dumb dumb.

  • Ipod Touch 4th gen won't sync after Ipod restore

My Ipod wouldn't sync new music I put added to my playlists so I restored my Ipod to it's original settings because I felt it was needed. Now after my Ipod is done it's restoration I tried to resync. Still won't work and I'm baffled as to what could be the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    It's Ipod Touch 4th gen, 32gb.

    Hi LittleBear,
Can you describe your problem further? Are you getting any error messages in iTunes? Just appearing to sync as normal?

  • Album Artwork won't show on iPod Touch

I am running iTunes 10.6.3.25 on my Windows Vista laptop and iOS 5.1.1 on my iPod touch. I have transferred some new albums to the iPod and the album artwork don't show on the iPod. It does show up in iTunes and if I look on my iPod through iTunes, I see the artwork when I "get info" but it won't show up on the iPod itself. Anyone out there having the same problem?

I have had this problem since iOS4 and I recently (mostly) resolved it in iOS6.
    1. First make sure you do not 'Sign In' into iTunes store.
    2. I used playlists to resolve the issue. Create a playlist with one song, preferably one that does not have any album art.
    3. Create another playlist with all the songs you want to add.
    4. With your iTouch/iPhone attached open iTunes. Go to Device->Music. Under Sync Music:choose "Selected playlists, albums and genres". Choose the one song playlist from those shown. Click on the Sync(Apply) button. This will delete all of the songs.
    5. Once the deletion is complete choose the playlist with all the songs. Click on the Apply(Sync)button. This will install all the songs again and with album artwork.
    6. Once all the songs have been installed click on all the playlists that you want to add (no new songs) and click on the Sync(Apply) button again.
You should now have your songs with album artwork and playlists installed. Hope this helps. The song in the one song playlist won't have any artwork even if it is included. There were some albums whose artwork were not installed. I had a 95% success rate. As I said, it mostly solves the problem for me.

  • Playlist won't sync

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a new ipod classic, because my old ipod touch was full.
I created playlists on my ipod and dragged al my prefeered music in it. Eveything worked fine !
Now since yesterday the playlists won't update anymore ?? When I check "music" on my ipod I can see the songs are on it, but they don't appear in the desired playlist.
Even if I go to "artists" on my ipod I can see the songs, but they won't appear in the playlists on my ipod ??
Could someone please help me ??
    Thanks a lot !

Dragged? I'm not aware you can drag to a playlist on the iPod, do you mean you created an *On-The-Go Playlist* and added songs to it using the press-and-hold method?
Playlists work slightly differently on the iPod Classic.
On the Touch, (you will recall that) you create a Playlist, name it and then add songs to it. Even after a Sync with iTunes, you can edit those Playlists on the Touch. (But the original list would be used after the next Sync.)
And here's the difference, on a Classic you create an *On-The-Go Playlist,* add songs and save it (if you wish). The iPod names it as *New Playlist 1.* When you Sync the iPod, the Playlist gets re-named as *On-The-Go X* (where X is the next number up from the last one used). {No, I don't know why, the re-name only began after a recent update.} Once that Playlist is on the iPod as an On-The-Go list, you cannot edit it on the iPod.
So if you do want to add to an existing Playlist, while using your iPod, you would need to create a new On-The-Go and save that as another *New Playlist.* After a Sync with iTunes you would need to combine the two Playlists in iTunes and then Sync that to the iPod.
So, have a look for the playlist under the name "On-The-Go X* and make sure when you Sync your iPod that you have selected the sync option for Playlists.

  • How do you manage Playlists on a manually managed iPod Classic?

I'm going to get an iPod Classic since I have a huge music collection.
Most of this music is not in iTunes, and won't fit on my computer.
I have read that I can set iTunes to "Manually manage music and videos" for the device.
Then I can simply drag and drop music onto the iPod from the Finder (e.g. from an external drive).
But I also want Playlists on the iPod.
(Not the songs in iTunes on some playlist -- just the listing of some songs.)
Can I compose playlists (that reference the MP3 files I am downloading) in some fashion,
and then drag them over to the iPod, and have it recognize them as playlists for the music
files that I have dragged onto the iPod?
I am imagining this would involve creating/editing some XML files with some magic names
or extensions and dropping them onto the iPod.  (Or, when I do this "Manually manage..."
thing and go into the device via Finder, will I see a folder there named "Playlists" or something?)
    Something like that?
How do you manage Playlists on a manually managed iPod Classic?
(I'm on Mavericks on the computer, of course.
I could boot Windows or Linux if needed.)

I have just found out how to do this:
    Connect your iPod:
Under DEVICES you will see an arrow (on the left hand side, next to your IPod. If you are unable to display your songs the arrow will be pointing to the right. By clicking on this arrow it will point down, all of your songs will appear. Under Preferences uncheck Auto Sync then you can manually add / delete.

  • Why won't my old iPod (4th gen) sync with iTunes 11.1.5?

My 40GB 4th generation iPod won't sync automatically or manually when I connect it (via iPod dock) to my Mac Mini running OSX 10.8.5 and iTunes 11.1.5.
The iPod shows up in the iTunes side bar, but that's the extent of the interaction between the two. Even dragging selected songs to playlists in the sidebar won't work. Is this just an age-related incompatability issue for which there's no fix, or is there a solution? Thanks.

If those options are grayed out, that probably means the Sync Music checkbox on the iPod's Music screen is not checked.  Then, your iPod is set to sync manually.  Check the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes to see if Manually manage music is checked.  If it is, the iPod is maintained manually, NOT automatically when it is connect or when you click the Sync button.
I wanted to select the latter so that just the songs I checked off in my iTunes library (those added since the last time I synced the iPod) were copied over.
Automatic syncing does not work that way.  When you set up the iPod's Music screen (and Apply), it syncs based on what you select on that screen (the songs that are part of the selected playlists, artists, albums and/or genres).  It does not add songs to what is already on the iPod, based on what is checked or not check in your iTunes library.
If you want to add songs to what is already on the iPod, and the iPod is currently set to Manually manage music, this is how to add (and remove) songs.
To Add songs manually...  Show a list of songs in the iTunes window.  For example, you can click on Music under LIBRARY to show your main iTunes music library list.  Select a song that you want on the iPod, and drag it to the iPod in the sidebar.  You can select more than one song at a time when you do this.  Alternately, select the song(s), right-click on the selection, and choose the command to Add to Playlist -> [name of your iPod].
To Remove songs manually...  In the sidebar, click on the small triangle to the LEFT of the iPod's name, to drop down the iPod's content list, indented below the iPod.  Click on Music there.  To the right, the iPod's song list is shown.  Select the song you want to remove from the iPod, and press Delete on the keyboard.  You can do this with more than one song selected.
There's nothing on the iPod that's not currently in my iTunes library, but I'd prefer not having to do a complete resync.
So, if you want to set up automatic syncing, you can check the box for Sync Music on the iPod's Music screen.  If 40GB is enough to hold your entire iTunes music library, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Then, "everything" (that is music) syncs to the iPod.  Going forward, any changes to your iTunes music library automatically syncs to the iPod (the next time it is connected or you click Sync if already connected).
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  A good way to set this up is to create new playlists in your iTunes library with ALL (and only) the songs you want on the iPod (or you can use existing playlists).  Back on the iPod Music screen, select those playlists under Playlists.  Going forward, to update the iPod, just update those playlists (add/remove songs) in your iTunes library.  So, if you have new songs, add them to one of those playlists.  iTunes automatically updates the iPod with the same changes (the next time it is connected or you click Sync if already connected).
When you click Apply, the existing content on the iPod is replaced by the content selected on the iPod's Music screen.  Going forward, iTunes is responsible for automatically keeping the iPod "in sync" with your iTunes library, based on now the iPod's Music screen is set up.
To me, setting up and using automatic syncing is the most convenient and elegant way.

  • Playlists won't download

With my iPod...it's just one problem after the next.
My playlists won't download to my Fifth Generation iPod with Video. I have them on iTunes, but only the mandatory playlists, like '90s Music, Recently Added, etc, will go to my iPod. Also, podcasts sync to my iPod and appear in Recently Added, but do not appear under the Podcasts section of my iPod. Anyone have an inkling as to why?

    figured it out.

  • Please Help - My iTunes library won't recognize my iPod classic

My iTunes library won't recognize my iPod classic 80gb. I try doing the trouble shooting steps on apple, but they still did not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to add some newer music to my old iPod for listening in the car or when travelling. Thanks a lot.

    Hello dmbnewfie,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPod classic is not being recognized in iTunes when you connect it to your computer. I know you have tried some troubleshooting on the Apple website as well, but without knowing which steps you have completed, I would suggest working through the attached iPod classic Troubleshooting Assistant.

  • Can i transfer songs from one playlist to another on my ipod on my iphone4?

I am wondering if I can transfer a song from one playlist to another on the ipod on my iphone4. If so how do i do it?

I have home sharing turned on but can't figure out how to save the songs to the new computer.
First, make sure you've got the home share set up on both computers, as per the following document. If material on the original PC was bought from the iTunes Store, I'd use the AppleID you used for the purchases to set up the Home Share on both PCs.
iTunes: Setting up Home Sharing on your computer
Have both computers running and have iTunes open on both computers.
Now, in the iTunes on the computer you want to transfer music to, select the library that you want to transfer music from, as per the following screenshot:
Once the other library loads, go down to the bottom of the screen and in "Show:" select "Items not in my library":
If you want to import all of the songs you can now see, head up to the iTunes menu bar and go "Edit > Select all". Then head down to the bottom of the screen again and click the "Import" button in the bottom-right-hand corner.
If there's a lot of stuff in your original PC's library, the transfer may take some time.
