Sun IDE Question

I've posted the question in the Sun ONE Studio forum, but no answer there, so I'm trying here, in the hope that I can get some assistance. This is not really about Java, but about using the Sun ONE Studio IDE.
I go through the tutorial building a jsp page and come to the point where I execute it. The compile runs clean, the embedded Tomcat server starts, the browser opens, and displays HTTP 404 error, unable to find the requested JSP file. The URL in the browser address is http://localhost:8081/WEB-INF/ProductList.jsp, and the file is present at that location. Entering in just http://localhost:8081 does bring up the index.html page I stuck in the home directory of my application.
I've verified that the Tomcat server is the default server (I don't have any others installed on my system), and for grins, uninstalled and reinstalled both the IDE and the Java SDK, with no change in the results.
I guess I'm getting frustrated. I'm sure it is something easy, some setup configuration that is not set, but I'm not having any luck, nor can I afford to pay the $200 support request to get an answer from Sun.
Log file for tomcat shows this:
2002-06-27 18:06:26 StandardHost[localhost]: Installing web application at context path /webdav from URL file:C:\ide-userdir\tomcat401_base\webapps\webdav
2002-06-27 18:06:26 WebappLoader[webdav]: Deploying class repositories to work directory C:\ide-userdir\tomcat401_base\work\localhost\webdav

2002-06-27 18:06:26 default: init
2002-06-27 18:06:26 jsp: init
Nothing looks like it broke, at least until I try to load that darned page, then the HTTP 404 not found error :(.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Try moving ProductList.jsp to the same directory as index.html.
A better way is to assign a context root to the web app.
In the Forte Explorer window, click on the project tab. Right click on the WEB-INF directory and select Properties. There should be a context root for the app. If not, enter one. e.g. "/myapp"
Place your JSPs directly in the document root (this is directory above WEB-INF).
Now try to view your JSP. The URL should be http://localhost:8081/myapp/ProductList.jsp

  • Is JES compatible with Sun IDE

Hi ..we are going to Use JES components like Access manager, Comm express, App serv Enterprise Edition for our application..
,and I think the Sun IDE supports Sun App serv Platform Edition.. How can I Integrate my application with IDE and the JES.
How can I run application from the IDE ,...Whether I need to install AccessManager..etc in my Local System.
    Ashik

JSE usually comes bundled with those servers from JES for which it has a plugin. JSE8.1 for instance supports application server 8.2 and therefore comes pre-bundled with it. (It also supports portlet development against Sun Java System Portal Server; but in this case, it does not include the server in its own installer, because SJSE8.1 provides a portlet simulator that can be used for development).
JSE8.1 also supports Sun Java System WebServer. But you will need to download and install the server manually (webserver is not bundled with jse installer) and also connect to the update center from the ide (using 'Tools | Update Center' menuitem) and download and install the plugin for webserver.
So, to work with JES from the IDE, there are two possibilities:
    - You can download and install JES seperately from the IDE. You will then be able to add the servers to the ide using the runtime tab. (You can of course add only the servers for which a plugin is available in the ide).
    - Or you can use the pre-bundled appserver, install webserver and portalserver on your system, install the ide and point the ide to work with the these servers.

  • MSVM to SUN Java Question

Hi, I've recently installed SP2 on my XP Home Machine, and was told in another forum I should update/upgrade my "Java". Along the way I was told to uninstall any reference to JRE/Java in Add/Remove Programs. I did not find any reference to JRE/Java or MSVM. Actually the only thing in Add/Remove was in Set Program Access and Defaults, refering to MS VM enable/disable, but wasn't able to select anything. Originally I only saw reference to Java under the Advanced Tab in IE7. It states MS VM with some boxes to click for JIT Compiler, java logging etc...I then did a search for "Java" on the hard drive and stopped the search when a folder called: Java came up in the results. It is located at C:\Windows and contains three folders 1-Classes which has a security certificate in it, 2-Packages which has 8 zip files and another folder in it called Data, containing some data file and 3-Trustlib folder with nothing showing in it. My question is, how do I upgrade/update what I have or what I need from MS to Sun. Or, do I really need to do anything? Thanks for bearing with me on the above, just want to give as much info so as to not waste anyone's time. Thank you for your time,

Thanks for the reply. I was investigating this
through a recommendation in a Security forum I was
in. I had a few security issues back then, and I
guess from one of my HijackThis logs someone picked
up I needed to update my Java. They stated to do so
after I updated my WinXP Home system to SP2, which I
have recently done. Do you have any idea, from a
security standpoint, why they would suggest I update
my Java (my MS Java)? Should I just switch to Sun,
regardless? Thanks again for your time.Newer versions of Java (might) be more secure than previous versions. However, it sounds like you never had Java installed before, so this is really not an issue. (Your browser should have Java but that is a separate issue, just make sure you are up to date on your browser updates). Or if you are concerned about security then make sure you are using something other than Internet Explorer (Firefox is a nice choice, but there are others).

  • Mac Developers - IDE question

A question for Mac developers - which ActionScript IDE do you prefer? I've loved FlashDevelop on the PC, but can't find the equivalent on the Mac which:
    is free
    has code completion
    The options I know about:
TextMate - isn't free. People seem to love this which I don't understand coz it doesn't seem to have code completion...
SE|PY - can't seem to get it to work on Snow Leopard, and I notice that the website doesn't seem to have been updated in four years, so I'm not holding my breath...
Flash Builder - isn't free(although I'm looking into installing Eclipse with Flex SDK), and I always preferred FlashDevelop for elegance and speed as an AS IDE anyway.
my next last resort option is to look into running windows on the mac...
Any other options or comments on my comments?

This is a weird choice, but jEdit (jedit.org) is actually quite an amazing little code editor. It is certainly not a full-fledged IDE but I have enjoyed years of PHP editing in it. It has JS code coloring and possibly completion buried somewhere in it--I've been editing my stand-alone AS scripts in it occasionally.
If you do download it, be sure to download the BufferTabs and WhiteSpace plugins too. And look around--there's a ton of plugins available to improve the performance of it.
EDIT: On second glance, maybe it isn't providing auto-completion. (Or just JS autocompletion via SideKick or some other plugin I have.)

  • R12 and Sun JRE question

Just a quick question related to the Sun JRE and R12 .. We recently upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.3 ..
We are still in testing mode but everything appears to be working fine so far ..
One thing we noticed is that we are using the Sun JRE 1.6_18 on our PC's and we have 1.6_07 on the Web server environment files.
    ex: in the .xml s_sun_plugin_ver">1.6.0_07
We also had to disable the Next Generation feature in the SUN JRE 1.6_18 because of different issues already known in metalink.
As far as I know the Sun JRE version in the Webserver only indicates the lowest version that can be used on PC's, all our PC use version 1.6.0_18
Is there any advantage in running the "txkSetPLugin.sh 16018" to bring the Webserver at 1.6.0_18 instead of 1.6.0_07 ?
Or can we just leave the webserver version at 1.6.0_07 ? as all our PC's use only one version of the Sun JRE which is 1.6.0._18
    Thanks

When reading note 393931.1, it appears that the version in the Webserver config files, only dicates the lowest version that can be used on the PCs , in our case we only have one version 1.6_18 on our PCs , so I assume that having version 1.6_07 or 1.6_18 in the Web config files should not make any difference in our case ?It is always recommended you have the same version of Jinitiator/JRE on the web server and the client machines. Not sure about the list of advantages, so you may log a SR for this.
Also Note 393931.1 mentions patch 4377566, but the readme for this patch mentions the following:
APPLICATIONS INTEROPERABILITY PATCH FOR JRE1.5.0_x PLUGIN
So is this patch also applicable to JRE 1.6 ?This is a small patch, so I would recommend applying it.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • BI7 ABAP+Java IDES Question (SSO);  URGENT

    Hi All:
I have installed an ABAPJavaEPEPCBI-Java usage type on one physical host. 1 SID (BID). I have set up all the SSO options as per the guid but am having some problems. Pre-cursor: The default UME client is (for 2004s installs) 001 and is so here. the default login client for IDES is 800 (I have it as such). J2ee-WAS has no client but for SSO they recommend setting it to nonexistisatant ABAP client, so I am using 990.
EP (990) [created the SSO certs & Exported] -> imported into ABAP 000 STRUSTSSO2. Added to ACL list (as client 990).
Question: must I log into 000,001,800 and add these to each ACL for each ABAP client? (So in 001, must my ACL be for the EP cert 990?)...must I repeat for each client?

  • Sun Cluster question

    Hello everyone
I've inherited an Oracle Solaris system holding ASE Sybase databases. The system consists of two nodes inside a Sun Cluster. Each of the nodes is hosting 2 Sybase database instances, where one of the nodes is active and other is standing by. The scenario at hand is that when any of the databases on one node fails for whatever reason, the whole system gets shifted to the second node to keep the environment going. That works fine.
    My intended scenario:
Each node is holding 2 database instances, both nodes ARE working at the same time so that each one is serving one instance of the database. In the event of failure on one node, the other one should assume the role of BOTH database instances till the first one gets fixed.
The question is: is that possible? and if it is, does that require breaking the whole cluster and rebuilding it? or can this be done online without bringing down the system?
    Thanks a lot in advance

What you propose will not work either. E.g. there is no logic implemented to fence the underlying zpool from one node to the other in such a configuration.
Also the current SUNW.HAStoragePlus(5) manpage document:
Note -   SUNW.HAStoragePlus does not support  file  sys-
                     tems created on ZFS volumes.
You cannot use SUNW.HAStoragePlus  to  manage  a
ZFS storage pool that contains a file system for
which the ZFS  mountpoint  property  is  set  to
                     legacy or none.[...]

  • How to code/compile/package MDB without Sun IDE?

    Hi
I am using Eclipse 3.01 so not able to levelage the native support from Sun's IDE.
Can anyone please point me to some useful materials? I want to know:
    1. How to compile? What are the jars required and where to find them.
    2. How to package and deploy to SunOne 7.
    3. How to run simple JMS producer and consumer as a standalone java client.
    Thanks,
    Jirong

Does SunOne 7 comes with a deployment tool like the
one with J2EESDK 1.4? Can I use that one to package
the web and ejb applications?Yes, Sun One has a deploytool for this purpose. Take a look into the J2EE tutorial available on the site, and you will find deplytool used everywhere.

  • JSF vs. JSP and IDE Question

I'd like to get an opinion from the forum, I'm looking to build a web application that provides a front-end to a back-end, batch Java app. The back-end app has pre-existing common classes and methods with all of the essential business logic.
My first question is, what platform should I be looking at, Javaserver Faces or JSP? JSF is so new and all of the bugs surely haven't been worked out, but it is the heir apparent new direction of J2EE. JSP is a little more proven, but a little more difficult to work in. This "more difficult" might not be so bad for us, because we've developed most of our back-end app without an IDE or drag-and-drop tools.
My second question regards IDE's. I'm relatively new to OO programming, and I've never used an IDE. So, of the many free IDE's out there (Eclipse, Netbeans, etc.), are there any that you would recommend for your answer to the first question? How large of a process improvement would you judge from a move to an IDE with drag-and-drog functionality?
So, in short, I would appreciate any of your opinions on moving to a new JSF standard as well as your thoughts on IDE's.
    Thanks.

If you don't want to sepnd much time and want to do something in the middle between JSF and JSP, you can use JSTL. Lots of cool JSTL components are available for free. Using struts (which is timetested) is also a good idea.
If you have never used any Java IDE, I would suggest you to use netbeans ide. Netbeans is really cool ide and has some good features like refactoring, jsp debugging etc. You will have to use Tomact as your server if you want to use JSP debugging effectively.
Eclipse with right plugin (My Eclipse) would be the best choice but you will have to understand some eclipse concepts before jumping on eclipse. It took me little time to figure out view, perpectives, plugins jargon.
Also My Eclipse is not free but it's very inexpensive - $30 per year.
All these are my experiances. I hope it helps you.

  • IDE question - please help

I was sold this board under the assumption that it could run several IDE devices.  I have two ATA WD IDE hard drives and two CD rom drives, but it appears that I can only have 2 connected through the IDE1 slot.
The IDE2 and IDE3 slots don't recognize the hard drives or cd drives.
I read in other posts that you could run the windows setup and click f6 to install the third party drivers, but when I select the VIA ATA option, nothing new seems to happen.
Am I missing something?? or can this board only run two IDE devices?

Just as a rule of thumb, and I realize you are testing stuff out, but when you connect two parallel drives to the same bus data will only move as fast as the slowest drive. In other words, combining an IDE drive and a CDRom drive on the same IDE bus is a BAD idea
Im reading this off of MSI site for the 915 combo:
     http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=915P_Combo-FR&class=mb
    On-Board IDE
One Ultra DMA 66/100 IDE controller integrated in ICH6
    • Supports PIO, Bus Master operation modes
    • Can connect up to 2 Ultra ATA drives
Serial ATA 150 controller integrated in ICH6
    • Up to 150MB/s transfer speed
    • Can connect up to 4 Serial ATA drives
    • Supports ACHI controller
    • Supports SATA hot plug
BUT then you read on and it says:
     VIA 6410 IDE RAID Controller
        • Integrate two Ultra DMA 66/100/133 IDE controllers
    • Support RAID (0,1 and 0+1)
    • Connect upto 4 Ultra ATA 133 devices
There is where your IDE2 and IDE3 connectors come in, they are intended for use in a RAID configuration. So basically this board ships with a standard IDE connector for two devices and then 2 IDE connectors for a RAID array of up to 4 drives. PLUS the serial connectors, christ! THE BIG question is, can you connect drives to IDE2 and 3 just like any other drive, or do you HAVE to implement a RAID configuration to get it to work. I would carefully review your documentation for the VIA 6410 chipset to find out...
Although I havent dug into the BIOS information, I would assume that the VIA RAID chipset needs to be activated in the BIOS and then you would follow whatever procedure is required to configure it. Unfortunately if it was NOT your intention to run a RAID array you may need to rethink your implementation.
Hope that helps you. Im off to bed now, let me know what happens and good luck

  • Another IDE question

Sorry guys, I know this was covered a little while ago but I was too slow in taking notes and now I can't find the posting again :(
I am looking for a good cheap (ideally free) IDE to write my programs with. I currently use JCreatorLE which I quite like, but with my standard of programming I could really do with being able to step through the program and set up watches to see how my pesky variables keep getting changed.
Does anyone have any (and I say again) cheap suggestions that would have this function?

  • IDE question on 975x platinum power up

This is more then likely a stupid question and a easy one but here it goes.
I have the 975x platinum power up edition board and for my main ide i have 2 hard drives installed ma/sl and on the second ide i have 1 dvd burner set as a master. when i boot up and see it load in it just shows the 2 hard drives under primary master and primary slave and then i see like 3 other spots 2nd primary 2nd slave etc. that shows nothing and even in the bios i do not see the dvd drive untill it gets past that screen and i see the jmicro boot section and it shows the atapi dvd drive and in windows all seams fine. I was just wondering why i do not see it in the bios or on the main load screen under the 2 hard drives ?
    Any help would be great.
    Thank you
    Bob

    Hello bobndeb,
the board has two different controllers.  Intel ICH7DH is the primary controller (SATA Ports 1-4, IDE1).  All drives attached to the ports hosted by Intel ICH7DH appear in BIOS and on the POST Screen.  The secondary controller which hosts the 5th SATA port and the second IDE port is a JMicron JMB361 controller.  The Jmicron controller has its own BIOS/firmware.  None of the drives attached to the 5th SATA port and the IDE2-port will appear in main system BIOS or on the POST Screen.  This is normal, nothing to worry about.

  • Books/IDE question from a newbie

I'm an experienced developer of Microsoft technologies, but I'm at the beginning-of-the-road with regard to Java. I just purchased "Core JAVA 2 Volume 1-Fundamentals" and "Designing Enterprise Applications with the J2EE Platform, Second Edition".
Can anyone suggest other "must have" books for developers who are new to Java? Also, beside the ever popular and robust "visual notepad", what is the best IDE for Java development?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi!
    Two good books are:
    Java Cookbook, O'Reilly
    Java In A Nutshell, O'Reilly
I used them daily as a reference.
A good and free IDE I am using is called JCreator. It's pretty simple but is enough for me. Some other good IDE's is:
    Forte
    JBuilder
    Best of luck!
