Swap size limitations / default rules
I've been playing with software raid to speed up my hd performance.
I currently have 4 x 160 gig hd's (2 x sata & 2 x pata).
I got my 4'th hd today, so I did a clean install (got too much spare time) and for some reason decided to set my swap to 1gig on each drive witch should be 4gig total (just to be sure).
However, after getting my system up and running, checking with gnome-system-monitor & top, I see only 2gig of swap space is in use.
I did a quick search here on the forum & google, and it seems that by default swap is 2 x ram, I got 1gig ram so it add's up.
I checked :
[root@Cray loke]# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid5] [multipath] [raid6] [raid10]
md1 : active raid0 sdb2[0] sda2[1] hdb2[2] hda2[3]
3919360 blocks 64k chunks
md2 : active raid0 sdb3[0] sda3[1] hdb3[2] hda3[3]
15229184 blocks 64k chunks
md3 : active raid0 sdb4[0] sda4[1] hdb4[2] hda4[3]
605577792 blocks 64k chunks
md0 : active raid1 sdb1[0] sda1[1] hdb1[2] hda1[3]
96256 blocks [4/4] [UUUU]
unused devices: <none>
And did a speed test comparing /dev/md/1 (swap) & /dev/md2 (/)
[root@Cray loke]# hdparm -t /dev/md/1
/dev/md/1:
Timing buffered disk reads: 366 MB in 3.01 seconds = 121.61 MB/sec
[root@Cray loke]# hdparm -t /dev/md/2
/dev/md/2:
Timing buffered disk reads: 348 MB in 3.02 seconds = 115.40 MB/sec
Looking at the speed, the swap file is using 4 drives but only 2gig of the 4 available, I doubt I ever going to use all the swap space, but since its already there and I'm not gonna add more hd's anytime soon, why not have it all available .
So my question is, where do I alter / force the swap size to go byond 2gig or 2 x ram?
Thanks.
kth5 wrote:i think that in this case the oh so great 32bit addressspace limitation comes into effect.
after this the total can only be 4gig of memory which is presented by swap and physical memory together. so if you have 2gigs physical memory in your machine that's it. no way to have another 4gig swap. anyway, as you only have one it might be the md setup or swapfs limit after all, then i have no idea.
you may want to look into highmem support etc. in the kernel, but i actually doubt that it'll help much.
I too would say that this could be the result of a 32bit cpu and addressing range. I have done some research on a similar subject, how to get 4GB of physical RAM working under various windows OS-s, and found out that most motherboards don't even have the address space for reaching those 4 GB. In other words, you may have 4x1GB sticks in your mobo and it can even "officialy" support 4GB ram, but you would get 3,3 or 3,5 if you're lucky, because the rest of the address space is used for addressing various I/O devices, like usb, firewire, ata/sata, pci bus, and so on. Things get more complicated from there on, since better motherboards can have the last GB moved up into "5th" GB address space so you don't "loose" it.
And the reason for me writing this is to also suggest enabling highmem support in the kernel.

Oracle (Apache) HTTP Server - Default Header Size limitation
Does the Oracle HTTP Server have a http header size limitation? If so, what is the maximum size allowed for http headers? Can it be changed, and how?
Which version of Apache shipped with AS 9.0.4? I've been trying to find the answer to my questions in the Apache 1.3 documentation, but I'm not having any luck.
Let me explain my problem. We're using Vintela's Single Sign-On library for authentication in our java applications. Recently we ran into a problem where a user was not being granted access to the application. Much debugging occured, eventually we had to open a trouble ticket with Vintela. They suggested it might be a http header size limitation and to check the configuration for the web cache and apache. We easily found the configuration options for the web cache, but are still looking for apache.
We've by-passed the web cache and accessed the HTTP server directly and we are still experiancing the same problem.
To keep this message short and concise, I've omitted most of our troubleshooting, we're pretty sure the problem is related to a HTTP header size limitation. One trick I saw the Oracle guys do is telnet to the httpd port and manually type in an HTTP request.
Perhaps ask the Vintela people for a test string that you can paste in a telnet window to test if the server handles it correctly.
Also, you can put Apache in a sort of debug mode as well using the AS Console. I can't remember, but I think this may show the entire http request including the headers. -

Good Day...
The output gives the information that Size limit set for Receive and Send is 100 mb, but setting could have changed. So you can follow the below steps to resolve the issue.
There are basically three places where you can configure default message size limits on Exchange:
Organization transport settings
Send/receive connector settings
User mailbox settings.
To check your server’s current limit you can open Exchange Management Shell
Try the below commands to check the Message quota size limit
get-transportconfig | ft maxsendsize, maxreceivesize
get-receiveconnector | ft name, maxmessagesize
get-sendconnector | ft name, maxmessagesize
get-mailbox Administrator |ft Name, Maxsendsize, maxreceivesize
To change the above size limits based on your requirement.
Set-TransportConfig -MaxSendSize 200MB -MaxReceiveSize 500MB (Size is based on your requirement)
Attachment size limit
To set up the rule you can use the below PowerShell cmdlet, as the method is quite simple
New-TransportRule -Name LargeAttach -AttachmentSizeOver 20MB -RejectMessageReasonText "Message attachment size over 20MB - email rejected."

Increasing Email Size Limits for some users
Hi All,
For some users (management) i needed to arrange that they are able to send bigger files then the default 10MB limit to each other.
I used this procedure to do so,
https://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/exchange/increasing-email-size-limits-for-your-high-profile-users-in-exchange-2010/
In a nutshell:
Set Global Transport Org. Config to 200MB
Set Transport Send and Receive connector to 200MB
Created a Distribution group adding the MT members and me (for testing)
Created a transport Rule for the 10MB limit for all users and exception for the distribution group
(Believe me, i am not happy with the 200MB size limit)
All seems to work but i have one issue that i cannot tackel or maybe it is by design.
-Managemant can also send big files to all
users who do not have this privelige, this is not someting i want, sending 100MB+ attachments to over 150 users.
Is this by design or do i mis something?
Thanks,
RonHi RonGielgens,
Attachment size in exchange has to be set on
Global settings
Connectors (send and receive connectors)
Mailbox
The global settings will affect all the others. of course connectors will affect specific servers and mailbox one user. You have to set the global to the absolute max size you want to allow in your organization.
after you do this you will need either to set the 10MB on each mailbox
Get-Mailbox | Set-Mailbox -MaxSendSize 10MB -MaxReceiveSize 10MB
Then change the limit on specific mailbox
or another way is to create a transport rule that will reject the email if the attachment size it > 10MB unless the sender/recipient is the required user or group.
so basically create 2 transport rules
1. reject messages sent to anyone with attachment > 10mb unless the recipient is userX
2. reject messages sent from anyone with attachment > 10mb unless the sender is userX
Normal case it should not allow.
Thanks, MAS

Increasing swap size??
Hello all,
I am trying to get a very old G3 up and running with 10.3 and I am wondering, is there a way to increase the default swap size? If I use the default it won't run very well so I am wondering if I can compensate with loading up on swap.Lovell,
First, don't compare the performance of the Beige with OSX to your newer Macs; it's at least nine years old. My upgraded Beige G3 felt very swift with OSX until I got a G4 MDD at works.
Hardware config is everything for the Beige G3 series. T'is a wonderful yet strange beast that came in three form factors, three logic board ROM revisions, and with both SCSI and ATA hard drives. All those affect getting OSX installed and running with acceptable results. If you can repost the question in the Beige G3 forums here, I believe you will get focused help from people very familiar with the hardware issues this machine presents. Make sure you post as much about your hardware config as possible, especially case form factor (desktop, minitower, or all-in-one), processor speed, RAM installed, hard drive size and type, etc. Once that forum knows your hardware issues, they can walk you through the process.
Kappy is right: one of the hardware limitation of the Beige G3 ROM means OSX likes as much RAM as you can throw at it. Effective max RAM is 768MB regardless of what several outdated tech documents say. -

Tommaso cereghettiHi Pascal,
I noticed that sapinst is using /oracle, but I didn't selected the DB path yet. Could that be the error? Where is the system reading this path from?

DLP Attachment Scanning - Size Limitations
Is it documented anywhere what the attachment file size limitations are for DLP scanning? In the ESA Configuration documentation I read:
"To scan attachments, the content scanning engine extracts the attachment for the RSA Email DLP scanning engine to scan."
Can you identify what scanning engine is referenced by "content scanning engine" and what is the maximum attachment size it can process? Also are those settings modifiable and some indcation of performance impact if they are increased to a maximum of 50 MB per attachment?
I know you can make some modifications in the DLP policy, however it is our desire to DLP scan every document sent up to our allowable maximum email size.
If large attachments cannot be scanned we may be forced to reduce our maximum message/attachment file size.
We are currently using Async O/S 7.5.1-102 and will be moving to 7.6.0 when it comes GA.Hello David,
The content scanning engine in reference is the same AsyncOS scanning engine responsible or Message and Content Filter scanning. The maximum size of attachment to scan for this scanning engine is controlled by your 'scanconfig' setttings, as configured in the IronPort CLI. The default 'maximum size of attachment to scan' is 5MB.
IronPort1.example.com>scanconfig
There are currently 6 attachment type mappings configured to be SKIPPED.
Choose the operation you want to perform:
- NEW - Add a new entry.
- DELETE - Remove an entry.
- SETUP - Configure scanning behavior.
- IMPORT - Load mappings from a file.
- EXPORT - Save mappings to a file.
- PRINT - Display the list.
- CLEAR - Remove all entries.
- SMIME - Configure S/MIME unpacking.
[]> setup
1. Scan only attachments with MIME types or fingerprints in the list.
2. Skip attachments with MIME types or fingerprints in the list.
Choose one:
[2]>
Enter the maximum depth of attachment recursion to scan:
[5]>
Enter the maximum size of attachment to scan:
[5242880]>
<...>
Any message that is larger than this limit will be skipped by the scanning engine. This would mean that pertinent DLP policys and filters would not match that same message. Naturally, allowing larger messages to be scanned will result in performance risks, as more system resources would be required to complete the content scanning.

Swap size and / space from Oracle Linux VM Template
Hi,
I created few VMs with OVM_OL5U8_x86_64_PVM.ova.
However, root file system is 10GB and swap is 2GB even I created 50GB virtual disk for VM system.
I can't change these fixed size.
Can I increase this from template?
I create additional virtual disk and add to VM to use bigger swap(using OS command) but just want to implement default system virtual disk provides bigger than 10GB root filesystem and bigger swap size.
Thanks,
JasonI tried exactly same with another disk but got same error please find the screen shots.

How do I change the default ruler style settings
I'm very frustrated with the lack of margins in the default ruler settings in cocoa apps. I would MUCH rather have the ability to set my defualt ruler settings including margins, font, size, etc. rather than reset them every time I create a new document. Is this possible? How?
Thanks so much.
Varen"Cocoa apps" is too broad a category - so the answer to that is "no". There's no system-wide setting for document formatting.
But you may be able to do it for individual apps if you tell us which ones you are using. And even if there is no way to set a preference for a particular app, in general you can create a blank document with the formatting that you want, save it someplace convenient, then in the Finder right-click it, choose "Get Info" and check the "Stationary Pad" option. Then whenever you double-click that document, you'll get a new document with those same settings.
That works with TextEdit, but you need to type a little bit of text for the new margins to stick (for some reason the margins reset to 0 if you leave the document blank). -
Web.Show_Document - Is there a file size limitation?
It appears that Web.Show_Document has a problem displaying large .pdfs.
Example: A .pdf size of *2505 KB* would not display, however I compressed the .pdf to *1172 KB* and the report displayed using web.show_document successfully.
I am displaying the .pdf in an Oracle forms using web.show_document. The user presses a button (View Report) and it displays the report. Except, now it is not displaying reports close to 2000 KB in size.
The error says **"Exhausted Resultset"**
Is there a file size limitation with web.show_document?
Environment Background:
Forms [32 Bit] Version 9.0.4.1.0 (Production)
Oracle Toolkit Version 9.0.4.1.0 (Production)
PL/SQL Version 9.0.1.5.1 (Production)
Report Builder 9.0.4.1.0
ORACLE Server Release 9.0.1.5.1
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit ProductionAs already mentioned, WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT has nothing to do with file size. This command simply sends a url to the system's default browser. There is no Oracle magic here.
To the problem, you said:...The error says **"Exhausted Resultset"**Where are you seeing this message?
Is Forms generating this message?
Is this a custom message?
Is this the complete message text?
Is there an error number?
This does not appear to be a Forms generated error message.
I would suggest your store a large file in the same location as where your reports are located. The file should be of the same format (i.e. pdf). Open a browser and manually enter the necessary url to retrieve the content. I suspect the same problem would reproduce IF you believe the problem only occurs when the form calls WEB.SHOW. If it does reproduce then you have at least simplified the problem to a client browser requesting a document from a server. -
Activesync message size limits
I am running Exchange 2007 and I understand that the default size limits for activesync is 10MB. I also understand that you can increase the message size limits. What I am trying to find ot is if there is a limit or ceiling for increasing the limit? If
there is no limit what is best practice?Best practice is to leave them alone unless you have a compelling reason not to.

Report file size limitation when printing?
Does anyone know of a file size limitation when printing a .NET run Crystal report? We run a browser app, which opens a new browser when a report is printed. That works fine. When we PRINT, the ActiveX print dialog box appears. If the report is large (> 40 pages or so) it crashes our entire application. It works ok if we export to PDF then print, but I am trying to get to the bottom of why it is crashing.
Hello,
What version of Cr and .NET?
Does your printer have limited memory?
Is it local printer?
Have you tried installing the latest Drivers for it?
What Browser are you using and have you tried any other?
40 pages not much local memory so it shouldn't be a problem.
Create a new Printer and select File rather than port or LPT as the destination to see if it's a physical printer or network issue.
Try a different printer altogether also.
Also refer to Rule of Engagement posting before submitting your question so you provide as much info first.
Thank you

Upload File size limitation in AIR ???
Is there any upload file size limitation in air application ? Can any one post me the related articles on AIR application Multiple file upload ??
Regards,
Rahul.Hi Rahul, i dont understand completly your question, but i was have a similar situation some years ago.
The limitation is not by AIR, all local servers(wampp, xampp, etc) are limited in the command UPLOAD_FILES.
This have by default 3 or 5 mb by each file to can be uploaded, only you have to do is change the default value in php.ini file to this line
"upload_max_filesize".
I hope this will help you -
Please tell me if there is a size limitation for ResultSet
Hi,
I have a sql select * from....and the following code. If I limit the rows from the query results(rows 1 to 500), there is no problem. But if I get all the query results once , the ResultSet line get error message OutOfMemoryError. (I have large html infor. in the query result).
So my question is if there is a size limitation for ResultSet? Do I have to break down the query results?
PreparedStatement st = conn.prepareStatement(sql.toString());
ResultSet rs = st.executeQuery();Thanks in advance,
KatieHi,
Thanks for the link, but I didn't see any answers for
my question.....my question is if there is a way that
ResultSet hold all the query results?
Thanks again,
KatieDid you read this part:
" Result Set Limitations and Downgrade Rules
Some types of result sets are not feasible for certain kinds of queries. If you specify an unfeasible result set type or concurrency type for the query you execute, the JDBC driver follows a set of rules to determine the best feasible types to use instead.
The actual result set type and concurrency type are determined when the statement is executed, with the driver issuing a SQLWarning on the statement object if the desired result set type or concurrency type is not feasible. The SQLWarning object will contain the reason why the requested type was not feasible. Check for warnings to verify whether you received the type of result set that you requested, or call the methods described in "Verifying Result Set Type and Concurrency Type".
