SWC files stop working in large project

Hi,
My company is working on a casual game which is entirely made in Flash. To speed up development/compile time we split some of it up into SWC files, for example dialog controls, cutscenes, particle effects are all controlled via SWC files.
This was working great up until a few days ago, we have been working on this project for about 8 months with no major problems. However, now all of a sudden, when we compile the game, none of the SWC files work. The game compiles and runs ok, but nothing from the SWC files are working.
The strange thing is that if we remove one of the SWC files from the folder (the game reads all the SWC files from one folder) then the game will work. Even if you remove a SWC which isnt immediately used by the game it will still work. It's almost as if there is some limit to how many SWC files you can have loaded. (There are only 10 SWC files in the folder we are loading from).
So anyone else heard of this problem? or can suggest a fix?

I did some reasearch and this problem might be something to do with the Java heap size being too low when it tries to compile. Lots of people seem to have posted similar problems. Is it possible to increase the size of the Java Heap for flash?
Interestingly, I went to my actionscript settings in the "library path" section and I removed "textlayout.swc" which obviously isnt anything to do with our game and we dont use it- the game then compiles and the SWC files work. So it definately seems like something is running out of memory when you include too many SWC files or files which are too large.

I have solved this problem now- it was indeed an issue with Java running out of heap space. If anyone else has this problem, you can change the heap size in:
C:\Users\(user)\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash CS5\en_US\Configuration\ActionScript 3.0\jvm.ini
change -Xmx128m to -Xmx256m
I guess I kind of answered my own question there...

I think I have a similar problem, but I'm creating a long slide show, perhaps 500 images at 72 frames each, and have seemingly hit a wall at around 16,000 frames, about halfway through. I can still place images but can't control their position which remains locked at 0.0, 0.0. I can go back down the line and delete and bring in a new image without a problem. Also, just before this problem appeared, the bars indicating the last keyframe and additional frames appeared to be cut off, like a lopped off branch. I'm a designer with minimal html experience. The code solution for the Java heap meant nothing to me. Any help?

My cells do contain values so that's no problem. It's a very simple setup where I have 2x6 cells with a couple of parameters that are to be used by all my connections in the workbook.
Using vb code to update the "forgotten" parameters inside the connections was something I also was thinking could be a solution. Just felt it would be a shame when the functionality for what I'm trying to do cleary has been built
in to excel in a very simple way through the UI.
Before I go down the vb route I'm gonna see if I can find more info about any fixes for this bug in excel, maybe a hot patch or something like that. (I can't speak vb so building such a thing is going to take a while for me as I have to take bits
and pieces I find around the web to get stuff working) :)

Adobe Media Encoder stopped working in this project, works in others

Adobe Media Encoder just stopped working in my current project (in PPRO CS3). I'd output several MPEG2-DVD and Windows Media Files. Then I went to make one more MPEG2-DVD file, and when I clicked OK in AME, nothing happened. It should open a window to select where I want to put the file, and a few more options. No crash, no freeze, no error messages..and no output.
None of the AME formats work (WMF, Quicktime, etc). But other exports do work. I made my MPEG2-DVD file using Export to Encore.
I opened another project I'm working on, and AME does work in that project.
Back to my current project, and it still doesn't work.
I've rebooted, and uninstalled-reinstalled PP CS3.
Anyone fixed this? Thanks!

After some more playing, I discovered that the other sequences in this project do still export using AME. So I made a new sequence, copied all the media from the problem sequence into the new one, and it exports OK. I lose fairly extensive Encore chapter marking, but that's a minor problem. No way to "cut and paste" chapter markers, I don't suppose?
For curiosity value, if I make a duplicate of the problem sequence, all the media in the duplicate sequence has a red bar (unrendered) except for the parts that have already been rendered, which have a green bar. This is straight transferred DVCam media and shouldn't need rendering. If I add some new video to the sequence, it gets a red bar too. Bizarre. Oh, and it won't export.
I tried a few other tricks with the original problem sequence: delete all media, and replace with one new short clip; delete the chapter markers; shorten the work area bar to just a few seconds and try to export "work area only"; turn off tracks; deselect either audio or video in AME... nothing worked to make this sequence export.
I also tried making a whole new project, and importing this one into it. Nothing changes - the problem sequence still wont' export, a copy of it leaves all media "unrendered..." exact same trouble as the original project. But it was while playing with this new project that I discovered that my other sequences did export, leading me back to the original project. That should have been the first or second thing I checked. Brain-dead Sunday.
Conclusion: something corrupt in the sequence, but darned if I can figure out what. Not the media. Not the chapter markers. There's code in the sequence itself, and I guess that must be it.

Premier 13 stops working when existing project is loaded (after uninstalling Premier 9 where the project started)

I started a project using Premier 9. Then I upgraded to 13, edited and saved my existing project several times successfully. Decided that it appeared 13 was working well and I no longer needed 9 and 11 (both Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements) so I uninstalled them using the Control Panel app. Now 13 stops working when I try to load my project.
I have since uninstalled/re-installed/rebooted everything in various sequences many many times with no luck. I even purchased and installed another copy of 9 (since the original was a download and I could not find my notes & serial numbers)! The 9 install encountered a problem "an installation process has encountered an error while installing", it stopped, then rolled the install back so I have nothing for 9.

Probably good idea to recreate the version 9 project in version 13. Investment of time in troubleshooting version 9 is questionable as you say.
At this point, I would leave Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 installed, just do not open it.
When you are between Premiere Elements 13 projects and you want to get rid of Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1,
consider
1. Deactivate the program from an opened project's Help Menu/Deactivate...close out of the program.
2. Uninstall the program the usual Control Panel way
3. Do a free ccleaner run through (regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts) to get rid of leftovers from incomplete installs or uninstalls.

Note: Deactivation is not the same as uninstall.
Critical - after a project is saved closed, never move, delete, or rename files/folders that were imported into the project after the project's save close.
When you import files into a project, all you get are copies of the originals. But, those copies need to trace back to the originals in the location where
they were when they were first imported into the project. More on that later as indicated.
Please let me know if any questions or clarification needed on any of the above. Are there any Elements Organizer consideration in any of this?
If so, I would convert the Elements Organizer 9 catalog in Elements Organizer 13 before uninstalling Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1.

I'm working on some MOV files in CS4 and they will randomly stop working; my image is lost. Sometimes it does this when exporting as well; it will, to my suprise, pick clips and make them a blank screen. Please help!

Backing Files Stop Working For No Apparent Reason. Help?

I have a portal application accessing a remote WSRP PageFlow portlet. The remote portlet populates a backing file and the producer application reads the data. It was working fine and then it stopped working for no apparent reason. The data was simply null, no errors or warnings. I put traces in the backing file and verified that the life-cycle methods were indeed being called and that data was there, and yes, both were indeed the case. Data is being set on the SimpleStateHolder and it's just not transferring over to the producer side.
In order to rule out environmental issues, I've done this on multiple machines. Also, I started a whole new project, got backing file setup, verified that it worked, started developing with it and one time I deployed and it was broken again. I rolled out the changes I had just made but it didn't matter. The earlier code still failed to work although it had been working moments earlier.
So, any ideas? Has anybody else encountered backing file issues like this and if so do you have any suggestions on debugging or fixing them?

RoboHelp 9 Stops Working when Opening Projects

Hi,
I'm having a massive problem with RoboHelp 9.0.2. It "stops working" whenever I try to open, convert, or create a new project. It fails 100% of the time - with the sample projects, our projects, and new projects. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit on a Dell Lattitude E6400 with 2.66GHz processor and 4GB memory.
RoboHelp 8.0.2 ran fine on this system.
At first, I thought Win7 SP1 might be the culprit, as I was the only one in the dept. who had upgraded. But when the entire department upgraded to SP1 a week later, nobody suffered the same problem.
I've tried the ususal techniques such deleting the CPB file, moving projects to the "My RoboHelp projects" folder, etc. I tried to use RH9 in Windows Diagnostic Startup mode - same result.
The Visual Studio Just-in-Time Debugger gave this error, "An unhandled win32.exception occurred in RoboHTML.exe [6596]"
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or, what additional information can I provide?

Does RH always crash with the unhandled exception or does it just freeze and you have to kill it using task manager? I'm thinking if it only freezes, maybe your dialog boxes fell off the screen and you can use the following process to get them back.
1. Perform an action that will freeze RH, like File > Open or Insert > Image.
2. Press Alt, then spacebar, then M.
3. Press any arrow key.
4. Waggle the mouse. The missing dialog box should snap to the cursor.
5. Click to drop the dialog box where you want it.

Applescript create folder from filename and move file stopped working

For a while I've used this script but after upgrade and a new machine it stopped working.
I have Mac OS 10.8.5.
This is what I have.

I'd like to be able to create a new folder for each "group of files" (new folder 111111, new folder 222222) and move the appropriate files into each of them.
The filenames are always built by 6 digits underscore and 2 digits. Can be whatever filetype. (123456_01.jpg)

RAW / CR2 files stopped working? ie RAW support seems to be bust

I've just uploaded a bunch of new pictures from my Canon EOS 5D Mark II in RAW format and they are not being recognised. Aperture, Preview or PS 3 don't recognise them. Aperture gives me a dotted line box, Preview does nothing and PS3 just tells me it's an unsupported file format.
Even my old RAW has stopped opening (350D and 40D).
Everything worked fine a few days ago. All I have done to my system is regular Software Updates, but I note that RAW support 2.7 was installed a few days ago - could that have corrupted things somehow?
Has anyone else had problems since installing 2.7?
Any ideas how to fix this?
As a note, I can open these files using the Canon software that came with the camera (which I installed back in the dark ages and never use).

Nope. I shot in 'regular' RAW. I have a Macbook Pro too (also with the 2.7 update) and that can see the files fine, so it's obviously something wrong with my config/install. The problem is I can't see how to address the problem. One thing I have noticed is that the Mac with the problem thinks the file kind is "Canon Camera Raw File" and the Mac that is working fine things that the file is a "Canon CR2 raw image". I've no idea how the file associations work or how I can chose how the OS sees the images. On both Macs the file is identical - including the file name and extension.

I really want to shout this solution from the rooftops, because try Googling the solution sometime. I did. I failed. You will too. Hopefully if I use some more 18-point bold font, Google will index it faster, because that's the way it works right?
I actually had no idea that Flash Player has a folder in Windows\system32 at all, and I definitely had no idea that this file existed. I am guessing some stinking app I installed decided I needed AVHardwareDisable set to 1 for some reason (effers). I found out about the location by just lazily searching through the windows registry for "Flash Player" and eventually saw it pointing to that directory. A little more poking around and I found this file.
Those of you who actively support this forum: please keep this in the back of your mind, next time someone has audio/video input problems with Flash Player. I've found an awful lot of forum posts from people with cameras not working, and I bet a good portion of them need this fix. Reinstalling Flash Player will not fix it. Here's hoping the solution comes up in Google for the next unlucky soul.

Submit buttons stop working with large textarea

I am using a PL/SQL portlet to display a form that has a large
text box, using <TEXTAREA></TEXTAREA>, and two submit buttons,
one for cancel and one for save. The database can accept 2000
characters but when I fill the text box up beyond around 1400
characters the buttons stop working.
You just click away as if no code is behind them. Delete some
text and they work again! The sizes that cause this seem to vary.
If it helps I can paste the code in here, but didn't want to yet
as it will clutter this message.

Got there in the end, but not sure if this is a bug or not so
here is the answer just in case someone else makes the same
mistake in the future:
I was using some java script that required a form to have the
name attribute set. I could not do this with HTP.FORMOPEN so
changed HTP.FORMOPEN(curl=>'x.y.z'); to HTP.P('<FORM
action="x.y.z">');
Now I thought these two commands were exactly the same and most
of the time they do seem to be, but the problem above goes away
if using formopen.

HELP! Suddenly Flash SWF files stopped working in pres!

I'm not sure what's causing the problem, but Flash files in my Keynote 08 presentation stopped working and I can't figure out what happened. Would it be because I upgraded to a more recent version of 10.5 or that I inadvertently moved the original Flash files somewhere else or another thing? Any advice?

I've got an external firewire drive with a bootable 10.5.1 partition, so I'm thinking I'll downgrade to 7.2. Your comment got me wondering if 7.2 will run on 10.5.1 or do I need 10.4?

I think the issue may be with the geocities web host, as they
do not allow uploading of .flv files. But I did make the flv files
into swf and could watch the video's that way. I am going to use a
different web host and try again.

The Maverick Calendar App-Alert Option-to Open a File-stops working after a few days

The Maverick Calendar App, Alert Option, to Open a File works for a few days, than stops. The Calendar alert still triggers, but the reference to launching the other file disappears. Has anyone found and solved this problem?
This Calendar, Open File Option, worked fine without error in 10.8 and earlier, but I was only given the option to launch an Apple Script.
