Switching from Talk Talk to BT broadband

Hi - I'd be grateful if anyone has a quick answer to this as I'm trying to phone BT and am in a massive queue!
I'm currently with Talk Talk phone and broadband but I have just signed up for a BT landline after which I was told I'd be contacted to arrange the broadband switch. I was told over the phone that I need a "MAC number" from Talk Talk to do this. But when I called Talk Talk just now they said I wouldn't have one as I have an "LLU" line with them whereas BT would be on a "WLR" line. I was also told that this means I'll have a slower connection with BT. Does this all sound correct to someone who knows? I don't want to delay things when I try to switch.
Thanks in advance!

  • It's been a nightmare switching from Talk Talk to ...

I do not know if anyone else has had the same problems as me switching but it has been a complete nightmare that is never ending.
I have a BT line with BT and a line with Talk Talk.
I received a letter from BT re the award winning broadband and unlimited weekend calls and thought it looked great. I also saw the advert in the paper. I am sure you may have seen it. Yes the special Winter Warmer Deal that expires in May 2011 and gives Broadband for nothing for 3 months.
Well, I applied on line to transfer and paid the £125 for the box and 12 months rental. I asked Talk Talk for the MAC code. I thought all was going well.
BT put Broadband on my existing BT line, which I did not want, and switched my Broadband charging me £16 per month. They left the line with Talk Talk. To add insult to injury the took £120 for the line rental on the new line which they are not providing. Basically emptying my wallet. I have phoned and written to BT and have been cut off, the person never calls back, even faxing the Correspondence Centre has no effect and emails seem to start OK with friendly advice that the person will look at it and then the person stops responding.
I am thinking of writing to the Newspapers and press as it is a good example of a large company not caring or wanting customers who in my case want to come back. Not something I really want to do.
Has anyone else had the same experience?
Does anyone know the Chief Execs phone number or how I can contact him/her?
Should I just go back to Talk Talk?
I look forward to advice and suggestions.
    Thanks

    me too.
I transferred to BT from Talk Talk. All seemed fine, I wanted broadband and phone, so signed up for the winter saver and paid 12 months line rental up front.
All went well apart from 1471 not registering some calls and a message light on my phone, even though no message was left, even if the phone only rang two or three times and I did  not pick up the  call. Also I cannot get the operator on 100 ?
I spent almost an hour trying to sort this out yesterday, with BT phoning me back several times.
Then today my first bill arrived in my in box, which should have been £0 as I had first 3 months free. But it was over £20 !!! I have been charged for making calls over the internet? I do not know how to do that ? I have my one original phone, and the same number. BT have said that internet call have been activated? How? And anyway why would I have signed up to a free service and then used one which is chargeable?
At first I was told no refund would be given, so I spoke to a supervisor and have got a partial refund. I want a full refund which includes a strange charge of £1.50 for not using my phone enough? How can I be charged an extra charge for not using something enough which was free ???
I also now see that BT broadband talk is not available from January 2011. I signed up to start  my new winter package in February and my new hub is not supposed to support this service either but I have been charged for this?
The supervisor on 0800800150 sorted out my refund but said she could not refund the underusage charge of £1.50.
Talk Talk are also hopeless, so I wish you luck.

  • Can't get router working after switching from DSL to Cable broadband???

    I have a WRT54G v.5
I just switched from dsl service to cable broadband. I can't get my router to work. I hooked it back up just as the dsl modem used to be. there is an ethernet cable that goes from the cable modem to the router. then an eithernet cable that goes from the router to the computer. this does not work. If I just take the router out of the loop and run an eithernet cable straight from the cable modem to the computer it works fine. so the cable internet service is working fine up to the modem. The router is the problem. I have restarted both the computer and the router. so that rules that out. can you help me?

Open the setup page of the router by launching an Internet Explorer Browser and type the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field empty and provide password as admin and click on ok.On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings button. Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".- Click on enable.Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router .... If getting Valid Ip .... try going online...If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then, try going online.

Well, the Airport Express is also compatible with 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. If your Wii is unable to connect to the wireless network, I recommended changing the wireless security of your network.
Open Airport Utility, select your Airport Express and click Edit. Navigate to the Wireless tab and change your security from WPA2 Personal to WPA/WPA2 Personal. Then click Update on the bottom right.

  • Device Switch Copies Talk Time ?

    Morning,
I was just wondering if anyone has come across this issue as I was trying to return a Pearl that I'd purchased on Friday last week and the store policy states that within 15 days & under 15 mins of talk time they will take back a phone.  When I went into the store to do so they said I had over 7 hrs of talk time on the pearl that I'd just purchased.  Well after much frustration and calls to my carrier they allowed me to purchase the new Curve.  At the end of the whole ordeal the store manager wanted me to ensure the new phone had 0 mins of talk time and lo and behold after they'd performed the data switch from the pearl to the curve it showed the 7 hrs of talk time on the Brand New curve.  They did not know and neither did I that the Device Switch procedure that we'd originally done from an old Curve to the Pearl had copied my 7 hrs of talk time from my original curve and it's carried over to the pearl and now to the new curve.
Needless to say it causes much frustration to anyone who is trying to return a phone and the store's policy is such as mine.  Anyone who doesn't know about this little glitch in the device switch are going to encounter this problem.  Sorry for the long expaination but I'm still frustrated that I spent almost 2 hrs arguing with the store about an issue that's clearly not valid.  Is there a way to prevent copying the talk time from phone to phone ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I reading more on the device switch wizard it does a COMPLETE device backup and then transfers to the new
phone. This would tell me the call logs are copied as well.
    Hope this helps!

  • BEEN TRYING TO SWITCH FROM SKY UNLIMITED TO INFINI...

The grass is not always greener on the other side! Althought it certainly looked that way when I decided to switch provider to take advantage of the BT Sport package.
I ordered the full monty Infinity, Phone, Broadband and TV package and did so via a cashback website. Strangely the next day they created separate order for just a phone install and my cashback track "failed". (saving BT £120). Although I've waited so long now I launched an investigation using my own evidence to Quidco and it was granted again!
My Phone line was switched over pretty quickly (realised later that once your phone line has been switched to BT, to switch back to Sky and use their equipment at the exchange would cost a fee of £50! grrr). So I started to feel a little trapped. But tried to be positive.
Unfortunately nothing else happened. I called BT who initially denied there was any order for anything else. Luckily I keep screen shots/emails + original details of my order much to their embarassment. They apologised but insisted they should put order again immediately on phone. (which would have saved BT more cashback but I said no thanks I will do it online). I tried to cancel everything but here I was told I would have to pay £50 to switch phone line back. The cheek! Trapped.
I got a date 23rd of July for my switch over to Infinity, BT Vision Box arrived, engineer booked in on a 8am-1pm slot. Things were looking positive. Took day off and engineer was late but he did ring me to warn me in his defence. He seemed very competent and knowledgeable. After 5 hours though he said he had to leave and that he couldn't get it working although he thinks he cleared a fault on the line. I'm in IT and had a friend who used to be Openreach engineer. So we discussed in detail the situation.
Obviously I do not know for sure, but appears that my FTTC service was a no go because the local Cabinet had no spare ports only five broken ones (he tried about 3 of these). He said he was not sure when more would be provisioned. (I thought surely in advance they would reserve one or check this!). Imagine ordering a Tesco grocery delivery only for the driver to turn up saying unfortunately they didnt have anything for me.
But asI had been messed about for 6 weeks I thought BT will be straight back tomorrow to fix this. Engineer told me I would get a call next day. Heard nothing. I rang up 2 days later to be told the engineers were "deciding" what to do next. Never got a call back.
Unfortunately thats where I have been ever since. Only yesterday was I promised a new engineer on 14th of July after another two calls I made to India and 40 mins on phone talking to very nice but time consuming operators:
KULJEET FINGH (promised me a call back)
SWATI KUMARI - very helpful and believes she has fixed this.
I have had about 3 missed calls from scottish sounding customer service reps but they do not leave me a number to reach them. When I do call I get the India overflow or level 1 scripted service who don't know anything about the voicemails I received or my previous calls. Each calls takes ages to get through navigation then explain the situation.
So now I am thinking to myself, why oh why should I let them make me wait about another two weeks. I am struggling to find a reason to stick with BT.
Should I give up and give let Sky try and install Fibre?

Well I have an update. I decided to stay as I was so far down the road. They gave me an engineer appointment of 14 of August which was totally disgusting.
I rang up to complain and was promised a call back as they tried to expediate my request. Never happened.
Whilst on these calls I also questioned the validity of sending another engineer unless they first checked that my local cabinet hard an available fibre port. I was promised and promised that they would put the notes on the call and it would not be a wasted engineer visit.
Engineer came today. Wasted visit - no ports on the cabinet.
He was not even sure why he was sent there knowing there were no ports. Talk about the blind leading the blind.
The incompetency of this corporation is absolutely astounding even when their customers are telling them they are going to fail they lie to your face just to appease you on the phone and move you on.
So I ordered my switch from sky to BT on June 6th.. and so far all I have is a phone line.
On top of this I noticed that they have charged me a late payment fee by DD and full line rental for first month. BT were so slow at installing it all that my up front line rental apparently did not cover their initialy switch over. Despite telling me I would not be charged I have been charged.
Now as a web designer I am now tempted to create basic website and use my SEO skills to push it to top of google rankings sharing with everyone of my experience of BT.

  • Switching from a pc?

so, today i just purchased my first macbook comuputer (yaaaay) and i was told by a few friends that switching from a pc to a mac would be easy. i talked to one of my friends who walked me through importing some of my photos from an external hard drive onto this computer (as i no longer have the other pc), and they seemed to have downloaded fine, with the correct folder names and file names and everything.
now, i downloaded photoshop and when i went to open pictures there, the folder names had been replaced with today's date and a random number and had been taken out of the grouping folders i had them in. for example, instead of having a 'textures' folder with other folders inside of it, all of the folders are out in the iphoto subcategory with names such as '20140520-205017'. however, when i went to check back in iphoto to rename the files, they were all their with their proper names, but they had been taken out of their grouping folders (that, i don't mind as much, but considering the fact that you can't preview what's in the folder before you open it, i'd like to have the names there). is there a way to get the original names of the folders i had to transfer over into photoshop, or should i maybe wipe the pictures out and redownload them again?
i have no idea what operating system it's on, if that matters for anything, but it's the newest macbook air with (i'm assuming) the newest operating system, so.

Did you just copy your old photos to the mac in the Finder (Apples Desktop app), or did you import them into an app like iPhoto?
It sounds like you did the latter.  If you want to manually manage your photos file location then you just need to do a straight copy and not an import.

  • How do I switch from Windows to mac?

How do I switch from Windows to mac on a macmini?

    Hi,
I assume you are talking about a BootCamp Windows, right ?
If so, usually you hold down the Alt/Option-key at startup of your Mac to get the Boot Selection screen.
There you can choose which Operating System to boot into.
Once in OSX you might wanna go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.

  • Data Views: Switching from IQ to Crystal: How to?

    Hi everyone,
My company is looking to make the switch from IQ Report Writer 5 to Crystal Reports XI or 2008.
We have a couple questions though on how to make this switch easier.
I may need to talk to Business Objects support instead, but I thought I'd try here first.
Our data currently resides in a vision file format which is type of flat file.
Currently with the IQ Writer, we can establish IQ Views, which are essentially just predefined links between the different data tables. A user selects which view they will use for a report, then are able to pick and choose which columns to use from that view. A view may contain many tables, but when the report is generated, it will only access the tables necessary based on the columns selected.
Example: IQ View A constists of Tables A, B, and C. The view is defined as A.Column1 = B.Column1 and B.Column2 = C.Column2. If a user chooses columns from A and B, then the query only runs against tables A and B and doesn't have to process the data from C, which cuts down processing Cost.
Is there any way to create views like this in Crystal Reports XI? I know if we convert to SQL Server (which we have done for some users) we can create SQL Views, but the thing I noticed with SQL Views, was that it ran the query against Tables A, B, and C, even though C wasn't needed and it ended up returning duplicate rows. I could get around the duplicate info with a select distinct statement, but it still had to process the extra info, which increased the cost.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If it's a question for Business Objects Support, let me know.

  • How to remove switches from a fabric.

We have a couple of MDS9120's and a SUP1 9509 in our fabric that we want to retire.   I'm pretty sure that I don't want to just shut down these switches, unplug the cables and call it good.   Also the 9509 is the principal for two of our larger VSAN's and one of the 9120's is a principal for another that we are still using.  Also, this same used to have an IVR zoneset which I think is gone, at least I don't see it when I look at IVR.  Current all the switches in the fabric are running 3.31c code.  Since we are planning moving to the 4.x we want remove these since they will not be supported.
So, what is the procedure to make another switch the principal of a VSAN, and once a switch is no longer a principal what is the procedure for cleanly removing it from the fabric?     If someone has some insights or can point to me to documentation that covers this, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

In case anyone is still interested,  I opened a TAC case on this because I could see that the information was all out there, but I wanted to make sure that I didn't miss anything that would bite me.  It turnes out that it wasn't that big of a deal if you do it correctly.
To remove a switch that is the principal for a VSAN, as was mention earlier in this thread, you need to give it a lower priority and give the switch that you want to make the principal the highest priority.  In our case, the "old" switch had a priority of 1 for 3 of our VSANs, so I changed it to the default of 128 and on the switch that was to be the "new" principal, the priority was set to 1.  Assuming that you are in config mode on the switch, the commands from the CLI looked like this:
    On the "old" switch:
fcdomain priority 128 vsan xx   (xx being the number of the VSAN, this sets the switch priority to the default of 128)
fcdomain restart xx     (again, xx being the number of the VSAN,  This will non-disruptively restart the vsan on the switch and change the priority.  Be aware that if you are using static domain ID's the restart may be disruptive on the switch, check the documention for more on this)
    On the "new" switch:
fcdomain priority 1 vsan xx   (xx being the number of the VSAN, this sets the switch priority to the highest priority, 1)
fcdomain restart xx     (again, xx being the number of the VSAN,  This will non-disruptively restart the vsan on the switch and change the priority.  Be aware that if you are using static domain ID's the restart may be disruptive on the switch, check the documention for more on this)
Do this for every VSAN that the "old" switch is the principal and also on the "new" switch that is to be the principal.  From what I saw in the Domain Manager this will change the priority but won't necessarily change the principal assignment.  At this point the "old" switch is ready to be removed from the fabric.  Obviously, since this switch was the principal, you'll want to make sure that all of the zoneset information for those zones has been replicated to the other switches in the fabric, particularly to the switch that is to become the new principal.  Other than an ISL to the rest of the fabric and the connections to the management ports, there was nothing connected to the "old" switch.
At this point you can shutdown the ISL to the "old" switch from the switch that is on the other end of the ISL.  At this point you will see the fabric segment (as viewed from Fabric Manager)  At this point, I unplugged the management cables from the "old" switch, since I didn't want it talking to the Fabric Manager anymore.  I purged the switch and after about 5 or 10 minutes the segmentation went away and the fabric returned to normal, less the "old" switch.    There was no disruption to any of the 240+ hosts that were on the affected VSANs and the switch with the priority of 1 became the principal just like it was supposed to.
I think that once the ISL has been brought down, you want to take the switch off of the network or shut it down so that it can't continue to talk to the FM.  If this isn't done, FM will see that there are VSANs on that switch that are disconnected from the rest of the fabric and will show that the fabric is segmented.  I went through this procedure successfully on a SUP1 MDS 9509 and a MDS 9120 that were running 3.3.1 code.  One thing that did make my heart stop for a second was when I went to look at the zonesets after the segmentation cleared up.  The zonesets were there, but the zones were gone!   Since my pager wasn't vibrating out of the holster, I reasoned that the zones were still there.   A quick look at the configs on the switches confirmed this.  What had happened, was that the switch that I removed was the seed switch for FM when it discovered the fabric.  To correct this I restarted FM and rediscovered the fabric using the "new" principal switch as the seed switch, and all of the zones were back were they were supposed to be.
Just for your piece of mind (read CYA), I recommend opening a TAC case just to have them look over your configs and make any recommendations.  In our case, we had to remove IVR from one of our switches and the engineer pointed out a bug that can occur when removing IVR, and a work around for this bug.
Sorry for the long post, but I hope that this information is helpful to someone else that has to do this.
