Switching Video Standard?

Hi all,
I'm using iMovie with my Canon Rebel T1i Camera for videos. The T1i records movies at 720p resolution with 30 fps. I've so far created many projects and all look good. However, I just discovered that I had PAL - 25 FPS chosen as "Video Standard" in iMovie preferences (in the video tab). I would like to switch this to NTSC - 30 FPS. However, by choosing this setting all my current projects are now messed up, i.e., the starts and ends of the video clips are now different in the project because of the changed frame rate.
Can I somehow make the change to NTSC without messing up my current projects? Can I somehow set the Video Standard individually for each project? I would really like to switch to 30 FPS for smoother playback, but I do not want to mess up all my existing projects :-/
Many thanks and all the best,
Michael

.. now all the clips in my projects are wrong, i.e., They start too early and end too soon. I think - as you say - iMovie now interprets my event data as 30 FPS instead of 25 FPS which causes a shift of the clip boundaries for my project.
hmmm.. not here.. but, to be honest, my few NTSC Projects are very short (just some 'tests') .. hard to tell, if anything gets out of sync, when I switch back to my PAL projects..
and, as I mentioned above: when you ctrl-click on any of your Event clips/choose 'Reveal in Finder', you'll notice, that the correspoding .mov are 'hardcoded' to 25 (if iM is set to 25), or 29.97 (if iM is set to 29.97...). -
.. If I re-import my event data, won't that cause all projects to lose their references to the event data?
that is the sad truth..
but 'forcing' a video standard conversion (=the underlying QTengine don't just downsamples framerates, it is a conversion) doesn't add any quality.. rule#1 in video: stay in your format (NTSC/PAL)..

  • Dynamic streaming taking too long time to switch video using NetStreamPlayOptions in AS3

    Hi,
Can any one tell me why dynamic streaming taking too much time to switch video from lower bit rate to higher bit rate and vice versa.
I am doing dynamic streaming in following ways -
    var param:NetStreamPlayOptions = new NetStreamPlayOptions();
    param.oldStreamName=oldStream();
    param.streamName=newStream()
    param.transition=NetStreamPlayTransitions.SWITCH;
    ns.play2(param);
    ns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, switchMode);
I am using duel buffering and that is 3 seconds when video starts and 10 seconds when "NetStream.Buffer.Full". Video taking approximately 30-50 seconds to switch video and when I am calling the above code.
    Thanks & regards
    Sunil Kumar

    Hi Sunil,
Was my link useful to you? If you have not gone through the link which I suggested just go through the below lines it may help you:
For a faster switch with optimal keyframe interval and client-side buffer, when Flash Media Server (FMS) receives a "switch" command, the server waits for a keyframe to switch to the new stream. FMS looks for the keyframes in the new stream in chunks equal to the client's buffer size(NetStream.bufferTime), so having a client buffer larger than the keyframe interval of the stream would help with a fast switch response time from the server—in other words, a shorter delay between a "switch" call to the server and the client receiving bits from the new stream in response.
Following values are considered most optimal:
    Keyframe interval: 5 sec.
    Client-side buffer: 6–10 sec.
So to maintain optimal keyframe interval you can go for fresh encoding of your videos which will give you a chance to set keyframe interval or if you dont want to do this then I would suggest you to increase the client-side buffer.

Switched video settings on my Mac Mini and now the bloody thing shows "Invalid Format" on my TV (used as monitor for years) and I cannot get it to switch back.
What can I do to get it to work again as more than an overpriced paperweight?

    Hello,
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), see if you can set a good resolution.

  • Opensource ATI can't switch video modes with CTRL+ALT+plus/minus

    Hi,
I've updated my system to the new xorg-server and video driver.
The new video driver (xf86-video-ati-6.7.195-1) can't switch video modes with the CTRL+ALT+plus/minus key combination. I use this key combination a lot and before I upgraded to the new driver this worked :-(
    Anybody else having this problem?
I know I can use xrandr to change the video mode, but it doesn't exactly do what I want. Xrandr changes the video mode, but also changes the resolution of the screen, while CTRL+ALT+plus/minus keeps the resolution intact (the screensize is bigger than what is seen on the monitor, you can scroll the screen by moving the mouse "out" of the monitor)
Is there a fix/patch that I can try?

It looks like this is the result of the new opensource ati drivers use the new xrandr.
One of the changes is that it will treat the screen section in xorg.conf differently. Browsing through video modes, using the CTRL+ALT+plus/minus key combination, that are defined in the screen section in xorg.conf is not possible anymore.

Can't switch video to photo in iPad 2.  Can anyone help?

How are you trying to change to Video mode ? You should be able to do it by swiping/dragging the Video / Photo / Square options so the Video lines up with the yellow dot to their left - is that how you are trying to do it ?

  • How to switch video angle ? I can only seem to switch audio

I created a 2 angle multiclip. I synchronized it using In-Points. Everything seems to work in the viewer (both angles advance in synch). I set Multiclip playback with unlimited RT and just RT.
I can ealily switch the selected audio (green outline) but I can't seem to switch the video angle (the blue outline always stays on angle 1).
I tried switching using the keyboard shortcut or buttons added to the button bar in my timeline. The green outline swtiches to angle 2 in the viewer even when I click the switch video angle button (same behavior as the switch audio to Angle 2 button or keyboard shortcut) then, when I click the switch video to angle 1 button, the green outline swtiches back to angle 1 (same as switch audio to angle 1).
Finally, if I select the timeline and try to switch video to angle 2 the system beeps, but everything works great on the audio side in the timeline (easily switching from angle 1 to 2 and back to one using the audio switch button.
    I am using FCP 5.0.4.

  • What is the impact if we switch from standard costing to actual costing?

    Hi all,
what is the impact if we switch from standard costing to actual costing?
what are the changes is needed in costing?
    thanks.

    Hello,
Its an nice idea to switch from standard to actual costing. It would be advisable to make this switch over happen in a new period praferably with a new year. You would need to carry out the settings for material ledger / actual costing and for the accounting settings you may refer to sap note 908737.
Not much costing changes would be necessary to the existing configuration but you would need to activate material ledger and allign your Inventory accordingly. The settings for ML would be relatively simple but the main problem would be handling the inventory that you already have in stock. You would also need to have a proper closing procedure followed by next month's planning approach which would actualise the inventory at the end of the month and decide the methodology for next month's plan valuation. It  should be kept in mind for configuring ML.
The closing sequence would be as under:
    1. Complete all Cost Center and production order postings.
    2. Complete all Cost center Assessment / Distribution
    3. Calculate Actual rate
    4. Revaluate production orders
    5. Calculate WIP
    6. Settle Production Order
    7. Run Costing Run (CKMLCP)
Material ledger is capable of actualising activity costs and WIP as well and you should configure it according to your need.
You can follow the standard SAP documentations for configurations + Note 908737 for configuring ML.
    Kind Regards // Shaubhik

  • Changing video standards

Is there a way to change video standards in a project (PAL->NTSC) without having to rebuild the entire project from scratch?
I've created a DVD Studio Pro project with the disk's video standard set to PAL for European use. It contains a couple dozen video assets, links, buttons, &c.
I'd like to change/copy the project to NTSC.
Changing the video standard in the project's info pane results in an error msg saying that the standard can't be changed with video assets in the project.
Removing the assets from the assets pane results in an error that the video is still in use by the project.
    Thanks in advance!
    Scott

    Nope!
You must re-encode your assets to NTSC format: videos, menu grahics/backgrounds, etc and reauthor in a new DVDSP NTSC project.
    Hope that helps !

  • Switch to standard time from daylight saving causes error - iOS 7

    Hi there,
Today (27-Oct-2013) the time was switched back from daylight saving to standard. When looking my iPhone, I noticed that although the clock correctly displays the current time, the standard weather app still uses the time according to daylight saving (i.e. showing one hour ahead) and what is more interesting, the calendar acts weirdly, showing the correct time, but placing it in the old daylight saving time, i.e. 7:46 AM is shown as a line between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM! It is really ridiculous and it seems I cannot change these. I restarted my iphone, turned off and on again using carrier provided time, but nothing changed. Any clues?
Using iPhone 5 and iOS 7.0.2.
    Any help is appreciated.

Problems with time, time zones have been quite common. Clearly, my brand new, the most forward thinking smartphone has the same bug. Sometimes I wonder why Apple is unable to get basic things work? they simply don't care, that's all.
Issue with the line materializes itself on my iCal on iMac as well
I hope, at least alarm will go off at the right time Monday morning
BTW:  last year when I was on trip to Chile, at one night - suddenly - out of the blue - time changed on all our apple devices.. it's bad when you've got your flight next day and don't know when to wake up weeks later I have found out information Apple did not update their list of timezone changing dates.. for couple of years...

  • KM Switch (Video not needed) or software solution

*Short version* - I need a USB switch that will allow me to share just my keyboard and mouse with my 3 PCs. Anyone know of one that works good and has that "sniffing" feature as to reduce any USB delay. I tried a 4 port Belkin USB switch, but it wasn't good. I want a KM only hardware or software solution that is convenient and supports my mouse's back button and does not have scrolling issues.
    Thanks for any input...
*More details* - I have a monitor on my mac and a monitor on my xp machine. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a 4 port, DVI, USB KVM switch. I already have a 4 port PS/2 KVM switch and I am using it for my windows PCs. I am only using the video from it to switch between the windows PCs. I just want to be able to use my Mac keyboard and mouse (logitech) on all my PCs. I first tried using RDP, but I was not able to use the back button and had some scrolling issues that were unacceptable. Next I decided I would buy a Belkin 4 port USB switch. I just returned it because besides being a bad solution, the mouse locked up continuously. I then tried using KMremoteControl, but I am having trouble getting the license to activate (I emailed the company). From what I understand it is a free program, but they still sell it? Not sure what thats all about, but that also does not allow the back function on my mouse. Basically the best thing is for me to unplug the keyboard and plug it into each computer as I use it. Does anyone know of a good switch, so I don't have to do that? One that is compatible with windows of coarse and has a simple method of switching. The Mac usb extension cable was also incompatible with the Belking switch. Not sure why apple makes such a short cable in the first place.
For anyone who has read this, thank you, I appreciate it.

I have figured out why KMremote was not activating. I installed wireshark to sniff the network and I noticed some DNS issues during the activation process. For some reason it didnt like using my Linksys router as a DNS forwarder. I added the direct comcast DNS entries and it now works. I still dont have the back button on my mouse, but this is the best solution.
Thanks and hopefully this can help someone else.

  • Switching video source for live video streaming

Is it possible to switch the video source from a video
capture card to a standalone video during live video streaming? We
are streaming live TV and we want to skip playing any
    advertisements.
If this is not possible, what is the best way skip playing
any advertisements? Do we have to do it at the client player level
i.e. catch an event from the video player and play a predefined
video when the live video stream is stopped?

Thanks for reporting your fix. That news could be very important to those who delete events from their hard drive to save space, but may want to reload them later to do some editing.
It sounds like the key is re-importing with exactly the same name as before.
Just curious: What kind of camcorder? Was it MiniDV tape? Flash? Hard drive? DVD?
It strikes me that with tape it might be difficult to reimport an exact match. If you start on a different frame, the pointers could be off. But if that is not the case, it is very good news.

  • Switching video from widescreen to fullscreen...

It says quite clearly here: http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features.html#video
+"Turn your iPod Touch to switch between widescreen and fullscreen".+
But you can't do this with videos played from the video section of the main screen (only with videos launched via Safari). A bit misleading, and rather disappointing to find that I cannot watch videos while my iPod is docked.

  • ITU Approves H.265 Video Standard

"A new video coding standard building on the ITU-T H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC and opening the door to future video transmission using only half the bandwidth was agreed by ITU members on Friday.
The new standard, known informally as - High Efficiency Video Coding - (HEVC) will need only half the bit rate of  its predecessor, ITU-T H.264 / MPEG-4 Part 10 - Advanced  Video Coding - (AVC), which currently accounts for over 80  per cent of all web video.
The ITU/ISO/IEC Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding  (JCT-VC) (formerly JVT) will continue work on a range of  extensions to HEVC, including support for 12-bit video as  well as 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 chroma formats."
    http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/News/Details.aspx?NewsId=35575
I eagerly await the day we get affordable cameras recording 12 bit, 4:2:2 to SDXC cards.

Yes, H.265 will usher in 4k (Ultra HD).
That's what I was getting at about Blu-ray disc. The only way the studios can pack a 4k movie and features on a Blu-ray is with a codec that can use less bandwidth than H.264/MPEG-2. Current players don't support larger BDXL discs like 100-128GB (as far as I know), so if they want to sell people 4k BDs the only way they can do that is to update the spec. And believe me they want to sell people 4k Blu-rays. BDs are the last physical media and they aren't going to miss an opportunity to sell you more BD players, new movies on BD, and of course the Godfather, Star Wars sagas, et al in 4k. And conveniently the board of directors of the Blu-ray Disc Association includes all of the major movie studios. So, in short, H.265 Blu-ray is inevitable because the BD Association wants to sell more BDs and has to upgrade the spec to do so. And because as ebusinessmedia pointed out, they can. From what I've read they've already been considering this for sometime now.
Incidentally, H.265 is also the best bet for television services providers being able to deliver broadcast 4k content because of the lower bandwidth as well.
Long live H.265...or at least until H.266.

  • Switching Video Angle in the Viewer ... not working.

OK, I am stumped... I usually do my music videos in Avid but today it's FCP! I've made a multiclip with my 21 angles, and add edits and switch the angle just fine in the timeline. I've mapped my switch to previous and next video angle to / and * on the keypad, and they work fine in the timeline. But in the viewer, the multiclip will not switch. Neither with these mapped keys or the button in the button bar. I can put the 'switch to video angle 3' in the button bar and that works but not the 'switch to next.' I could have sworn this worked before.... and I can't imagine not being able to switch a multiclip an angle at a time. Confused!

I remember reading that last year when Patrick wrote it. I think when apple built the multiclip function they were working not with music videos in mind. And with that said there have always been issues with Aux timecode working properly.
    1. Edls dont work properly
I experienced this on my current mv edit. I posted about that one here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3278117#3278117
This is the scariest thing. That is why I ALWAYS choose Avid for music videos but on this one I didn't have the choice.
    2. you can't sync up takes if they don't overlap
This is what aux timecode is for. Unfortunately you can't assign aux code to a subclip without it rippling the changes through them all. Workaround is to capture each take as a master clips. Makes capturing take a lot longer, especially from a deck with a slow tape transport.
Conclusion - edit music vids in avid
    Amen!
