"subject" is blank

Tried to set up rule for e-mails that have no subject (they're usually junk) but I wasn't able to do that. Is it possible? I wanted to move all e-mails with no subject line to Trash or Junk. When I went to "add rule", I set the "if condition are met" boxes to "subject" "contains" and then I left the last box blank...but that didn't work because a window popped up telling me to fill in all the blanks. But that's the point: I want to block e-mails that have a blank subject line!
Is there any way to set this up?
Thanks.

I assume you are using Apple's proprietary mail program. If so, you should be able to quickly train it to recognize spam and move it to a spam folder without rules of the sort that you are talking about. Also, most spam that I receive has a subject as part of the teaser to get the receiver to open it.

  • Mail.app From and Subject are blank in list

From time to time I get an email and once it is deleted, the "From" and "Subject" do not display in the list of emails. Its just blank. The "Date Received" shows up as well as if there were any attachments I get the paperclip icon, but no "From" or "Subject". If I open the email I can see the "From" and "Subject" in the email header just fine so I know the data is there, just doesnt show up in the list of emails. If I move the email back to my inbox and the delete it again it usually fixes the problem. Not a big deal but wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue and has a fix.
I am running Mail.app 3.2, and my emailemail is being routed through google apps setup as imap account.
This also happens on my wife's computer, who has an identical email setup as mine, just a different account, which leads me to believe its a mail.app ->imap ->gmail issue.
Dont get me started on the dreaded "All Mail" folder.

I have tried suffering through changing the message encoding back and forth to get messages to appear, but it has reached a level of absurdity that I just can stand anymore.
I view my mail with IMAP from three places; Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and iPhone. If I read a message on any one of the platforms, the remaining Mac (not iPhone) do not display the header information in the message list pane. The iPhone always shows everything fine. And if I download the message first on one of the Macs, it looks fine there, but when that message is downloaded on the other Mac (doesn't matter which was first or second, the pro or macbook pro) the from, to, sent, subject are all invisible on the second machine.
I wrote an automator "watch me" recording to toggle message encoding, but with over 2000 affected email messages, it was taking hours to run, and makes that Mac useless until it is done.
I am less than happy with this situation. Why no bulk message encoding change capability? If you select more than one message the encoding options grey-out.
I've tried rebuilding mailboxes. Using the "defaults write ..." on both Macs. Nothing is working.
Surely someone else is seeing this too?

  • Subject line blank for email using Milkman Games GoViral ANE

I'm using Milkman Games' ANE called 'GoViral' and it won't include a subject line when I select Email from the activity sheet.  Why is that?
    Here is my code:
    GoViral.goViral.shareGenericMessage( "subject", "message", false );
    Thanks

You're using the generic message, and whether the subject appears may depend on where you send the message. Read this page about that:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/ios6-social-networking-with-goviral-ane.html
If you really want to send an email, try using showEmailComposer instead, as shown here:

    Hi,
Is this issue reproducible on OWA? This determines if the problem is Outlook specific or related to Exchange.
How about creating a new profile to setup the account? Test if this works fine:

  • Creating a blank subject-line in email hyperlinks

I'm producing a pdf that includes email hyperlinks, and want to leave the subject line blank so responders can choose the most appropriate line themselves. Keynote, however, seems to insist on a subject line being provided, otherwise it defaults to showing 'email subject'.
Anyone know if it's possible to produce a blank subject line for the email links?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.2 GHz, 768 MB

Sorry, I figured it out. I was "re-creating" the text box by copying the original text in order to keep the font. When I tried the procedure starting from scratch, voila - new, accurate Email Me button.

  • Filtering on blank subject

I have been unable to find a direct way to set up a mail filter on a blank subject.
If my criterion is Subject is with nothing specified in the subject field, it is rejected. If I add some other condition (Every Message + All of the conditions are met) and create one like the above, it seems to be accepted...
However, it nonetheless doesn't act on a message whose subject is blank.
Is there a way I haven't figured out?
BTW, I did try scripting, but I put that question in a second post.

Thanks Andy, this is good stuff...i'm not an applescript user so I'm not sure if I've got the syntax wrong, but here's what i've done...
    using terms from application "Mail"
on perform mail action with messages theMessages
    tell application "Mail"
    repeat with thisMessage in theMessages
if ((sender of thisMessage is "[email protected]") and (subject of thisMessage is "")) then
    try
    delete thisMessage
    stop evaluating rules
    end try
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from
I've applied this rule to all messages, but unfortunately it's not working. Not sure what to think...it's pretty straight forward so i don't understand why it wouldn't work...I've also tried a rule where it script just looks for the blank subject and the rule itself only applies it to messages from the specific email address but that didn't work either...

  • PDF from Word doesn't recognize email link subject

PDFs created from Word contain my active website URL links and email links, but the email subject doesn't make the conversion for some reason. If I click the email link from within the Word document, Mail launches and addresses a new message, and the subject field is filled out properly. But the resulting PDF will only create and address a new mail message, leaving the subject field blank.
As problems go, it ain't the end of the world, but it would be great to receive email that I know was generated by my brochure.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    D'OH!
BD, has anyone ever held a parade in your honor?
It took me about three hours to conceive and do the layout for this flyer. Then another 5 hours trying to get it to convert properly into a PDF. When it didn't convert correctly from Word, I fired up Classic, launched an old version of Quark XPress and recomposed the flyer. But when I tried to export it to PDF, Acrobat Distiller (remember that?) just sat and spun its wheels. It did spit out a Postscript file, but it wouldn't actually make the PDF for some reason. Never even generated an error. Then, I accidentally double-clicked the Postscript file, and Preview launched as said it was making a PDF. I was a happy camper... until I discovered that this PDF was cut off on both the top and bottom.
Then I checked my email and found you had answered my cry for help (yet again).
When I followed your instructions (which I did try to find on my own before posting my plea), the PDF came out perfectly on the first try.
My thanks to you for what must be by now the 85th time.

  • What are the switches I can add to the subject line of an eprint email?

I see some commands listed here and there but nothing comprehensive in a single location. If it were a command line I would enter "eprint -?" to get the help text listing all available commands.

    Hello Arkle,
I think you meant that you can leave the body blank and it will print.  If you leave the subject line blank, ePrint may see the email as spam and reject it.  ePrint jobs should always be sent with a subject, but can be sent without a body.  I do not mean to correct you, but that confusion could cause some problems to arise.

I don't have a solution, but I would suggest you try a more descriptive title for your post. That way someone who has experienced your problem will see the issue rather than having to guess what it is. Like I did...

  • No subject warning

I just upgraded to Leopard and when I send an outgoing email without a subject, a have to click through a "warning no subject" message before I can send the email. Since I rarely add subject headers, this is annoying. There must be some way to disable the warning function, but I can't for the life of me figure out how. Any help?

Actually there are many legit reasons to leave the Subject field blank. Forcing it to be used would then be detrimental.
For example, when emailing to a cell phone. In some cases, the contents of the Subject field are counted in the maximum number of characters and will cause your message to be cut short. Also, some carriers don't handle the Subject field properly as that field is not typically used in a text message.
Since I email from my Gmail account to cell phones quite often, I'm constantly having to confirm that I do indeed wish to send without a Subject field. Over the course of the day, doing this several times an hour, it gets quite aggravating. It would be nice to be able to toggle this on or off, or better yet have it disabled for specific Contacts.
And yes, I do use informative Subject fields when sending normal email.

  • Rules sending out blank email

I have a rule set up in the following way:
If any of the following conditions are met
    subject contains "blank"
    subject contains "blank"
    Move message to mailbox "blank"
    Reply to message with "blank"
and it seems to be working fine. the problem is that a day or two later a blank email is being sent to those whose emails have been moved to the mailbox and haven't been answered yet. Some have received 2 or more of these blank emails.
how can I stop this or why is it happening?
    thanks

    Hi RArriaga,
According to your description, you want to create a subscription, then you can send the corresponding purchase order report to each user, right?
In your scenario, you can create a parameter which can filter the report based on different users. Then you can create a table in the database which contains email address and corresponding report parameter values. When you create the data driven subscription,
you could specify value of “To” from the table and report parameters with [Parameters] field. Please refer to screenshots below:
    Reference:
    SSRS #60 – Steps to implement a data-driven subscription
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • I was able to search google. Then close the window and later get back to the search page. Now I cannot?

I am using Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 and iMac with 6GB RAM. When I go back to Safary/History/Google search all I am given when I click on the Google search subject a "Blank window" to re enter my subject. I used to be able to get back to the original search window with all the Hits or  links available.
What have I done wrong with my preferences, can you help? Thanks, Bob

Try deleting the Safari cache more often. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that doesn't help, try this ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Email Submit Button - Crash (Not severe)

    To reproduce:
    1. Create a new blank form. Select Next.
    2. Select Defaults. Select Next.
    3. Select any Return Method (E.g. Print) Select Next.
    4. Select Finish to start.
    5. Insert an Email Submit Button.
    6. Leave the Email Address and Subject fields blank.
    7. On the click event for example, type a code (e.g. app.fullscreen = true;)
    8. Going back to the email field type an email address or subject.
    9. Designer wouldn't be able to catch the error and crash.
This bug report is tagged as not severe since users can circumvent by simply avoiding this sequence. Note that other similar actions may trigger this event.

    Alan
Though not an expert, I've created a few forms with the Submit by Email button. If you've already done this then sorry for asking, but did you go through the Acrobat Distribution (Forms>Distribute Forms)process after creating the form in LC8? As far as I can tell the email submit button doesn't work without this stage.
This confirms the email submission address, then sets up a dataset to be saved in a location of your choice.
    filename_dataset_0001.pdf
then a file type that can be edited, saved and submitted by Reader users:
    filename_pub_0001.pdf
You can save this to your intranet server or email direct to the recipient.
When the submit button is then used you receive a copy of the whole form which on opening will prompt you to add it to the dataset. Receiving and adding multiple forms to the data set is straightforward. You will see them all listed in the viewer above the form itself. From here you can also then select and export the data to Excel via xml or as a csv file.
Note that any changes you make to the form should be to the original document and the distribution process repeated, otherwise the functionality of the form will be affected.
That's about the limit of my knowledge I'm afraid, therefore if you have already tried this and are still having problems then hopefully someone else can help out.
