Suggestion to Moderators: time to split this forum into subjects

I think this forum went through significant activation and change since first initiated after SAPPHIRE 2010. As HANA went from the idea on the slide to real thing with many different aspects I think it is time to split this forum into few focused topics, e.g.:
- Business cases for in-memory technology
- SAP HANA platform and administration
- SAP HANA development (SQL, SQLScript etc)
- Data replication into SAP HANA (SLT, SyRS)
- SAP HANA Dev Center
- SAP HANA Security
etc.
BO integration with HANA should be in BO forums. BW-on-HANA should be in corresponding forums on BW and OS/DB migrations.
Thanks everyone for lively discussions (especially technical ones and contributing to this forum!

Hi Vitaliy,
Your suggestion makes perfect sense to me. However, as we are all waiting for the new SCN to launch, we should get prepared to do some re-org of the content on the new platform and not introduce another level of complexity here. I don't think a definite date has been announce yet, but we're getting closer to the final migration. At least the developer center will have it's own forum on the new platform. Plus, the new SCN will allow tagging of content, so it'll be much easier to keep things organized if we all show some discipline (and if we don't, separate forums won't help because without some discipline, people will post into whatever they find first)
cheers

  • Time to split this forum up a bit?

    i'm thinking that there is alot of traffic here. could we divide this up a bit... i'm thinking:
    maybe splitting it along the lines of iphone SDK questions and iphone app delivery questions.
    i'm also hopping they get the search back again soon.

    i would imagine that is frustrating...
    it seems that, at least in the past few months, there have been very few mac osx posts. seems like it would at least make sense to split iphone from osx.
    even still... just iphone traffic is heavy enough now that there could be further division there, but maybe that traffic will slow down with the smoke clears and submitting an app is a well-known, simple process..

    Which time zone of this forum belongs to?

    Hi, from my observation, it is UK time. However, you can set it to your local timezone when you are logged into your account. Once that is set, you will always view the forum in your local time whenever you are logged in.

  • How to split this string into 4 sections to a max 35 characters

    Hello,
    Does anyone have an idea how I can acheive this please.
    I have this string
    Expense_Inv_8- ExpenseInv_7- Exp001- Expense_Inv_6- Expense_Inv_5- Expense_Inv_4- Expense_Inv_3- Expense_Inv_2- Expense_inv1
    and I need to display them in sections seperated by ';' as explained below
    Section 1 Section 2 Section 3 Section 4
    Expense_Inv_8- ExpenseInv_7- Exp001;Expense_Inv_6- Expense_Inv_5;Expense_Inv_4- Expense_Inv_3;Expense_Inv_2;
    need to split this string into 4 sections seperated by ';' and each section should be of no more than 35 characters, if null should end ;;;
    Section 1, 35 Character ended by;
    Section 2, broken off after Expense_Inv_5 because Expense_Inv_4 will take it over 35 chracters)
    Section 3, should only take Expense_Inv_4- Expense_Inv_3, because adding Expense_Inv_2 will take it over 35
    characters, each record in the string is seperated by '-'
    Section 4, dispays the reminder of the string
    regards

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
    Whenever you ask a question, it helps if you post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) and the results you want from that data.
    I think I understand the problemk well enough to attempt a solution, but if the query below isn't right, please post that information.

    ,     SUBSTR (txt, pos_4 + 1,                        :section_length )     AS section_4
    FROM     got_pos
    ;As written, this requires SQL*Plus 9 (or higher). You can have multiple versions or SQL*Plus on the same client, if you really need to keep the older version.
    :section_length is the maximum length of each section (35, as you stated the problem).
    :section_cnt is the number of sections. In the query above, this is 4. If you change it, you not only have to change the bind variable, but you have to change the hard-coded SELECT clauses of the main query and the last sub-query (that is, got_pos).
    MODEL or PL/SQL would probably be better ways to solve this problem.

  • Split the Forum into new and Old

    When Captivate 1 became Captivate 2, there was always the
    question response from members "What Version are you running?"
    This message board needs to be split into Older Posts and
    Captivate 3. It would help everyone and the features of Captivate 3
    could be dealt with in one place. Most of the web boards that I use
    have several products listed and that includes versions that are
    split so that users can focus on the version that they have.
    There are many good posts and ideas here and we don't want to
    lose the archives, but Captivate 3 will not have the same answers
    as Captivate 2 and it is time to set this right, before the mess
    continues. We've got a new version here and a chance to set this up
    for that version.
    Webmaster, the ball is in your court.
    Joe C.

    Hi Joe
    And now, for alternate viewpoints...
    I am severely on the fence with this suggestion. Part of me
    agrees that it
    could be helpful while the other part(s) scream(s)
    {Expletive deleted} #@!! NO! I'll outline the arguments
    swimming in my mind for each possibility.
    Pros
    For new users, it
    might be helpful so that they can figure out where to post.
    But most folks seem to do a pretty fair job of sorting that on
    their own.
    For those of us that have been around a while, it
    might be helpful to know up front what is being dealt with.
    Cons
    For new users, it
    might
    not be helpful, as they will have to decide going in,
    which version they are using. As many new users tend to pay little
    attention to such things as forum guidelines and just wander into
    the first category they find anyway, I doubt this will help at all.
    I would guess it would just add another level of complexity that
    would be frequently overlooked. Thus defeating the purpose.
    For those of us that have been around a while, it will
    definitely add yet one more place to monitor.
    I think that Adobe is in the process of revamping the forums
    anyway. One thing I would see as being a helpful addition would be
    something like a FAQ page or category that could be either self
    maintaining or maintained by the community experts. If we had this
    available, we could frequently steer folks to this page. Hopefully
    it would be the first page that would open anyway. Maybe even such
    a page could further break issues and solutions into a "by version"
    category.
    Just a few thoughts... Rick

  • "suggestions"?! start again with this forum..

    vbuletin or even a phpbb (i run one) would be better than this rubbish, seriously!
    it's very slow and unintuitive (that means confusing).
    HP, good computers, poor support forum.

    This support forum is very well constructed, even though it is sometimes slow during 'Reply to Message', 'Preview Post', and with the initial loading at Login.  However, that might just be a function of how many users are online.

  • This forums is mostly similar to oracle forums

    It is the first time I visit this forum.
    I feel this forum is 90% like oracle's forum.
    Is this forum is same developer between this and oracle's one?

    If you are asking are the same people here? Yes, some of the same people are here, but I rather doubt 90 percent of the people here are also in the Oracle Forums.
    If you are saying the forum formats look the same: yes, as already brought up, many of the forums look the same and may even use the same software.
    If you are saying that the content of these forums and the Oracle forums are 90 percent the same, then I would totally disagree with you: almost all of these forums do not even mention Oracle and over on Oracle a vast majority of the forums do not mention Java.

  • Split single row into multiple rows containing time periods

    Hi,
    I have a table with rows like this:
    id, intime, outtime
    1, 2010-01-01 00:10, 2010-01-3 20:00
    I would like to split this row into multiple rows, 1 for each 24hr period in the record.
    i.e. The above should translate into:
    id, starttime, endtime, period
    1, 2010-01-01 00:10, 2010-01-02 00:10, 1
    1, 2010-01-02 00:10, 2010-01-03 00:10, 2
    1, 2010-01-03 00:10, 2010-01-03 20:00, 3
    The first starttime should be the intime and the last endtime should be the outtime.
    Is there a way to do this without hard-coding the 24hr periods?
    Thanks,

    Thanks for all the feedback, Dan.
    It appears that the respective solutions provided will give you: a) different resultsets and b) different performance.
    Regarding your 'truly desired resultset' you haven't answered all questions from my previous post (there are differences in the provided examples), but anyway:
    I found that using CEIL or ROUND makes quite a difference, using my 'simple 3 record testset' (30 records vs. 66 records got initially returned, that's less than half of the original). That's quite a difference. However, I must call it a day (since it's almost midnight) for now, so there's room for more optimizement and I haven't thoroughly tested.
    But this might hopefully make a difference performancewise when compared to my previous 'dreaded example':
    SQL> drop table t;
    Table dropped.
    SQL> create table  t as
      2  select 1 id, to_date('2010-01-01 00:10', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') intime, to_date('2010-01-03 20:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') outtime from dual union all
      3  select 2 id, to_date('2010-02-01 00:10', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') intime, to_date('2010-02-05 20:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') outtime from dual union all

  • Crystal report - how to split a field into more fields

    Hello,
    I`m new to Crystal reports and I`ve got a trouble. I have field which contains an address - street, city, zip code. The example is:
    STEHLIKOVA 977 165 00 PRAHA 620 - SUCHDOL 165 00.
    What I need to achieve is to split this string into three separated fields. I`ve trouhg a couple of forums but haven`t been able to find a proper answer. The problem is that the addresses differ so I can`t use an absolute defining of a start position. Looking at the DB (HEXA code) the parts in the string are divided by two dots:
    STEHLIKOVA 977..165 00 PRAHA 620 - SUCHDOL..165 00
    I`ve been able to work out this solution:
    stringVar array x := split({cparty.STREET_ADD},"..");
    Local numberVar i;
    Local stringVar outputString := "";
    For i:=1 to Count(x) do
    outputString := outputString + x[i] + Chr(10)
    outputString;
    It splits the string into three rows:
    STEHLIKOVA 977
    165 00 PRAHA 620 - SUCHDOL
    165 00
    And I don`t know how to find the end of each row so to be able to separate the strings and report them as three different fields.
    Would be anyone so kind and help me out with this?
    Thank you.
    Petr

    Hi
    Actually using a for loop is not necessary here. All you need to do is to add several formula fields: one for street, one for city and one for zipcode. In @street field you add formula:
    stringVar array x := split({cparty.STREET_ADD},Chr(13));
    x[1];
    Then you drag such formula field to details section of your report and watch preview to check if everything looks alright. Repeat for every formula field that you'd like see in your report.
    In @city you add almost identical formula but you change index, i. e. instead of x[1] you need to use x[2]. Then for @zip x[3].
    You may need to check if your address has all three parts - for example if you want to use formula in the second part of your address field you may need check first if there are at least two parts after split:
    stringVar array := split({cparty.STREET_ADD},Chr(13));
    numbervar c;
    c := count(x);
    if 2 <= c then
    x[c];
    Var 'c' is used to store the number of elements in array after split. Then I'd like to check if the part (second) actually exists. So I try to check if number of part that I want to refer to is not bigger than the number of elements in array after split (here stored in var 'c').
    Actually the code presented above is not enough since you have no guarantee that you'll always get address structured in the very same way. For example in demo PL database I have zip code and city in the same row after split with Chr(13) as delimiter.
    You'll need to experiment or ask someone to prepare correctly structured data coming from B1 to your report.
    Kind regards,
    Radek

  • Splitting of Cost into Fixed & Variable

    Hi,
    In our current scenario there is only one cost and there is no split between them. Now my customer wants the cost to be split between fixed & variable. At present we are using KP26 to plan the cost. Here my cost will hit only one cost element (say A) at present. Requirement is to split this cost into fixed and variable and send to two separate cost elements (say B & C) for the same activity type and afterwards do the setllement accordinlgy.
    Can any one please guide me on how to achieve this.
    Thanks & Regards
    Sreekanth

    Hi,
    1.This can be achieved by creating two Activity types .eg AT1 for fixed, AT2 for the Variable.
    2. Do not assign the default Activity type in the Work center (Costing Tab)
    3. When you want to create the activity to capture the cost at fixed and variable level, create a single activity and assign two different activity elements e.g AT1 and AT1.
    Now for these two activitiy elements assign the resepctive work center and the activity type as per the need.
    4. This will capture the cost as requested by you.
    Hope it works for you, Please reward points if found useful.
    Thanks!

  • Splitting a string into 4 equal parts

    Hi All,
    I have a string with maximum no of characters as 100,
    I want to split this string into 4 equal parts.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Regards

    Hi Rajeev,
    Use this sample code
    class SplitString {
           public static void main(String[] arguments) {
              StringTokenizer ex1, ex2; // Declare StringTokenizer Objects
              int count = 0;
              String strOne = "one two  three      four   five";
              ex1 = new StringTokenizer(strOne); //Split on Space (default)
              while (ex1.hasMoreTokens()) {
                  count++;
                  wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess("Token " + count + " is" +    ex1.nextToken() );
              count = 0;  // Reset counter
              String strTwo = "item one,item two,item three,item four"; // Comma Separated
              ex2 = new StringTokenizer(strTwo, ",");  //Split on comma
              while (ex2.hasMoreTokens()) {
                  count++;
                  wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess("Token " + count + " is "+ ex2.nextToken() );
    Thanks

  • Splitting HTML forms into several files

    I have an HTML form that has a lot of text inputs. I want to split this form into several pages using JSTL and Struts tags in the following manner:
    main file
    <%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-html.tld" prefix="h" %>
    <h:form action = ...>
    <c:import url=' file1' />
    <c:import url=' file2' />
    </h:form>
    file 1
    <h:text name=' ...' />
    <h:text name= '...' />
    file2
    <h:text name=' ...' />
    <h:text name= '...' />
    The problem here is that the <h:form> is on the "main file" and therefore I get an error in file1 and file2. Is there a way to pass the "prefix=h" variable from the main file to file1 and file2?
    Can anyone help find a solution for this problem?
    thanks,
    sgs.

    Instead of
    <c:import url=' file1' />
    <c:import url=' file2' />
    Can you test with ..
    <%@ include file="file1.jsp" %>
    <%@ include file="file2.jsp" %>
    My guess is that it should work since your stuts form tags in the 2 files will be ultimately compiled as one jsp [in the main one].

  • I suggest organising this forum by printer supplier for driver issues

    Here's a suggestion for the Moderators.
    I suggest organising this forum by printer supplier.
    A lot of the questions in here are supplier - specific. It would be nifty to be able to either
    a). check out general Leopard issues with wireless, set-up, sharing, or
    b). go straight to the latest scoop on the issues with Lexmark drivers (or HP, or Brother, or Canon etc.)
    Well, why not?

    Just a reminder folks, that this board is meant for feedback on the forum itself.  Any discussion of Verizon products or services can be posted on the appropriate boards. Thanks!
