Suggested improvements to Liquify -

Made a post like this years ago and some of the things appeared,  probably because they were obvious enough improvements. But heres more …
• A "smooth" tool. This would take any edges and discrepancies in the mesh and smooth them off, while dragging. In effect similar to "simplify" in Illustrator I suppose. There is a workaround where you can use one of the other tools and drag but it just doesn't work - maybe I've missed something and there IS a way to do this?
• Make the Bloat and Pucker tools less severe. These are very difficult to use  at present because even on very low brush rates, they make massive changes. The whole point of Liquify for generally is that it can be used to do very subtle changes easily. The other tools are adjustable - but the bloat and pucker tools have been poorly judged.
• To be able to scroll image past the edge boundaries, like full screen in Photoshop. Having the image nailed to the corners of the work area, is just too limiting, and difficult to position the area UNDER you brush freely as you work.
• The ability to work on a low res PREVIEW of the image in the main dialog. Once again, because I asked for this before, A button saying "downscale for working copy". The image then switch to a low res preview instantly allowing larger brush sizes, and more instant refresh. At the moment on high res images nearly everyone doing high end work needs to set up an action to dupe the doc, downscale the image to 25%, save the grid down and load it into the main document, with dialogs all the way. This functionality should really all be built into the Liquify main dialog,
• And while we are at it make the whole thing work using Open GL to speed it up. Thanks
I would upgrade for these changes alone

Have You ever used the Content Aware-Rescale for actual work?
No I haven't. Though I can remember a few very specific jobs in the past where I would have done, if it had been available. Its the kind of thing that as a seasoned user that you forget exsists.
Yes I think that new (orthagonal grid looks like) transform also looks very useful.
On a completely different subject… The aibilty to mix paint like that in photoshop (Painter style) is something I've been missing since I started using it. I think whats going on under the surface there looks very clever,. The problem with many of Photoshops newer features is that they are coded in such a way as makes them very slow to operate - and of dubious value because of this (ie 'Quick' Select). So main thing I'm hoping is that that this new paint technology doesn't fall into the same category on high res files.

    1. Remove the PKGADD dependancy. Pkgadd requires root access to a
machine, iPS is likely to be installed by developers, not sysadmins.
    2. Install Java in the same directory tree as iPS. too many applications
use /usr/java and expect different java versions.
    3. Include 'optimization' settings; i.e java flags, documented in the
release notes as part of the install.
    4. During install request a username to run the gateway, web server and
ldap server as. Again changing this is documented as an option in the
release notes. If installing as a non-root user, this user should be
    used.

    1. Make gateway url rewriting changes on a per machine basis. Too many
    sites use the same javascript variables, i.e; url, src, pathname, html;
some sites require rewrites others do not.
    2. Add comment fields to the admin interface, if I make a change I want
    others to know why.
    3. Provide backup/restore scripts. As part of the development/production
phase I've written scripts to make an image of a production ips setup,
which I can then install on a development system. A few 'sed' statements
deal with the new hostname and IP addresses, and a few 'pkginfo' checks
    need removing, but this works.

    1. Make 'Hot Patches' available on the iPS web site. Or a minimum the
release notes, so I know whether I need it.
    2. List 'public' versions of bugs/rfe's on the iPS web site. Something
similar to 'SunSolve' would be great. If I have a problem I can save a
lot of time by finding a bug report online. Most technical Sun/Netscape
customers rarely ever use telephone support.
    3. Remove the 'black box' support restrictions on the LDAP and web
servers. If I want to add a CGI script to my web server, iPS should
still be supported, just not my CGI script.
    Licensing.
    1. Remove the crazy per CPU prices for the 'secure' version. All this
is, is an implementation of the Mozilla NSS code which is freely
available. Many companies offer faster H/W SSL solutions at far lower
prices. Whether the URL rewriter is only available as part of the
'secure' version I've never had a clear answer.
    2. List prices on the iplanet web site. When I try a product I want to
know how much it'll cost me, and right now I have to have an iplanet
sales rep visit me ...I hate sales reps :)
You may not believe it from the above, but I do like the product.

    Mark,
Thank you for this good list of suggested improvements. I've forwarded it
    to the iPS product manager.
WRT the one about licensing for the secure version, let me try to give a
clear answer. The extra licensing fees for "secure" mode is for the
gateway component of iPS and the features it provides. This includes:
         - reverse proxy with URL rewriting
         - netlet VPN
         - certificate-based authentication
The term "secure" in this context can be a bit confusing. It does not
refer to whether the iPS itself is access using SSL. Rather, it refer to
the security of the entire intranet that is accessible via the portal. In
secure mode, the only access point for the entire intranet is the iPS
gateway, so the intranet can be made secure. In open mode, the iPS server
is accessed directly as are any other web servers in the intranet because
there is no gateway. Even in open mode, the iPS server can be configured to
use SSL. But that doesn't do anything about the other web servers and
resources that might be necessary for a complete portal solution.
    HTH.

  • Suggestions & improvement - Please Read.

I don't know if this is fixed in the new version of J2SE 5.0 , if not then it should take it in consideration.
Improvement Forum - Should there are a specfic forum for Java Improvement? Because it feel even if i post it here i don't know if anyone reads it and take into Account.
Installation - I think the ne J2SE 5 has improved on that with the help of Wise Installer. Now instalation looks much more professional. But there is always some files such as temporary extraction files left. Which takes up a lot of space. I hope this could be cleaned up. Or at least have an option to clean up "ALL" unwanted files.
Installation Location - I think this has been changed to a folder inside Program Files in the latest beta. Which is a Good thing.
Mutiple Installation - I think user are starting to complain. With the help some Extremely good Java Desktop Program; namely Azureus Bt client. More people are willing to install JRE. However, Opera includes its own Java, other includes as well. Shouldn't these program Detect Java inside this computer? I think J2SE5 should have more guideline to programmer on that to avoid people downloading / installing more then they need.
Enable Java Loading as Services - There should be an options for this. But should always remain untick and allow us to decide whether or not to use this. This would reduces the loading time of most app as Java has already started.
    Thanks for reading

I have some suggestions for Apple to improve it's Address Book app, but cannot find the email address to send such suggestions. Like in the English edition, why doesn't the address field automatically start numbers as that is the default address format in the US. Any help?

  • I have a suggested Improvement

on the text mesages screen ... where the New Message option is ... also have a Read (mark all messages read) button.  Most of the time text messges are short enough to read without opening them.  But, for them to be marked as read and remove the "new text message" icon at the top of the phone and the blinking indicator ... you have to open the message and then close the message.  If you have multiple messages, you have to do this for each.  Whereas, if I had an Already Read or Clear button ... I could receive 5 short text msgs, read them each from the first screen without opening each one, click on the Clear button, and I am all set.  Clear sounds like Delete so that may not be the right terminology ... maybe "All Read" or something better.  Thinking a step beyond ... it would be great if the All Read option would mark all text msgs read and close the text msg list.  This would allow me to read each msg, respond to those I need to ... then mark all read and close the text messaging list.  Also, if there was a reply icon on the left or right for this screen ... that would be great too ... allowing me to go straight to a reply with one click without having to open the msg and then click reply ... but I guess one thing at a time eh.  The "All Read" option would save me a lot of "wasted clicks" which has to be a focus of your development.

  • Suggest improvements for nokia n73 and other devic...

Nokia n73 is the most succsesful device ever made by nokia. But you noticed that the images taken by the n73 are little blury and the video is also poor. If theres is nothing harware problem why not nokia fix theme with software update. Why not nokia try to make n73 just like n78. This will be great if nokia update n73 software and fix the problem. N78 also powerfull device but its buttons make it lazy. N78 will be more greater if its button replaced with bigger and esiar. And the improved new device will launched n78i.

I would not bother getting a nokia at the moment.....
If you can live without nokia drive for now then i would hold back for atleast 6 months and see what happens.
Nokia have slipped down the chain a bit and are not as almighty as they use to be.
There are loads of probs with the Lumia 800 and the 710 is not all that good compared to nokia's of old.
I got the 710 because of nokia drive and it is no where near as good as the old Ovi navigation...
In fact the whole phone is a let down....with poor camara, poor sat nav, poor speaker and poor battery...
The Actual phone is a nice design and the screen is not bad...WP7.5 looks interesting but still needs a lot of work to catch up with the others.
Not sure what the Omnia is like...but if i knew then what i know now about the 710 i would of gone for the HTC Radar and just used my N8 for Sat Nav.

  • Suggested Improvements for DW6

    1)  Tags highlight when clicked on in the coding screen and display the end tag that goes with it. Example of this would be in NOTEPAD++.
The feature is very helpful to code writers when writing their page to see if things are matching up correctly. While we have the DESIGN area to
see things it is difficult to determine if your overall structure integrity is still there other than through displaying blocks.
Display blocks in CSS is nice, but we don't always want this coding.
    2)  Would be nice if when you double click the tag in the coding screen if the CSS segment. Perhaps wishful thinking here.
    3) When using the "Fluid Grid Layout Guides" are fantastic, but they need to be stronger in structure as they are very touchy and quickly become disabled as you work.
Perhaps a screen should come up that states "Use of the fluid grid layout guides installs several CSS rules for the various screens please excercise careful selection as you      work with your CSS selectors and the rules, or properties."  I was working with mine for a few days before I realized what was going on and why everything was not      functioning for me as I was adjusting the wrong set of CSS stylesheet rules.
    4) While we know this is a feature that started in Illustrator, it would be nice to have it here too. A layers panel where you can work on say the "login" section and turn off,      hides, or dims the rest of the layers with the exception of the main blocks of the structure of the document, this layer feature would hide the other CSS rules that have      nothing to do with the Login section.  Something along those lines . . . it allows one to focus on just that feature, very nice for those who get distracted from their work      from others calling them, etc. HELPS A PERSON FOCUS.
These features would be nice if they could not only get them to work in HTML, but the scripting languages too. You fellas are the geniuses you will figure it out somehow.  Let me know if I have suggested something that is already there and I have not discovered it yet in regards to DW C6 and its fantastic fuctions.

  • Suggested Improvements to Desktop Manager

I didn't do a search of the forums so if this is repeated I apologize.
The software needs some way to report issues or at least a link to these forums.
I think there should also be a way to make improvements to the software; it would help you make a better product.
    Media Sync -
A browse function would be nice; I have music in other locations.  It takes a few steps to have to add another sync folder.
Is there a way to add just one song from an artist without having to make a playlist with just the songs you want?  It seems to make you add an entire artist; I just want one of the songs.
Media Sync - Pictures - I would like to be able to delete pictures off of my device from the thumbnail view.  Right now when I right click I get "Show in explorer" and "open media with default viewer".
Is would be nice to have the media sync be able to set up to also sync folders with random data files as well.  An explore option might be a good addition to view all the files on the phone even if they are not media.
If you could also figure out a way to sync your podcast subscriptions this could be a nice feature to avoid turning on WIFI.  I use blackberry's podcast app.
I had a couple other ideas but can't remember them at the moment.

  • Safari - suggested improvements

Safari on the iPhone is almost a brilliant browser. A few small improvements would really help it though. They are all to do with multiple pages.
First, when you go to another page you loaded previously, Safari reloads it. This shouldn't happen, as it is time consuming and takes away most of the point of having multiple pages.
Second, the pages don't load simultaneously - only one page loads at a time. What would be good is if you could open a series of pages at the same time, then by the time you've read one, the others would be waiting for you. This would dramatically reduce wait-time, but of course would only work if the the first problem above were fixed.
Finally, some way of opening links in a new page would also be great. Think of the home page of a news site - if you could open several articles from the one page, then they were all waiting for you by the time you'd read the first one, Safari really would be the best mobile browser around.
So, any chance of these changes being made for the next iPhone software release?
    Thanks
    Chris

Tell Apple--you are just asking other iPhone users here, and they don't know what Apple plans to do.
    http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Anyone who does know what Apple plans to do is under NDA to not tell anyone. Incidentally, your feature requests would depend as much on overcoming memory and network limitations as Apple coding something.
You might check out the app Instapaper, which is an offline reader that I suspect exists to workaround these types of annoyances. I haven't tried it myself, but I've seen a lot of good reviews.

  • More suggested improvements for iWeb

I think iWeb is absolutely brill. I’ve had it about three weeks now, and for a first software version the outlook is very promising. Looking at people's sites it certainly is flexible enough for both text heavy sites and media sites, and some of the designs are amazing. I love the drag and drop simplicity and the speed with which you can build a site from nothing at all. Gone are the days of ******* about with tables and percentages and stuff like that. My HTML (and my memory of it) was ancient by the time I could build up enough energy to tackle generating even a simple page. Now I'm tinkering about on a daily basis.
However, there are some things I'd like to see in version 1.1 or 1.2 (I don't want to wait until iWeb 2.0 in iLife 07!). I know a lot of these have already been mentioned in wish lists in this forum (some of which seem quite advanced in nature, dependent on .mac changes or server side technology) but hopefully I’ve some new suggestions coming from the perspective of a beginner or simple personal homepage designer. Here’s my list roughly in order of importance:
    1. Publishing of only changed pages – the single most important in my view
    2. Ability to cut and paste HTML into ‘HTML’ shapes through the inspector, thus solving the blog comments, banners, hit counters, metatags issues all in one shot
    3. Ability to preview a page in browser of your choice immediately there and then to check how it looks without publishing
    4. Ability to configure titles of pages correctly, instead of basic titles like ‘Home’ ‘About Us’ – allow titles to be different from page name
    5. Better use of optimised images and code to reduce loading times
    6. Ability to lock, unlock, group and ungroup page elements a la Appleworks
    7. Proper support for adding hyperlinks to animated gifs instead of having to use a workaround
    8. Ability to select whether links open in a new blank browser page and to go to specific anchors on a page
    9. Ability to add pop-up comments via the inspector to items that you haven’t got round to building yet
    10. Ability to control size of photo thumbnails, and have more than 3 wide, instead of having one really really long page
    11. Proper site manager with truly independent sites and independent publishing
    12. Again, the site manager should allow you to nest pages to aid organisation of your pages instead of having them all in one long list (doesn’t necessarily have to link them either)
    13. Ability to change template midway through design
    14. Ability to alter hyperlink colours, surrounds and add rollovers including template ones and ability to save these changes to custom templates
    15. Addition of other Apple items as buttons, eg ‘Visit Apple Store’ ‘Get Quicktime’ ‘iTunes Music Store’ with the correct links, to further spread the Apple Love
    16. Built in favicon editor in the inspector, a simple one will do
    17. Allow FTP to non .mac site though not essential
That’s my list. And, yes, I have sent iWeb feedback. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Michael
    http://www.rowan-cottage.co.uk

I would very much like to see the ability to add FORMS to web pages, and the ability to have the information from the forms either be sent to the site owner, or shown on a continually updated webpage (which would be great for surveys). For that matter, the ability to add types of graphs/charts by simply entering info into the Inspector and assigning it a value would be quite helpful too.
Pull-down menus in navigation bars would be lovely. ANYTHING to help with more complicated site navigation, please. Fixed nav bars (that don't move when scrolling) would help with overly-long pages.
I would also like to see an additional type of PHOTO page -- maybe call it an ALBUMS page -- that works like the main BLOG page, updating automatically. So basically whenever a traditional PHOTO page is made, an image (the first photo from that page) appears on the ALBUMS page -- which becomes a clickable hyperlink to that page. Yes, I know there's a way to build something like this from a blank page by dragging photo albums from iPhoto -- but it would be so much simpler (and faster -- especially with PHOTO page-heavy sites) to have a main ALBUMS page that does all the work for you.
I know there's a million other things I'd love to see, but these were the ones (not already mentioned above) that popped in my head first.

  • How do you send comments to Adobe re suggested improvements for Beta projects?

I think it's a great idea making beta projects available for testing - it just seems strange the HELP menu does not have a direct link back to developers that one can easily send comments/suggestions. I hope I'm in the right place now?
My comment with the new version is:
    - you still can't see the ACTUAL SIZE of the file, only the original size of the photo. If you have converted the RAW file...to bad.
    - you still can't find what the colour space of the photo is - can you?
These would seem to be pretty basic functions such a "high end" programme should be able to deliver.
Do like the new additions though but shame such an easy to use function such as PRINTING does not have ability to see the consequences of different 'rendering intents' on screen.

  • Suggestion: Improved "Accidental Trackpad Input"

I never had a problem with the trackpad on my PowerBook G3/Firewire, but when I got the 15" PowerBook G4 (hi-res), text editing became extremely frustrating.
I like using the trackpad tapping for clicking, so I have that enabled, but the new trackpad is just too close to my hands when I type, so I get "accidental taps" all over the place while typing.
Of course the OS has the "ignore accidental trackpad input" setting and enabling it has saved my sanity as far as text editing is concerned. Unfortunately I find that it does a little bit too much, in that it pretty much ignores the trackpad as long as you are typing.
I found the SideTrack trackpad driver and tried it for a few minutes. Setting the top left and right corners to do nothing on taps proved to be a perfect solution for ignoring accidental taps in those areas. The only downside to this trackpad driver is that it doesn't know how to do two-finger scrolling, which I have come to like very much. The author of SideTrack is investigating the possibility of implementing two-finger scrolling and I would love to pay the shareware fee once that feature is also working.
Meanwhile, I'm wondering if it would be possible for Apple to implement something like "ignore the top left and right corners of the trackpad for tapping" option in the standard driver?

    the cursor jumps everywhere
Hmm... In fact, the cursor doesn't jump everywhere. When it jumps, it jumps to a specific, predictable place: it moves to the exact spot in the text where you last left your trackpad/mouse pointer.
When you are typing and you use the trackpad (or a mouse) to move the cursor, make sure to move the trackpad/mouse pointer either out of or below the text field within which you are working so that when you do brush the trackpad the trackpad pointer will move either to the end of a line or to the end of the text field.
I would also suggest that you look into a replacement trackpad driver called SideTrack. In the SideTrack preference pane in System Preferences, there is a filtering feature called 'Ignore trackpad while typing,' which is much more useful than the PB's 'Ignore accidental trackpad input.' This filter is adjusted with a slider that enables you to set the duration of trackpad filtering that occurs after each keystroke. You can set the slider to anywhere between 200 ms and 2 seconds. (SideTrack adds quite a few additional features to the trackpad, as well: corner taps to perform software actions and/or actions that you normally would only be able to perform with a six button mouse; vertical and horizontal scrolling on the trackpad's edges, and more. Definitely worth the $15 shareware fee.)
    Good luck.

  • Suggested improvements for iPod Nano G5

I love using my iPod at work quite a bit. I keep it in my pocket for convenience. But with it there, I cannot see the display. Today I checked the battery and it was almost dead. I thought it would be a good idea if the Nano could produce a series of three short beeps through the headphones when the battery gets low, say last 20% of charge. Then when it gets to the "last pixel" of the red low-battery indicator, as mine was today, the beeps could repeat once per minute or so.
Also it would be helpful while driving with the Nano in a car adapter/ player if the "Now Playing" song/ artist/ album font could be made larger for easier viewing. It is very hard to read while the car is moving. I see the menu font can be made larger but not the main "Playing" screen. Did I miss something in the manual?
Can the Album artwork be turned off? A lot of times it is the wrong artwork or just a musical note anyway. This would allow for the Now Playing font to be bigger

Thanks! I did not know there was a place at the Apple site to give feedback. I searched the entire site for it before deciding to post my comments here at the discussions forum. I will put my comments there.

  • Suggested improvements for the Room Console application

The Room Console is a pretty nice tool to have out of the box to aid in visual debugging of LCCS room-state. However, I think it would be far more usable if the list of "My Rooms" were sortable and searchable. Once that list gets full it can be a huge pain to find a single room.

  • Suggested improvements to RSS feed

It looks like the Usenet service is not going to be restored, which is foolish and disappointing. For me the RSS feed is the best alternative but there are two drawbacks.
    1. Quoted text is not distinguished from author's text. Would it not be better if quoted text were italicised or coloured?
    2. The author is not identified (unless he/she has opted to show email address). Could the author's screen name not be displayed as a signature by default?

That's interesting. I, too, am using NetNewsWire but quoted text is not differentiated from non-quoted text. Your quote above was manually italicised. I'd be very interested to learn how you have NNW set up to automatically distinguish quoted text.
