Swf does not play in IE

I have a client who wants his logo in flash.  I'm using swfobject to include the swf, but it does not play in IE8 unless I specify compatibility mode.
The site is here...

What am I missing?

I'd suggest you get rid of all the IE conditional statement stuff and only use the single <object>, IE will handle that just fine... with or without swfobject.
<object data="path_to_file/file.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="insert_width_of_movie" height="insert_height_of_movie">
            <param name="movie" value="path_to_file/file.swf">
            <param name="SomeOtherParam" value="ParamValue">
</object>
According to your DOCTYPE this validation service agrees. Validate your page here:

Notice what is says about the first (IE targeted) <object>.

  • Placed .swf does not play correctly

    I have placed a .swf on a page.  When exported to pdf the movie does not play correctly.  It plays correctly before being placed.  I used flash cs4 actionscript 3 to create the .swf.
    I have selected the highest level for pdf when exporting.

    ok!  I figured it out.  This is what is happening.  Apparently when you place a .swf in indesign and make a button on the page to show the movie when clicked and then export to pdf -- there is a time delay from the time you click on the button and the movie starts to play in a floating window.   Its just a few frames of 24 fps movie but that is enought for whatever gaget that reads the movie to miss the first few frames.
    So in effect any info in the first few frames is not read.   So i had a stop on the first frame that was not being read.  I put the stop on frame 7 and now it plays just like I had hoped.
    I hope this helps anybody else out that has had a similar problem.

  • SWF does not play after publish.... OS compatibility bug?

    I have embedded SWFs that will not play once the Presenter file is published.  They appear to be "frozen" on the first frame.
    Here's the setup:
    The SWFs are scripted in AS2 (not AS3)
    SWFs are built in Flash Pro CS5 and are published to Flash Player 9.
    They are not Captivate files.
    PowerPoint 2007 (12.0.6535.5002) SP2 MSO (12.6535.5002)
    Presenter 7.0.5 Build 7588
    Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    BUT, I can open the same file on another computer with this setup, and it publishes just fine.

    The only difference appears to be my OS.  Does anyone know of any bugs with Presenter in Windows 7?
    UPDATE:
    As I type this, literally, I got a notice that there's a Presenter 7.0.6 Update. So I went ahead and installed it on the Windows 7 box.  Republished the Presenter course, and wouldn't you know it... the SWFs are now playing!
    The patch says this: The Adobe® Presenter 7.0.6 update resolves Adobe Presenter's compatibility issues with PowerPoint 2010 and some important issues identified in Adobe Presenter 7.0.5 (Although the patch site doesn't bother providing us with a list of what those important issues are! Thanks Adobe, you rock.)
    --- Well, it fixes MY issue for Windows 7/Presenter 7/PowerPoint 2007 too.

    See the updated within the post. Installing the 7.0.6 patch was the fix.

  • Captivate 3/4 SWF does not play

    When I create a Captivate demo, whether it is in Cap3 or 4 and publish it (SWF, zip file, full screen, Flash 7) and send it to others on my team, many of them cannot open the file.  I have no idea why I can run it but they cannot.  After I loaded  IE 7   I was unable to get a SWF file to run either, but (don't know if this had anything to do with it) after I loaded the Sun Java applet I could run it again.
    I am certain these folks have Flash player loaded.
    This problem also goes to our customers who cannot play the file from an LMS or a RightNow database containing swf demos created in Captivate...our only solution is to publish to .exe but some customers are reticent to open this type of file.
    What else could be the problem?
    I looked in this Forum but could not find the answer.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi there
    It depends on how you are trying to do things. If you are sending only a raw SWF, it may not be properly associated in Windows so that Windows knows what to do with it when the user runs it.
    The looming question here is to ask if that's what you are doing. This is one of the few different reasons Captivate normally creates an HTML page when you publish output.

  • Swf does not play in web page

    In Dreamweaver I tested this flash movie by Previewing in
    Browser and it worked fine. But on the internet, nothing!
    Why?
    http://www.dittydaddys.com/test-flash.html
    Here's the embedded swf file
    http://www.dittydaddys.com/title01.swf

    Here's the code from the page:
    <script src="Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js"
    type="text/javascript"></script>
    And not only doesn't it play the swf, there's no reference to
    it at all on the web page.

  • SWF does not play in Dreamweaver

    For the record, I'm new to Dreamweaver and Flash, but not graphic design. I'm helping out a nonprofit group with their already existing website that requires changes for a conference they are hosting. The plan is to have the title of the conference slowly appear on the screen in a golden color. My idea to accomplish was the following:
    1. I imported a video into Flash of gold dust falling lightly and then more heavily (found at iStockPhoto, #13491985 if you want to take a look).
    2. On a new layer, the title of the conference was set up.
    3. Then I masked the text layer over the video.
    4. Tested the movie and it looks awesome! The text slowly fills up with the gold dust and the rest of the movie that is playing is hidden.
    5. Exported to SWF for import into Dreamweaver.
    PROBLEM:
    After placing the SWF file onto the home page in Dreamweaver, the SWF plays as a white box (which, incidentally is the color of the Flash stage). That's it, no gold dust and no text appears.
    I'm sure more details are necessary to help me out, so please ask. We are under a time crunch. I'm going to post this on the Flash Forum as well.
    Thanks!
    Sherri

    I would like to share the Flash and/or SWF file. Given that I'm new to the coding of these two software packages, I would imagine the solution is an easy one. Is there a way to post files to the forum? Maybe I can find a way to place it on the web somewhere for the file to be downloaded in hopes that someone from the forum could take a look. Any suggestions on how best to approach this? Thanks!

  • Skin plays fine but swf does not play at all...

    I have tried everything and now have simply exhausted my
    resources...
    Video plays fine in flash cs3 pro, but when I attempt to get
    it to play online (using the swfobject.js script), the skin plays
    (motion in the seek bar - incessant), but not the video.
    [Incidentally, the exact same thing happens when I use the
    video1.html file, for what it's worth].
    When I replace the video file with so_tester.swf, it plays
    properly. This tells me that the html (included below) is right,
    but that there is something wrong with the video itself. I tried
    Import To Stage, Import Video, and Import To Library, to no avail.
    I tried Publish, and Export Movie, to no avail. The flv was made by
    exporting from QuickTime. Could that be the problem?
    Uploaded to the server are: index.html (see below),
    video1.html (not sure if this is needed), video.swf, swfobject.js,
    expressinstall.swf, SkinOverAll.swf, and AC_RunActiveContent.js.
    I have spent countless hours trying to figure this out. If
    someone could please help, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Here is the entire html of the index page:
    <html xmlns="
    http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
    xml:lang="en" lang="en">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;

    <script type="text/javascript"
    src="swfobject.js"></script>
    <script src="AC_RunActiveContent.js"
    language="javascript"></script>
    <style type="text/css">
    body {
    background-color: #ffcc99;
    background-image: url('
    http://www.yoursite/pathToImage.jpg');
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-position: center;}
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div style="position: absolute; top: 50%;display:
    table-cell; vertical-align: middle; text-align: center; width:
    100%; padding: 0;">
    <div id="flashcontent">
    <strong>You need the latest Flash Player, and
    Javascript enabled to view this content.</strong>
    </div>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var so = new SWFObject("video1.swf", "myMovie", "NewWidth",
    "NewHeight", "8", "#ffcc99");
    so.useExpressInstall('expressinstall.swf');
    so.addParam('wmode','transparent');
    so.write("flashcontent");
    </script>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>

    Never mind. I figured it out. Used component inspector to
    solidify the source of the video, and that worked.

  • SWF Does not Play

    I am having a problem getting an inserted SWF to play.
    The movie plays fine in Flash 8.
    If I publish it from Flash 8 the HTML verion plays fine.
    If I export to SWF the generated SWF work fine.
    When I insert the SWF "Insert - Medi - Shockwave" in DW8 I
    can't get it to run in Dreamweaver (i.e. the play button turns the
    swf blank) and it won't play when published using FTP.
    Can anyone help.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your response - I tried this but didn't work
    either, however, it prompted me to try something else that did
    work.
    I had the SWF file in another (assets) directory which was
    referenced in DW8 - I changed this so that the SWF file was in the
    same directory as the html file and this worked. Why it didn't see
    the reference to the other directory I don't know?
    HI

  • Swf does not publish properly, plays fine in preview browser.

    I have scoured the internet looking for a solution, and I work with a team of professional Flash developers... Nobody can figure this out.
    I have a SWF I've been trying to publish to the web. It's inside an AP div tag. The swf plays fine in Preview mode. When I publish, however, the swf does not play in Safari at all, and will only play in Firefox upon hitting "refresh." After this, the swf will load and play just fine, UNLESS YOU CLEAR YOUR HISTORY, at which point the same problem appears: you see nothing but a black, blank box.
    "Yeah, I've heard that before, it's probably your javascript, blah blah blah..." Well, wait, just wait. The swf DOES load in both browsers. It just doesn't play. In order to get it to play, you have to right-click and select Play. I cannot, for the life of me, get it to just go ahead and play automatically when publishing.
    But the REAL riddle of all this is that the swfs USED to play just fine until a few days ago. I've done nothing different in my publishing. I have rebuilt the page from scratch to no avail. And I haven't found anything on the internet that addresses this question directly. I've had a couple of developers try and mess with the code for me, and THEY can't get it to work, either. I am pretty much begging for any possible help on this, so thanks in advance.
    I am a design-oriented user; I understand code only conceptually. If a code solution is the only solution, please be specific with where and how to implement the advice.
    The actual page in question is here:
    http://www.thecolodinproject.com/Media/Trailers/Trailer%2002_Lure/Trailer_Volume_02_Lure.h tml
    I will be checking back at this page often to look for replies; I hope someone can help. Thanks.

    Nope... As I said, the swf USED to run just fine, and still does in certain browsers. I haven't messed with the SWF at all since that time, so there isn't any logical reason it should be different now.

  • I applied a template to a page with SWFs and now that page does not play the SWFs. Why?

    I applied a template to a page with SWFs and now that page does not play the SWFs (just a blank area where the SWF should be). When I detach the template it will play the flash file. This site will eventually be updated via Adobe Contribute. And I just discovered that when applying a template to a page that uses HTML datasets (Master/Detail),it no longer reads the Master/detail regions and displays a blank. Any thoughts?
    [Moved to Dreamweaver forum by moderator]

    Firstly, you shouldn't really 'apply' a template to a page, you should create a child page by going to FILE>NEW>Page from Template.  Too many things can happen when applying a template the way you are doing it. eg:; editable and non-editable regions not matching up and being asked where to place these regions and in all likelihood, you end up with 2 or more of the same region.
    When a swf file is inserted into a page, a corresponding Scripts folder is written automatically is stored in the root of the site - it is also linked to in the head of the document. What I believe is happening is that when you apply a template to the page, the Template has no idea that there is a swf file on the page and is not aware of the correct link to the Scripts folder.  If you do a test and add the swf file to the template page itself, I bet that the links to the swf and the scripts folder are correct - because DW knows the correct path to the script file.   Hence the reason the page probably works when you detach it from a template.

  • FLV embedded in a SWF file, does not play in HTML file.

    Hi,
    I embedded a FLV file into flash movie clip, which on publish plays well on SWF file, but when the same is embedded in HTML, it does not play.
    What is it i'm missing ..
    Kindly help.
    Regards
    Shashi

    First, clarify this... are you embedding the .flv into the time line, as in:
    The .FLV file is imported on the  timeline of a movie clip.
    I embedded the .flv file,
    If you are in fact embedding the video, then there is no external video file... it's embedded into the timeline.
    If you are using the FLVPlayback component and an external vid file to display the video and the .swf when testing plays the video just fine but not on the HTML Web page:
    SWF plays external video file, as soon as I embed SWF in HTML, it no longer playes the external video file.
    then it's most likely a pathing problem.
    If you are placing the .swf on a Web page and the .swf and/or the .flv file are not both in the same folder as the Web page.... then the .swf should NOT work when you test it directly! That's because it should be pathed to play from the Web page and not the location of the .swf.
    For your review:
    Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
    You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
    Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
    In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
    So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.

  • Mp4 file does not play when exported to swf?

    I am putting together an interactive flash file that I have created in inDesign (CS4).
    I have had no problems creating and exporting links, buttons etc, but when it comes to embedding video I am experiencing trouble..I have a video which I have converted to mp4 H.264 format, and there appears to be no problems when uploading but when I export, the video does not play, and there is just a black box in its place with no controls. I have tried converting the file into various other formats, all with no luck. I hope you can tell me where the problem lies!
    Thank you

    Support for placed videos in exported SWF was introduced in InDesign CS5 so it does not suppose to work with CS4...

  • Video does not play: "Either windows doesn't support the item's file format......"

    Error message
    "Either windows doesn't support the item's file format or the content doesn't match the extension"
    I have both a Yoga and a Thinkpad 2. The Yoga is running Win 8 and the Thinkpad 2 has 8.1 Preview.
    I have copied multiple video files which are in either .avi or .mp4 containers.
    Some will play and some will not. I have installed all sorts of codec packages and players and the problem is the same. I though it might be a container problem so I tried to convert the file and the converter I used did not work.
    Searched the Internet and nothing really useful was found.
    Then I discovered a common thread. In the files that played, the codec information displayed when checking in properties and the ones that did not play, did not have the information.
    I have a video file on a USB flash drive and checked the properties and the information was there and I could play it from the flash drive. I copied it to my desktop and the file would not play. In checking, the codec information was not present.
    There seems to be an error in copying files where the requisite codec information is not being transferred.
    I have tried this multiple times and multiple permutations of transferring. Sometimes it will play from the desktop and will not play after transfer to the microSD card.
    Each time when it plays, the information is there and each time it does not play, the information is not there.

  • SWF Audio not playing in Captivate

    Hi everyone,
    I have created a button panel in Flash. The panel is a
    recreation of an A/V control system panel used in classrooms on
    campus. I am using a Captivate presentation to teach university
    professors how to use the panel, so they can use technology to aide
    teaching in classrooms.
    As soon as the swf loads (in flash player) a sound begins to
    play. You can then press the volume and mute buttons to increase,
    decrease, or mute the sound. The button panel works properly in
    flash player, however, when I import the swf into Captivate and
    preview or publish the slide, the sound does not play. The buttons
    depress, the lights change, but no sound is heard.
    1) What, if anything, am I doing wrong?
    2) What can I do to fix it?
    I've only been working with Captivate for a few months now,
    so this is my first real challenge. Any help you could offer would
    be great. Let me know if you need anymore information. I have
    exported the swf using flash 9,8,7, and 6 and that has not solved
    the problem.

    Okay, so here's the deal,
    I used a flash 6 version of the panel and exported project
    into a flash 7 version. when I play it, the sound still does not
    work, but here is where it gets funny:
    When I exported the project to include the html I also got a
    version of the project without the captivate skin. When I open
    that, the sound from the 16th slide (button panel) begins to play
    on the first slide and continues to play. when I get to the 16th
    slide and press the volume and mute buttons, they control the sound
    perfectly.
    So,
    1. How/why is the captivate skin killing my audio?
    2. What can I do about it?
    3. How do I get the audio to start playing when I enter the
    16th slide only?
