Suddenly I have 85 users on my server!

Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone here can help me.
We've been running a Mac Mini server with Mavericks and Server v3 on it for over 6 weeks and nothing to concern me has happened. In fact it's been a dream compared to our old NAS box.
Anyway I've updated server this morning with the security update released this week and all seemed fine until about 2 hours ago when one user suddenly was locked out and unable to connect, despite using the correct password.
A restart of the client Mac didn't help. Restarting the server application didn't help. So I restarted the server hardware itself.
Upon restarting the server it took a while to get to a desktop, and then when I logged in and opened the Server app, I had to connect to the "***.local" server again, which took around 5 minutes to connect.
When it was back up and running, our user could connect again with no issue, but as I looked in the users list, there was suddenly a list of 85 users (as opposed to the original 4!), which seem to have "system related" names... such as CVS Server (local user) and a range of others "daemons" included.
What is most concerning to me though, is that there is a new user called "System Administrator" with an orange triangle next to it, telling me it needs to be "fixed". I'm kinda freaked out that all these users have been generated by the system itself, without any prompting from myself. Also our original administrator account that I had made when I set-up the server itself, has had the "administer this server" button changed from a solid tick, to the blue box with a single line across it (not a global administrate option anymore)
Worth pointing out is that we are on a network with other servers (not all mac based) and shared computers... Dunno if it is anything to do with that but maybe it is.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me, or is anyone else experiencing the same change after the update?

Hi MrHoffman, thanks for your reply!
I know for a fact that the DNS is set to .local - it's the default one so I've never altered that. The changes that occurred seemed to happen after the recent apple security update was applied. If ".local" causes so much trouble is there a reason that it's the default? (I'm not that technically minded - it's just a wonder more than anything.)
Upon closer inspection I can see that the hostname has had two hyphens added to it, where the spaces are in our business name. (Previously it was named without the spaces, just all typed as one word.)
I guess that if there was a long delay in the DNS update then maybe it would account for the user suddenly being unable to connect/use the server.
As for the users, I know where I can see the list of them, the thing is that previously there were only 4 in the list, now there's 85, including a new "System Administrator". It's functioning normally again, but I guess I was really looking to see if anyone else had seen the user list grow without prompting. If it's normal then that's totally fine with me, but as I say it freaked me aout a little when there are suddenly a bunch of new users on the list.

The other thing I have notice is that a huge amount of Users & Groups has been added without my consent.
    Do I have to ReInstall Lion Server??

    I had the same issue.  I opened the Workgroup Manager application and noticed the message "not authenticated as diradmin to directory: /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1" was under the icon bar at the top of the popup screen.  When I clicked on that bar I entered the diradmin username and my password.  After I exited the authentication dialogue box the message now read "Authenticated as diradmin to directory: /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1."
    At that point I had full privalages in both the Workgroup Manager and Server App to create users and groups.
    Not sure if this why the problem occurred in the first place but at least I resolved it without any major problems.

    I am one of only two Macs in our office.
    Up until now I have been able to connect to our shared folders/server just fine. Occasionally and randomly I would seem to get booted off, but would just log back in.
    Now suddenly I get "Connection Failed You do not have permission to access this server".
    I seem to get it whether its cifs, afp or smb.
    After it denies the connection it also boots me from email. As soon as I cancel the attempt to connect the email recognizes my password again.
    I have tried rebooting, repairing permissions and having our network admin change my password and nothing seems to work.
    If I enter an incorrect pw it recognizes it as such. I only get the above message when I use the correct username and PW.
    Additionally if I go to the other mac in our office I am able to connect using the same credentials without any problem.
    This is via ethernet.

    i also got the same problem on my ipad i have tried every thing i dont knw hw to fix this problme any solution. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????

    Additional Information. 
    On my Mail Accounts setup it was set to "verizon.net" on incoming.
    Now it faintly reads, "incoming.yahoo.verizon.net"
    This came up automatically ....  I did not do it and I cannot change it

    Please explain in clear english as to what is your requirement. I got lost after "two company user" . I suppose it means there are users from two separate company: A and B. They were using same portal till now: http://commonportal:50000/irj/portal.
    Now they need different urls - specific for each company say companyAportal.com and companyBportal.com. But still the same old common portal in the end.
    If that's your requirement please search the forum with correct terms, else "Google".

  • Users have multiple AFP connections on server?

    Our server is running 10.6.7 and in Server Admin under AFP connection we are noticing users with multiple connections to server.  The settings are enabled to "disconnect users after they are idle" for 60 minutes and also "allow to sleep for 4 hours" checked.  I have 2 other servers with the same settings that average 60-80 connections but this server continues to average 250+ connections, many of which are multiple users from same IP address.  Does anyone have ideas as to why server isn't reseting connections?

    Who says the server isn't resetting connections? How do you know these connections are not active?
    It's not uncommon for one user to have multiple connections to a server, depending on your sharepoint configuration. Each shared resource will consume one connection for each user. This means that if your users' home directories are on the server, as well as a group sharepoint and a public share/dropbox, then each user would have three connections. Does that cover your usage?

    What version of Muse are you using? If it's not 2014.2, please go to the Creative Cloud Desktop App or creative.adobe.com and update.
    The FTP login failure is most likely due to your host not supporting FTP Extended Passive Mode. In Muse 2014.2 switch to "Passive (PASV)" in the Connect to FTP Server dialog.
    Regarding performance, how large is your site (in pages and megabytes)? How many Design view tabs are open? What specific operations are slow?
    If you'd like to send your .muse file, I'll take a look and attempt to isolate the cause of slow performance. Please send me the .muse file at [email protected] along with a link to this thread. If the file is larger than 20Mb you can use a service like Adobe SendNow, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc. Thanks.

  • Have two users one is a test one is mine all the sudden mine lost the applications folder and now when i open my user it opens but wont respond to anything and i have to power it down and restart any clues

    I have two users one is mine, one is a test i set up with apple care. Everything was working fine then i lost my applications folder icon on my user. I have been using the Finder to open applications, now when i open my user the mouse travels but i'm not able to get a respond from anything ,it's almost like its frozen. I have power off and restart and use the test user. Anyone have a clue or any ideas?

    You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
    If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive. 
    You can also boot into Safe mode
    To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
          Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
    During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
    During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
    To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

  • Creative Cloud for Teams, 6 users, files on server, want them on cloud..

    At my company we have 6 creative cloud for teams users and a server that we use to put all of our files on, i want to have all of those files sync to the cloud so we can all access them and they stay in sync with the server that they are all on. would i need to install creative cloud on the server (its a mac mini server) and sync it that way? i would need to take up an install and log in for the server computer correct? most of my team already uses their 2 installs on a mac pro tower and then on their macbook pros for when they telework or are onsite somewhere... just wondering what my process should be for getting our files on the server synced with the cloud for our team.. thanks!

    The feature you want is not available yet. Currently there is only individual file sharing, so one file at a time. Folder sharing is coming. You will then be able to share folders with specific individuals. We do not have a date for when this feature will be available.

  • Unable to send email to the users from Project Server Workflow

    Hello all,
    I am facing issues in sending emails to the users from the workflow in SharePoint Designer 2013.
    I am trying to send emails to valid users in a Project server 2013 Workflow by Email action.
    I have set up the SMTP server successfully, I have configured SMTP server successfully in IIS manager 6.0
    I have configured the outgoing e-mail settings in Central Administration successfully,
    I have configured the SMTP email settings for my web app in IIS manager as well.
    I have configured and synced the User Profile App with the eMail addresses from Active Directory as well.
    I have configured the Alerts and Reminders in Operational Policies of PWA settings as well.
    I can send the emails to the users successfully through Powershell.
    But when I am trying to Start a Task Process with a user in the workflow, the task process starts but it never sent an email notification. So I tested by using the Action Email, that also the user is unable to receive any email. But the Workflow is not giving
    any error also. The email sending is successful, but the user is unable to receive it. The workflow succeeds to next phase without any errors.
    So to cross verify I tried 'Alert Me' option on a list, but that also is not sending(or might be sending but the user is not receiving) the mail.
    What else should I do to solve this issue.
    Please help me.

    I tried editing the PWA instance as you said, but that also didn't help :(
    I even restarted the Project Server Service, but nothing is changed. 
    I tried creating a new workflow for a List and used send email there, but that also is not sending the mail :(
    How do I check where the issue is from ? I mean, whether the workflow is sending the mail and the mail server is not receiving? or whether the workflow is not sending the mail itself? how do I check this? Is there any way to log these details?
    Please help me regarding this issue, I am totally clueless how to proceed.

    In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account.  The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
    Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

    Yes, you can use another server for .ibooks format.  You can also directly email it if your system can take the size.

    Hello i have a question about moving my C:\users profiles.
    My current settings on the servers are:
    AD-Server 2012
    SQL-Server 2012
    TS- server with RDS roles (RDwebacces, RDs broker, RD session host) 2012
    everything about user profiles is now in C:\Users
    My new settings for the server will be:
    AD-ActiveDirectory - server
    SQL-Server
    TS1- RDS (RDwebacces, broker, RDS server group management) 2012R2 (I have enabeld userProfileDisks to Filesistem server)
    TS2- RDS(Session host) load balance 2012R2
    TS3- RDS (Session host) load balance 2012
    FileSistem - server ( here i will have on E: partition the new functionality UserProfileDisks) 2012R2
    So is there a way to move profiles from TS - C:\Users to FileSistem - E:\UserProfileDisks
    I am new to this so any idea wil be helpful.

    If the UPD is configured on the server which holds existing user profiles, just select the option:
    store all user settings and data inside the profile disk.
    Since you are moving user profiles between different servers, then user profile contents need to be migrated manually.
