The excessive waits on log file parallel write and the related client wait of log file sync may be due to insufficient CPU availability, and may not point at an actual redo log size problem or a problem with the disk speed where the redo is written to disk, especially if there are 3 Oracle instances on the server with a single CPU.
Paraphrased from "Optimizing Oracle Performance":
The log file sync wait event is one of the first events to show increased latencies due to the time a process spends waiting in a CPU wait queue while processing excessive logical IOs.
Kevin Closson wrote a couple blog entries that examined the potential problems of insufficient CPU capacity and its effects on log file parallel write when writing to solid state disks, and even when writing redo was explicitly disabled:

"Once LGWR loses his CPU it may be quite some time until he gets it back. Fix the CPU problem, and the other significant waits may decrease.

yingkuan's suggestion to look at the SQL statement that performs the 4,365,564 logical IOs, consumes 186.03 CPU seconds, and has an execution time of 225.06 seconds, is likely a very good starting point. You might also want to check the value of the SESSION_CACHED_CURSORS parameter to see if it needs to be adjusted.

Gordon, it looks like its been a while since you made this post. Not sure how valid it is now...   I am particularly interested in the LigatureLevel.NONE value. It seems that it is no longer supported.
How do I turn of ligatures in the font rendering?
My flex project involves trying to match the font rendering of Apache's Batik rendering of SVG and ligatures have been turned off in that codebase. Is there any way (even roundabout) to turn ligatures off in flash?

Please do not jump to conclusions and make assumptions here like 'when will people finally get it??'. I never said it was a benchmark. I have also seen many examples of where it's results do not go with conventional performance. I have a Radeon 9000 that goes faster on glxgears than a Geforce FX 5600 running Nouveau. What I know is that on this individual system, from prior experience over many years when 3D acceleration is working glxgears gets between 300 and 400 fps. Yes, a Quake 3 timedemo (I have these numbers too and they very much correlate to glxgears performance for this system given just how slow it is) would be a benchmark but when it runs less than 0.1fps and even the 2D rendering means that navigating the menu is impossible, there just isn't the time to find out. Hence if playing around with drivers on this system I would use glxgears to check that 3D acceleration is working but not to benchmark. Glxinfo does not give you all this evidence.
But to clarify, I wouldn't use glxgears as a benchmark, benchmarking is different and I do a lot of that too.

With TLF 571 checked in we can now revert the MXML 2009 changes for how the id language attribute is processed.
An unqualified id property will no longer be seen as a setter for a normal public, writable, non-static "id" property - which matches Flex 3 behavior.
As in earlier versions of Flex, the mechanism to retain MXML id attribute information at runtime is to implement mx.core.IMXMLObject. The compiler will generate a call to the intialized() method and pass in the id information.
Note: One exception to this rule seems to be UIComponent which instead get id attribute information via mx.core.IDeferredInstantiationUIComponent (although there seems to be a TODO in the codebase to remove this mechanism and thus should not be relied on by third parties).

Adding a "loop" property to VideoElement/VideoPlayer. This is a true/false value and will determine whether the video loops or not.
Also changing VideoElement to be a UIComponent, rather than a GraphicElement. This gives VideoElement all of the lifecycle events, which are useful to a full-fledged component. The name/packaging will probably change in a future checkin as the OSMF names get settled upon.

Added better baseline support for ConstraintLayout. ConstraintRow's now have a baseline property. It can either be a number or of the form "maxAscent:x". In the first case, it will position elements at that y-pixel value in the row based on their baseline position. Otherwise, it first aligns elements to the maximum baseline position of the elements in the row, and then, positions elements based on the pixel value provided. This support allows elements with different baselinePositions to be aligned more easily.

I have added an alpha property to BitmapFill. Since graphics.beginBitmapFill doesn?\226?\128?\153t have an alpha parameter, I have to clone the bitmapData source and apply to it a colorTransform (which contains the alphaMultipler).
If the source image doesn't support an alpha channel (ex. JPEG), then I need to copy the source into a new bitmapData object that supports transparency. This occurs one time in the source setter.
If the alpha or source has changed, then I need to copy the source into a new bitmapData. The reason is that using the BitmapData.colorTransform function is cumulative. Once I've applied an alphaMultiplier to it, there is no way to restore the alpha. I've optimized the code a bit to only copy the bitmapData if needed. For example, if we have already copied the data to add the transparent pixel border (to prevent the streaking effect on a non-repeating fill), then we forgo the copying.
