Styles in mail Suck

Is there a way to get the styles in mail to not suck?
I consistently use 3 paragraph/type styles in my emails, but the style setup in mail is horrible.
Apple please update this to be consistent with iWork's styles. (hightlight, title, blockquote are the 3 styles excluding normal)
Also, why can't I assign a color to the normal type in mail?
Sometimes I'm glad for this because I hate getting morons who use "pink" as a default color.
but as a designer I like to have control. I often use an 80% black as my default for a softer impact, in mail I have to change each message if I want this. That is gay.
I would also love the same text formatting from the info window of pages so I don't have to go through all the menus to get rid of the jacked up formatting that I got from copy and pasting text in mail.
If there are ways to do any of this stuff I would love to know about it.
Thanks

There used to be no videos on the web either, but times have changed and the internet is faster.
should we still be using animated gif's too because they are cute? Should we not use css because we used to just use html tables? That is just bad logic.
I agree with you that overdoing styles in email bad, and for 90% of emails I don't need styles.
But suggesting plain text, thats crazy!
that means no bold or italics, or anything just a monospaced type.
+you don't send plain text emails+, and if you put much info in a plain text email nobody finds what is important in it.
*I write my emails so that you can skim it and find the important info instantly*
I don't want to add images (I can create stationary) I just want the message I want to communicate to comes across clear. So the style would save the type size, color, font, and the emphasis (bold, italics) as well as the indent level and paragraph styling. *I want styles just for the text.*
This is what designers use styles for. Its used in every magazine, book and web page, it is built into the first version of html (h1, h2), they have been used since the beginning of the web. Everything you read already uses styles for its typography. Most programs have a way to save styles, mail does, but it is horrible.
All that I want is a simple way to store the typography I'm already using and recall it.

  • Is there a way to create, save, and access new styles in Mail?

I'm curious if there's some magical way to add styles to the choices offered in Mail. I've hunted through Mail's Help program, and found nothing. Nothing intuitive under the Styles... menu option, either. The Document Styles seem to be Lucida Grande (ick) 13 pt and nothing else (despite arrows that look as though they're designed to shuffle through potential styles); Favorite styles give me Default, Bold, Courier Double Spaced, Italic, Outlined, and Shadowed, none of which is really very helpful at all.
I would like to have easily accessible styles that are, say, 18 point (1.5) line spacing; different fonts, etc. Perhaps this is more a stationery question...but then that seems to beg the question of why have an unintuitive "Styles" option at all.
    Clueless seeking clues here.

    Hello,
You can try to use the default Matching Question slide where dragging is possible.
If you want more functionalities, have a look at the interactive Drag&Drop widget by InfoSemantics (my fav) or the Dag&Drop Lite Question widget:

  • Maintaining styles in mail adapter

    Hi team,
In my scenario the flow is :  EDI message -> PI -> Mail
but customer wants to receive the mail , which includes different styles.
ex: for some content , it should be in bold , some in rich text, some content in underline ..etc.
Can you give me some ideas on this.
    Regards
    Drumi

How do the customer wants to view the mail content? Using some editor?  one possible way is use html tag for the entire body and use bold tags in the middle and rich text tags.
    Example:
    Mail Body....
    <html>
    <Body>
This is my email.  <B> Please make sure the message is right</B>
    </Body>
    </html>

  • How to Apply A Font Style in Mail?

This seems like a simple question, but I can't seem to find an answer by searning this forum.
I'm new to Mail (recently converted over from Entourage). Quite often, the e-mails I compose are a hodge podge of cut and pastes from other messages and documents. The result is a mix of fonts and font formats.
I would like a simple way to highlight all of the text in a document and apply a single style. Essentially, I want a way to apply a single style to all of the text in a mail message.
I can't seem to find this in Mail. I've tried to "apply" the default style using the Format --> Style ... menu, but that doesn't work as expected (I don't think it changes anything). Looking up "Style" in the Help menu brings up nothing of help.
    Any suggestions?

you could also select Verdana 12pt as your Fixed-width font and your Message font in preferences under fonts/colors, then check the box that says "use fixed-width font for plain text messages"
then you could select your text command-A, then Shift-Command-A (to convert to plain text) which would convert everthing to verdana 12pt, then if you wanted rich text message again, just press Shift-Command-A again and it will stay with Verdana 12pt but be a rich text message.
This would only be 2 and at the most 3 key combos with no mouse clicks to achieve what you mentioned in your previous post.

  • How to Resume "Normal" Style in Mail?

I frequently (i.e., always) encounter a very annoying feature in mail from which I'm unable to figure out how to extricate myself once the "trigger" is in place!
Whenever I copy and paste an item into a mail composition, I find that the style, shading, and line spacing of all subsequent text that I add mimics that of the pasted item.
I cannot figure out how to re-establish normal text following the "paste."
    Advice?

But I'm wondering if this forces the pasted item to match the preceding style, or does it allow the style that existed before pasting to resume after pasting?
I'm not sure, since I never have to do that. But you could also add 3-4 Returns, then move your cursor up two lines and paste, thus preserving the default style after that pasted text. Alternately, you can just wait until you're done with the entire message, Select All, then go to Format>Show Fonts and pick the font you use normally for Mail messages and it will change all of it to that.
I highlighted the text (following the pasting) and then clicked on Format | Styles | Default... Nothing happened.
Did you click on Apply, and then Done, or did you just select the Default style and click Done? It's possible it will have no effect, but it should, since it's there for a reason, but unexplained in any documentation I've seen from Apple.

  • Copy text styles in mail and apply them on another paragraph like brush in word can do. Is it possible?

I am wondering if this is possible to do in mail and if yes how?

Highlight the text with the desired style, hit Alt-Cmd-C; highlight the text that shall have the same style, hit Alt-Cmd-V

  • What's the deal with Styles in Mail?

I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to add to the list of Styles in either default styles or document styles. Why? Because I don't want to send my clients plain text email, but I do want my emails to show up on their pc's looking relatively normal. No matter what default font and size I choose, the recipient receives the mail in a sort-of plain text fashion, usually Times 12. I do understand that if I don't include any rich text it won't send the font I selected as default. But it does send rich text if I have a signature that's rich; unfortunately the rich part doesn't take hold until it gets to the signature. So still the recipient receives plain text until the sig. I'd like to send text in 12 point Arial, but it only works if I set the default to something else, and not 12 point, and then change it to Arial 12 in the message. I don't want to do that every time I make an email, so I thought I'd define a style that way. But there's no way to add a style that I can find. Anyone?

  • Specific E-mail with links causing freeze using Mail

My wife is getting newsletter style e-mail from Better Homes and Gardens that contain links to pictures and other websites.  These pictures only appear  if internet access is connected so I believe that they are links that only are active once the mail is selected.  If the internet is off, the space for the photos is blank.
I have isolated the problem to these specific e-mail messages that once selected, start some process of internet activity that causes the entire system to freeze and I get the beachball.  If I don't click on the message, everything is fine.  If I then turn off the internet access and open that message I can read it but there are no pictures or links. And the system continues to work fine.  If I leave the internet on and click on the message, it opens with the links and I can see pictures etc., BUT as I continue to read the message the computer will freeze up within 20 seconds.  If I try to click on any links within the message the computer freezes almost instantly.   Also, if I quickly get out of the message and try to view a different message from any other sender that also contains links, all the links and photos become unavailable.  And within a couple seconds the computer is locked up.
From watching my internet access speed monitor and listening to the hard drive it appears that the message is initiating some internet access or hard drive activity that interupts other mail functions and locks up the machine.
Anyone know how to troubleshoot this further?  Does it help to look at the message in it's raw coded form?  What would I look for?
    Thanks,
    Curtis

You know, I expected an answer like; "Your parental control can't be used like that. Its just a program, so it will try to block adult sites, or block unsecure connections. Like AOL mail for example. If you want her to access the school mail, then you'll just have to allow unrestricted access to the web. You can still monitor her web browsing. As for gmail, some email sites are able to be accessed even with the parental controls turned on."
I even expected some arrogant replies like Carolyn's. Telling me how to access gmail.
    Thanks for nothing!

So after researching further and not receiving any more replies I decided to rewrite the script and attempt to use the send-mailmessage function. I have been unable to determine the reason for the original not script not working. We use a very similar script
to my original code which works to generate a report and e-mail that report as an attachment and it works without any problems.
After re-writing the script and using the send-mailmessage function I was able to get this report to work as expected. This has now been set up as a scheduled task to run on a server once a week. Here is the final code:

  • Missing emails in Mail

After I remove Yahoo account from Mail in OS X 10.7.2, all the yahoo emails no longer display inside Mail. How to find them back/ They do not exist in the Yahoo Server anymore as Mail 'sucked' them out when I added Yahoo to Mail initially.

    Ditto,
I have an Exchange, 5 IMAP, and a POP account.  I only have the exchange and an IMAP set up on my phone and iPad, so I only know that those are acting odd for sure.  Not really sure what the problem is.  The emails are showing up in searches.  I have a special "ding" for when my wife emails me and that sounds, but I can only see it if I search for it. The message, along with, most, others wont show up in my inbox...
I'm a part of the developers beta for iCloud and have iOS 5 beta on my iPad but not my iPhone.  Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I figured I should mention.
I really have no idea where to start to fix this bug.  Maybe adding and removing the account, but if it's a problem spanning multiple accounts, that doesn't seem likely and with the number of email I have, it'd require quite a while to sync up again.

  • Print to mail (access method M): several recipients

We are using the "print to mail" (sending a PDF file to an Internet-style e-mail address).
(As a matter oif fact, we have a printer called MPDF.)
We have received the following question: is it possible, within such a print request, to specify several recipients?
I have tried a comma-separated list - that does not work.
I have tried a SAPoffice distribution list - that does not work either.

    Hi,
be more specific, since there are different methods for sending emails from SAP. I use function SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 and can add any number of recipients
    Receiver list:
      recvlist-receiver = email1.
      recvlist-EXPRESS = 'X'.
      recvlist-rec_type = 'B'.          " U = Internet / B = SAP User
      APPEND recvlist.
      recvlist-receiver = email2.
      recvlist-EXPRESS = 'X'.
      recvlist-rec_type = 'B'.          " U = Internet / B = SAP User
      APPEND recvlist.

  • Styling In Mail

    Hi all,
Just a quick one, in Outlook you can easily add unordered lists and align things right all left fairly easily... Can this be done in Mail? I am trying to style my signature... I want to add some leading, tabbing and an unordered list... Or do I need to do this all in a HTML program?
I did see "Styles" in Mail but it won't let me edit anything...
    Thanks!
    Tom

    hello?
    is there a solution?

  • Yahoo mail and MACmail

Hopefully I will get an answer to this. I just bought an iMAC, so I am still a newbie. I have had a Yahoo Plus account for over 3 years and have a lot of information and folders to seperate old emails and the sort. I also have had an Iphone for 3 years and the two have worked great together. They are synced and I have had no issues until buying the iMAC and setting up mail. This is the problem: After setting up mail on the iMAC, I could send and recieve from the computer (iMAC at home). When I would go to work and type emails and so forth it worked fine at work using a different computer (just using the Yahoo server). Once I got home I would open up mail on the iMAC and it would send and recieve, if I got mail from someone else it would show up, but any sent messages that I did throughout the day would not show up in the iMAC at home. The iphone was linked to the Yahoo server and was consistent with work and computers elsewhere. But it was not seeing messages I sent from home, nor was the iMAC at home importing any of the old folders. It seemed like the iMAC was begining at the very beginning of when I turned it on August 23rd of 2009.
This is what I would like to do, I want MAC mail to import everything and be able to talk to the server and Iphone and have an all in stop, if I send something from work it sees it on the server and downloads it to iMAC, and the Iphone sees it as well. Any help in this would greatly be appreciated. I started a Gmail account but I don't want to start over and change emails. My only other option is to close down the iMAC mail and acces everything from the server using safari, but here is the other problem. After talking to Apple support, they made some changes in the port settings from 995 to 495 and MAC mail sucked all the older emails from my inbox to the computer at home and on the iphone, now all my information is on iMAC at home and I can't figure out how to transfer it back to the server. Again any help would be appreciated.

  • Yosemite and Mail massive memory leak and excessive CPU usage

I've just installed Yosemite and upgraded to 10.10.2 via the AppStore. Now I have a problem with Mail sucking up all the CPU (>106% !) and memory (>8Gb and rising while doing nothing). Everything runs fine when I quit Mail. Very disturbing behaviour!
I've tried several suggestions found elsewhere on the board here, such as turning off and even removing all Mail plug-ins including SpamSieve, but without positive results. I've tried un-selecting 'Store draft msgs on server', as well as the option for junk and sent msgs. but again without any difference. Going Offline within Mail also makes no difference to its memory hogging or CPU usage.
I notice this is an issue that's been around since last year (wish I'd known that before upgrading to Yosemite today) and I am just completely flabbergasted that it still exists. Would've thought Apple'd have fixed it in the first but certainly in the second incremental OSX Yosemite release.
Is there anything else I could try that's proven to be effective in stopping Mail's massive memory leak?

Okay, I've run Disk Util and restarted. Seems to have made a little bit of a difference to the RAM gobbling in that it appears to be going at a slower rate, but it's still up at around the 45Gb after an hour. Here's the EtreCheck report in the hope that it helps.

  • .mac mail to many people

I have been trying to send one email to several of my relatives. I use .mac mail and since it has been updated, have lost ability to send the same msg to many people.I have tried every thing to automatically enter their addresses, except manually one by one. When I open the address book, only 10 names show, I can select a couple by holding down the command key, but when I page down I lose that ability. Any ideas on how to send to multiple people would be helpful. I did it with the old style .mac mail
