Suggestion to bring back lower minute plans

I normally use 20-80 minutes a month on the 450 minute plan (weighted toward the lower end). It's quite excessive for my needs and Ive seen more than a few (albeit older) posts from customers just withing the past hour looking through the forums with the same feeling. I'm currently unemployed and back in school, so money's tight. I am rather happy with the quality of service I receive and hear negative things about other carriers in my area, so I am hesitant to leave Verizon. I just reupped my contract, which I was hoping to downgrade my minutes plan (I'd set it artificially high for the unlimited texting a few years ago) and saw that the lower minute plans are gone. I'd heard from my local rep that this was done to be competitive, but it seems more logical that a provider would be more competitive with more options, not less. It just seems removing the lower plans was really done to increase profits.
So if you think they should increase their options for customer please comment. If you disagree, please give an alternative if you feel you have to say anything. I'm quite used to forums from World of Warcraft and Rift, so I'll likely disregard anything that's unsupported/troll-like.
Thank you.

  • VZW - Bring back global data plans or this will be my last trip with a VZW phone in my pocket

(Background -I travel from the US to NZ&AU 3 times per year 2-3 weeks at a time for business. After my last trip I raved about VZW's data service in AU and was looking forward to having it available again. I even purchased a Droid 2 Global for my upcoming trip because I knew i could rely on the service. Called VZW today to make arrangements..)
Last trip (September 2010) : $65 for unlimited data
    This trip (: $20/MB
    Dear Verizon -
At this data rate your product is no longer a reliable business tool - it is at best a novelty. Even though I have a capable device in my pocket, I will have to search out wifi hotspots throughout my trip b/c your service is cost prohibitive. This change makes a clear statement that you do not want to be taken seriously as a global service provider, and is disrespectful to those of us who signed contracts with you based on the availability of your international data plan.
As my trip is just 1 day away, I do not have time to find a new provider before i leave. This, however, will be my last trip abroad with a Verizon phone in my pocket if the unlimited data plan is not brought back. Early termination fee? Doesn't look so bad when you consider that it costs more to download 15MB than it does to terminate my contract.
If anyone at Verizon actually reads this board, please take this thread as a notice from myself and those who post below that you will be losing us as customers if this situation is not rectified.

    Agree completely.
Background:  I've posted a few replies to this topic on Droidforums.net (Under Droid 2 Global).  Just found out about this plan being canceled this week while preparing for a 1 month trip to Japan - figured I would just call to reinstate the plan only to be told it no longer exists.  I am a new VZW customer as of this past November and had used the unlimited data plan on a trip passing through S. Korea and 2 weeks in the Philippines in December - Droid 2 Global worked flawlessly for data once Global Support was able assist with the correct settings.
I am extremely disappointed and feel I was misled when entering into a 2 year contract.  From what I have read it sounds like plans were in the works to cancel the plan with a notice being sent to existing customers last November or something.  Nice that I was told the truth as it was the primary reason I switched from AT&T.  By rights the salesman had an obligation to tell me "you know, this plan is being eliminated as of January xx so if you want to keep it you need to keep it active".
Regarding the 4G LTE service, yes the CS agent I spoke with the other night mentioned this as well but either way I am hosed into getting a new device at that point so give me one good reason to stay with VZW.  At this point as I mention below I am perfectly willing to cut my losses and go back to Brother Orange or other.  In all honesty what I have found in the past 3 months of nationwide travel is that the call quality is muddy at best compared to my old RazorV3 on Orange and seems to be better on NON-VZW networks.
Fool me once, shame on you... Fool me twice shame on me.  This is going to hurt VZW more than it hurts me.
If anyone else on this forum could verify if I was given the correct contact names noted below (this came via text msg from CS agent as I was still speaking with her - bless her heart):
1.)  Daniel S. Mead is in fact the President & CEO and
2.)  T.J. Fox is the Regional President for IL and WI.
I have every intention of writing a more formal version of below and sending via Fedex or USPS with signature required as it seems electronic means is not allowed.
The following is posted on the above mentioned forum:
    Strength in numbers...
I recall one of the earlier posters had the idea of a petition and I see that Word attachments are allowed here so perhaps I'll draft something up on the flight this Sunday from LAX to NRT and post it next week. Perhaps not so much a petition but more of an "open letter", potentially post it on VZW's own forum as well.
I talked with CS last night for a while regarding another issue and also brought this up. The agent provided me with the following contacts and suggested I write a letter:
    Daniel S. Mead - President & CEO
    One Verizon Way
    Basking Ridge, NJ 07920
T.J. Fox - Regional President IL, WI,
    777 Big Timber Rd.
    Elgin, IL 60123
If anyone else wants to take a crack be my guest, I just think that with minimal effort Verizon might take notice.
    Key points as follows:
1.) $20/Mb for Global Data (Verizon doesn't seem to "get" the idea that "Global" is bigger than just North America, Canada, Mexico and Europe) is not just inconvenient it is outrageously overpriced rendering the phones useless:
Again, using my last months usage as a reference and I don't believe I am a heavy user - email, some browsing, Weatherbug, Nav. etc:  250Mb at $20/Mb = $5,000
Do they seriously think anyone can afford that? All they have done is to hurt their own bottom line.
I'd be really curious to know how many subscribers to the $64.99 Global plan they had or in other words how much revenue they lost.
I'd be happy with a compromise but to eliminate it completely?
2.) According to Global Support, Data has to be either on or off, no way to selectively leave on POP email which is really the only thing I have a need for and simply turn off everything else. Even if you use an App killer how do you really prove there is no data transferring unless you specifically tell the device.
Might be time to root if I could be sure it would eliminate unwanted data transfer.
3.) The availability of this plan vs. other carriers was the only reason I switched from AT&T last November. No mention was ever made of this plan going away. Misleading sales tactics IMHO.
4.) Canceling my contract (family plan at ~ $190/month) that is only 3 months old at this point would sting a little bit for me in terms of 2 lines @ $320 each for early termination.
But, from Verizon's perspective that would be 21 months of lost revenue or ~$4000.
So if 10 people were to send letters/ 10 signatures, we're are talking about potentially $40,000 or more.
100 people now we are starting to get into serious money.
Any way you look at this, Verizon has only succeeded in hurting their own bottom line:   Potential canceled contracts, customers spending the money elsewhere such as Japan's Softbank or NTT Docomo in my case, potential new customers lost due to publicity of this, etc.
    Any +/- feedback appreciated

  • Please bring back low-res panning

Illustrator used to snap to a low res version whenever you'd use the Hand/Pan Tool.
That feature was removed one or two versions back and I wish it would come back.
Moving and panning in Illustrator is so crazy slow now.

  • Bring back the 500GB Standalone Plans

I am very disapointed that there is no longer a 500GB option and everyone is now forced onto either 50GB, 250GB or 1TB tiers. I would have much preffered a price discount and the 500GB plan offered at $95 dollars, instead of being stuck paying $113 for 500GB and hoping I get upgraded to 1TB. If I don't then I'm expected to pay an extra $2 dollars and swap to a different plan when others have been upgraded for free. I could understand if the 500GB plans weren't offered anywhere, but they are still offered in bundles, could you please bring back the 500GB plan or at least have it available in a tier?? I personally think 250GB, 500GB and 1TB tiers instead would be better value. If I was paying less than 100 dollars for 500GB I would be more incentivised to bundle, and the bundles as usual disadvantage existing customers by offering nothing at all.  Thanks Telstra

    Hi dazza826,
Thanks for offering this feedback to us.
At this stage we won't be offering a cheaper plan for the 500GB. We increased data to enable people to be able to enjoy our new Telstra Air service without concern of using up their data. More on that here

  • Bring back Visual Basic 6.0 ! We all need it.

Please reconsider introducing VB6 to the market. It is needed by many.

    Hi Reed,
Thanks for your two posts. Let me try to reply.
    Discussion or Argument ?
You say "these forums are for discussions not arguments", and suggest that I want an "argument" or I am "trolling".
Yes they are for discussions and no it isn't the case that I want an argument (or that I am trolling). I am trying to have a reasoned discussion following the opening poster's genuine request to "Please reconsider introducing VB6 to the market. It is needed
    by many."
I don't consider you treated him fairly. You have some sort of administrative status on this forum, implicit in that is that you should treat all posters equally and fairly. Yet your first post was "Bring back Windows 3.11, we need it. ......VB6 should
be retired and forgotten."  That post alone was unfair to the OP and it set the tone for other posts that followed.
In other posts you refer to "VB6 zealots" but never criticize those who oppose the return of VB6 even when they accuse posters of being someone else. (I'm not making a plea for more banning and more censorship, I'm asking that everyone be treated
    equally).
You also say "At the end of the day it is a fool's errand to argue with fools, so there's little sense to continuing the 'discussion'". Hardly fair and equal treatment, and certainly not an encouragement of discussion rather than argument.
You also state "If this thread were meant to take itself seriously, it would have a title which was not so obviously false, and it would contain some content with a reasonable argument."  Again, the opening post was clearly a genuine call. You may
not agree with it but that is no reason to call it 'obviously false'.
Also the opening post doesn't even refer to VB.NET, it certainly doesn't suggest that VB6 should replace VB.NET - it is others who bring VB.NET into the argument. (And yet you move it to 'Off-topic posts' on the grounds it is not VB.Net related).
Let me state I am putting this forward as my genuine opinion of your actions, I am not attempting to 'troll', 'flame' or to attack you personally.
    Valid arguments for VB6
You say Cor has clearly demonstrated there are no valid arguments for keeping VB6 around. Not so.
First of all the OP says "it is needed by many". Why should your and Cor's opinion be any more important than the OP's ?
Here are some reasons it is needed (I limit myself to just 5 otherwise this post will be huge):
    1) VB6 is still widely used.  According to the TIOBE index it is the #7 most popular programming language - an amazing feat for a language last updated 16 years ago.  Particularly as Microsoft (& others) have spent 12 years trying to kill
it off. You may not like it, but there it is.
    2) There are still a huge number of legacy VB6 applications in use, especially in corporates and government. Microsoft have (to their credit) recognized this and offer "it just works" support for the VB6 runtime until at least 2023 (soon to be extended).
But this support is for the runtime, not the IDE.
Microsoft effectively offer 2 options for these VB6 applications
       a) If no modifications are required, continue running the VB6 application (presumably Cor disagrees with Microsoft).
       b) If modifications are needed, migrate to VB.NET.
But in real life the most likely scenario is that the VB6 application will require a minor modification.
So what do you do ? According to Microsoft you migrate. But if the modification is just to change (for example) some text on a form that would be nonsense.  I saw a suggestion a while ago that it cost $1 for every 3 lines of code migrated.  So
a medium sized VB6 application could cost say $20,000 to migrate.  Clearly that is not an acceptable cost for the minor modification I suggested. (Don't get hung up on actual cost figures, I am just pointing out there are potentially significant
    costs involved).
The obvious answer for this scenario is to use VB6 (at a cost of say $20 not $20,000). Yet Microsoft don't offer this, stating that the VB6 IDE is not supported on Windows 7 or 8.
Does anyone disagree that doing minor modifications in VB6 is the only acceptable solution in this scenario? Or are some going to suggest it is better to spend $20,000 than $20 ?
Microsoft have painted themselves into a bit of a corner here, stating that they support unmodified VB6 applications until 2023, but you can't (theoretically) modify them.
For completeness on this point I'll cover some other typical scenarios too:-
One is that the VB6 program needs to become a web application - effectively this is then a re-write not a migrate, so you can decide what language is best to use. It may be, for example, that JavaScript/HTML5 is the way to go. (I've followed this route myself
    for some old VB6 apps).
Another is that the VB6 application needs a mobile version. A few years ago that may have been VB.NET for Windows Mobile. (I've done that myself too, great for Windows CE/Windows Mobile 6.x). But doing this today you are really looking at iPhone,iPad
and Android - again you can choose the best approach (native or web app ?) and language.
The final scenario I'll mention is the one Microsoft do cover - migrate your desktop VB6 app to desktop VB.NET.  I can't think of any occasion in the last few years where I have found a genuine need to do this.  I have certainly seen cases where
IT (or whoever) have decided that VB6 apps must be migrated because VB6 is 'obsolete' (I guess a view not too dissimilar from many in this forum). I've even done a few of these myself (though I had the sense to only do smaller migrations, not wanting
to tie myself up with large scale migrations). I don't think of any of  these new applications (done by myself or others) were any better than the ones they replaced, but at least the customers were happy (and paid well).
    3) VB6 is the same language as VBA. VBA is a current, Microsoft supported language. It is in Microsoft's flagship product Office 2013. And it is the same language as VB6. You can cut and paste code between VB6 and VBA (and vice-versa). It is the same
    language.
Both VB6 and VBA use the Visual Basic Runtime Library. In fact it is more than that, VB6 actually uses VBA to define it's language. In effect the VB6 IDE is a host for VBA in the same way that Word or Excel are hosts.
It is strange that Microsoft support (and sell and extend) the language when it is named VBA but not when it is named VB6.
Microsoft say VBA will be supported for the foreseeable future stating "This means that if you have an existing VBA project that you are satisfied with, you can be confident your investment is safe". Where is the logic in having this for VBA but not VB6
They assure you your VBA investment is safe but won't give the same assurance for your VB6 investment.
(OK, for the more pedantic posters VB6 is the same as VBA6.  VBA7 is the latest release and includes a handful of modifications to support 64 bit Windows. Prior to VBA7 the languages were kept identical, it is these same modifications that many
of us now would like to have incorporated into an updated VB6).
    4) A suggestion to bring back an improved version of VB6 is the fifth most popular (out of almost 8,000) on the Visual Studio UserVoice site. Vote
    for VB6
    5) Microsoft's program manager for Visual Studio stated (Channel 9) "It isn't cost effective to keep rewriting code to get back to functional equivalence".  Quite so. So why re-write existing VB6 applications ?  (Again, Cor presumably disagrees).
    General Points
You mention LightSwitch and SmallBasic. A good point.  But I'm sure you know neither support VB6 code so it doesn't address the concerns of the OP.  But it is nice to see that you aren't opposed to all languages that aren't called 'VB.NET'.
So why the opposition to an updated VB6 ?  If you prefer, it could be named LightSwitch 6.1 rather than VB6.1 ? Or maybe SmallBasic 7.0 ? Or if you see VB6 as a threat to VB.NET you could name it VB Junior. As long as it can open and compile VB6
code that's fine by me. Incidentally, there is certainly no call for VB6.1 to be part of "the .Net family".
You say "you want these hard working people to DO MORE WORK so that you can continue to generate income from your ancient endeavors."   I'm not sure I see your point here.  How is asking for Microsoft to bring back VB6 (together with the modifications
they have already done for VBA7) doing that? I suspect Microsoft could do this for a fraction of the money they have wasted on LightSwitch or SmallBasic. And if it is going to be more work than Microsoft can handle (as if) they should open source
    VB6.
You mention that your 8 year old website is 'crap'. Well, that's what happens with websites. But the analogy doesn't really hold for a typical VB6 desktop program. A desktop CRUD program written in VB.NET doesn't really look (or behave) any different
to the same program in VB6.
You ask what I will be doing in 5 years when nobody uses PCs anymore ?  Well who knows what the future will bring, but it is likely to be VB6 for those (mainly corporate) users still using desktops and laptops or Windows tablets, JavaScript for
Web apps - including iOS and Android - (I note Microsoft are recommending JavaScript/HTML5), and something (maybe Basic4Android ?)  for native Android apps if Android phones and tablets become more acceptable for corporate users. I'll probably
also be migrating my VB.NET apps to JavaScript too.
As things stand, Microsoft have sent a clear message: 'If you are planning to make a substantial investment in developing your software, if your application is mission-critical, if you expect to use it for years to come - don't use Microsoft languages.'
Have Microsoft learnt from this ? The killing of Silverlight would suggest not.

  • Bring back the 12 month devise installment plan.

You need to bring back the 12 month devise installment plan. I am grandfathered into the unlimited data plan and do not want to give it up, so the edge plan is out of the question. I cannot afford to pay full price for a phone and accessories. the installment plan helped me tremendously in my purchase of a new devise withOUT, changing my plan and coming greatly out of pocket. HELP!!!
I have been a VZW customer for more than 12 yrs. The devise installment plan, unlimited data plan that I have and great service, are just a few of the reasons i an still with VZW. Please remain competitive and re-offer this service.

Who cares what my data plan is? Has nothing to do with my opinion on unlimited data. I could of had it. Chose not to, didn't need it. Still don't. I use maybe 500 MB per month.
The point is Verizon wants to get rid of it. And has been getting rid of it piecemeal for years. My point is if they are  going to do it, just do it. Like pulling a band-aid off. You just rip it off you don't try to finesse it. Just dumping it gets rid of all the 'How can I still get a discounted upgrade" threads also gets rid of the "Verizon tricked me into giving up unlimited data" threads.
Will people get mad? yes. They get mad now. What's the difference? Heck offer them 10 GB per line bonus for 2 years for each unlimited data line as a gesture. The ones that leave likely use the most data and that will actually help if they left.

  • Bring back Unlimmited plan

seriously verizon bring bck the unlimmed plan the usage limmit is so horrid i would like to do more things on the internet but i cant cause the oonly other service is satalight and i cannot use that for online gaming which blows.

I don't need unlimited, but fair value for dollar would be nice, and $40/250 meg on a notebook broadband plan is definitely not it. Neither is $15/150 Meg on a phone. Along with a $20 surcharge for a mere 2 Gig of tethering with a proposterous overage charge of $20/gig. When I had it on my old Moto Q it was only $15/5Gig. Verizon has been notorious for offering extremely poor value for dollar options, and these current broadband and smartphone data plans are definitely no exception. I shudder to think what the new LTE smartphone data plans will look like.
These plans do, however, create windfall ROI with fat dividends for investors, high ARPU, and high profit margins, which is actually the point of low-value, high-dollar pricing models.
To add insult to injury, Verizon also has discriminatory device pricing, offering markedly better tablet data plan options which incidentally INCLUDE tethering/wifi-hotspot. Palm Pre also is given wifi hotspot options at no extra cost, but Android Blackberry and Windows Mobile are charged Extra for this "feature". Will the iPhone be charged extra for hotspot feature too? Time will tell on that.
Oh, and now reports indicate the $15/150 Meg smartphone plan is going away soon. Will better value for dollar appear in it's place? Knowing Verizon, I wouldn't count on it but we can hope.

  • Change Minutes Plan = $500 Bill

Back in October I called the 1-800 line to inquire about having a lower allotment of minutes for the two lines on my account because of the fact that we hardly use any of them. The representative I talked to was able to take our 700 minutes plan and drop it down to 450 and all seemed well. Saved around $40 per month on my bill. Fast forward to this past Sunday (12/29) and I received my e-mail reminder that my bill was available for viewing/payment. I look and come to see the amount had jumped to a staggering $511.07 (see screenshot below).
    (image containing phone number removed)
I immediately called the 1-800 line to find out why it was so high and the representative I talked to (named Sam, no last name) informed me that when I made the plan change of 700 minutes to 450 minutes, that doing so took away the unlimited messaging feature. Thus the two lines were charged per message sent/received. This was not mentioned to me when I made that change back in October. Sam put me back on the 700 minutes/unlimited messaging and said he escalated the matter and would contact me the following day (12/30) with an update on the matter. Sam did contact me the following day (after I requested an update through online chat) and he informed me that he was still waiting review from his supervisor and would contact me the following day (12/31).
Yesterday came and went without an update from Sam and this morning, I called the 1-800 line and the representative I talked to today (Genesis, badge: (removed)) was far more helpful in that first she informed me that when I made the initial call on Sunday, the billing error should have been rectified right then and there. She then proceed to fix the issue which resulted in her crediting my account an amount of $297.40 (see screenshot below). Genesis informed me that by the end of the day when check my account, the balance should no longer be $511.07, rather $213.67 after the credit has been applied. As of writing this post, the amount still shows $511.07.
    (image containing private info removed)
That said, an amount of $213.67 is still more than what I have been paying in the past (see screenshot below) and while I am very appreciative of the help Genesis provided this morning, I do not consider the matter to be completely rectified. I made a change on my plan but was not informed at that time that a key feature would be taken away and now I'm stuck with an abnormally high bill.
Is the credit of $297.40 the best that can be done in terms of rectifying this or can more be done? I gotta say, looking at the prices of the other carriers, it's looking like a switch is going to be in order and this billing snafu is only accelerating it.

For it to be cheaper changing from 3GB to 10GBm you would need 6 or more lines on your account. 3gb is $40 per month and 10 GB is $100 per month. For lines out of contract, you get an additional $10 per month discount, but only on lines out of contract (on NEXT or completed 2 year contract or Bring your own phone).
The out of contract discount is $15 for plans that have data plans of 6Gb or smaller and $25 discount for plans that have 10GB or larger.
If you change mid cycle, there will be a prorated charges for the partial month.
If the original poster normally uses 1-2GB over their plan allowance, then it wouldn't take as many phones on the account for the 10GB plan to be cheaper.

  • Bringing back hub/mb/cas server

    Exchange 2010 sp3, 1 DAG, Win2k8 r2 sp1
2 MB, 1 hub main site
    1 MB/CAS/hun DR site
for a long time, the Exchange server in DR site has been offline because of no available disk space. now that both the Exchange servers in main site and DR site have the same hd size for the mailbox database, i'm planning on bringing back the DR site Exchange
    server.
problem is, the DR site Exchange server have the previous configurations in terms of mailbox database names, sizes. the main site Exchange servers have different database names, sizes. but both have the same drive letters.
question is, when i bring online the DR site Exchange server, how can i make it sync with the new configurations from the main site Exchange servers? should i delete the old mailbox databases in the DR site first, do a file level copy of the mailbox databases
from the main site, and then restart Exchange?

If your database is that large, your best bet for adding a second copy is to use external storage, as you suggest.  However, in order to do this, you are going to need to freeze the database so it doesn't change during the time you are copying the database
and placing it onto your second server.  To do this, you need to add the second database copy (without seeding it - using "Add-MailboxDatabaseCopy -SeedingPostponed" - this will save the log files necessary for the database
copy until it is available to add them) before you start copying your database files, and you will need to copy your database files while the database is offline - you can bring it back online once you have copied it.  I am going to guess
that you don't have the storage necessary to host your log files for an extended time period (more than a week), so you will need to copy the database and get it placed on the second server in a very short time period in order to complete this before your
log drive is full. And if you have a lot of churn in your database, those transaction log files are going to take a very long time to copy across your WAN link so they can be read into the database copy.
An alternate solution you may consider, which won't require that the database be copied manually to the new server, is to add a new mailbox database with copies on both servers, then to move mailboxes into this database. This will allow you to grow the database
gradually, allowing the passive copy to keep up to date with the active primary. You can move the high priority mailboxes to this database first, moving to mailboxes of lower importance over time.
I'll add a final note - if you add your database copy on the weekend, you may be able to seed it across your WAN.  My calculations show that this should take less than a few hours (easily less than half a day), which may be much faster than if you attempt
to copy the database to a USB device and transport it to the second datacenter.  That WAN connection is going to be saturated while this copy goes on, which is why I recommend doing it on a weekend.

  • Bring back Amply/Fade and other comments

    Hi,
    Please bring back Amplify/Fade.
    Here is my workflow:
When I record concerts (I frequently combine audio with video, but this is not necessarily the case), I need to cut audio CDs.  After cleaning up the audio files and applying affects (EQ, etc.), I use track markers to delineate where song tracks begin and end.  I then use Amply/Fade with the Fade Out option on small sections where the song ends.  Of course, if the beginning of the song has a beginning that is abrupt to the point of being jarring, I can use a Fade In option.  After fades have been applied, I switch to CD mode and burn the selected tracks to CD.  One of the great things about Amply/Fade is that one gets consistent results every time.  Drag fading (available for the beginning and end of clips) might be "fun", but I regard it as more difficult to apply consistent results.
The fact that the CD burn functionality is missing from CS 5.5 really restricts my ability to give CS 5.5 a fair audition.  I think that CS 5.5 sounds better than AA 3 (and this is really important to me if this attribute carries through to the finished product), but the final proof is in listening to the finished product.  Yeah, I can burn in AA 3 or by using some other product, but I have doubts as to whether I revert to AA 3 for burning, I am losing the improved sound qualities)..
Back to Amply/Fade...I accept, to some degree, the need to release this rewritten product without all of its previous functionality.  So, part of my evaluation process was to see how well CS 5.5 records and if its effects were not sufficient for me, to use it as a shell for third-party VST plugin effects.  My reasoning is that, possibly, it would be more productive and might be somewhat cost effective to stay with Audition than switch to another DAW.  While Ozone 4 appears to work with CS 5.5 (it shows, although I have yet to test it), some other VST plugins erroneously are disabled.
    Suggestions:
If possible, publish a roadmap for your customers, in terms of what features you plan to reintroduce and when they should reappear.  I realize that I risk sounding arrogant with a request like this, but at least for me, 12 to 18 months waiting for a "maybe" is just too much.  It would be good if interim releases could restore at least some missing functionality before CS 6.  Also, before the release of CS 6 (maybe this was done for CS 5.5), evaluate the product in terms of beta user reaction to the feature set.
    Final thoughts:
It would be good if you could post a compelling features list.  I have roughly 27 or 28 days left on my trial.  It's obvious that many useful features are missing.  Rather than spending the remaining time puzzling over missing features, I would prefer to spend my time gushing over how CS 5.5 would be a great addition to my tools.  Yes, the performance seems a little faster and it plays nicer with my current audio interface, but from the point of testing basic features, the speed doesn't matter.  And, in the end, it's quality of results and ability to adopt an easy workflow that matters.  The non-modal dialog design is welcome.  In itself, however, it's not enough.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi RY,
I can't explain why, but it sounds more "open" or more "spacious".  This is just a matter of wild speculation, but the best way I can guess at what's going on is that it might sound like there is an EQ boost at some point in the spectrum without having to add one.  I have not tried every possible combination, but for an audio clip recorded with CS 5.5 at 192khz and then played back within both AA 3 and CS 5.5, I can detect a difference.  And, while I have a decent audio interface, I think that my audio monitors would generally be considered to be insufficient for mastering purposes.  Perhaps someone else can weigh in (possibly from Adobe) and tell me that I am imagining things, but Durin has, in an earlier posting, said that CS 5.5 should sound as good or better.

  • Is there a way to bring back the actual tab "bar"?

So in switching from FF3.6 to 5.0 I have noticed that the actual "bar" that holds the tabs is gone.
    Observe:
    [http://i.imgur.com/eU7lo.jpg http://i.imgur.com/eU7lo.jpg]
It's visually slightly annoying to not have a distinct separator between the tab area and the button toolbar, but that is something I can live with.
However I can NOT live with the extremely annoying functionality drawback that comes as a result of this. In 3.X and before you could right click anywhere in the tab bar and it would bring up the tab management menu. Now you can't bring up the menu from empty space because it treats that space as part of the rest of the UI and gives you a different menu, forcing you to mouse all the way over to a tab to accomplish the same end.
So my question is, does anyone know of a way, or an addon, that can bring back the actual tab bar? I find all of these UI changes to be nothing short of infuriating. I swear, Mozilla, Facebook, Pandora, Google, and Microsoft must all be in cahoots with each other because they're all introducing horrible UI designs at the same time.

Well I guess that's kind of cool that you can add buttons in the bar as well, but I honestly don't have a use for that and I think it would get in the way more often than not in most scenarios I can think of (there's a reason buttons were segregated from the tab bar and it wasn't tech limitations). The previous functionality is much more convienent and useful and, well, functional.
As for why FF5, well I've had the FF5 installation since before 6.0 was out, but the UI changes angered me so much that I abandoned it after about 20 minutes and went back to using my 3.6 installation; I've been letting the community stew and cook up solutions to the UI problems (status4evar for example) and like any good stew, giving it more time is better. Also a whole bunch of my addons (some of which are mission-critical to my browsing needs) were not [and a small few are still not] compatible with anything above 3.x, 4.x, or 5.x so I had to wait for those (mmm, stew). And then to top it off I figure the possibility that I'll run into upgrade problems is smaller if I go through the chain of updates rather than jumping from 3.6 straight to 7. And don't get me started on the whole rapid release schedule. :P

  • I I have a late 2005 power PC G5 that I want to bring back to life.  I need to replace the original hard drive, a Maxtor 250 GB Sata.  Can I replace it with modern drives, SATA 5-6 etc?

I have a late 2005 power PC G5 that I want to bring back to life.  I need to replace the original hard drive, a Maxtor 250 GB Sata.  Can I replace it with modern drives, SATA 5-6 etc?

I knew I should never get rid of my old G5's.  By the way, there is a browser still supported for the PPC, TenFourFox, if you're not using it already.  Go to the Floodgap website (they author it)  download it for free.  The only thing it doesn't support is the Flash plugin, but the browser works great. Other video types are supported.  It's based on Firefox, and runs most of the plugins and add-ons. It's very fast, and beats all other browsers on the browser compatibility and speed test.  That's now my default on my G5's.  Firefox and Safari are no longer supported.  As far as the OS, both Tiger and Leopard were solid for me.  The reason, as I stated before, was iMovie.  The version in Tiger with iLife was far superior to what Apple changed it to.  They 'dumbed it down' for the masses.  Even the newest iLife 11 on my Mac Pro quad isn't is good, in my opinion.  So Leopard should be fine for you.  It's a much larger browser in terms of sheer megabytes and disk space, but it's fine.  As far as getting an OS disc, I'm seeing Tiger for about $45.00, Leopard for $50 - 60.00 on that famous auction site.  As far as RAM, I have 8GB in my G5 2.3, but you should check Activity Monitor when you are running your apps.  See how much green slice you have left (unused RAM).  You might find you don't need eight.  A Mac Pro will grab more free RAM than a PPC machine will.  I have a hard time maxing out use of my 8 on the PPC.  Not true with the eight on my Mac Pro.  The OS doesn't hesitate to grab and use it.  You might be OK with 6GB on your PPC. More will not make you faster, as long as you still have free RAM available.  As far as backup on your resurrected machine:  look for a firewire enabled backup if can.  Use CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) and make a clone backup.  Next time your PPC machine wipes out the hard drive, just take your Firewire drive and plug it into another PPC machine, and you can select it as your boot drive. You'll be back and running in five minutes.  You can also take the physical drive out of your enclosure, and put it in your tower to replace the failed drive, and you'll be back to where you were in less than ten minutes, OS and all.  The PowerMac has an 800 port, so you can do the 800 on the machine to an 800 port on your backup. A firewire 800 to 800 cable is only about $8.00.  It runs nice and fast through the 800 port.  I like the OWC Mercury Extreme enclosures.  They use USB, Firewire 800, and eSATA, so all your options are open.

  • Is Windows 8.1 Update 2 bringing back the start menu?

Was browsing group policies in Windows 10 GPMC, and discovered something new... Start Menu layout. But the requirement is "At least Windows 8.1 Update 2". So is 8.1 Update 2 bringing back the start menu? This could change before the final release
of Windows 10 obviously, and they might have originally planned to bring it back in 8.1, before deciding to make it a big deal for Windows 10, but an interesting discovery nonetheless.

Unfortunately, there will be no Windows 8.1 Update 2.  If you want the new Start Menu design, you'll need to upgrade to Windows 10.
"...customers can expect that we’ll use our already existing monthly update process to deliver more frequent improvements along with the security updates normally provided as part of “Update Tuesday.” So despite rumors and speculation, we are not planning
to deliver a Windows 8.1 “Update 2.”  (Copied from this blog)

  • Hi,This morning I wanted to call, so I took my phone ( Iphone 4 S) ,but my All contacts list was empty! I checked in my computer ( windows 8) I have them in Iclould. How can I bring back my data?

Hi,This morning I wanted to call, so I took my phone ( Iphone 4 S) ,but my All contacts list was empty! I checked in my computer ( windows 8) I have them in Iclould. How can I bring back my data?

    Hello Noushin,
It sounds like you are unable to see your contacts in the phone, but have confirmed they are still at http://www.icloud.com. I would next try these troubleshooting steps from the article named:
    iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Contacts
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3998
If you're using iOS 7, quit and restart the Contacts app on your iOS device:
Press the Home button twice to see preview screens of the apps you have open.
Find the Contacts preview screen and swipe it up and out of preview to quit the application.
Tap the Home button to return to your Home screen.
Wait a minute before reopening the Contacts app.
Turn iCloud Contacts off and back on:
    Tap Settings > iCloud.
Turn Contacts off. Choose to delete data only if your data exists at icloud.com/contacts and on one or more of your devices. Otherwise, choose Keep Data.
Wait a few minutes before turning Contacts back on.
Restart your iOS device by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and then swiping the screen when prompted to power off. Then turn your device back on. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Sterling

  • How to get .oce to talk to DAS & bring back data in Interactive Reporting?

    Hi Hyperion Experts,
This is also a fairly basic question, I use Hyperion 9.3.1 and I have Shared Services, Workspace and Interactive Reporting Studio running on our Windows 2003 Server.
My goal is to import a .bqy document I created in Interactive Reporting Studio into workspace, and be able to click on the "refresh" button and see it refreshes the data from the backend Oracle 10g database.
I have completed the following steps so far,
    1. I have created a DSN. This DSN, named "Oracle 10g Data Source", when I clicked on "Test Connection" button, It ran successfully.
    2. I have created a new Datasource entry in the DAS service. If I double click on the newly created Datasource entry, the screen would display the following details.
    Connectivity Type = Oracle Net
    Database Type = Oracle
Enter the name of the Data source = Oracle 10g Data Source
Select the name of the Data source (it is grayed out, nothing selected)
Server/File (it is grayed out, nothing entered)
then, followed by some default connection parameters.
    3. I have created a "Oracle 10g Data Source.oce" file using the Interactive Reporting Studio. I saved the .oce file at
    C:\Hyperion\BIPlus\data\Open Catalog Extensions\Oracle 10g Data Source.oce
    4. I created a new constrProj_Oracle10gOCE.bqy, during the creation, I chose
"Create a new document with Recent Database Connection File" option, then I chose the Oracle 10g Data Source.oce that I have created in step 3. After I log in with host user/password, I have created a data model and I see that it brings back a data set when I clicked on the "process" button. I saved this .bqy document.
    5.
I imported the Oracle 10g Data Source.oce and constrProj_Oracle10gOCE.bqy into the workspace under a folder called
    Root/MYBI/Test
    6. I right click on the constrProj_Oracle10gOCE.bqy document, and chose "Open". It opened with Results section highlighted on the left hand side, and with data showing on the right hand side. However, when I clicked on the "refresh" button, I'd get a message box with a red X. It says,
An Interactive Reporting Service error has occurred -
    Failed to acquire requested service.
    (2001)
I guess the data I see in this constrProj_Oracle10gOCE.bqy was just the cached data that was brought back when I hit the process button of this .bqy when it was first created in the Studio, and that it never established any connection via the DAS service to the backend.
Could someone please show me what I have done wrong here?
    thanks,
    hypuser1010

    EricaHarris,
Yes, the issue is still open. Obviously, I have gone down the path of "Scenario One".
Based on your reply, I have done the following.
There are three things I am configuring here: DSN, DAS and OCE.
    1) When I created the DSN,
I started the ODBC Data Source Administrator, Click on second tab "System DSN". I added a new ODBC Data Source.
Data Source Name = Oracle 10g Data Source
    TNS Service Name = //146-abc.xyz.com:1521/MYORCL0617
    2) I re-created the DAS entry, per your suggestion, I made sure that "the name of the data source will be the host name you specified in your OCE".
    Connectivity Type = Oracle Net
    Database Type = Oracle
Enter the name of the data source= //146-abc.xyz.com:1521/MYORCL0617
    3) for my OCE, I specified
    Connection Software = Oracle Net
    type of Database = Oracle
    on the first screen.
then, on the next screen, I specified
    Host = //146-abc.xyz.com:1521/MYORCL0617
I reployed the OCE, the .bqy document and restarted DAS. Yes, my .bqy document does refresh its data successfully from the backend.
However, I am not 100% convinced that the .bqy uses the OCE which talks to the DAS, which talks to the DSN entry and brings data back to the .bqy document.
    Here is what I did,
I opened up the DSN entry, changed the TNS Service Name from //146-abc.xyz.com:1521/MYORCL0617 to
//146-abc.xyz.com:1521/NONSENSE. I then restarted DAS and redeployed the .bqy document. the .bqy document is still able to refresh its data. So, I have just proven that the .bqy document does not need a valid DSN entry to work, how come??
Can you (or anyone) please explain the phenomenon that I see?
Also, a very basic question. you know that when you create a .bqy in the Studio, you "import" an OCE into the .bqy document so that the .bqy knows that it should use this OCE to talk to the backend data source. but, when you deploy this .bqy in workspace, how does the .bqy know that it is supposed to go through DAS (and DSN) to interact with the database, rather than the "internal" OCE that was pre-built with this .bqy?
    thanks,
    hypuser1010
