Subtle Window Manager Blocks All keyboard Input?

So I'm trying to use subtle on a headless server box of mine over a tightvnc server. Yet for some reason all keyboard input is blocked. If I'm using twm instead, everything works fine.

Again, I can type into xterm when I'm using twm, but not when I'm using subtle. Anyone else know of some sort of work-around that they've used with the same or possibly another WM?

Via xinit? That worked, but I don't really want to use the root display for it, just in case I need to do some maintenance on it at the machine . (I do blind command manual maintenance sometimes just because it's easier.
Is there possibly another way other than using xinit and x11vnc or that does what I want it too?

Safari 7.1 blocks all keyboard input in Flash app

Safari 7.1 on OSX 10.9.5 blocks any and all keyboard input for FlashPlayer applications!! Everything worked fine until the upgrade to Safari 7.1 and OSX 10.9.5. Tried FlashPlayer 14 and the latest 15 -- still no keyboard input, not even in debug mode (I'm a developer of enterprise apps for browsers).
The same app still works just fine in Firefox and Google Chrome! Is this just a mishap on Apple's side? Or just another hit to kill off the most productive computer language I've ever used (and I used Apple's own Objective-C as well)??
Come on Apple! I love you guys and use your products a lot, but is this really necessary for the most powerful and valuable company in the world -- to hurt a language with such tricks that doesn't do you any harm at all?? This makes you look more like the "PC guy" from your own former commercials (instead of the lovable "Mac guy") ...

From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Test.

New release Safari 7.1 blocks all keyboard input in Flash Application

Since I have upgraded to Safari 7.1, none of our Flash Web Application are accessible; Meaning that all Flash Input field are blocked.
We have created many (R.I.A = Rich Internet Application) with Flash / Flex... And the new release of the Web Browser Safari 7.1 cannot be used to
run the Flash application.
Can Apple fix to quicly ?
I believe I'm not the only one concern by this big issue; Flash platform is widely used over the world thus I want to believe that Apple is taking into account that big issue and will sort that out very quickly !

I have the same issue, but only with Flash Player debug version (version 14.0.0.145 and also 15.0.0.152).
When installing the non-debug player, I am able to input text into textfields.
I also hope this will be fixed soon.

I discovered that I can only capture keyboard events when my GUI application has focus. Ok, but I need a functionality that can capture all keyboard input, even if my application runs in the background or in the system tray.
How can I achieve that?

I know...sorry, didn't mean to imply otherwise.Don't worry about it; I wasn't offended. (I didn't think that that was what you were tying to do.) I was trying to (subtly) take this a different direction. (Was going to write something Solaris specific or perhaps something in ASM that would effectively do what the O/P wanted. Seeing as how Key Loggers only serve one practical purpose - as far as I know - I just wanted to give him code that he could do nothing with.)

[SOLVED] wmii ignores all keyboard input

I'm trying to use wmii on my new arch install. No matter which of the wmiircs I use, it never accepts any keyboard input to switch tags, open windows or anything else. The clock is correctly updated and if I open a window using DISPLAY=:1 from another terminal, I can move it around with the mouse. Evilwm is working fine and the only error in Xorg.0.log is related to fbdev. Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong here?
EDIT: Just a major PEBKAC. I forgot that Win is the new default modkey and wmii didn't ask me because xmessage wasn't installed.

Anyone have any ideas? I tried reinstalling base and base-devel through pacman...still no relief.... This is bizarre.
EDIT: It's getting worse. System now hangs on boot at "Waiting for UDev uevents to be processed." Things are rapidly going downhill.
EDIT: No booting due to Udev fixed my booting without acpi. I rebooted into another linux distro to poke around in /var/log/pacman.log for a bit to see if I could find the offending update. Nothing seemed really suspicious, except for the update to "linux-api-headers." (Anything with "headers" is suspicious. So, I decided I would boot back into Arch and try to downgrade that package. After booting back into Arch, I see that the problem has disappeared...so...I dunno what to say...I have no idea what/how this got fixed, or how I (yes, let's be honest here...it must be "I") broke it in the first place.

Keyboard input without focus

Hi !!
Does anybody know how to write an application that catches the keyboard input all the time, regardless if other application has the focus. I want something like a windows service that runs in the background an catches all keyboard input. Can anybody give me an ideea ??

this can only be done using a hook...and hooks can only be done using native code....like c/c++/assembler for the operating system.

Keyboard input changed to wrong language

I'm using a dual g5 desktop running tiger 10.4.4. This morning all keyboard input is in the wrong language. It's greek or one of the symbol fonts. According to the setings in the international panel everything should be set to US English, roman script. I know that CMD+space used to toggle between input choices but that now brings up Spotlight. Is another key combination that toggles the languages? Other settings to check? It's interesting that the input menu tab of the international pane still says use CMD+space to toggle inputs, but that no longer works.

According to the setings in the international panel
everything should be set to US English, roman
script.
The setting that matters is system preferences/international/input menu (not languages). Also make sure you have the box checked for "show input menu in finder," so you can see what keyboard layout is active in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder.

Keyboard input bug

Does anyone else find that Keynote 09 sometimes stops responding to all keyboard input after a few minutes of running? And if so, is there a way to fix it?

Keyboard input for a nubie!!!!

Can anyone help me with writng a method that accepts all keyboard input and writes it to a file? I.e. whenever a key is pressed (only letters and numbers), it is accepted even if no programs are running and no text editor is being used.
This will help me great deal and I would be very appreciative for any help I might receive.

Is this like making a key logger? It takes down all your input and saves it to a file? If it is I'm sure there are plenty of tutorials on how to make a key logger out there.
I guess you would have to look up buffered writer and rile writer methods, although I think they are just through a text editor or program.

Keyboard Input in fullscreen mode!!

I know that adobe has blocked the keyboard input in fullscreen mode.
But, is there any other way to implement that.

At FullScreen the Flash Player is active and Javascript does not get the keyboard events (I think)

OSX/SL 10.6.8 all window apps lose keyboard input; mouse and cmd-N work for spaces

Input suddenly stops going to all applications, from MacBook Pro and wireless keyboards, and from "Show Keyboard viewer" (OSX 10.6.8 'Snow Leopard', MacBook Pro). Though the OSX Keyboard Viewer shows the keys onscreen as they are pressed on the MacBook and wireless keyboards. 'Spaces' responds to cmd-N commands, but no input is possible to any running or newly-started 3rd party or Apple-provided application. Killing off applications one by one doesn't recover keyboard input ability; a complete reboot appears necessary to restore the ability to key input into applications. This happens repeatedly, yet never registers as an OS/X 'crash' because 'Force Quit'ting applications and restarting is still possible using only the magic mouse or trackpad. No data whether only logging out and back in would correct the apparent input-focus disconnect of all applications with the window manager. There may be some way to restart the window manager by using the mouse to open up new apps and/or cut and paste characters ( including a carriage return ) or cut and paste entire saved typed commands into a terminal window.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Subtle - another tiling window manager

It's been a while since the first subtle AUR package came up and there was never neither an introduction nor a thread here in the forum. Time to get this started and to hopefully get opinions/feedback of the of users who already gave/want to give subtle a try.
For all of you who never heared about subtle - here comes the intro:
subtle is another tiling window manager on the field with a grid-based manual tiling window manager with a strong focus on easy but customizable look and feel. In comparison to other tiling windows managers, subtle has no automatic tiling of the screen size in any way, instead windows are arranged according to positions inside of a grid - these positions are called gravities - which can completely be controlled with key bindings.
subtle also has a Ruby based config with support for lambdas as key bind actions, a wmctrl-like commandline tool (subtler) to interact with subtle and an extension (subtlext) for Ruby that is capable of doing the same and even more!
There are also small Ruby applets (sublets) that can show various stuff like system load and the time. The management of these scripts can be done with sur (Subtle User Repository) - a small command line script similar to gem which makes installing of a subtlet a piece of cake e.g.:

Windows placement and window properties are determined by a complete tagging system for clients and views and can be manipulated in the config and/or per runtime with subtler/subtlext.

1 + 2) What do you mean with 'per tag'? You can assign gravity tags to clients witht he config so that any layout is possible and you can freely create your own movement stuff with the grabs. Subtlext gives you control over gravities of the clients. Yes, it's Ruby and I won't argue about like you did in 4) - it's a matter of taste and I really like Ruby.
3) So just to understand this: If you set the top left gravity to a client, you would prefer that the next client also gets top left gravity?

Well, actually this was in subtle but was removed in favor for the WindowRaise and WindowLower grab that allows e.g. to cycle through windows with center gravity.

How to have same keyboards input source in Mac and Windows???

I use Canadian French-CSA on my Mac keyboards input source. Using Windows 7, I can't find the good setting for my keyboards to be the same when I it keys.
I run Windows over Parallels Desktop

The speed of your internal network generally is much much faster than the speed of your internet connection. Unless he has an internet connection faster than approx 6Mbps then even dropping down to the old 802.11b Airport would not seen any decrease in speed of downloads etc...
and will my brother's PC's also be able to connect?
If his PC is 802.11b/g-compliant, it shouldn't have any problems connecting to the AirPort base station.
Or is there another Airport base station?
The other AirPorts would work, but the AirPort Express & older 802.11g AirPort Extreme base stations have a max. range of 150 feet.
OR-- should I head down to "Generic Computer Store" and just by a wireless router (WiFi)(think that's what they call them) and connect this to his cable modem? IF SO WILL THAT WORK FOR MY MAC?
That is always an option as well, especially since he will be the primary user throughout the year. I'd suggest going with a brand name, like Belkin, D-Link, or Linksys for the wireless router choice.
