Swf object/embed issue in IE5.2 on Mac

I have embedded a flash swf file inside a table. It displays
and is positioned just fine across most platforms/browsers EXCEPT
for on a Mac in IE 5.2 and it's driving me insane. In IE5.2 on a
Mac, the flash movie plays OK, but it is not positioned inside the
table (which is inside of a layer). I've tried putting the swf
inside of a nested table but that didn't work. I'm at a loss. Can
anyone suggest a workaround?
Here
is my page
Any help is much appreciated,
christopher

All of the divs on your page are absolutely positioned. I
don't see a
single relatively positioned one. But be aware that one
doesn't just switch
absolute for relative without invoking an entirely new layout
model. It's
not like a toggle.... Here is some of your CSS -
#layActivities {
position:absolute;
left:14px;
top:-176px;
width:350px;
z-index:9;
visibility: hidden;
height: 300px;
#layAccom {
position:absolute;
left:16;
top:124;
width:400px;
z-index:10;
visibility: hidden;
height: 300px;
#layAbout {
position:absolute;
left:416px;
top:36px;
z-index:7;
overflow: hidden;
width: 750px;
height: 325px;
visibility: hidden;
#layLocation {
position:absolute;
left:16px;
top:124px;
width:400px;
z-index:11;
visibility: hidden;
height: 300px;
> All of my layers are relatively positioned using this
gif as the anchor
Uhh - clearly you don't understand how relative positioning
works. Relative
positioning takes its base location from the coordinates of
the nearest
positioned ancestor container. You cannot relatively position
to an image.

Perhaps I am not looking at the correct page? But anyhow, a
layer is not
relatively positioned as far as DW is concerned. Layers are
only absolutely
positioned elements.

Yes. Using CSS or not, there is no way to prevent someone
from resizing
your text.

Unequivocally, no.

See discussion above.

  • .swf object/embed problem (only on Win XP IE)

    I have a swf move on domain
    http://www.foo.com. I am trying to
    embed this swf movie on a webpage hosted on
    http://www.bar.com.
    Mac OS X (all browsers) and on Windows Netscape (7.2 and
    8.0/8.1 using the Firefox display option) and Firefox work fine!
    Just IE 6 on Win XP... does not work. Will not display Flash
    content, will not display alternate content, will not display
    error... simply displays.... nothing!
    (sample URL:
    http://www.lerchdesign.com/header.html)
    Please advise. Thank you.

    What version of Firefox are you using, and do you use the FF plugin_container?
    I don't know if this is actually a Flash Player problem; perhaps you should also ask in the Flash or Flex forum.

  • Trouble getting the swf object to work

    the html housing my flash site, has the internet explorer
    bug, the active content thing. I'd like to get rid of it.
    The code i was using to embed my flash movie was this..
    <object
    classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"
    width="100%" height="1400px" align="middle">
    <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
    <param name="movie" value="shell2.swf" /><param
    name="quality" value="high" /><param name="scale"
    value="exactfit" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff"
    /><embed src="shell2.swf" quality="high" scale="exactfit"
    bgcolor="#ffffff" width="100%" height="100%" align="middle"
    allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
    pluginspage="
    http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
    />
    </object>
    I don't know how to keep my parameters from here, while using
    the swf object embed code. Can someone help me to do this? Why is
    this not working?
    Thanks.

    i know that's not the swf object. But I tried to use that
    little tutorial and it isn't like one size fits all. The previous
    code i used had a bunch of parameters that are not present in this
    swf object thing.
    Any advice would be great.

  • Safari 5.1.2 on Windows 7 has issues with hiding SWF objects in IFRAMEs

    Try as I may I cannot hide a Flash object in an HTML page referenced as the source of an IFRAME tag despite being able to hide the IFRAME when using Safari 5.1.2 on a Windows 7 machine.
    This is not a problem for the latest versions of Safari, Chrome and Firefox on a Mac. This is not a problem for the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox on a Windows 7 machine.
    Following is sample HTML and JavaScript for the page that includes the IFRAME tag:
    <button id="tryit" type="button">Try It</button>
    <div id="test">
         <iframe src="hideswf-iframe.html" width="770" height="610" frameborder="0"></iframe>
    </div>
    <script type="text/javascript">
         var test = document.getElementById("test"),
              tryit = document.getElementById("tryit");
         tryit.addEventListener( "click", hideAndSeek, false );
         function hideAndSeek(e) {
              var style = test.style;
              style.opacity = (style.opacity == 1 || style.opacity == "") ? 0 : 1;
    </script>
    And the following is the OBJECT tag for the SWF object that would exist in the page "hideswf-iframe.html" referenced as the source of the IFRAME tag in the above code block:
    <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="strobemediaplayback" data="StrobeMediaPlayback.swf" width="743" height="600" style="visibility: visible; ">
         <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true">
         <param name="wmode" value="direct">
         <param name="flashvars" value="favorFlashOverHtml5Video=true&swf=StrobeMediaPlayback.swf&javascriptCallbackFunction=$.fn.strobemediaplayback.triggerHandler&minimumFlashPlayerVersion=10.0.0&expressInstallSwfUrl=expressInstall.swf&autoPlay=false&loop=false&controlBarMode=docked&poster=&src=http://players.edgesuite.net/videos/big_buck_bunny/bbb_448x252.mp4&useHTML5=false&width=1187&height=959&queryString=favorFlashOverHtml5Video=true&swf=StrobeMediaPlayback.swf&javascriptCallbackFunction=$.fn.strobemediaplayback.triggerHandler&minimumFlashPlayerVersion=10.0.0&expressInstallSwfUrl=expressInstall.swf&autoPlay=false&loop=false&controlBarMode=docked&poster=&src=http://players.edgesuite.net/videos/big_buck_bunny/bbb_448x252.mp4&useHTML5=false&width=1187&height=959">
    </object>
    The complex aspect is that this issue only manifests itself with some SWF objects, but not all. In the admittedly small sample of objects I tested I observed that the ones that failed were focused on video content (basically they were video players) while the ones that didn't exhibit the issues were not delivery mechanisms for video content.
    I have already tried using JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as jQuery and Scriptaculous - they didn't fare any better.

    Actually it doesn't let me choose either of the buttons and before anything can happen the crash occurs. I tried to click on both buttons but it seems not to work. Thanks!

  • SWF Object 1.6 issues with Safari 5

    Just downloaded Safari 5 on Snow Leopard.
    SWF Object 1.6 is not working at all with it.  It is shifting the swf files around and not playing nice.  Anyone else having this issue?

    Auntyjoy23 do you face the same difficulties when accessing the Date of Birth option at Acrobat.com?
    Have you looked to see if you have any add-ons or plug-ins installed in your browsers?  If so then you will want to try disabling them to see if this then allows you to adjust the Date of Birth option.
    Also as another alternative you may want to consider accessing a different computer to enter your Date of Birth.  You will only need to do this once and it may be the most expedient option to resolve your current difficulties.

  • Struggling to embed a .swf object in DW CS5

    So I just got CS5, after upgrading from CS3 and have basically spent a whole week figuring out my old workflows. The following problem has stumped me for the past 2 hours, and I can't seem to fix it.
    I have a basic html file with a table. In the table, I have been in the past embedding a little video player that plays an flv file. When I publish the Flash files from flash CS5 and play them with flash player, they play fine... Adobe flash player 10 opens up a little window after I double click on the .swf on my hard drive.
    So in Dreamweaver I drag the swf from my assets into my html doc. It creates all this code which CS3 didn't create (I compared with some of the html docs that I did under CS3). This code pertains to checking your version of flash and forcing to download the latest flash player. All seems good until I preview in browser by hitting f12, you know the drill...
    At this point I would expect my little flash player embedded into my web page to play the .flv  video off my hard disc. Instead I see this prompt on my web page that says
    "Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player." and there is a download button.... WTF!!!! Same result in Firefox and IE 8
    So at first I thought I was not up to date, yet I am playing all flash content fine on my browser, and the pages I created under CS3 load the flash player, with flash 10. I even reinstalled flash 10 successfully. I still get the stupid prompt when I am previewing my HTML...
    First of all, I want to be able to control whether this occurs on my pages or not, it obviously has to do with the content created under CS5, because I never had this under CS3. I tried removing what I suspected was the code resonsible for this, but then it breaks the page and the video does not even show up.
    How can I clean this mess up?  Is there a way to force DW to just post the flash content without all this extra code that does flash version checking, it's a nuisance and I can't make it work properly. Thank you for your help.

    Rather than dragging it, have you tried Insert>Media>SWF or Ctrl+Alt+F to insert it in the same place?
    It will still generate the "get FlashPlayer" code but you should also see the object embed code for the SWF.
    Dragging may not properly link to the media file, which will result in you seeing the prompt to download the latest player.
    There is a note in the code (or there should be, I always see it when I insert from the menu bar) that tells you what to remove if you don;t want the prompt to show.
    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="768" height="266" id="FlashID" title="your_flash_file">

  • Issue with getting handle to the swf object in a jsp

    Hi,
    I have a jsp file which has the <object> tag to include the Flex swf file on the jsp. I have certain functions exposed to javascript (using ExternalInterface.callback) that can be used in the jsp. But when I try to get the handle to the swf object using document[swfId] or window.document[swfId] or document.getElementById(swfId) ..it returns back NULL..
    This works on some browers and doesn't work on some. I even tried to reinstall my browser but in vain.
    Any someone provide me with some pointers on this ?

    Hi, Thanks for getting back with me.  I know exactly what you mean about  the "www" or "public" section of a server as I've seen that on other servers that I've worked on with DW.
    However, this is different and it doesn't appear to have one.  I've taken a screen shot below of what the server looks like.  I did it with FTP as I'm on another computer that does not have DW.  As you'll see there are actually 2 sites I need to get connected to to change the web pages with DW - "beta.----.gov" and "www.----.gov." That's pretty much how it is.  The beta one is what they want me to do is make the edits on a page in the beta site first and then show them.  Upon approval, I will then go into the live site (www) and duplicate what I did to make the changes live. So again, your screen shots seem to help (I won't know until tomorrow when I'm on the other computer in another building that has Dreamweaver on it to try to use your DW settings) but does this make sense?  Any other ideas that could be useful to get me up and running? Thanks.

  • DW cs6 flash swf nobroder embed cropping

    I have a bottom cropping issue with a swf embed "noborder" which from what I understand according the specs is an issue when using noborder. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a work around or perhaps the problem is between the keyboard and chair. I've tried playng with some CSS and HTML coding with no luck.

    I still don't understand why it cropped like that though
    noborder is designed to crop the content:

  • Border around embedded swf object in IE 8

    I'm well aware of the Eleos/Microsoft issues that came before IE 8. However this isn't my problem. My company's website is able to display the swf file fine in FF but in IE, as soon as somebody clicks on the swf file, it does its thing without having to double-click (as in the ActiveX issue previously discussed) but also has what looks like a pink border around it. I'm testing in IE and created the Flash component in Flash CS4 using AS 3.0.
    website address: http://arc-a.org/
    Like I said before, the SWF object is activated on the first click, and doesn't have to do with the previously mentioned ActiveX control issue.
    Any help in the matter would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    kglad,
    Are you able to interact with the slideshow without seeing any border once you active the control?
    I thought MS did away with the ActiveX Control in IE8...why are you still seeing that warning?

  • SWF Object Won't Play In PowerPoint 2003

    I'm having a problem with an SWF Object in PowerPoint
    2003...I've followed the instructions at
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010348071033.aspx
    ...however when logged in under Windows XP (SP2) as a
    non-administrator, the Flash object will not run. When a standard
    (non-administrator) user runs PowerPoint, they receive the error
    "Some controls on this presentation can't be activated. They might
    not be registered on this computer.". . .but when an Administrator
    logs on, they don't receive this error and the embedded SWF file
    runs fine when running the PowerPoint presentation?
    I have the latest Flash Player installed and when opening the
    SWF file in Internet Explorer, it runs fine.
    Any Ideas?

    There are some known issues with the latest Flash player
    version (8,0,24,0) and non-administrator accounts. Not only with
    Powerpoint. No work-around known. Sorry.
    You will have to wait for the next version and hope....

  • Render a swf object(contains an image) in navigator not possible

    Hy, I have a swf object that is an image(a circle). I have tried to render it in firefox but it doesnt render anything but I have tried with other swf object(not an image, an application) and it renders it ok. So can I render a swf file that is an image or is not possible? should I extract the image in it first to render on the navigator?
    Thanks

    Take a look at
    http://developers.sun.com/jscreator/learning/tutorials
    /2/file_upload.html#07.Thanks jetsons. That particular code sample (#7 in SJSC, #8 in Netbeans) shows only how to serialize a file to a different location on the server, not how to reference a file (not stored within the app forlder) to be rendered as a result of hyperlink click for example. Reading a little further in that page, it says:
    Be careful when putting the uploaded files in the web application as anyone can access the files by URL, such as http://localhost:29080/MyWebApplication/faces/upload/images/myPicture.gif.
    So, I am thinking that for added security, may be it is meant to be that I can't make an imageComponent reference a file outside of the wep app folder, but I am just guessing. In which case, I will simply have to store all such files within the web app folder before attempting to access them, unless someone has a better answer.
