Once in a blue moon, I see my application to hang at sun.nio.ch.FileDispatcher.write0. Following is some stack dump.

(a) Your title is wrong.
(b) If you are in blocking mode, writes will block if the socket send buffer is full, which means that the receiver's socket receive buffer is full, which means he is slow reading.

I ahve a shell script which spawn three jvms
Two jvms have XMX=12288M
and the third XMX=10240M
Basically each jvm has around 12 threads to read in xml files and process them.
The HP machine has around 70 GB RAM.
So, in total the java uses around 36 GB only but still it crashes.
I then change the xml files so that the third jvm does not read any files
but it is just spawned for the sake of it.
Even then it crashes with the same error.
Any idea what can be done to fix this.

Oh, another thing: when you issue "java -Xmx", you are specifying
the desired amount of memory. But in UNIX, there is a per-user upperlimit.
Try typing "ulimit -a" on a command line, and it will
tell you a hard limit that was configured by the machine's administrator.
Eg. I have 4G on my machine, but by default, my user account
is limited to 512M per process (and no matter what I type in Xmx,
my java process cannot exceed the hard limit set by my
administrator)

What does sun.nio.cs.StreamDecoder.ready() want from ioctl()

I am writing a user side driver for Linux (2.6.31) using the CUSE/FUSE libraries(2.8). This is a character device driver and I am reading it via Class FileReader. The java program works indicating open(), close() and read() are functioning correctly between the java.io package and the character file driver. The problem is with the FileReader.ready() method (inherited from InputStreamReader). I examined the source code (InputStreamReader.java) and found that the StreamDecoder seems to implement the InputStreamReader functionality. It is in the package sun.nio.cs and I have been unable to find the source code.
Could someone tell me where to find the source code for this package or explain what it is doing to implement the ready() method?

Thanks for the link. I knew about the OpenJDK project, but did not know that they had the sun source code. Sun's copyright in the source code header was just what I needed to make sure I wasn't looking at a re-implementation.
I went through (a lot) of the code, tracing the calls for the I/O handling. The ready() call went very quickly to a native implementation. I expected this, but the documentation in the code didn't give me any insight either (bummer). I haven't found the native code that links with this for Linux-32bit-x86, but I did get the driver's ioctl() to respond with the correct messages to determine ready-or-not. I'm marking this question answered, but if you (or anyone reading this) has information about the native implementations for the java libraries, please add it to this post.

Sun.nio.cs.StreamDecoder Reference

Recently I am studying streaming with IO classes, I have found that the java.io.InputStreamReader (in the source code included in JDK) have imported and used a class, called sun.nio.cs.StreamDecoder. However, where can I found the API and source code of the class, so that I could know more deeply on streaming? Thanks for any advance.

The sun classes are not part of the Java API. Their behavior need not be documented and should not be relied upon in most cases.

Each invocation of one of an InputStreamReader's read() methods may cause one or more bytes to be read from the underlying byte-input stream.
One byte read aheads are a fairly standard feature in OS/C/C++ file reading APIs.

Where can i get details about sun.nio.ch.SocketChannelImpl?

i have tried in java.sun.com.... i couldn't get it. Any info on what does that SocketChannelImpl class do will be very helpful..... Any links where i can get to see some sample programs on this will help me understand this very well....

What it does is what it is specified to do in java.nio.channels and java.nio.channels.spi as an implementation of java.nio.channels.SocketChannel. You don't need to know any more than that.

Sun Java Desktop System [ SSH hanging]

Hello,
I am running latest solaris 10 release (10/09 Generic_141445-09 ) using gnome-terminal GNOME Terminal 2.6.1 (supplied with solaris)
from within gnome terminal, as root, I can start interactive ssh session from this box to anywhere fine.
BUT
from within gnome terminal, as ANY OTHER user, the INTERACTIVE ssh connection from this box to any server HANGS (remote commands run fine)
This issue does not happen from within XTERM window:
from within XTERM terminal window, I can successfully start an interactive ssh session to anywhere (as any user).
so that means problem is either with some environment variable(since it works for root from gnome-terminal) OR with the GNOME terminal app (but it is working for root???)
root user is using /sbin/sh shell. other users use /usr/bin/bash. there is no .bashrc file at the moment,
can anyone help? do i need a patch? or reset some variable?

The session that hangs does it establish a connection first? Does it prompt for a password etc? If you could tell me the results of the below commands:
As root
ssh server
ssh user@server
As a user
ssh server
ssh root@server
If the first two tests pass and the second two fail then could you please send the following output:
As root
ssh -v server (just login with a password then kill the connection)
As a user
ssh -v server (again run either until it hangs or login if you can and then kill the connection)

It's an application protocol error. Either the peer has closed the connection too early or you are trying to write something you shouldn't.

All of a sudden I am not able to access my R12 system.It shows me 500 Internal server error.
I am not able to connect to database from client either.(SQLPLUS or any other tools hangs while trying to connect to DB)
Although I can connect to database from server.

I tried to bounce the system.
When I executed ./adstpall.sh it took a long time (about 15 mins) and exited with status 1.
You are running adstpall.sh version 120.10
adstpall.sh: Database connection could not be established. Either the database is down or the APPS credentials supplied are wrong.
USAGE: adstpall.sh <appsusername/appspassword>
adstpall.sh: exiting with status 1
But I check from server that the database is up and running.
Please help asap

I do not any ORA-12518 or TNS-12518 errors in the log file entries you posted above. However, please see (ORA-00610 And/Or "unable to spawn jobq slave process " And/Or "Process(<>) creation failed" In The Alert Log And/Or TNS-12518/ TNS-12500 In Listener Log [ID 416244.1]).

Error using transferTo function on VMS for long files

Here is the code snippet that fails, as you can tell I am not giving all the code since it is not required to understand the problem.
This occurs on OpenVMS

Unfortunately this is an issue in the underlying driver for the USB device. It should be fixed in the next DAQ release.
One way you could work around this problem is by having a delay after the read and the next line of code.
i.e

Current workaround is bouncing the oacore services.
Already raised the SR with Oracle.
Oracle support analyst suggesting to upgrade the JDK version from SR2 to SR11 or higher to fix this issue.

Internal server error while logging .

Hi Team ,
we are using Apps 12.0.4 & Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.5.0 - 64bi and running PMF module.
It is a two node architecture with db running on one node and CP,FORMS,admin , web on the other node.
The db node is having 4 CPUS and 8GB RAM which i suppose is very less and needs to be upgraded.
There are approx 261 apps users and size of db is 800GB.
on an average we have 300 sessions at a given time.
We are receiving intermittently the below errors in the error logs on the Apache.

i got the error in application log that libXm.so.2 is missing, then i installed openmotif to resolve it, but after that form window is not opening.

APOC startup failure

Hi there,
I have a little problem with apocd startup,
i've already set up the configuration agent following documentation on docs.sun.com
but when i try to start up apocd daemon "/usr/lib/apoc/apocd start"
I get this error (that's the output of apocd.log.0 in /var/opa/apoc/Logs, loglevel FINEST)
