Sun's JVM not working on XP

Has anyone been able to get Sun's JVM install working on MS Windows XP w. SP1a? Everytime I install Sun's JVM from either their website or by using their stand-alone installer I get an "IKERNEL" related error. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling but no luck. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

I have installed every VM from Sun since 1.3.1 on XP (now SP1 and SP1a). No problem.
1. Make sure that your executable is not corrupted.
2. If you have Anti-virus software running on your PC, stop or disable it before performing the installation.
3. If you have an ATI graphics card, get the latest version of the graphics driver from ATI. There have been several crashes reported because of a driver bug, that can cause either program termination, or worse, a blue screen of death.

  • JVM not working after installation of J2SE

My computer is a Pentium III 800MHz running W98se and Im having problems with the installation of JSDK.
I'm beginning to learn Java and wanted to install J2SE. Erroneously I downloaded and installed J2RE. Then I tryied to uninstall it but as I couldnt manage to have any result uninstalling by Control Pannel, I removed it from Programs list at Control Pannel and deleted the directory. Then I installed J2SE.
Since then, various url I try to open at IE (version 6), including examples of the inatallation of J2SE, causes to open an Install On Demand of the JVM. After the 5M download , during the installation Norton AntiVirus accuses xmldso.cab of virus, and I choose to proceed with the file. Finished installation, the problem continues.
Ive already tryied to dowload Microsoft VM from Microsoft site and installed it manually, but the same occurs. I went to Java Plugin page (http://java.sun.com/plugin), chose Consumer, and when I choose Automatic Installation, 2 things happen: first, a window open but no progression bar or time left are shown; second, after some time, when it seems to finish, the Windows show that very known blue screen of error.
How can I install correctly the JVM and JSDK? Must I first uninstall J2SE? And how could I uninstall them?
    Thanks in advance

A thought just occurred to me - you probably have 5 backups of your registry in the form of files named RBnnn.cab in windows\sysbackup.
If you can match your software configuration with one of the backups, you can restore one, taking your machine back to a previous date. The critical part is to match the restored registry to your software configuration. If, for instance, your software configuration had been unchanged for a few days before you did the first JRE install, and one of the backups is from prior to the JRE install, then you could restore that backup. Here's some info - there's much more our ther, use Google.
    Registry Checker
Registry Checker is a free tool built into Win98 that scans the Registry every time your PC starts up. If a problem is detected, it automatically replaces the Registry with a daily, new backup copy. Registry Checker keeps five complete backup copies of your Registry for a five-day incremental history. Restoring the Registry manually is a four-step process: (1) Select Start, Shut Down, Restart in MS-DOS mode, and OK. (2) Type scanreg /restore from the command prompt. (3) Choose the latest good version of the Registry from the list of the last five backups named Rbnnn.cab (CAB), where nnn starts at 000 and date/time stamps. The screen also shows Started or Not Started for each backup, meaning that the particular copy of the Registry has (or hasn't) successfully started your system. (4) Click Restore. If the restore is successful, Registry Checker tells you. If there is a problem, an error message appears. If the latter occurs, try restoring the next oldest CAB. You can manually run Registry Checker from the System Information applet's Tools menu. However, this interface can not restore but only makes a backup copy.

  • Is Sun's autodl not working?

Does anyone know if there is an issue with Sun's auto download site? I have tried to use it for several weeks and only get the following error.
Error Code 10 (10 Could not locate resource) returned from server when accessing resource: (http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se, 1.4.1)
I have tried several flavors of the version tag that folks in other posts have recommended and they all return the same error.
I have tried the PingAutodl class and get the same error for every version.
I also tried it from a simple Internet connection to make sure I didn't have any firewall or network configuration issues.
I am trying to decide if I need to host the JRE myself (I am beginning to think this is a good idea anyway).

  • Eclipse: Ant: sun-appserv-deploy, not working, help please.

    Hello,
Trying to use Eclipse: Ant to deploy using the build.xml to localhost. I have the following target in my Ant build.xml file, but it's not picking up the <sun-appserv-deploy> tag.
I have the following file is the Ant classpath:
    C:\Sun\studio5u1_se\appserver7\lib\ant\lib\jakarta-ant-1.4.1-optional.jar.
I'm not asking for Eclipse configuration or Ant help, but what .jar file(s) do I need and where do they have to be for Ant to recognize the <sun-appserv-deploy> tag?

The sun-appserv-deploy tasks are defined in the sun-appserv-ant.jar (which I think is in C:\Sun\studio5u1_se\appserver7\lib on your machine).
Check the ant documentation for instructions on integrating tasks into your environment.

    Andrew,
What java is in your path? (Use java -version to determine this). If you use java 1.4 that might be the reason. Please try java 1.5 or 1.6.

  • Multiple JVMs within app server - refresh of metdata not working

    Hi guys.
We have an interesting scenario at present when running our application within a new test environment.
Our web-based application has the facility to refresh it's application metadata. This should mean that the next time the browser refreshes (or a user logs in to the application), the application will display based upon the refreshed metadata structure.
Previously, we have run our application on an app server with a single JVM without any dramas. ie. the refresh has always been reflected appropriately when viewing the application - as mentioned above.
However, we have installed the application in a new environment where the refreshing of meta data does not work consistently. That is, only about 50% of the time does the data refresh correctly. This can be seen by pressing the refresh button in an IE browser, so that the refreshed data appears approx. every second time the button is pressed. The only notable difference with this environment is that it runs 2 JVMs within the app server.
It seems that in this case, the 'old' data remains cached for the 'other' JVM, and that when the browser receives 'refreshed' data from the server, it does not always source from the same JVM.
This situation can be resolved by restarting the OC4J container, but this is not a desireable solution.
Is anyone aware of an OC4J parameter that can be set so that the 2 JVMs can run in synch so that both are refreshed appropriately when our meta data is cleared (refreshed) ? I don't believe this can be controlled within the Java source code, but I'm receptive to any other alternate solutions.
    Thanks in advance.
    Steve.

I'd like to embed multiple instances of the JVM within
    a single, multi-threaded native server process. I'm
aware this was not possible with the Sun JDK in the
    past.
Is this still true (for JDK 1.4.1 say)?Yes, this is still true.
If it's still not possible, are there any timetables
as of when it might be available? No.
Likelihood?Check the current list of JSRs at http://www.jcp.org.
Ah, btw: Is support for VM unloading (during
    DestroyJavaVM()) available now?No.
    >
In any case: does anybody know of a JVM
    implementation
available for Linux which supports multiple VM
instances within a single process? Why do you need multiple VMs? Would multiple separate 'processes' within a single VM work? If so, have a look at:

  • KeepAlive not working with WL 6.1 SP1 in a Sun box.

    Hi all,
We deployed the same exact application in a linux and in a solaris box (for QA
purposes), and noticed that the keepalive configuration is not been respected
in the Sun box. If we telnet to our web server, we read the returning headers
    including the following: Connection: close
And actually, the telnet connection is really closed right away.
Those particular boxes are NOT behind any firewall or load balancer.
    Any clues?
Also, if by any chance anybody has seen the following problem before, please responde:
Behind a cisco firewall and cisco local director, our HTTP connection is been
closed for every request (keepalive not working as explainned above). But, in
the case of a redirect, Internet Explorer tries to reuse the same connection (so
I believe), that is actually hanging there for extra 3 seconds after the headers
are delivered (including the Connection: closed header). This causes IE to hang
for 3 seconds before finally reopenning a new connection with the server and request
for the redirected page. Netscape doesn't experience this problem, and neither
does Mac OS versions of those two browsers.
We saw it happening in all flavors of IE under windows platform.
    Vanderlei

I use Mozilla not Netscape but the installation should
be similar. Go to the Release Notes for NS 7.1 (should
be a menu item) and find the Java plug-ins section and
follow that.. As I said before, you might need to copy
a JRE DLL to your NS plugins folder.
Is JRE 1.4.02 is installed correctly, you should have
a Java plugin item in the control panel.I used to run Mozzilla too and removed it when I upgraded NS, which I use for HTLM authoring. Java worked fine with Mozzila.
When I ran the installer again last evening it reported that J2re had been installed sucessfully it took about 30 minutes to do it. Installed version is JAVA 2 Runtime Environment (JRE) Standard Edition Version 1.4.2_X
I checked the control panel as I generally do, and it was there OK. Nothing has changed - will check out The release notes for NS 7.1
    Regards and thanks again,

  • Client_host('cmd  edit c:\temp\file_print.txt'); not working with Sun JRE6

    Hi,
I am working on Oracle forms10g ( 10.1.2.0) with Sun JRE6 (Using JRE version 1.6.0_31-b05) which is working fine. the only problem is, when I use edit command, its not working nor show any error. Command I am using (to display the text file in command window) - client_host('cmd edit c:\temp\file_print.txt'); . the same command working fine if I switch to JInitiator (1.3).
    help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

In the [webutil] section of the formsweb.cfg, did you change the baseHTMLjinitiator to point to webutiljpi.htm?
not working nor show any error. Not all errors will be reported through the Forms UI. For java related errors you have to look at the Java Console. Please check the Java Console and post any errors listed there.
the same command working fine if I switch to JInitiator (1.3).This tells me the problem is most likely a configuration issue. Please list what steps you took to congifure your system to use the JRE over the default Oracle Jinitiator.

  • Sun Access Manager 2005Q1 session failover is not working

    Hi All
I m using Sun access manager 2005Q1,message queue 2005Q1, Sun Directory server 5.2 ,BerkelyDb 4.2.52 and radware hardware load balancer with sticky session.
I m have configured message queue and BerkeleyDB and both are running with any error.
I m using http://docs.sun.com/source/817-7644/ch5_scenarios.html#wp41008 doc for session failover.
Simple failover is working fine but the Session failover is not working.
Any body has done session failover with Sun Access manager 2005 Q1 I m trying to resolve this issue last two month.
    Please it is urgent.

It works fine in 2005Q4, after applying a patch 120954 if I am not mistaken. But 2005Q4 and 2005Q1 are probably different in terms of session failover (site configuration etc.)
    1. Stop both AM servers
    2. Set logging to debug mode in AMConfig.properties.
    3. Delete / move everything in /var/opt/SUNWam/debug
    4. tail -f /var/opt/SUNWam/debug/amSession
    5. Post that file here... you should be able to see if session failover is enabled etc....
    hope this helps.

  • Sun Cluster and EMC AX150 does not work

    Hi All,
I tried to setup a Sun Cluster 3.2 (2x T2000) with an EMC AX 150 Storage. the device paths are highly instable and breaking down time and again. Tried to install Powerpath software of EMC but this time the did-devices are not recognized by Sun Cluster.
    Any help will be appriciated.
P.S: does anybody know whether a MSA 1000 will work with Sun Cluster 3.2.
    Regards

Looking at the EMC link on http://www.sun.com/software/cluster/osp/ it doesn't look like these storage systems have been tested by EMC and so may or may not work.
You could try using Sun's MPxIO rather than PowerPath. MPxIO is included in Solaris for free. Again, it may or may not work. You are unlikely to get support on either configuration until EMC has done the prerequisite engineering testing to resolve the sort of issues you are currently seeing.

  • Sun's JVM works better with AMD or Intel?

    Hi,
I would appreciate if someone lets me know about
what eventually works better or more friendly with Sun's JVM (JIT): the AMD CPUs or the Intel ones.
It's a complex issue, I understand it, but I'd be glad to read some random opinions as anyway.
It just seems to me that Sun's Java works (a bit) better with AMD, I tried an app
on a x64 AMD of 1.8 Ghz and there was practically no difference
in startup time (and execution) than a Pentium D at 3.4 Ghz (which has 2 cores) -
I expected to see like a double increase in performance or so (yes - it doesn't only depend on the CPU).
From the JavaOne 2008 conference (which I watched over the web) I have the impression that AMD is
(much) more commited to improve the JVM to work fast with its chips than Intel (Intel was generally praising
how Sun started selling servers with Intel chips).
A link to an article/webcast/blog/analysis would be just great.
    Thanks in advance.

The more apt comparison would be with Woodcrest Xeons and later models. These should be roughly on par with AMD CPUs. There will be significant differences for some concurrent loads, but I doubt there's a consistent pattern where one CPU vendor is faster than the other.

So, I guess WebSphere is NOT supporting J2EE 1.4 at this time, is it? Found in the samples section comment "WebSphere supports Web Services for J2EE (JSR 109) which builds on a client-programming model on JAX-RPC". So JSR 109 seems to be a bit different from J2EE 1.4 (final)???
Anyone else trying to use J2EE 1.4 stuff in WebSphere?

Grmpf, same problem with application.xml in BEA WebLogic Server 8.1SP2
    <Error> <Deployer> <BEA-149027> <Unable to activate application, appsdirWuergServiceApp_ear, from source, d:\work\soap\WebLogic81SP2\server\samples\domains\examples\applications\WuergServiceApp.ear.
Reason: weblogic.management.DeploymentException: Error while loading descriptors: Error
    processing file 'META-INF/application.xml'.
weblogic.xml.process.XMLProcessingException: XML document does not appear to contain a properly formed DOCTYPE header
Seems Bea supports J2EE 1.3, there application.xml has to start with
    <!DOCTYPE application PUBLIC '-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD J2EE Application 1.3//EN' 'http://java.sun.com/dtd/application_1_3.dtd'>

  • Hyperlink is not working when running on sun solaris OS

    Hi,
I have Created PDF file using oracle reports 2.5 version and included hyperlinks in reports which will open files located on our intranet server(http://cup2.ngc.co.uk). Hyperlinks are working properly when I generated report on window xp machine but not working when I compiled and executed report on solaris unix server(reports 6i).
please let me know why hyperlinks is not working when executed on solaris((5.8). do we need any setup to work hyperlinks on unix server.
    Thanks in advance,

Ok, there are 2 docs i've tried.
A = Doc created originally from MPB Pages with hyperlink
B = Doc created from iPad Pages with hyperlink
A was transfered to iPad Pages using iTune. I emailed A as pdf from iPad to gmail and reopen the file on iPad using Quickoffice / PDF Reader Lite, the link is NOT active, not working. BUT, when i read A using MBP gmail, the link is ACTIVE, i click on the link and it brings me to the correct webpage.
As for B, after the page was created with links on iPad, i emailed B as pdf from iPad to gmail, reopen the file on iPad using Quickoffice / PDF Reader Lite, the link is NOT active, and this time, when i read B using MBP gmail, the link is NOT active as well.
Weird huh? I'm starting to sense that is the problem with iPad Pages. What say you?
