Switched to XFCE... 2 minor questions/problems remain.

Question

I have made a test installation of XFCE om my computer and i have 2 small questions.
1.
I now make network connections from the terminal by using ifconfig/iwconfig and dhcpcd but this lat program gives me a headacke.
I can activate the service by typing "dhcpcd eth0" but then it forkes to the background and it will not stop running there until i use the command "killall dhcpcd".
Surely there is a way to make it stop running for a particular interface or to make it ask for another dhcp lease without having to kill it .... right ?
How do i stop dhcpcd running in the background for eth0 ? anyone got any ideas ?
2.
When i right click anywhere i get a menu come up where it says "Create From Template => Empty File" but this doesn't work.
I cannot find a single treath online about this and i was wondering if anyone has the same issue ?
Any ideas on howto fix this ? i would like to have it working as i often use this command to make new script files.

If I understand you correctly: You want to be able to renew the DHCP lease on a specified interface. If possible, using the running dhcpcd service.
Have you read the dhcpcd manpage? Because I believe this does what you want, it does for me:
-n, --rebind
Notifies dhcpcd to reload its configuration and rebind its inter‐
faces. If dhcpcd is not running, then it starts up as normal.
So that makes:
dhcpcd -n <interface>
Rebinds the specified interface and that should get you a new DHCP lease if I'm not mistaken.
And a more global variant for all interfaces:
-g, --reconfigure
dhcpcd will re-apply IP address, routing and run
dhcpcd-run-hooks(8) for each interface. This is useful so that a
3rd party such as PPP or VPN can change the routing table and /
or DNS, etc and then instruct dhcpcd to put things back after‐
wards. dhcpcd does not read a new configuration when this hap‐
pens - you should rebind if you need that functionality.

From the manpage:
-k, --release
This causes an existing dhcpcd process running on the interface
to release its lease, de-configure the interface and then exit.
dhcpcd then waits until this process has exited.
I believe this sortof does what you want

Interesting. This works for me fine in Thunar in a folder I have write access to.
Just discovered this does not work on the Desktop for me. No problem, because I do not use the desktop for anything.
You could also do this in the command line by typing
touch <filename>
That will create an empty file with the specified name.
