Stylesheet concept in ADF

Hello,
Does ADF have the stylesheet concept? Meaning, if I have 100 pages to my site, and I would like to change a common element, say background color or a help link, do I have to make the change on all 100 pages or can I set it up to make the change in one place?
I have not started this project yet and I'm trying to get an idea of best practices in this area.
I did see in the SRDemo tutorial, you could create a 'base page' and then copy it over and over. That works to get things started but doesn't seem to help once the site is up and running.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Great - the skinable part makes sense.
I think I'm talking about something else. Lets say I have a help button on every page. I now want that button to be in Red instead of Grey. Do I have to modify every page to do this or is there a way (like an include file for JSP's) where I can store information about the help button (or an entire header area) in one place?
Maybe I should ask it this way. Does ADF Faces have the ability to pull in common sections for its pages (like a header or footer section)? Then when I make a change to a common section, all pages that use it are now modified.
Clear as mud :-)
Chris

  • UIX view for the ADF-Toystore?

    Hi,
how are plans about a uix view for the Toystore, which currently uses JSPs?
This would be nice to see some of the concepts, the adf developers thought of.
The simple tutorials aren't going deep enough (one of them doesn't do even a commit to database after editing a row...)
    Best Regards,
    Torsten.

As I've chronicled on my weblog from time to time:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2004/07/20.html#a355
one of our PM's is working on a UIX view layer for the Toystore Demo. It's not done yet, but it's being worked on.

    Hi Mayur,
I guess this Document will help you in understanding localization concepts in ADF [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E15586_01/fusionapps.1111/e15524/ui_localize.htm] http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E15586_01/fusionapps.1111/e15524/ui_localize.htm
Next time please mention the version of Oracle ADF you are using :)

  • How to invoke ADF application URL from OAF?

    Hi guru's,
We have a developed a custom ADF application using Fusion Middleware 11g.
We would like to integrate this ADF with existing EBS/OAF application.
We were able to invoke ADF URL from EBS responsibility with a special function type "ADFx" in R12.1.3.
Now we need to pass context/profile level parameters from EBS to external ADF application. Like logged in userId/RespId etc...
We are running ADF application also in same EBS DB and hence want to use same fnd_user/Resp concept in ADF.
Can anyone help me on how to pass these parameters like userId/RespId from EBS to ADF while invoking ADF application URL?
If we can append the values to ADF URL, we would be bale to parse them in ADF context. But, i am stuck at passing parameters from EBS.
How Can we invoke ADF URL from OAF page? is there any specific function available or is it just URL invoke?
Also, in OAF the logged in user session information is maintained in cookies(if i am correct), is there any way that we can pass the session level values from OAF to ADF?
Any help in this regard would be a great help!!!
    Thanks

  • How to pass the data in jsp using bpel

    Hi,
    Please find the below requirement.
i need to call jsp post method service using hidden variable i need to pass the input and authentication parameters.
    1. I am using SOA suite 11g and jdev11g
    2. I created a BPEL process and call java wrapper service in that service isent thorugh the post(but here i am trying to it should open al JSP page)
    3. For that JSP page i need to send xml as string and creadentials also as hidden variables.
    4. once i send the request it should open the target system UI page the user will do modifications in target system
    5. The rest of the process is taken care by the target system.
Please suggest me any other alternatives.
Note:- here the jsp action is method post . I tried to write a java code to send the request but i am not able to show the response in browser
    Regards,
    Sri.

    Hi vladodias,
    Thanks for the response.
So i approached the concept calling ADF as a service interface through bpel. from ADF i will call JSP
But in ADF i am not able to set context. Steps had followed to create Service Interface
    1. created allicaton as a FusionWebApplication(ADF)
    2. created model project and selected adfbusiness components, java
    3. created viewcontroller project and selected ADFFaces,ADFPageFLOW,HTML,JSF,java, xml and jsp servlets
    4. In model i created a applicationmodule and in that i write custommethod validate(String un,String pwd,String input)
    5. in validate method i am calling back bean
    6. In backing bean java class i am trying to access the validate method variables using context but i am not able to set any Faces context.
Note: here i converted Application module class as a service interface in that i exposed custom Method validate(String un,String pwd,String input)

  • Alternative approach to tree business model

    Hi JHS Team,
When generating tree-forms with JHeadstart, we need two VO instances in the model for each node we want to present: one for rendering the Tree and another to show on the form, after the user selects a node.
I understand that this is necessary for the case when the user clicks on one node which father node isn't the current row of its corresponding View Object, and so in such case the form couldn't find the current row and show the correct data.
I'm still using the 10.1.2 version, but I checked the 10.1.3 documentation and this model requirement is still there.
I tried another approach to this issue, which consists of using the very same VO instance for trees and forms: in every level, I render the node with every Iterator used in the previous levels and each corresponding row key for every previous levels. When the user selects a node, in that node link I have every Iterator I need to seek and every primary key I need to search for, so I can really reconstruct the path used by the user to seek that node.
So, the benefit is that I don't need a root VO in the AM for every node I need to present as a form. In huge trees, this really simplifies the model construction and its maintanance.
In 10.1.2, the runtime library (JhsDataAction) is already prepared for this, so I would like to know, if possible, the reasons why this is not used already by default (maybe performance?). If there is a reason to mantain the two VO instances in 10.1.3, could it be changed to allow us use the same instances as an alternative to simplify models, and generate the JSF pages working accordingly?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Steven,
Many thanks for the explanation. I agree with you that the current implementation is easier to understand, but I think it is only from the point of view of a programmer who understand some concepts of ADF business model. When you're a beginner, it's more difficult and less intuitive (or at least it was for me some time ago :-))
I can say that in our project we have 4 very large trees in the same Application Module (since they need to be present on the same project as they're all related), and in each level we have at least 3 or 4 "details" VOs we present in the form, so the final model is really huge and really difficult to maintain. It was surprisingly easy to change the UIXs to the other approach, however, so I asked myself if this was tried already. Thanks for warning me of the unpredictable problems, I'll see if we have any.

  • Alternative approach to Migration

    Hello,
Our requirement is to go for OS/Db Migration and have the UME Datasource changed from R3 to LDAP
Now, since as per SAP, UME Data source cannot be changed from R3 as per note
My question is, Is it possible to install the same version of Portal in the new OS/Db combination and then apply all the SCAs and have new UME data source as LDAP.
Will a new install of Portal and then applying all the SCAs = migration of Portal?
    Thanks!

  • ADFf 11g, view does not refresh when model changes

    Hi,
I am really missing something about adf faces (jdev 11.1.1.3.0).
I have a web app, with jspx, tabpanels and pojo data controls.
Since there is a complex logic to open new pages/tabs, sometimes I have to open new pages/tabs programmatically, and also sometimes I have
to refresh the model behind pages/tabs programmatically.
When I say "programmatically" I mean that the model refresh is not started by an user action on the webpage, but is started by logic in the model layer
(say, for example, you receive a JMS message and you want to reload the content of an entire page).
I can succesfully update the model, using debug println I can see the model is updated, but there is no way I can update the view.
I tryed with the "addPartialTarget" code and so on, but it does not work.
I've also bought and read "Oracle JDeveloper 11g Handbook" and "Oracle Fusion Developer Guide", but I can't find anything that can help me.
Can someone explain me: what am I missing? I am sure there is some concept in ADF Faces I missed: this framework is too
big not to offer what I need, so I miss something for sure.
I hope to get an answer, I hope Shay reads this too.
    Thanks all.

    Hi,
Active Data Services (chapter 20 in the book) is what would allow you to synchronize the screen with the model changes. The problem you face is because the data you see is what is stored in the iterators of the binding layer. An alternative solution to using ADS is to use an af:poll component that refreshes the display component when the model has changed. For this your model exposes a method that returns a time stamp that changes whenever the data has changed. Upon af:poll expiring, it calls a managed bean method, which - through the ADF binding layer - checks for the time stamp and compares it with a local saved copy (whenever the time stamp has changed, the client side will e.g. write it to the viewScope or pageFlowScope). If the time stamp has changed, the managed bean re-executes the method populating the iterator for the UI components and then issues a partial refresh of the component(s). Instead of PPR'ing each component in turn, you can try setting the ChangeEventPolicy property of the iterators to ppr"
This should solve the problem. The latter example is also explained in chapter 20, but for ADF BC

    Hi Shabeaut,
Yes, in this case if your users who are in different domain can are able to log in to SharePoint manually you can enable trust relation for all types

  • Adf business components n Ejb Concepts

peoples. sorry for asking this silly doubts.
    reason behind this question.
most often use the adf business components i doesnt know it. but now i am learning with help experts blogs. In some blogs, peoples using Ejb concepts.
but ,some what i know ejb.
    My doubt:
for desiging an transaction oriented projects. and multiple peoples work on my form.
    what should i use.
ejb or adf business componets. which is suitable for the transaction orientation.
    please guide me.....

Either is suitable for transaction semantics.
Which one you choose would likely depend upon your background. If you are already well versed in EJB/JPA, then you would follow that approach. If you are already versed in ADF BC or Oracle Forms, then ADF BC would be a logical choice. I will also say that Oracle seems to have invested more effort in the ADF BC side of things, so if you are still undecided, then maybe that observation can sway you to the ADF BC side.

  • ADF Faces: !-- ERROR: could not create stylesheet for oracle-desktop.xss

    Hi,
I'm using ADF Faces EA6. Sometimes when I create the EAR, it doesn't include the file "oracle-desktop-ea6-ie-6-windows.css" which muest be present in the "adf/styles/cache" directory. If I check the source code from the browser, it starts like this:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"><html dir="ltr" lang="es-ES">
    <head><title>Sistema de Seguridad</title><meta name="generator" content="Oracle ADF Faces"><!-- ERROR: could not create stylesheet for oracle-desktop.xss --><script type="text/javascript" src="/fmv/adf/jsLibs/Commonea6.js"></script><script type="text/javascript">_defaultTZ()</script></head>
Please note the comment: <!-- ERROR: could not create stylesheet for oracle-desktop.xss -->
    Does somebody know the reason?
    TIA,
    Brian

If everything is set up properly the css will get generated if it doesn't exist. You do not have to be running in the IDE for the css to be correctly generated. Running the app first is generating the css before you deploy, so you've taken away the symptom but not solved the problem. If you try running on another browser, for example, you'll probably run into the same problem.
Does your ear get unzipped when you deploy? Do you have a writable file system for the css to get written to? There is a known issue with WebLogic where it doesn't expand the EAR.
Please check to see if there are errors in the logs.

  • ADF Framework Concepts - Architecture

Hi, I have the following doubts; I hope that somebody can help me.
First question, If I have only stored procedures that only have ansi sql such as: insert into table ..., delete from table, update from table... etc,
so Which would the problem in ADF Framework with Entity Objects if I work of this mode. What are the advantages of working with the insert, update and delete statement in the java class and not in an ansi sql since stored procedures?. And When Should I use business rules in the database?
Second question, I understand that my Entity Objects are my business objects, my View Objects are my data access layer (DAL), and my application module are my logic layer so,
Why Could I add validate methods or business rules in the Entity Object?, even as Best Tip, I have read in a manual of Oracle that i should add validate Method or business rules in the method of remove and create in the Entity Object and not in the View Object due to the fact that Entity Objects is who talks with the database.
So my question is, is it bad?, because I should have ALL logic of my use cases in my Business Rules and not in the Entity Object, I think that. Please could give me an observation about it?
Third question, Where should be my logic business in the Application Module?, and what kind of logic should be in the database.
Thank you very much if someone can answer1 me.

As Frank has suggested above, there is not a single best practice for where you put business logic, because the best practice depends on your goals.
If your goal is to enforce a set of rules in a way that get enforced for any client technology (SQL*Plus, Oracle Forms, Visual Basic, PowerBuilder, etc.) that might be accessing the database, then you really have no choice than to become a PL/SQL developer and implement the logic inside the database.
However, if your environment is controlled to the point that you know data updates can only be made through the business components in Java, then implementing the business rules in the middle tier gives you a single, central place to define and enforce them using the Java and declarative facilities ADF BC provides for that.
Again as Frank stated, the DML operations and where you choose to enforce the logic based on your goals are orthogonal issues.
Most customers use the default features of ADFBC that perform the INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE operations for you against the base tables, but the Dev Guide does document what's required to work with stored procedures when needs occasionally require that as well.

    Hello there
I have the same issue: chaging the background color of some column headers.

  • MyFaces not rendering, ADF faces IS rendering

I'm installing my app on the websphere application server, Version 6.1 After having issues of both adf and myfaces not working, I came accross this link which helped me somewhat. http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/Websphere_Installation .
By "not working" I mean that my jsp would have <h:commandLink>'s and <af:commandButton/> however the html was never actually generated. (You could view the pages source and the resulting html page was blank).
After following those instructions, ADF components are correctly rendered, and the html works. However, I can not use any <h:> or <h:> components.
Keep in mind, every single part of this used to work while using Tomcat (I think it was 5.5, not 6).
