Switch Focus to Captivate in Beginning

I want to disable the arrow keys so that the page does not scroll when the Captivate movie plays.
One of my simulations requires the use of UP and DOWN arrow keys.  When they are pressed, the entire browser window scrolls.  I don't want this.
I found this code on the Internet and added it to the Web page that has the embedded swf file.
<script type="text/javascript">
var keys = [];
window.addEventListener("keydown",
    function(e){
        keys[e.keyCode] = true;
        switch(e.keyCode){
            case 37: case 39: case 38:  case 40: // Arrow keys
            case 32: e.preventDefault(); break; // Space
            default: break; // do not block other keys
false);
window.addEventListener('keyup',
    function(e){
        keys[e.keyCode] = false;
false);
</script>
It works in Firefox when Captivate movie loads.  However, in IE, I have to press the TAB key in order to prevent the arrow keys from scrolling the entire page.  I don't want my students to have to press the TAB key.
I was wondering if there is a way to shift the focus to the Captivate movie when the movie loads?
Thanks

I figured out a workaround to disable arrow keys from scrolling the page.  In addition to the above javascript code, I modified the body tag:
<body onload="RightClick.init();" style="overflow: hidden>

  • Why does my mac not switch focus between applications

    All,
    I have a very inconvenient problem on my mac.
    Every time when I click on a link in e.g. Mail or Twitter, my Mac opens the link in Safari but does not switch focus to the Safari window with the loaded page.
    Similar behaviour in every application.
    Does anyone has an idea?
    Thanks,
    equi

    Carolyn,
    thanks, but this did not solve my problem. The issue is, that Safari itself does not get the focus and I am not brought to the space where Safari has opened the page.
    I tried your suggestion, turned the setting on and off and on again, but the behaviour is still the same. I assume that it has something to do with spaces itself.
    Thanks for your time having responsed to my post,

    just regular FireWire cable (6-6 pin) - when you use target mode, computer acts as if it was external hard drive and supposed to show up on another Mac's desktop as a drive - you could use Disk Utility on another Mac and format the PowerBoook.
    if there is some hardware problem though, sometimes target mode won't work.
    also, maybe try some other OS disc just in case your OS CD is defective somehow.

  • Switching languages in Captivate

    Hey Captivaters
    I've just started working with Captivate on an eLearning
    project. I need to make our presentations bilingual (English &
    French).
    What I would like to do is have a user select which language
    they prefer at the beginning of the presentation, then have the
    captions change to match their language selection. It would also be
    neat if I could pass their language selection in through parameters
    in the HTML page, but that's a bit beyond this project.
    There is no audio at this point, and if there were I would
    simply create a second presentation for the other language.
    Is what I'm asking possible?
    Thanks!

    Hi Mike Dub and welcome to our community
    I would think this would require at least two different
    Captivate files. Each file would be in its own language. At the
    beginning, you would have a link that would point to the other in
    the event the user wanted the other language.
    Unfortunately there is simply no way to dynamically switch
    the caption languages within the same movie.
    One possibility might be to emulate something like SAP is
    used with TVs. Insert closed captioning that would present in the
    secondary language for each slide.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Why does Firefox switch focus to an immediately adjacent tab (in a series of tabs) on middle-clicking a link instead of staying on the same tab? (with setting of NOT switching to new tab).

    I have usually 4 tabs open by default. If, for example, I'm in the first tab and middle-click a link to open a new tab, the tab opens but firefox focuses on the tab immediately adjacent to the tab I'm on (in this case, from tab 1 to tab 2 instead of staying on tab 1 whilst tab 5 is loading). The pattern repeats if I'm on tab x and open a new tab from tab x, but focus shifts to tab (x+1) instead of staying on tab x.
    It happens more often than not, i.e. it sometimes stops but usually happens.
    I have this setup for a year now and this is the first time this is happening. I believe since this latest update of 3.6.13.

    This issue can be caused by an extension or plugin that isn't working properly.
    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • How to switch focus in Mail.app?

    Hello!
    I am trying to use Mail.app only with the keyboard.
    However one last thing keeps me using the MagicTrackpad: I was not able to discover how to switch the focus from one folder of the folder list on the left side to the mails within this folder (in the middle panel - using the 3-panel-view).
    Do you have an idea how to do this?
    Thank you!
    Kind regards,
    Vlad

    Hi, Jeffrey!
    Thanks for your reply!
    In the linked article you can find:
    "You can use the tab key to switch between the three areas of Mail.app’s interface — (1) the Mailbox Viewer, (2) The Message List Viewer, the (3) Preview Pane and the search field in the Toolbar:"
    This is no longer true for me (not even in the classic design!), running Version 6.2 (1499) from Mail.app with 10.8.2: I can not switch between this areas using the tab key!
    Do you?
    Kind regards,
    Vlad

  • Must bring window to the front w/o switching focus

    Ok, now I'm happy subclassing whatever I have to, but I haven't been able to find anything for pushing a window to the front as toFront() will, that DOESN'T switch the focus.
    Basically I have subclassed JWindow to show a little window that will disappear when you click on it or after a specified period of time. Now I would like to be able to show that window above everything else, but if I use toFront() that little window will gain focus which is NOT what I want.
    I just need to push it to the front w/o gaining focus. if this is possible, like you can point me in the right direction, much appreciated. if this simply isn't possible due to the VM/OS windowing systems, please let me know.

    I was afraid someone would say that. that was what the guys in my JUG said, but I needed to check with a larger community to verify.
    On a second note, can anyone explain why a KeyListener attached to a JWindow won't recieve key events when there's a label in the content pane?
    If you know, please enlighten me.

  • 2nd display disappears on switching focus to another application

    Hi,
    I'm running LR5 on Windows. I've got the grid view on my primary display and a second display showing the loupe view.
    If the focus moves to another application (i.e. a small notepad window on the primary display) then I can still see LR with its grid view in the background behind notepad on the primary display however the loupe view on the second display disappears and I can see the desktop.
    Is it possible to configure LR not to automatically hide the 2nd display when the input foucs moves to a different wiindow? I'd like to be able to continue displaying the image on the 2nd display while I'm doing something else on the primary display.
    I've not been able to check but I've a feeling this is new behaviour in 5, I don't think 3 or 4 did this.
    Many thanks in advance for your time/help! :-)

    No, sorry.  I've just checked LR3 for you, and the behaviour's the same.

  • Safely switching focus during backspace key down event?

    I have a simple form that I'm building. It has a variable
    length list
    of entries, and I'm using a TextInput for each entry.
    Because the list is variable in length, I'm allowing the user
    to
    delete elements from the list. One of the ways they can do
    this is to
    press the backspace key when the cursor is in an empty
    TextInput. I
    am handing KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN and checking for the
    backspace key,
    to accomplish this.
    The problem I am having is that after I remove the deleted
    TextInput,
    I want to leave the focus in the TextInput above. I can do
    this using
    'setFocus', and that works fine, however it seems that the
    backspace
    is still processing, and so after the focus is set, the
    content of the
    TextInput is delete which I don't want.
    To get around this, I've created a one-shot timer with a 0ms
    delay
    which changes the focus after the KeyDown event has
    completed.
    My workaround is successful, but feels very heavy handed. Is
    there a
    better way to achieve the same effect?
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    -Robin

    I guess one of the way could be adding KEY_DOWN listener on
    focus and removing it from other input fields at the same time.
    adding/removing listeners is pretty fast.

  • Focus-requests when switching tabs in JTabbedPane

    I have a tabbed pane with a JTextArea in each tab. I would like to switch focus to the corresponding area each time I select a tab or create a new one. A ChangeListener can detect tab selections and call requestFocusInWindow() on the newly chosen tab's text area.
    For some reason, the focus only switches sporadically. Sometimes the caret appears to stay, sometimes it only blinks once, and sometimes it never appears. My friend's workaround is to call requestFocusInWindow() again after the setSelectedIndex() calls, along with a Thread.sleep() delay between them. Oddly, in my test application the delay and extra focus-request call are only necessary when creating tabs automatically, rather than through a button or shortcut key.
    Does the problem lie in separate thread access on the same objects? I tried using "synchronized" to no avail, but EventQueue.invokeLater() on the focus request worked. Unfortunately, neither the delay nor invokeLater worked in all situations in my real-world application. Might this be a Swing bug, or have I missed something?
    Feel free to tinker with my test application:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.event.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    /**Creates a tabbed pane with scrollable text areas in each tab.

    * text area so that the cursor appears and the user can immediately type
    * in the area.

    Did you ever get everything figured out with this? I have a similar problem ... which I have working, but it seems like I had to use a bunch of hacks.
    I think the problem with the mouse clicks is because each event when you click the moues (mousePressed, mouseReleased, mouseClicked) causes the tab to switch, and also these methods are called twice for some reason - for a total of 8 events giving the tab the focus instead of your textarea.
    This works, but seems aweful hacky:
         class TabMouseListener extends MouseAdapter
              private boolean switched = false;
              public void mousePressed( MouseEvent e ) { checkPop( e ); }
              //public void mouseReleased( MouseEvent e ) { checkPop( e ); }
              //public void mouseClicked( MouseEvent e ) { checkPop( e ); }
              public void checkPop( MouseEvent e )
                   if( e.isPopupTrigger() )
                        mousex = e.getX();
                        mousey = e.getY();
                        int index = tabPane.indexAtLocation( mousex, mousey );
                        if( index == -1 ) return;
                        tabMenu.show( tabPane, mousex, mousey );
                   else {
                        if( !switched )
                             switched = true;
                             e.consume();
                             int index = tabPane.indexAtLocation( e.getX(), e.getY() );
                             if( index != -1 )
                                  tabPane.setSelectedIndex( index );
                                  TabFramePanel panel = (TabFramePanel)tabPane.getComponentAt( index );
                                  if( panel != null ) panel.getInputComponent().requestFocus();
                        else {
                             switched = false;
                             TabFramePanel panel = (TabFramePanel)tabPane.getSelectedComponent();
                             if( panel != null ) panel.getInputComponent().requestFocus();
         }Do you know of a better way yet?

  • Detail Region as TOC for captivate (.swf) files

    Hi All,
    Not sure how to explain this, but i will do my best. I didnt like the TOC/Aggregator for CP 5. Thinking maybe to use Spry data using the Detail Region sample. I thought it would be simple to just combine the Detail Region code with the publsihed .swf and .htm code. But not sure what im doing wrong or if this is even possible to do. I was experimenting just using the exact same code and xml for Detail Region sample and modifying it a bit. See below...
    Appreciate the Help! Thank you.

    Hi,
    I think you will need a third party convertor - a quick
    google sent me to this one

    which is free.

  • Window focus resets after using PUT

    This concerns Dreamweaver 12.1 build 5949 on OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    I have been using Dreamweaver for years now and one of my favorite shortcuts is CMD + SHIFT + U which PUTs the file I am currently working on. I love it, but ever since the most recent updates to Dreaweaver came out (maybe the past 2) when I use this command Dreamweaver switches focus from the CODE VIEW (the one I am in) to the FILES window. Here is a rundown of how I execute this:
    - type code into the code view
    - do CMD + SJIFT + U
    - CMD + TAB to go to the browser
    - hit REFRESH to check the page
    - CMD + TAB back to Dreamweaver
    - start typing... but now I am in the FILES window and if I hit BACKSPACE then it asks if I want to delete the file.
    This is annoying especially because I look at the keyboard when I type so when I am back in dreamweaver I am already typing out a string, then I look up and I am deleting a whole folder structure instead... or file... very frustrating...
    Maybe someone can offer some insight on a better way of executing this... no I will not use LIVE CODE VIEW... that thing is lame.

    I have some focus issues too on Win with Creative Cloud build --  although not the same as yours.  My problem is with Expanded Files panel.  On closing it, my focus changes to the Tag Inspector which I never use.
    I'm planning on submitting a bug report.  You may wish to do the same.

  • Focus problems for a JTextField in a JTable

    Hi,
    I have a textfield that is inside of a JPanel and placed in a table cell. The textfield doesn't fill both horizontally and vertically inside the table cell like it normally would. The problem I am encountering is this:
    When I click on the cell and I am outside the bounds of the textfield, the textfield cannot grab the focus and let me start typing away. How can I get it so that if i click on the cell ( but outside the bounds of the textfield ) that it knows i'm in that cell and give the focus to the textfield?
    If it was me, i wouldn't have the textfield inside a jpanel and I would let it fill the whole cell but the client doesn't want that. They want the textfield set at a certain size and with proper padding around it. That means that only a portion of the cell has the textfield. Somehow I need the table to figure out that the cell was selected but outside of the textfield and then have it be smart enough to know this and switch focus to the textfield so I can start typing. I can post my code if someone needs to see what I am doing.
    Thanks ahead of time.

    Take a look at Component.setFocusTraversalKeysEnabled() (which exists only in jdk 1.4).
    Setting this to false may solve your problem.

  • Working with Captivate 1 & 2

    Hi, this is really a question for Captiv8r, but i'm keeping
    it out in the open so as to perhaps help others with the same or
    similar problems.
    We have recently purchased several licences of Captivate 2
    for our Vista production systems. However Captivate 2 does not work
    as it should on Vista at this time and as such we are looking at
    other options in order to allow us to continue with our projects.
    We are looking at the option of running Captivate 1 alongside
    Captivate 2, but are not sure if this is a good option to progress
    with. What we are thinking of doing is running Captivate 1, doing
    the training simulation captures and then converting the captures
    to version 2. However, Captivate 2 has some great features and we
    are wondering if we might be losing out on any if we do it this
    way. So basically, could you tell us what the best approach would
    be, what we may lose by doing it this way, what extra steps we
    might need to take etc etc?? on the face of it, from just a few
    test runs, it seems straight forward, basically setting captivate 1
    to training simulation, capturing the session and then opening up
    and converting the project in captivate 2, making any final
    adjustments as necessary. Is this a good approach? and more
    importantly, will we lose anything?
    (having a quick glance at the Captivate 2 features on the
    adobe site, it would appear that the majority of the new features
    take effect after the capturing has been done, ie adding flash
    video, timeline effects etc. Can you clarify?)
    Thank you.

    Even though I am not Captiv8r I know that Rick
    won't mind if I add one more to his list.
    4. In Adobe Captivate 2, there isn't really any limit on how
    much full motion recording you capture. It is now really up to the
    user and the performance of your system. If you have a very long
    amount of full motion recording the footage is simply split into
    multiple slides. By Default Full Motion Recording mode is
    automatically triggered when you perform a drag, drag and drop or
    use your mouse wheel to scroll as you would expect these options
    can be turned off via the Recording Options dialog box (Project
    > Recording options...)
    You can manually turn on Full Motion Recording mode by
    pressing F9 on your keyboard and F10 to switch back to Captivate's
    default capturing mode.
    Personally, I would strongly suggest that wherever possible
    you try and avoid using full motion recording, since this will
    increase the overall size of your Captivate 2 projects. But it is a
    new feature in Adobe Captivate 2 so there you go.

    . As I have mentioned in a previous post, Adobe
    Captivate 2 has been tested with Vista, however Vista is still
    prelease software, a detailed list of the sort of problems you are
    encountering and screen shots of any error messagse you are
    encountering would be extremely useful.
    You can send screen shots to the web address I have listed
