Switching from Virgin to BT. Never had a BT phone ...

Hi, I was just wondering what is involved in the switch over. We have phone sockets in the house, but as far as we know they have always been NTL/Virgin. We are worried that new wires would have to be run into the house, or is this all done on the outside?

you will need new external wiring and Openreach will fit a new master socket inside near were the wiring enters the house

  • My iohone5 signals incoming call. Then, immediately Blocked Call is displayed! With no further information re caller.  I have just switched from iPhone 4 and never had experience with Blocked Call! Message . How can I at least find out who or what blocked

MY iPhone 5 keeps blocking incoming phone calls with a message "call blocked" there is no addition information on who/what is being blocked or why. I have just transitioned from iPhone 4 to 5 and never had this happen before.  Does anyone else have this problem? How does one find out what/who is being blocked?

If a user has blocked their caller ID there's nothing you can do but either answer the call or don't.
This is NOT a problem, this is how blocked calling works.

  • Switching from Virgin Media..

Hey, I'm switching from Virgin Media very soon because of their dreadful customer service and looking around BT Infinity is in my area so i thought why not. But the reason why im posting is that I've been on NTL/Virgin Media for about 8 Years, but before that i had a BT phoneline.
When i got in contact with somoneone at a BT Call centre they said I would have to pay a £130 fee to change my line BACK to BT, i told them i used to be a BT customer but they said I still have to pay the full amount. Seeing as I've been a BT customer in the past, does that make my line still BT? I really dont want to have to fork out £130 at this time of the year.
TL;DR - Been a former BT customer but currently on Virgin Media, switching back to BT for Infinity Broadband and not sure if i have to pay the BT Line installation fee.
    Thanks alot in advance

have you contacted the sales team, to find out if they can do you a special offer?
you will be safe and secure with Bt's call centre, as it is in India, and their dedicated staff are not permitted to deviate from their scripted diagnoses, so although slow, they will get to solve any  problem when it arises.
welcome to the world of last wednesday week.

  • Switching from Virgin Media to BT

    Hello
I've been a BT landline customer for over 20 years but my internet providor has always been NTL and then Virgin through cable. I would have chose ADSL but for years when performing speed checks I was only able to reach 4-8MB, apparently due to poor telephone lines. I think BT said I would have to pay if I wanted new lines put in but I cannot remember.
I would like to switch from my 50MB (recently upgraded to 100MB) to BT Infinity2. When entering my phone number it says I can get 48.8MB. I would like to know more information about this.
    1. Would BT install a fibre line for me without charge? Would/could they use the existing cable line in my house by NTL/Virgin?
    2. I already have a landline tariff but when selecting a package for broadband it says I must pay an addition 12.50 for a telephone line.
    3. If Infinity2 is not using telephone lines why would one need to buy a telephone line/pay for line rental anyway?
    4. I am utterly annoyed with Virgin Media forcing us to use their Superhub routers - the coaxial cable plugs straight into the router and the routers firmware is appalling. I would prefer, although not necessary, to use my own router. Would this be possible? If so, what type of router would I be looking for? For virgin, it was a "cable modem router".
    5. If BT install their own lines, would they still need the 'MAC address' from virgin? I saw this written in the "switching to" articles and I first assumed this meant that it was possible but to use existing virgin media lines for BT, until I realised that MAC addresses are needed to switch between providors on ADSL lines
    6. What type of support does BT provide for its infinity2 customers? Are the call centres in the UK? Is the support line a chargable call?
    7. I'm wondering out of curiousity, can consumers on infinity2 get rDNS or buy additional IP addresses?
Apologies for the mundane questions and many thanks in advance.

I would like to know more information about this. ***The actual speed that you get with Infinity is dependant on a number of issues including distance to you local cabinet and line quality. The BT estimate is usually quite conservative***
    1. Would BT install a fibre line for me without charge? Would/could they use the existing cable line in my house by NTL/Virgin? ***The NTL/Virgin coax cable would not be used, it would use the existing BT line that you've mentioned***

    3. If Infinity2 is not using telephone lines why would one need to buy a telephone line/pay for line rental anyway? ***For BT Infinity a BT phone line is a mandatory part of the product offering***

I would prefer, although not necessary, to use my own router. Would this be possible? If so, what type of router would I be looking for? For virgin, it was a "cable modem router". ***You can use any standard cable router that supports PPPoE, but BT do supply a wireless router called the Home Hub 3 which is fine for most people if perhaps not the most feature rich of devices***
    5. If BT install their own lines, would they still need the 'MAC address' from virgin? 6. What type of support does BT provide for its infinity2 customers? Are the call centres in the UK? Is the support line a chargeable call? ***BT use overseas call centres, which I would have to say are the weakest part of the offering***
    7. I'm wondering out of curiosity, can consumers on infinity2 get rDNS or buy additional IP addresses?
***There is no static IP Address offering for infinity, but Dynamic DNS does work fine***
Apologies for the mundane questions and many thanks in advance.
See answers in line, and bear in mind the following...
There are two possible technology types for Infinity- Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) & Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) and it looks like your area uses the latter.  in this case you are still using the existing BT copper telephone cable to your house, but new larger green cabinets will have been installed locally which your phone line will be connected to. These cabinets are then connected back to the exchange using fibre optic cable the fact that the distance to the cabinet is much shorter than the exchange means that much high speeds can be obtained in conjunction with the fact that the technology is VDSL rather than ADSL

  • Switching from Virgin email to BT Yahoo email acco...

We have recently switched over to BT Total Vision - but we are still paying Virgin broadband subscription too. I use the Internet all day for my business using a Virgin email account but now I obviously need to switch to a BT Yahoo email.
My husband's name is on the bill and he has registered his own BT Yahoo account but can't find out how to add an email account for me. Does anyone know how I can add my email address ?
We have received some info from BT on True Switch about transferring emails - which seems to cost £19.95 but I daren't close down the virgin account until I've sorted out the emails.
I already have my own Yahoo email, just to complicate things.

your husband needs to sign in to his bt account and then manage account and then set up sub account.  you will then get a btinternet.com address and your own password

  • Switching from Virgin

I am very tempted to switch to BT Broadband but the one thing which has prevented me is having to change my @virgin.net email addresses. I have been informed by BT sales that it is possible to switch to BT Broadband and retain my @virgin.net email addresses. I have done some searching but can find nothing to confirm this. My question is two-fold:
    1. Can I switch to BT Broadband and retain my @virgin.net email addresses?
    2. If I can switch and retain my @virgin.net email addresses, how do I access my webmail?
Any informed advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Your questions have been answered, but it might also be worth considering an email client to send, fetch and store messages on your computer; once set up, many find it more convenient than webmail. Thunderbird is a popular free program and is frequently recommended in these forums.

  • Switching from Virgin to BT

i have recently got infinity availiblity in my area, confirmed by a big sticker on the green box down the street.
I plan on upgrading to BT as i feel virgin simply do not offer what BT does.
So i rang BT and they said i need a MAC, i ring Virgin and they say it should come within 5 days (rang them on Saturday)
ive been reading online and people say that i shouldn't trust BT to completely switch me over, because the guy on the phone said once i have the mac code they'll take care of the rest. They say i should ring up Virgin and tell them im leaving them and confirm all that stuff before i call BT to switch as many people keep getting charged.
So how should i go about transferring once this MAC code arrives? and how long does the BT engineer take? the first guy said 11 days and the second said 3 weeks?.

two months of no internet is unnaceptable, i would curl up and die. Not to mention i would probably take a open reach engineer hostage and make him install it. JK JK JK
Oh and should i not bother with that  £50 sainsburies voucher? i hear its simply a scam and you probably wont end up getting the code.

  • HT1338 Do I have to reinstall my print drivers after upgrading to 10.8? I seem to have lost both my printers and my ability to download from my camera. Never had problems with 10.7. I'm a little scared.

Do I have to reinstall my printer drivers after upgrading to 10.8? I seem to have lost the ability to communicate with either of 2 wireless printers and to download pictures from my camera. (Photoshop keeps telling me it can't find the device.) Any suggestions?

Have you repaired permissions and restarted your computer after installing ML?  Checked your printer settings in System Preferences?
If Software Update does not list any updated drivers for your model printer, you should go to the printer's manufacturer website and download the drivers from there and/or contact their tech support to determine if your printer is compatible w/ML.
Read the various Knowledge Base ML printing articles.  Here are a few to get you started:
OS X Mountain Lion: If the software for your printer can’t be found
OS X Mountain Lion: Troubleshoot a USB printer
OS X Mountain Lion: Troubleshoot an AirPort printer
If none of the above work, post back w/the model of your printer and how it's connected to your computer.  USB?  Wireless?

  • Looking to switch from Virgin Media to BT but need...

My new built house has an XNTE situated at the front of the house so have no ideal where the "master socket" will go.  In the house there are about 6 phone plugs each square and mirror finished.  Currently the VM router is in first floor lounge to the front (large 3 story house) and this lounge is rarely used for tv, gaming etc...Ideally I would like the BT router in my rear ground floor extention where most of the BT tv will be watched and so my PS3, Wii U get direct etherent connection to the BT hub.  Problem is if wired from the front XNTE, externally via the wall would need about 20-25 metres of cabling- not ideal is it?
I'm looking to get Bt infinity 2 with 76meg.
A compromise would be having the router same locale as the VM router on first floor lounge and have the BT vision box downstairs connected via powerline adaptors whilst also connected to the PS3, Wii U.  Currently I get half the speeds via powerline adaptor to the actual full speed when connected directly, which is 30 and 60 meg.  Would this setup give me sufficient speeds for online gaming, watching HD content via BT's broadband.
Could someone give me advice on which setup is best or if it doesn't matter(bear in mind I want the best speeds for Bt tv, Ps3) :-
-router first floor with downstairs, powerline plug connects BT Vision, PS3 and Wii U,
-router ground floor connected to BT Vision, PS3, Wii U with powerline plugs upstairs for wi-fi, pc...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The Openreach engineer may/will just bypass the xNTE and fit a new master socket. He should fit this where you want. It may be possible to turn one of your phone sockets into the new master socket. Obviously you will need to discuss the best options with the engineer.
If the modem can not be installed in the extension room and you are prepared to run Ethernet cable outside using CAT6 you will not get any drop in speed up to 100 meters so you could have your Homehub router in your ground floor extension. This would be a better option than powerline adaptors, which as you have found do loose speed.
If you have to use Powerline adaptors then make sure they are at least the 500Mbps ones and preferably 1Gbps one.

  • Switching from my old phone back to my new one. Keeping Unlimited.

A little over a week ago I switched from my LG G2 that had a unlimited data plan over to my old Galaxy Nexus. I switched phones because I was worried I was going to damage my G2  and needed something I wouldn’t mind breaking. However now that I want to switch back to the LG G2 I was using its asking me for another plan. I don't want another plan I want to keep the one I am using. It let me switch phones once without incident and now its asking for a switch. I've already gone through chat and was told I could keep my plan and no issue would come through it if I dialled customer service. Now that I dialled *611 its not letting me do so. I got the run around and this is total **.

Hello rexthehuman. I'm sorry you are having problems switching back to your LG G2 without changing your plan. If you originally purchased the LG G2 without a discount on the line you have it activated on, then you would not be able to keep your unlimited data. If you purchased the LG G2 by using a different line or through our Device payment plan, you will be able to keep the unlimited data. If you have not been able to have this corrected, please respond to my follow request and send me a direct message.

  • Switching from PC: say hello to my new iMac

    Hi,
Well, I will be a Mac user in another few days. I ordered my 17" iMac core duo yesterday and am expecting it to be delivered on Wednesday (That was pretty quick, considering the fact that the initial delivery date estimated was Feb 22). I am switching from Windows, I've never used a Mac, but i guess I will be comfortable as my Work platform is Unix (although I telnet from a windows PC). I have used Linux before, so I'm expecting a similar rock solid OS, perhaps better with all the UI effects. Hopefully, everything will be ok and I will not have all those Rev A complaints that I read on this forum. I will post on this more, after I receive my new iMac.

Sounds great. I got my iMac a few weeks ago and it has been a blast to use it. OSX is simply amazing and the included iLife software is great too. After I get a new Windows computer, I would have to install various programs. Media software, antivirus, antispyware, adobe reader, etc. With the iMac, you turn it on, fill out some forms, and it's ready to go.

Have you confirmed that you successfull purged iTunes Match by also looking on an iOS device?  If so, keep in mind that Apple's servers may be experiencing a heavy load right now.  They just added about 19 countries to the service and I've read a few accounts this morning that suggests all's not running perfectly right now.
