Suggestions- design related printer??

Hello
I was wondering if anyone 'out there' could help me?.. I have some design software like Photoshop and the Macromedia suite. My dilemma is, I have a ******** HP 'all in one' printer. This printer is definitely not made for design related projects. =P It seems every time I print out a .jpg within a document, the photo becomes seriously blurry.
Could anyone suggest a good printer that is compatible with an iMac G4 Flat Screen? Preferably a printer with high dpi output for design related projects, and one that isn't way expensive.. probably somewhere in the ballpark of $100 to $200.
Thank you in advance for any help. =) *april

Thank you for your help, Barbara. You know, I thought the same thing you did,.. that it was an image pixel problem, but I have tried every trick in the book, and the photos still come out blurry.
The pics are high resolution, digitals, and they are crystal clear on my screen. I spent hours in Photoshop trying to correct the photos. Still, I couldn't figure out what was wrong with them. After countless hours of 'correcting', I had to give up. I sent my project just as they were (blurry when printed on my printer) to a professional printer. I was SO worried about how they would turn out.. When I got the project back, I was amazed with how sharp and in focus those same photos were.
Talk about a relief; yet still more confusion. So, just to confirm that my printer was the problem, I printed my project out on a friend's printer. The photos were like 50% sharper than they were on mine. Since my printer is an 'all in one', I think the dpi wasn't priority #1 when they manufactured the unit.
To answer your other question, yes, I have used HP manufacturer paper as well as other high quality, photo grade paper to print this project. While the pics looked better, still, the quality was no where near acceptable.
Whew, that's a lot of words; hope your still awake. =)
Guess that's all I can think of right now; thank you again for your help. If anyone has any suggestions about a good, design related printer that is in my price range, please do respond as well. Thanks! *april

  • Very New to Graphic Design and Printing

Hi - I have recently gotten into graphic design for print...invitations, etc, and I purchased an Epson R1900 for my studio.  This is my first printer purchase and I am also very new to CS5 (self-teaching over the last 2-3 months).  So, you can only imagine my printer frustrations...first I had color management issues (still do, but much closer than before due to online research) and now I am trying to load custom paper and print from Illustrator (also using Mac with OSX 10.5.8).  I keep getting a message saying "The source selected in the printer driver is not appropriate for the paper that is loaded in the printer."  What is going on?  I can't have printer issues every time I go to print something!!!  Please help me!

In your Applications folder there should be an Epson Printer Utility. You need to change to the custom size there at the driver level and then again in your print dialog when printing the file.
Many problems with Epson Printer Drivers. In my case I could never get the printer utility to show up on my Mac (even after updating drivers, resetting my printers, troubleshooting with Epson, etc). I finally gave up and started using my PC to print to this printer, so I could change to custom size and roll fed.
    Good luck.

  • Using Illustrator CS5 to design for printing on DVDs

When using a DVD/CD template to do a design to print onto a DVD/CD even though the template shows the circular shapes of both the outer circumfrance and the central hole etc if I paste a square design onto the circular template the design is not restricted to the printable area of the DVD. How do I achive a design that is just printed onto the printable are of the disk?

You would have to assign the circles as a clipping mask... It's irrelevant, though, beyond providing a visula guide for placment of elements. For commercial replication they will use their own masks or require you to use their templates/ specifications; for homeprinting you will have to use your printers dedicated DVD/ CD label printing software and/or whatever sticky labels paper you use and they have all the circles you need built-in...

ok.  I hope someone can answer my question.  I am new to photoshop.  I need version cs4 in order to work with a designer and printer on some logo work. I've tried to download it but it just gives me individual files with no installer and nothing - including the adobe "instructions" seems to work.  How can i get this software in a downloadable format? is it actually free - I'm assuming it is...  Hope someone knows the answer to these questions...

The download itself is free and is valid for 30 days only.  After that, the software ceases to work.
CS4 is pretty old, no longer sold and no longer supported by Adobe.  It's also not compatible with many modern OSes.
Why do you have to work with such an obsolete version of Photoshop?
What kind of "designer" uses it?

  • I can not figger out how to upload an image from my 2012 Mac air to avery design and print software

How do you upload a photo from iPhoto to Avery Design and Print label software?

Here's what works for me -
Open up Avery DesignPro (1.0.0 for me)
Select a sheet format (I use 8253 for mailing labels)
Click on one of the templates
Make sure "Edit Panel" is selected and not "Page Preview"
    Delete whatever isn't needed
Drag and drop a jpg image via Finder to the Panel
You can stretch the jpg to size and shape as needed
    Can also add
I've been doing this for quite a while.  Get a crash of DesignPro  occasionally but no big deal.
    Hope this helps.

  • Design and print personal checks

    Hi,
I would like to design and print my own personal checks, including using my own photos as background. Does anyone know whether Pages will do this, or if not, some other reliable software?
    Thanks very much!

Not true. Magnetic ink was used before OCR (optical character recognition) was cheap and accurate, it has nothing to do with fraud. Anyone can purchase MICR ink online or at office-supply stores such as Staples, OfficeMax, etc.
Nowadays, most banks use optical scanners anyway, so you may not even need it.
Anyone can print their own checks, no "registration" required.

  • Can anyone recommend a good app for designing and printing labels?

I have just switched from pc to mac and have pages on my macbook but it does not have a label function (please apple sort this out its the only major flaw!) so can anyone recommend a good app that will do what a pc does? I do not really want to pay £85+ for office for mac just for the word program

One way to find an app at the App Store is to use keywords.
Type   print labels   in the search field top right corner of the App Store window then press Enter or Return on your keyboard.
Click one of the apps listed. Always check Requirements under Information and definitely read customer reviews before purchasing and make sure there is a support link available in case you need to contact the app developer for questions.
This forum is mainly for troubleshooting the App Store.
For feedback for software designed for printing labels, try posting your topic in the Mac OS X community here.

  • Please Help!  All of a sudden my Epson workforce 630 won't print.  I have combed the previous discussions and tried the suggestions; still not printing.  I get an error message that says'"Stopped, Filter failed"

    HI,
I have combed previous discussions and tried the suggestions.  I am running OS X 10.9.2.  My Epson software is current( I just re downloaded all the drivers etc.) I uninstalled and reinstalled my printer.  I opened sharing and there is a name there. My hardware has this message if this helps:
    rastertoescpII:
Path:          /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpII.app/Contents/ MacOS/rastertoescpII.  I have turned off, unplugged, waited... nothing.  I am able to do a test print and all is fine.  Epson only assists via email and I have to wait 24hrs.  I'm reaching out here; been banging my head against the wall since 7am today.  I really need to get back to work, sigh.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Kristin

I was contacted by Epson support, all resolved. There were so many steps we did to resolve this; I'm unable to remember them all to share here.

  • CS4 Design Premium Printing Problem

    Hi There,
I have a PC with the following spec:
    Dell WorkStation T5500
    Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5520  @ 2.27GHz (X2 Quad Cores) 64bit
    12GB Ram
    Windows Xp Pro (64Bit)
It is linkled to 2 printers shared on another PC in the office a brother HL-5240 & HP LaserJet 2600n.
When printing from any app in the suite it works fine on the brother but when ever the HP is even selected from the list the App crashes.
I have installed the latest P&P XP 64bit driver fron HP but it's always the same.
Do you guys have any ideas as to why this is or maybe how to fix it?

I´m having the exact same problem. Trying to upgrade from CS2 to CS4 Production Studio.
I´ve tried the .exe fil. I´ve tried UNRARing the .7Z. I´ve tried using 7Z-unziper to manually unzip file...but no luck. (The .exe file reports standard error message and UNRAR is reporting CRC errors on several of the big files)
I´ve tried logging in a administrator, and turning of any antivirus and firewall...no luck.
Someone suggested to put the 7Z file and the exe file on the C: root , and installing to a directory located on root....I´ve tried that...but no luck.
I´ve downloaded the 4.6 GB file three times...but still errors.
I have lots of space 35GB harddrive space.

  • From design to print

I've been working with an 11x17 spread booklet layout within InDesign (brochure) and may be stuck in a bad habit. The majority of my work lately has been starting with RAW photography (after edits) saved as 300dpi hi-res psd files & placed in my spreads in ID (example: http://www.lifecareassurance.com/images/nov07.jpg . Well 6 pages of that & I'm looking at a 11,753mb pdf. The prints look perfect but the file size seems a bit high to me. I save as PSD PDF with standard compression with expert color for a high quality print on a 600dpi Canon image runner (C5180). As a test, I reduced the DPI of my images from 300 to 72 in PS leaving the actual dimensions the same. I don't see an obvious difference in quality within ID even in medium res view but, am I in-fact loosing quality by doing that? If so any suggestions for minimizing file size without compromising the quality. I have no problem with room on my server but, after 6 pages things slow down quite a bit.
    Thanks!

Right, Well not only laser but full color professional printing as well. I realize that I can test via loop or visually to see differences, what i'm wondering is, there any definite proven loss of quality in clarity or color wise OR preferred method of prepping hi res images for placement in ID... All my graphics are linked of course. Placing them.. links them. I understand that having my view set as hi quality is an issue but it's not negotiable. Cropping un-used portions is another approach I've tried.. Sorry for the mis categorized topic. I swear I was in ID when I posted. Now I'm unable to delete or change category (or am I?)
    Thanks for your time guys!

  • Best practice for designing a print enviroment?

    Greetings,
If there is a better location for this, please let me know.
    Goal:
Redesign and redeploy my print enviroment with best practices in mind.
Overview: VMWare enviroment running 2008 R2,  with ~200 printers. I have a majority of HP printers ranging from 10 years old to brand new. Laserjets, MFPs, OfficeJets, etc.. etc.. in addition to Konica, Xerox, and Savin copiers. Many of our printer models aren't support in 2008, let alone x64.
Our future goals include eprint services, as well as a desire to manage print quality, and consumition levels through something like Web Jetadmin.
Presently we have a 2003 x86 server running our very old printers and until 6 months ago the rest on a single 2008r2 x64 server. We ended up not giving it the attention of detail it needed and the drivers became very cluttered, this lead to a single UPD PCL6 update that ended up corrupting several drivers across the UPD PCL 5 and 6 spectrum. At that time we brought up a second 2008r2 server and began to migrate those affected. In some instances we were forced to manually delete the drivers off of the clients system32->Spool->Driver and reinstall.
I haven't had much luck finding good best practice information and figured I'd ask. Some documents I came across suggested that I should isolate a Universal driver to a single server, such as 3 servers for PCL5, PCL6, and PS. Then there is the need to deal with my various copiers.
I appreciate your advice, thank you!

  • Request suggestions for PDF printing of forms such as paychecks, W2's

This question is on two levels. I see this as an up and coming project at work, and even there I doubt we will be purchasing BI Publisher as we are in cutback mode. More inportantly, for my own clients who want an application on the cheap. I have seen posts about PLPDF. I would consider it, but then I am not sure who could host the application with the condition of needing plpdf as a requirement.
I have looked at FOP, and even installed it. Like many others, I don't have a lot of xslt formatting experience, and a cheap or free tool for creating a report format would be really helpful. Having to purchase a $600 tool really cuts into a $1000 dollar project.
What are available options? The key concept is I am trying to replicate other people's forms in PDF, such as W2's and Paychecks, so the look and feel has to be professional.
Way back in the day, I would write a Visual FoxPro app that used Crystal Reports to format the report. It wasn't too difficult to write applications for small companies that have a real business need and not lots of cash. I want to accomplish the same thing with a Web application using Oracle XE, APEX, and perhaps FOP or another tool. I just need suggestions from those that have already solved this problem!
    Thanks!
    Ken Lee

Suggestion. (you caught my attention with the Visual Foxpo talk.. Been there, done that, glad I am doing Oracle now).. If your budget is $1000, maybe you should look at a hosting company to host your app that offers BI Publisher. Revion.com (http://www.revion.com/hosting/apex.html) has a $9.95 a month hosting plan that INCLUDES BI Publisher as a feature).
In the APEX development projects I have , I have them hosted there to save the clients money & effort, since they don't need to deal with the hosting issues and can just use the applications I build and have access to BI Publisher for reporting needs.. You do need to download the Bi publisher desktop add-on for MS Word, but then you can access existing templates to print W2 forms, paychecks and whatever..
Not saying its the ONLY way, but I have found it the more affordable way..
(No I don't work for them, or get a commission for directing people there, I just send people to a company I trust working with..)
