Suddenly unable to publish to .Mac (or to a folder) - had been working fine

Yikes! I've been working on a site for over a week now, and have published to .Mac a dozen times or so. Just now I'm getting:
"Publish Error
An unknown error occurred."
(I retried several times: "Publish to .Mac," to a folder, and Publish All to .Mac.)
Any ideas. The only thing I can think of is that several of my headlines were getting nastily chopped up in tests in IE, so I changed them from text to .pict images, with the hope that IE wouldn't cough at the font and/or spacing. Now I do have multiple files named "droppedImage.pict" -- could this be part (or all) of the problem.
Please help!
Thank you, thank you!!

Okay, I figured out what was causing the publish to fail:
I had two small black spots (about the size of the white boxes on the resizable frames around objects) hiding in the undermost layer of the home page. I remember these two spots (which turned out to be two discrete objects) appearing as an artifact after I dragged a droppedimage.pict I had pasted onto the page to its proper position. At the time I thought it was just a refresh/rendering artifact, so I popped all my intended objects to the front. When I moved all the objects I wanted to keep out of the way, the two black spots were still on my background. I was able to select and delete them. Now publish works fine again. I only typed this up in case some other person suffers from black spot disease.
