    Hello
I need help configuring the Sun studio debugger to work in fedora 8. The project is loaded from a make file, compiles fine, and runs fine. However, I can not place break points, and when I start the visual debugger, it gives a message box titled progress, and hangs on saying: starting debugger: /lib/libc.so.6
Running from the command line gives me:

I have another problem in debugging an mpi problem in another installation of Sun Studio on Solaris 10 on a Sun machine. The visual debugger is working fine there, however, I need to debug with mpirun
to decide the number of processors, because by default it loads the application on one processor. Iwill need to do this as well later on the linux machine I am using now, which doesn't even start the debugger on a sequential code so far.
I appreciate your help a lot.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi
Thank you for your reply. you said 2 problems,Yes, basically I meant these two:
    1. dbx: warning: unknown location expression code (0xe0)
    2. dbx: panic: "ThreadAgent::setup_helper"(): Assertion (ta_td_agent) failed - "thread.cc":2674
First one should be fixed in dbx itself, but the second looks like an incompatibility between Fedora's libc and dbx; unless distros in "supported" list upgrade to the same version of libc, dbx can't be changed to match it.
In other words, I'm sorry to say that you will probably not succeed in using dbx on Fedora 8 for the time being.

  • Suggestion wanted for next release Sun Studio installer?

My name is Ngoc Nguyen, tech lead of Sun Studio Support Group. We are in the process looking for design/modifying our installer per customer's feedbacks or requests. We really want to make it become your most favorite installer.
Please give me all of your ideas, suggestions, requirements that you like the installer should have. We will consider any feedbacks.
Or If you already filed a CR (Changed Request) before and you feel strongly that we should implement it, please give me the CR number.
We really want to hear from you.
    Best Regards,
    Ngoc Nguyen
    Sun Studio Support Team

I think new installer should provide an option to install the product as if it is extracted from a tar file:
    - no packages are installed
    - no changes in registry
    - no root privileges are needed
    - the product is completely installed under one directory,
so it is easy to uninstall this version - just remove one directory.
This installation is a very convenient way to try a new version without affecting any existing installation.
    Thanks,
    Nik

  • SQL Management Studio Installation Problems

My hard drive crash and I'm forced to use Windows 8 on my laptop for a while. Visual Studio 2012 installed okay but I cannot get the SQL Management Studio to install.
I have SQL Management Studio 2005 CD's and I've also tried to download and install the 2008 version.
But no matter what I do I cannot get one to them to install and run. It always tells me I have compatibility problems.
I'm desperate. I need this to work.
Can someone please tell me how to get SQL Management Studio 2005 32 or 64 bit to run on on this Window 8 box?
Or any version of SQL Management Studio to install and run.
BTW, I've tried running in compatibility mode.

FIrst of all, please notice that SSMS 2005 will probably not fit windows 8, but I am not sure about this (the SQL
Server 2005 do not fit). Please check this link before you wasted your time :-)
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0
"SQL Server 2005 (the release version and service packs) and earlier versions of SQL Server are not supported on Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8.1, or Windows 8. You will receive a warning in the Action Center if Windows 8.1
or Windows 8 detects an instance of SQL Server 2005."
You can use any version from 2008 and above.
    * If you are using 2008 express, then you must manually install Service Pack 3, after you install SQL Server 2008 Express Edition. In any case we are not at that point since your issue is with the installation itself :-)
    **** For our case *****
    1. You did not post your errors log till this time :-(
You only gave us stories, and no facts
    2. If you are using the free edition EXPRESS, then you probably be better with the new version SQL EXPRESS 2014.
    * You are talking about the SSMS which is not the SQL Server, but just a client application. Do you have a server to connect to?
if not, then you probably wanted to install the SQL Server with the SSMS tool, no?
You can get the new version (no so new) 2014 here:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42299
There are several files to download there:
    * SQLEXPRADV:  include the SQL Server and all the extra tools (including the server, Express Tools, Reporting Services, and Full Text Search, and more), is my prefered option for all developers and people that learn and use the SQL Server locally.
    * SqlLocalDB:  This is a different version that is much better for developers in most cases which they need to store the database in the application, it came to replace the EXPRESS "user instance".
    * SQLManagementStudio:  this is only the SSMS without the server!
    * SQLEXPRWT: this is the basic version which include the basic tools
    * SQLEXPR: this is only the server (this is what people install on production in lot of cases, when they do not want any extra tools)
*** If you have option to use windows 8.1 instead of 8, then you will feel that it is easier. I have to say that I too don't like the windows 8/8.1/2012/2012r2 but the 8.1/2012r2 brought back some of the old features and are better.

  • Java Studio Installation Problem

This is actually the very first time i'll be dealing with JAVA. And I'm quite excited. Im on my way installing Java Studio Enterprise 8.1.
During installation (the portion where an username and password is being asked), I encounter an error that says "Could not save the Application Server Settings...".. Why is this so?
Any help will highly be appreciated..!
    Best Regards

What do you have in installation log file?
    On Windows it's in
    %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\user-ID\Local Settings\Temp\jstudio_ent81-installation-timestamp.random-number.log
Also probably you can try to install application server as separate product.
    And a few useful links:

  • SAP Netweaver Developers Studio Installation Problems?

I am not having success installing the SAP Netweaver Dvelopers Studio.
The wizard asks me for the location of the SDK (SAP DEVELOPER KIT) and I enter exactly where it is. However, it keeps telling me that this is not a valid directory...Perhaps the files became corrupt during download?
Anybody had any experience with installing this product?

    Hi Tom,
to install NWDS you have to first install the java development kit.
    You can download it from

  • Sun Studio newbie problems

    Health!
I'm very excited to use Netbeans in our C/C++ project for linux because is my favourite IDE for java and I've evaluated other environments (kdevelop, codeblocks, anjuta, eclipse, etc) and i've found at the end that SunStudio fits my needs (autotools project, good symbol browsing ... I miss "Find usages..." ;-).
Alls seems perfect, but I have an anoying problem debugging postgresql. I've downloaded the latest version and I created a project. I've compiled it with both SunStudio and GCC toolchains but my problem persists: I can't debug postgre's bin/initdb. When I try to debug this executable inside SunStudio dbx frozens after reading symbols (the little dialog with the progress bar stops) and no more errors are shown on dbx console (only warnings):
    - Dbx console -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've seen the error logs on ~/.sunstudio/.../var/log/messages.log and I see very strange exceptions, but I think that only those of "unsaved_sources" are relative to dbx:

This issue is not critical because I can debug it with kdbg or sunstudio's dbx at command line, but it would be nice to debug inside the IDE is'nt it?.
Thanks for all this good piece of work and your support.
    Life to nb!!

Sorry for the delay (in holidays and other projects):
A note: I am running Ubuntu ;-) (our developer's platform)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Final Cut Studio Installation Problems

    Firstly, the specs: 2.8ghz 8-core Mac Pro, 2GB RAM, nVidia 8800GT, 10.5.2
The problem: I am installing FCS1 for the first time ever and am having difficulties installing some parts of it before the Mac Pro reboots on its own. Sometimes I'll finish a disc, sometimes I'll finish installing the program and I have to install the content separately. I even left a disc to install and when I got back home, the screen had told me to restart (kernel panic?). Kinda ***** that you get the computer of your dreams and problems like this happen...
I have managed to fully install (I hope) FCP, LiveType and part of its contents, DVDSP and its contents, Compressor, Qmaster and Cinema Tools. Not going to bother with Sountrack Pro as it's not something I want yet.
The one disc it that I can NEVER finish however is Motion. I have installed the program but I can't get the content to finish installing.
Can anyone think of what can be wrong? All my discs are genuine and are in perfect condition.
PS. The instructions says to install any program by putting the FCS disc first. Is it all that bad if I don't? (ie. install the program/content through the disc itself)
    Message was edited by: 321estrellas

Thanks for the responses. Kernel panics suck. I had one more out of nowhere and another one after I restarted after that kernel panic! That's seriously 2 kernel panics within like a minute. Haven't had one since but that's really not good...
    - The only things I have plugged are my keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers and power cord.
    - I was installing as per the instructions but after so many restarts I started trying installing using the disc itself (ie. when I got to installing Motion, I would insert the Motion disc and use the install options from the disc rather than using the FCS install disc first THEN inserting the Motion disc when prompted...seems to work both ways but both ways I am getting restarts)
    - FileVault is not on.
Will probably try an erase and install if it doesn't install properly but the end of the day...

  • Final Cut Studio Installation problem HELP!

    Hi
Ive just bought Final Cut Studio and have a laptop G4 and a new G5.
I previously had FCP 4.5 in the G4 and updated to 5.1 with Final cut studio.
Then I installed the Final Cut Studio on the G5. Initially I got an error message: "Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
I continued installing the software which took around an hour to load all different parts of studio package.
I tried to open the various programs but when I entered the serial number I get a message "Licensing error, This application cannot continue because the licensing data is corrupt."
I get this error message even when I try to open Motion or DVD studio Pro which I didnt install on the G4.
The licence on FC studio states that the software can be used on 2 computers (one laptop and one standalone) but not at the same time.
So am I able to use the software on the G5?
    Many thanks in advance

  • Installing Sun Studio 12 on Ubuntu 8.04

When I try to install Sun Studio 12 with the graphical installer, I get a message half was through that Java is not installed. In my case Sun's Java was already installed. I tell the Sun Studio installer to do the update and it finished what it was doing. After the install is done, I found that the Sun Studio executable is missing, so it looked like the installation did not work. What version of Java is Sun Studio expecting and does it need to be tied to a specific path? Is there a known method for installing Java for Sun Studio 12?
After this I uninstalled Java and Netbeans and started the system prep tool, which correctly said I was missing netbeans and java. I had the system prep tool install netbeans successfully but I get this message when trying to install java:
    error: Failed dependencies:

    Any suggestions?

I could not find any log files with error information from Express or Sun Studio 12. Any ideas? Not yet :-) Can you try to build and debug a sample project? Does it show the same problem?
I mean one of several sample projects, that are shipped with the Sun Studio IDE.
Start "sunstudio", from main menu: "File->New Project", select Samples->C/C++/Fortran->Welcome
Did you try to run compilers and other tools?
Please, make sure they work. For example, run the following commands:
    cc -V
    CC -V
    f90 -V
    collect -V
    dbx -V
    dmake -v
(Note: the last one is small "v")

  • Sun Studio is unable to find a supported version of the NetBeans IDE at the

I'm following the system install instructions in the Grid Compute Utility guide, Appendix A "Building a Local Development Environment" and am getting stuck on step 4, installing sunstudio. I'm running Solaris 5.10 on x86 and can run netbeans IDE without problem. Here is some info, I'm not sure what other system info is relevant:
    bash-3.00# which netbeans
    /opt/netbeans-5.5.1/bin/netbeans
    bash-3.00# which sunstudio
    /usr/bin/sunstudio
    bash-3.00# sunstudio
    Validating NetBeans IDE at: "/opt/SUNWspro/../netbeans-5.5.1"
Sun Studio is unable to find a supported version of the NetBeans IDE at the specified location.
Sun Studio requires a NetBeans IDE version 5.5.1 with NetBeans C/C++ Development Pack version 5.5.1
installed. Sun Studio looks for a valid NetBeans IDE installation in the following order:
    1) Location specified with --netbeanshome command line option
    2) At /opt/netbeans-5.5.1 location, if exists
    3) At /opt/SUNWspro/../netbeans-5.5.1 location, if exists
    4) At /opt/SUNWspro/../../netbeans-5.5.1 location, if exists
Please run the System Preparation Tool (prepare_system), if available, to set up your environment.
    Any help!?

Did you install NetBeans separately or let Sun Studio installer do it? The latter usually results in working configuration.
I think that NetBeans installation simply doesn't have c++ pack; you can install one following usual NetBeans modules installation path and then re-try starting Sun Studio.
Another option is to uninstall NetBeans and re-install Sun Studio using its installer, which should set up NetBeans properly.

  • Sun Studio 11 with Rational ClearCase (for its VCS)

I'm trying to use Sun Studio 11 with Rational ClearCase.
IMHO, it is possible to use ClearCase in it as a VCS,
because an error message in Sun Studio 11 indicated http://vcsgeneric.netbeans.org/profile/ to add external VCS support.
    Then, my questions are...
    1. Is it possible to use Rational ClearCase for the VCS?
    2. If it is possible, which module do I have to get from the site
    (http://vcsgeneric.netbeans.org/profiles/)?
    3. How to Install it into Sun Studio 11?
    Thanks in advance.

First of all - Sun Studio IDE is shipped without Clear Case support,
and there is no official way to add this feature. Technically it is possible
to add a plugin module, compatible with NetBeans 3.5, which will
provide Clear Case support, but it is not a supported configuration.
So it is not recommended to experiment with a Sun Studio installation,
which is used in real job. The answers below are mostly my guess,
because we did not try Sun Studio with Clear Case.
    1. Is it possible to use Rational ClearCase
for the VCS?Yes, I think there is a ClearCase plugin module for Netbeans 3.5:
    http://vcsgeneric.netbeans.org/profiles/index.html
    2. If it is possible, which module do I have to get
    from the site
    (http://vcsgeneric.netbeans.org/profiles/)?
    I think this one:
    http://vcsgeneric.netbeans.org/files/documents/67/117/clearcase-profile.nbm
. How to Install it into Sun Studio 11?You have to be able to write to the installation tree, which means you
have to be root, or you have to change access modes. This module
will be installed in /opt/netbeans/3.5V11/ directory, so this directory
and its subdirectories should be writable for you. You have to start
Netbeans using script /opt/netbeans/3.5V11/ bin/runide.sh, and
upgrade it with the new plugin module. I can provide more details,
but I want to repeat again, that this is unsupported configuration,
so if you want to try it on your own system as an experiment -
let me know, I'll describe the process in details.
    Sorry about this problem.
    Thanks,
    Nik

  • Sun Studio in ClearCase?

    Hello all,
we want to import the Sun Studio 8 C++ distribution
into ClearCase, in order to be able versionize it.
I don't know if this is practical, but is it possible at
    all?
In general, is Sun Studio, once installed in /opt
relocatable to, lets say /vobs/compilers just
by a 'cp -rp'? What happens with subsequent
    patches? Can /opt/SUNWspro be deinstalled
    afterwards?
    Any comments/experiences?

In general, is Sun Studio, once installed in /opt
relocatable to, lets say /vobs/compilers just
by a 'cp -rp'? Sun Studio is installed via packages, which go into a defined location, recorded in the package database on the computer. Patches are tied to the installation location. If you move an installation, it will not match the package database, and patching will probably be difficult or impossible.
You can install Sun Studio where ever you want. If you want to move it to another directory on the same computer, you should completely uninstall it, then reinstall in the new location.
Package discipline is sometimes a pain in the neck, but it is the mechanism that ensures a known and consistent state for an installation and its patches.
    Here is a possible workaround.
Create a tarball of an existing Sun Studio installation. You can un-tar into some other location -- let's call it SS8. You can run Studio from SS8. You cannot patch the installation in SS8. You can patch the original installation, then create a new tarball for copying to SS8. (Patches sometimes have non-obvious effects, so create a complete tarball instead of just copying the files you think have changed.)
A Sun Studio installation includes quite a number of symbolic links. The symbolic links are either relative, or point into fixed system directories like /usr/lib. Do not use tar's "h" option that follows symbolic links. You need to preserve the links in the new location.
For the same reason, you should not use cp to copy an installation. You will get copies of files that should be symbolic links.
