Change Minutes Plan = $500 Bill

Back in October I called the 1-800 line to inquire about having a lower allotment of minutes for the two lines on my account because of the fact that we hardly use any of them. The representative I talked to was able to take our 700 minutes plan and drop it down to 450 and all seemed well. Saved around $40 per month on my bill. Fast forward to this past Sunday (12/29) and I received my e-mail reminder that my bill was available for viewing/payment. I look and come to see the amount had jumped to a staggering $511.07 (see screenshot below).
(image containing phone number removed)
I immediately called the 1-800 line to find out why it was so high and the representative I talked to (named Sam, no last name) informed me that when I made the plan change of 700 minutes to 450 minutes, that doing so took away the unlimited messaging feature. Thus the two lines were charged per message sent/received. This was not mentioned to me when I made that change back in October. Sam put me back on the 700 minutes/unlimited messaging and said he escalated the matter and would contact me the following day (12/30) with an update on the matter. Sam did contact me the following day (after I requested an update through online chat) and he informed me that he was still waiting review from his supervisor and would contact me the following day (12/31).
Yesterday came and went without an update from Sam and this morning, I called the 1-800 line and the representative I talked to today (Genesis, badge: (removed)) was far more helpful in that first she informed me that when I made the initial call on Sunday, the billing error should have been rectified right then and there. She then proceed to fix the issue which resulted in her crediting my account an amount of $297.40 (see screenshot below). Genesis informed me that by the end of the day when check my account, the balance should no longer be $511.07, rather $213.67 after the credit has been applied. As of writing this post, the amount still shows $511.07.
(image containing private info removed)
That said, an amount of $213.67 is still more than what I have been paying in the past (see screenshot below) and while I am very appreciative of the help Genesis provided this morning, I do not consider the matter to be completely rectified. I made a change on my plan but was not informed at that time that a key feature would be taken away and now I'm stuck with an abnormally high bill.
Is the credit of $297.40 the best that can be done in terms of rectifying this or can more be done? I gotta say, looking at the prices of the other carriers, it's looking like a switch is going to be in order and this billing snafu is only accelerating it.

For it to be cheaper changing from 3GB to 10GBm you would need 6 or more lines on your account. 3gb is $40 per month and 10 GB is $100 per month. For lines out of contract, you get an additional $10 per month discount, but only on lines out of contract (on NEXT or completed 2 year contract or Bring your own phone).
The out of contract discount is $15 for plans that have data plans of 6Gb or smaller and $25 discount for plans that have 10GB or larger.
If you change mid cycle, there will be a prorated charges for the partial month.
If the original poster normally uses 1-2GB over their plan allowance, then it wouldn't take as many phones on the account for the 10GB plan to be cheaper.

  • Last day of billing period - do I change (# of minutes) plan TODAY or tomorrow?!

I had to 'change my plan' for the last 4 days of my billing month in order to add on minutes to my 700 min plan, without getting charged $.45/minute extra. The 4 days are up TODAY, but not until mid-night.  HOW/WHEN do I change back to my usuallly sufficient 700 minute plan - if I do it today, will it IMMEDIATELY end my extra minutes for this billing period and change it back, or is it assumed...never like to do that...that it will take effect TOMORROW, which is the start of my new billing period. what's the worst if I wait until tomorrow...will they just pro-rate? Thank you!!

I can only hope that you had this change backdated to the beginning of your current billing cycle, so that you won't get the extra charges that you are trying to avoid.
For example, if you did not backdate the change with 4 days left on your 30 day cycle: For the 1st 26 days of your cycle, you would have had an allowance of 607(26/30x700=607) voice minutes with anything over that charged at the $0.45/minute rate. For the last 4 days of your cycle, you would have had 187(4/30x1400=187) voice minutes and anything over that charged at the $0.40/minute rate.
If you backdated the change to the beginning of your current cycle, you would have had 1400 minute allowance to use over the entire month.
As to changing back, you can do it at any time, just have it take effect at the beginning of your next billing cycle. That way, it will take effect at the end of your current billing cycle and you will have 700 minutes to use for your next billing cycle.

    Hello
For your requirement, you can place a Billing Request Order in b/w Contract & Billing Document.
    Contract
    ->
    Billing Request (Sales Order)
    ->
    Invoice
This will provide you a fexibility of changing quantities before invoicing the same.

  • Which time during my billing cycle should I change my plan

I'm currently on a 15 GB shared plan and I've gone over by 4GB this month. My cycle ends today, August 4th. Should I upgrade to the 20GB plan today or wait until tomorrow which would be the first day of my new billing cycle? I'm just trying to avoid additional charges because of switching at the wrong time.

Change it today and backdate it to the beginning of the current cycle! When you choose the new plan, it will default to today's date, but you will see a link "change this date". If you use today's default date, it will only prorate the change and one day at the new rate won't really help you. By backdating it, you'll save considerable money. The 4 gb overage charge is $60. The rate for the 20 gb plan is only an additional $20, saving you $40.Then tomorrow, you can go back in and change your plan back to 15 GB for the new cycle, if that works for you.

  • AT&T Changed My Plan without my consent, took away my Unlimited Data Plan and 7500 rollover min

I have been a loyal customer since 2007. I have had AT&T's unlimited data plan on my iPhones since 2007. Well that all changed in May of 2013, unbeknownst to me! In May, AT&T took away my FamilyTalk Nation 1400 with Rollover minutes plan and arbitrarily enrolled my family in their 10GB shared data plan. We were not notified and we were not asked if we approved the change. We had about 7,500 banked rollover minutes. My phone is 1 of 4 on the family account. I had the original iphone in 2007 and have been with AT&T ever since because of the awesome $30 a month grandfathered unlimited data plan. To save money on minutes and texting, I moved my phone over to my family's shared plan about 2 years ago. I was able to keep my $30 a month unlimited data. Well in May, AT&T changed our plans and we didn't know. Had I been monitoring the bill, I would have likely caught this change. However, my parents were the ones paying the bill, and I would just send them my share every month. I received some weird text messages in the last few weeks saying I was getting close to my data limit. Hmmm, data limit? But I have unlimited data? That's when I went online, checked the bill, and saw what happened. I called AT&T, asked why the plan was changed. They claimed my sister made the change....I spoke to my family, including my sister, and no one had authorized the change. And since the monthly bill only increased by about $30 a month, my parents didnt bat an eyelash or ask questions when the plan changed. But we had a GREAT plan that was right for us, 7500 banked rollover minutes, and unlimited data for me. All that was taken away. AT&T says that since we didn't speak up within 90 days of the change, they cannot change it back. This is RIDICULOUS AT&T and I cannot believe this is how you treat loyal customers. Now we have an unlimited talk and text plan (which we don't need at all... we don't use that many phone minutes or texts... that's why we had banked 7500 rollover minutes you genuises!!) and a data plan with a cap at 10GB when before, I had UNLIMITED data. I am extremely mad that this happened. My family feels like we were slapped in the face. We want our old plan back. We want what we had on May 1 2013: our FamilyTalk Nation 1400 Rollover plan with our 7500 banked rollover minutes that we are entitled to, and my unlimited data plan for $30... because it was taken from us without our consent. If we cannot get our old plan back, the first chance we get once we are off contract for all of our phones, we are leaving AT&T and taking our business elsewhere. Has anyone had their plan taken from them without their knowledge? Lost rollover minutes? Been stripped of their unlimited data plan?

Hey JDom2, That really sounds like an rough situation. You're right, it doesn't make sense for AT&T to spontaneously change plans. Unless your account gets flagged for unusual usage, or needing help with billing reminders, a representative doesnt even open your account. It takes a representative to manually make some of the changes to your account, or of course of could do it yourself by logging into the webite. So ultimately a representative, either in store, or on the phone had to do it, while talking to someone. I personally can't remember a specific day or call  8 months ago, and it doesnt surprise me that your sister might not either. The new plan comes with unlimited Talk and Text. Rollover minutes are temporary minutes that fall off after a year and only get used if you go over your US voice usage. With unlimited, that's a moot point. AT&T starts sending text messages when you hit 65%. If this is the first time in months, you've used more than 6.5 gb, then this plan would've sounded amazing at the time. No conscientious rep would have reccomended make a change like that, unless your usage showed your usage showed you would have fit pretty comfortabled under 10gb. I might reccomend you check more what's changed in the last 8 months that your usage has been escalated. The sad thing is, customers who aren't used to paying a care to what they do on the phone, often leaves apps open unecasserily long period, or won't connect to wifi despite the faster speeds, or other things that are just generally a good idea for not just data, but general battery life and system speed. It's more just unfortuanate, whoever, perhaps your sister who was on the call when the change happened hadn't told you. Even if there was a misunderstanding, maybe she didn't understanding unlimited Talk/Text 10gb meant that was going to be the new data plan, instead of in addition to, if she mentioned it, then maybe you could've checked on it sooner. Reps usually are able to go back 60 days to fix bill issues, without clear documenatation. An overide from a supervisor, might let them go back an extra month, Sounds likes the representatives already engaged to see what's available, to just make sure you were getting all the support possible. If you really want to triple check if there' something someone can do, then of course feel free to contactATTCustomerCare to send a private message. I imagine, the rep who was originally involved in the conversation would have made explicitly clear that the old plans would not be available, and since your sister was authorized to make changes, (by virtue of being able to verify your account information). I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time though -Alex

  • Change calling plan

We are on a 1400 minute calling plan and are not using nearly as many minutes as we used to. We want to scale back down to 750 minutes. I have been told repeatedly by Verizon I can do this online, but I cannot find where. Under the Plan area of My Verizon it only asks if I want to change messages, Internet spam and other stuff, not my basic plan. It's like finding a needle in a haystack, maybe by design. Can someone plese point me to exactly where I can do this?

Under "My Verison" , choose "Calling Plans and Services" then "Change Minutes, Text, or Data". Note that if you have an old grandfathered plan (Like I have family shared 450 from years ago that is no longer offered), your plan may not be visible. In this case for any options on that page you should see a warning that you must call support to make the desired changes. DO NOT make changes in this case since doing so may change your minutes.

Also note if you use a substantial amount of Friends & Family minutes, these will disappear if you lower your plan to the 700 minute plan.
For example, on the 1400 minute plan you receive 10 Friends & Family #s. If you call these numbers for a total of 500 minutes/month and all of your other calls total, lets say, 500 minutes/month, then the minutes usage on the 1400 minute plan would only show up as 500 minutes counted against your allowance.
If you were on the 700 minute plan, you would not get the Friends & Family #s and your usage would show up as 1000 minutes, which would be your entire allowance and 300 minutes of overage minutes for an overage fee of $135 for this month.
Before you make this change, be sure that you will not fall into this category, as this could get very expensive.

  • Change Data Plan

I'm writing because I very dissatisfied with Verizon at this time, I wish to change my plan I don't use 700 minutes the most I have used is 125.  I don't even meet the text limits with the phone. I have  a family plan and the second phone on the plan is hardly ever used. If you want detail you can just look at the my billing plan.  So its seems that you don't have any other plan so you don't really fit customers needs. So the only thing to do is break the contract and not pay the balance to you and let it go to collections. It really seems like Verizon doesn't care how there customers are treated.

And you hope to accomplish what by doing this?  Verizon will make efforts to collect what you owe them, but at most, we're talking about a few hundred dollars, which is even less than pocket change for a company of this size.  So here are the consequences of this course of action.
For you: A significant decrease in your credit rating (which will not only impact your ability to get cell service from another provider, but also your ability to apply for all kinds of credit and may even affect decisions about whether to hire you), loss of your Verizon numbers (unless you port them out before you stop paying), loss of the ability to resell or use the phones currently on your account (they will be blacklisted due to non-payment), inability to get another account with Verizon until you pay the debt.
    For Verizon:  Basically nothing.
There is a Family Share Loyalty plan, call *611, let them know you are considering cancelling and see if they can connect you to someone in retentions who may be able to offer you this plan.  I believe its $10-$20/month cheaper and includes only 550 anytime minutes.  OR, you could cut off your nose to spite your face, whatever you prefer.

  • Verizon changed my plan without my permission!!!!!!!!!!!! I called them and got no resolution!

I received a bill today (March 13th) of $472.17. I went online to see why and I saw charges for international calling, but I wondered why if I had a Mexico/Canada plan so I called to see what was going on. I was on the phone with them for 42 minutes and they told me that my plan was changed to only US back on February 10th. I told them I did not make that change because why would I do that if I know I need Mexico/Canada service. I was transferred to the Fraud Department who said they would take care of. Call ended.
I went online to check how much I had been reimbursed and it was only $48!!!! Not even half of what I was charged. I was charged about $214.
I called for the 2nd time and was on the phone with them for 1 hour and 41 minutes. I told the representative exactly what happened she was not able to do much so she transferred me to her supervisor and he said he couldn't do much so he transferred me to another person. That other person had no clue what I was talking about and said he wasn't the person I needed to speak with so he transferred me to Customer Service. The person from Customer Service said he could not help me, but the Fraud Department would so I talked to them. Every time I was transferred I had to say the story over and over and over and over and I got NO WHERE! The last person I spoke to in the Fraud Department said that she opened a case and they would investigate.
This is ridiculous!!!! The amount of time I was on the phone and still no resolution! How disappointing! I need this to get resolved as soon as possible! It was a system error! I don't think its too hard to take care of! I did not make the change! Why in the world would I change the plan if I knew I needed the Canada/ Mexico plan???????????????

a grandfathered unlimited plan is only good as long as you don't make changes.  You can't transfer it, or use an upgrade.
    You did, you lost it.
TIme to shop for a current plan as a replacement...

  • I do not want to change my plan, but want to upgrade my device is that possible anymore?

I want to upgrade my families phones but i do not want to change my plans one bit, will the big bad cell phone company let me do that or are they going to be horrible and make me change and yes I will only have a smart phone.

I just went through the same thing. Unfortunately, I was not aware that the plans had changed and went in for my 2 year upgrade under the impression that my plan would stay the same, as it has for the last several years. I was told that they were no longer grandfathering customers into the unlimited data plan any longer UNLESS I was to pay FULL RETAIL price of the phone I was upgrading to, even though I was eligible for the discounted upgrade. I was very annoyed to say the least. If you upgrade and do not want to pay full retail price for your new phones you will be forced to change your plan. They back you into a corner and you have to choose one or the other. Personally, I think it's a load of garbage. I've been a Verizon customer for over 12 years and do not feel like a valued customer at all. I was perfectly happy with the plan I had because I had the ability to choose what was right for me. Sadly, Verizon no longer offers any variety in their plan structures to suit everyone's needs nor do they allow the ability to customize your plan according to your usage. Now you have a choice of share everything with 2gb or 4gb of data, or pay as you go plans where you'll get charged for every minute, every text and every mb of data used. I'm very disappointed.

  • The dealer changed our plan without letting us know about disadvantage.

An authorized dealer changed our plan without letting us know what is going to be changed, and we didn't even know they are changing our plan on new contract, we just found out, they do not want to answer. I want to know if we can get back our old plan, as the contract was signed under false information.
This is the story happened today:
My mom, is the master holder of our VZW account, we've been using verizon for years and years, and we first got our smartphone when Verizon just started selling iphone 4, we ordered it online when it was just released.
The plan we had was family plan with unlimited data.
We did not used data that much for the most of the time, but we did used it a lot for some month - thanks to unlimited plan.
We were trying to keep our unlimited data plan, even when my mom lost her iphone 4, she didn't connect with her old phone (not the smart one) so that our unlimited data plan would not be changed.
The dealer we made contract for iphone 4 has moved, or disappeared, i don't know, so my mom had to find another verizon dealer who speaks Korean,
because she doesn't speak English at all - but she's the one who take care of the bills and this kind of stuffs as she has more available time than me.
I wanted iphone 5 when it was released, but wasn't really sure about paying for it to get upgraded because iphone 4 was doing pretty well enough for me.
Then she found this dealer in Korea Town ( Ultimate Wireless - at 6th), and she told me that they could get us the newest smartphone only for $75 -
iphone 5 for me, and Samsung note 3 for her.
I was like - 'Samsung maybe offer some sort of special rate, but I'm pretty sure Apple wouldn't sell their just-newly-released-phone for much low price than 2yr contract price.'
and my mom was like ' i don't know but they said they can do it for sure' - so i was like Ok, why not .
I guess that's about an year and half ago.
Now iphone 6 is here, and i looked up on my verizon account and Sadly, my contract ends next May or something.
So I told my mom about Verizon's iphone trade-in offer and I feel  sad about that I am not eligible for it right now.
My mom happened to visit this dealer again to add a new line in our plan, and she asked about that trade-in offer and mention that her daughter (me)
is sad that she is not eligible.
And that evening, my mom told me that they said they can do this trade-in thing for me.
and i was like what? how?
and she was like 'how do i know? they said they can do it so just told me to bring the old phone'
Well my mom, is 54 years old Korean born woman, who doesn't know about technology, English, or any complicated stuffs.
She doesn't even know what the term 'trade-in' means, so that I even had to explain her like it's an offer from verizon you give them old iphone 4 or above, and they give you $200 certificate. But only for new 2yr contracts.
She was like 'well, she said she ordered it already so just go pick it up'
She normally picks up the phone for me (since she's always around K-town, but im not) but today, I happened to have free time on afternoon, and she had some appointment so I had to go visit the dealer to pick up the phone.
So I went in, they were nice and kind, recognized my mom by mentioning her name.
She, the dealer, was a bit busy helping out other customer so I had to wait for a while -
While i was waiting for her, I just looked around inside of the store - like TV screens promoting new phones, and new plans and stuffs.
Finally she got back to me and brought out the iphone 6 from back -
    and she was like
'Not sure if you know, but your contract has not been end - so it's going to be like returning and getting back with the EDGE' (speaking Korean)
If i didn't see the 'EDGE' plan stuffs from the TV screen, i probably would just go ok- ok- ok- thanks.
But when she just mentioned 'EDGE', i felt something is not right.
so I asked her, what exactly the 'EDGE' is, and what is being changed.
she hesitated a bit -and said
'Um... so you now have 6 GB data.. and ..'
i was like what? no no. we have unlimited data plan since our very first smartphone - and we never changed plan and tried keep the plan when even we lost one of our phone.
    then she was like
    "um...but..it seems like it changed.."
SO i asked When did it changed.
and she was like "i don't know. But you guys use only 3GB anyway"
I was like ' well, that's not important how much we actually use our data. the thing is we never changed our plan to keep the unlimited data plan'
and she just ignored it and move to next issue - setting up the new iphone 6 for my number.
she was like 'You don't need to give us the old phone. the payments will be billed to your statement and it's going to be.."
She was saying everything quickly and just briefly in Korean. She sounds like YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING FOR THE PHONE.
I didn't even know there is such thing like payment plan for buying a phone BEFORE I saw it on TV SCREEN while i was waiting.
And those promoting screens was made in English, while most of their customers are Korean who doesn't know English much.
and i was like "what? what payment? Are you saying I don't have to pay for the phone OR are you saying I'm paying for the phone every month?"
She was like " uh... I mean.. there's certain payment amount you are paying for iphone 5 currently, and this plan, there will be about $10 difference for the phone payment...and.."
I'm a person who raised in Korean till highschool I speak Much better Korean than English, but I was hard to understand what she was exactly saying
because she was saying everything so complicated.
So I tried to clarify: "Ok. so this phone - I am not getting it for free. Right?"
then she was like 'uh...yes - it's now free but you don't have to pay anything right now'
So I clarified again " so that means, I'm buying the phone. not free. right?"
and she was like "uh..but it's not that you buy this right now. It's about $30... so.."
She then was saying this very unclearly so that she sounded like the phone only costs $30.
"then why did you tell my mom that you can to trade-in deal for me?" I asked.
then she was like "I didn't tell her I can do trade-in. It's not trade-in"
So I told her" OK, as you know, she doesn't know about anything about this kind of stuffs. she doesn't even know the word 'trade-in' in English. She said she asked you about we bringing you the old phone and you get us $200 gift card so we would use that card to buy iphone 6 and she told me that you said YES YOU CAN DO IT, SO BRING THE IPHONE 4"
She paused for a while, and I asked her again "and what's up with the change of plan? Our plan was unlimited data. Did you tell my mom about changing the plan? If she knew plan's being changed, she would not do this with you, or she always asks me before signing a contract if there's any change. All i remember is you are getting us decent phones only for $75. How can you explain about this?"
I was amazed after hearing her answer
    "I don't know"
and her kind attitude was gone, she was like 'i don't have nothing to do or say'
I was so mad, told her to cancel the iphone 6, and I just left the store.
I'm not a person related to the law, but I've met some lawyer few times with my friends, and I remember hearing this story about fraud -
although the customer signed the contract on a stack of paper with small letters saying all about the terms and condition -
if the customer was been told differently than the actual contract info by seller, and the seller took advantage from it, then that could be counted as fraud.
I felt so conned and so sorry for my mom. I told her the story and she's mad, too.
My mom and I will look up the old statement and check records to see if we were paying for our phone during current contract and visit the dealer again if we find something odd.
But as from the story above, the dealer goes like she doesn't know anything about plan changes (even it was something she did) - so I don't really wanna talk about it with her.
So I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to go back to our old plan in the case when the plan was changed without user's acknowledgement.
Sorry to let you read this long story, sorry about temper.. but does anybody have idea on this sort of cases?

yes I knew it was too good to be true, so i was worried but their answer was don't worry it can be done, we are the authorized dealer.
If they fully told us about it, I wouldn't even upgrade my phone and just kept it up with my iphone 4 which I think is still working good for me.
ahh... I just feel so bad
I mean i might be ok with 6gb as we actually don't use that much for the most of the time, but still. This is wrong.
And they tried to do exactly same thing again. and just ignored the issue when I brought it up.
The reason I'm mad and want to get back my old plan is mainly because I feel we've been conned and lost something that we would not have lost without knowing it - and they knew about it all but hid it.
I don't know.. not just about losing the plan... but I think this is so wrong.

  • Change in plan

I am a new Verizon customer as of 3/18.  I started with the single talk plan for 450 minutes.  If I upgrade to the family plan now, will I lose the minutes that I have left?

Change your plan and ask for the change to be backdated. It will be like you never had the 450 minute plan but the family plan all along.
Otherwise you may end up with overages due to proration of the two plans.
