Sybase Temporary tables Property

Hi,
Please let me know that what is the by default property of the temporary table created in Sybase .
For example in Oracle it is ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS.
Also, are they once created and can be used permanently ? or they are droped by their own.
Please advice

You probably should goto Sybase website and ask the question in Sybase forum.

  • Temporary Table/Cursor Problem

    I am in the process of migrating a bunch of Sybase stored procedures to Oracle. In several of them, I am using Sybase temporary tables to store data and use it in the where clause of later select statements. I thought that possibly Oracle cursor or ref cursors could do the job, but I'm having trouble getting anything to work right. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Here is an example of what I'm working with...
    -- This is what was formerly being kept in a
    -- Sybase temporary table
    OPEN c_temp_best_offers FOR
    SELECT
    request.request_id,
    proposal.originator_request_id,
    proposal.target_request_id,
    proposal.price,
    proposal.date_submitted
    FROM
    request,
    proposal,
    request_type
    WHERE
    request.request_type_id = request_type.request_type_id AND
    request.request_id = proposal.originator_request_id AND
    request_type.matching_request_type_id = v_my_request_type_id
    Now I need to somehow use that data in the from and where clauses of a select statement. Any help will be much appreciated.
    AJ

    That does help very much, thanks a lot!
    However, one question remains. What if the data you named 'ss1' needs to be used in another select statement later in the stored procedure. It would appear that I would have to use that parenthesized select statement form again. Is there a more efficient way to handle that? Again, thanks for your help thus far, it is greatly appreciated...

  • How create temporary table from list of values

    Can you anybody advise me how can I create temporary table from list of values? I have list of values and need create temporary table for next use with command JOIN etc.
    Thank you for help

    NO, you can not create temporary table in oracle on the fly ( Like #Tabels in SQl Server or Sybase ) , you will have to use the GTT i.e Global Temporary Tables
    check the following link GTT :
    to flush the tables after commit
    CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE my_temp_table (
      column1  NUMBER,
      column2  NUMBER
    ) ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS;In contrast, the ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS clause indicates that rows should be preserved until the end of the session.
    so to keep rows in Table after commit
    CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE my_temp_table (
      column1  NUMBER,
      column2  NUMBER
    ) ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS;

  • Creating and Dropping a temporary table in Bi publisher?

    Hi all.
    My database is sybase.
    I created a new data set in BI publisher where it creates a temporary table,
    uses that temp table in a select query and then I dropped the temporary table.
    I wrote all these 3 SQL statements in a single dataset.
    This is executed for the first time with out any errors.
    The second time I am tryiong to run the report..It says It cannot create temp table as it has one temp table with the same name.
    When I execute the same query in my database (SQL developer) this works. But not working in BI publisher.
    Please suggest.

    I came across this thread...in this forum while looking for a solution..
    Can i create temporary table with BI Publisher ?
    If we have to use a data template...Does the function in data trigger necessarily needs to be a PL/SQL function? because..we donot use oracle database. we use T-SQL to write queries..

  • What to fill in "temp table scope" for global temporary tables?

    Hi,
    I'm using Data Modeler 4.0.1.836 and whatever I put in the "temp table scope" box for a global temporary table doesn't seem to affect the DDL script regarding the ON COMMIT PRESERVE/DELETE ROWS option. The script always shows ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS no matter what.
    Yet, some of my temporary tables must be created as ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS.
    The Data Modeler help says the following about this :
    Temp Table Scope:
    For a table classified as Temporary, you can specify a scope, such as Session or Dimension.
    Not sure what "Dimension" has to do with the scope here, but it doesn't make any difference.
    I tried putting "Session", "Dimension", "Transaction", but no luck. So what's the text to put for the script to generate ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    The Temporary Table Scope property (on the Classification Types page of the Table Properties dialog) is purely documentary.
    To set ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS you should expand the Browser node for the Relational Model and look for the node for the relevant Oracle Physical Model.  If you expand this you will find an entry there for your Table. Double-click on this to get the Physical Model properties dialog for your table, and you will find a "Temporary"  property which has options YES (Preserve Rows), YES (Delete Rows) or NO.

  • Using Temporary Table in SSIS

    I have a dataflow task which puts the result in a temporary table. I want to put the table result in a flat file but is not able to do that. Can anyone help?
    Here is the sql code
    use adventureworks2008r2
    declare @totalcount as float
    declare @addcount as float
    declare @citycount as float
    declare @addperct as float
    declare @cityperct as float
    declare @temp table (name varchar (40), percentage float)
    set @totalcount = (select count(*)from person.Address)
    set @addcount = (select COUNT (*)from person.Address where AddressLine2 = null)
    set @citycount = (select COUNT (*) from person.Address where City is not null )
    set @addperct = 100*(@addcount/@totalcount)
    set @cityperct = 100*(@citycount/@totalcount)
    insert into @temp
    select 'Addressline2',ROUND (@addperct,2)
    insert into @temp
    select 'City',ROUND (@CITYPERCT,2)
    SELECT * FROM @temp

    What you're using is table variable and not temporary table. It will be out of scope outside batch so you cant use it anywhere after code.
    I think if you want to use it in further tasks you should use temporary tables (# tables) after setting RetainSameConnection property to true.

  • Deadlock with CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE

    I got this error
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-00060: deadlock detected while waiting for resource
    while trying to create global temporary table.
    Table creation command:
    CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE ITUSER.T_0091FBDG ("GOD" char(4) DEFAULT (' ') NOT NULL,"UNKUM" number(10,0) DEFAULT (0) NOT NULL,[a lot of other fields]) ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS
    There is no outer references in command. So does somebody know where does deadlock come from?
    I'm using Oracle 10g.

  • 8i Temporary Tables

    Using the Workbench to convert a Sybase 11 application to 8i, I've seen all the Oracle temporary tables created as "... on commit preserve rows". But we want the temps to only have transaction duration rather than session. Is there any way to tweak the tool to create temporary tables as "... on commit delete rows"?

    I had used the Migration Workbench against
    MS SQL Server 7.0. to migrate to Oracle 8.1.6.
    All the temp tables created in T-SQL stored
    procedures where converted in permanent tables.
    So not even the Oracle 8i temp tables session
    based were created as clamined by the author
    of this thread.
    My question is there a option to create temp tables (session based) for all the temp tables created via T-SQL.

    I am trying to create a view using a global temporary table Odyssey.HMSg_ReportGeneral :
    create or replace view Odyssey.av_hms_TmpTbl_rpt_ClsGndr4dtsSub1
    as select nvl(p.Gender,'Either') gender, bldg.Building Bldg, bldg.Site_Name Parent1, bldg.Room_Name name,
    bldg.Building_Name Parent2, bldg.facility_sk_fk facility_sk, nvl(pc.Class,'Unspecified') Class, p.patron_sk,
    count(t1.Patron_SK_FK) NumOccupants, nvl(pc.listing_order,0) ListOrd
    from Odyssey.HMSg_ReportGeneral g,Odyssey.av_hms_rpt_ThisAssignmentLevel fa3
    join Odyssey.av_hms_rpt_FacilityStructure bldg on(bldg.facility_sk_fk = fa3.facility_sk_FK and
    (bldg.effectivedate is null or(bldg.effectivedate <= g.Date2 and(bldg.enddate is null or
    bldg.enddate >= g.Date2)))) left outer join Odyssey.av_hms_rpt_NumOccupantsNoCount t1
    on(t1.Facility_SK = bldg.facility_sk_fk and
    (t1.elementstart is null or(t1.elementstart <= g.date2 and(t1.elementend is null or
    t1.elementend >= g.date2)))) left outer join Odyssey.csdp_patron p
    on(p.patron_SK = t1.patron_SK_FK) left outer join Odyssey.av_hms_rpt_PatronClass pc
    on(pc.Patron_SK_FK = t1.Patron_SK_FK and(pc.effectivedate is null or (pc.effectivedate <=
    g.date2 and(pc.enddate is null or pc.enddate >= g.date2))))
    where fa3.effectivedate is null or(fa3.effectivedate <= g.Date1 and(fa3.enddate is null or fa3.enddate >= g.Date1))
    group by bldg.Site_Name, bldg.Building_Name,bldg.Building, pc.Class, pc.listing_order, p.patron_sk, p.Gender,
    bldg.facility_sk_fk, bldg.Room_Name
    I get an error :
    ORA-00904: "G"."DATE2": invalid identifier
    If I removed all references to the global temporary table,
    the view compiles fine - references to any of the columns in the temporary table give the ORA-00904.
    Any suggestions ?
    (FYI we are converting a database from Sybase to Oracle and have almost 20 views like this)
    Thanks for the help

    Hi
    After some test following I got following code to compile.
    create or replace view Odyssey.hms_TmpTbl_rpt_ClsGndr4dtsSub1 as

            bldg.Building_Name,
            bldg.Building,
            pc.Class,
            pc.listing_order,
            p.patron_sk,
            p.Gender,
            bldg.facility_sk_fk,
            bldg.Room_NameI think you can't mix old and new type of writing
    you have to do the join
    between Odyssey.HMSg_ReportGeneral
    and Odyssey.av_hms_rpt_ThisAssignmentLevel
    to have Odyssey.HMSg_ReportGeneral in the join statement later on.

  • How to create and user Temporary Table ( Urgent Please )

    i want to use temporary table in Oracle, how can i use it in Stored procedure, Please explain it with any Example, Please also clear that If more then one user can access the same stored procedure then what will be behavior of Temporary table, is it manage for its session, i want to manage it on every session. when store procedure call temporary table create and when finish then demolished.

    It depends on what you mean by a temporary table. If you are coming form a Sybase/Sql Server background where you would do something like:
    SELECT * INTO #my_temp
    FROM some_table
    WHERE some_condition
    GO
    UPDATE #my_temp
    SET some_column = some_calculated_value
    GO
    SELECT *
    FROM #my_temp
    WHERE some_other_conditionthen you could use in-line views instead of the temporary table.
    SELECT col1,col2,some_calculated_value
    FROM (SELECT *
          FROM some_table
          WHERE some_condition)
    WHERE some_other_conditionYou should be able to do this directly in a stored procedure, as long as you have some way to process or return the result set.
    If your processing is so complex that you cannot do it in straight SQL (and remember, Oracle handles multi-table joins much better that Sybase and SQL Server), then you need to look at Global Temporary Tables.
    You would declare a Global Temporary Table outside of the stored procedure (that is create it once and use it over and over), then use it in you stored proc just as you would a regular table. When you create the table, you have a choice of creating it as:
    ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS which means that any data you put in the table will persist for the length of your session, or
    ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS which will empty the table every time you issue a commit;
    The rows in the GTT are visible only to the session that put them there, and are removed when that session ends at the latest.

  • Temporary table within a package

    I'm not sure this is the best way to achieve it, but I'm trying to use a temporary table within my package, but I failed!
    In my package, my procedure do receive 5 different phone numbers (vTel1 to vTel5) and I need to order them, using data from a table. Also, if 2 of them are the same, I need only the one with the highest rank.
    Let say my TelOrder table look likes:
    Reason
    Tel1
    Tel2
    Tel3
    Tel4
    Tel5
    Reason1
    2
    3
    1
    5
    4
    Reason2
    1
    2
    null
    3
    4
    And I receive those variable
    vTel1='5141111111'
    vTel2=null
    vTel3='5143333333'
    vTel4='5141111111'
    vTel5='5145555555'
    vReason='Reason1'
    Using the Reason1, I need to be able to get the result looking like:
    RowNum
    Phone
    Order
    1
    5143333333
    1
    2
    5141111111
    2
    3
    5145555555
    4
    And I need this code to be apart from the procedure, cause many procedures will use the same code, and I don't want to abuse the ctrl+c, ctrl+v at each update.
    I've come close by using something like:
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE '
         INSERT INTO Table
         SELECT Rownum as RN, Ordre, contact_info, Contact_info_type
         FROM
           (SELECT a.contact_info, a.ordre, contact_info_type FROM
             (SELECT contact_info,min(ordre) as Ordre FROM
               (SELECT Tel1 as Ordre, ''' || vTel1 || ''' as contact_info, 1 as contact_info_type FROM TelOrder WHERE Reason=''' || vReason || '''
               UNION ALL
               SELECT Tel2 as Ordre, ''' || vTel2 || ''' as contact_info, 2 as contact_info_type FROM TelOrder WHERE Reason=''' || vReason || '''
               UNION ALL
               SELECT Tel3 as Ordre, ''' || vTel3 || ''' as contact_info, 4 as contact_info_type FROM TelOrder WHERE Reason=''' || vReason || '''
               UNION ALL
               SELECT Tel4 as Ordre, ''' || vTel4 || ''' as contact_info, 4 as contact_info_type FROM TelOrder WHERE Reason=''' || vReason || '''
               UNION ALL
               SELECT Tel5 as Ordre, ''' || vTel5 || ''' as contact_info, 1 as contact_info_type FROM TelOrder WHERE Reason=''' || vReason || '''
             WHERE Ordre is not null and contact_info is not null
             GROUP BY contact_info
             ) a
           JOIN
             (SELECT Tel1 as Ordre, ''' || vTel1 || ''' as contact_info, 1 as contact_info_type FROM TelOrder WHERE Reason=''' || vReason || '''
             UNION ALL
             SELECT Tel2 as Ordre, ''' || vTel2 || ''' as contact_info, 2 as contact_info_type FROM TelOrder WHERE Reason=''' || vReason || '''
             UNION ALL
             SELECT Tel3 as Ordre, ''' || vTel3 || ''' as contact_info, 4 as contact_info_type FROM TelOrder WHERE Reason=''' || vReason || '''
             UNION ALL
             SELECT Tel4 as Ordre, ''' || vTel4 || ''' as contact_info, 4 as contact_info_type FROM TelOrder WHERE Reason=''' || vReason || '''
             UNION ALL
             SELECT Tel5 as Ordre, ''' || vTel5 || ''' as contact_info, 1 as contact_info_type FROM TelOrder WHERE Reason=''' || vReason || '''
             ) b ON a.contact_info=b.contact_info AND a.ordre=b.ordre
           ORDER BY a.Ordre
    But when I try to remove this code and send it into another procedure/function, I can't make it work.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • Report: sorting of data and temporary table sorting

    We have a report that runs a procedure, which inserts data into a temporary table using the supplied parameters. The report then selects data from this table.
    Previously the report has always displayed data in the same order in which it was inserted into the table, even though no sorting is specified by the report itself. I realize that the report itself ought to specify the sorting in order to guarantee it, but this has worked in the past.
    As part of an application/Oracle upgrade the report has been recompiled. Data is now displayed in a different order as before. However, each time we run it now, it IS the same (new) sorting. So it's still consistent, but consistent in a different way than before.
    Is there some way to go back to the old sorting (display in same order as inserted into table) - without having to re-code this (and all the other) reports in order to specify the sorting? We think that data is still inserted into the temporary table in the same order as before. We are using the same version of Crystal Reports.

    Crystal Reports.This is the Oracle Reports forum.
    Anyway, I have seen this in one of our applications too. Suddenly the ordering was different, because there was no explicit order by. There is never a guarantee of the ordering if you do not specify it.
    You should ask this in the database forum too, since this is not really Reports related.

  • Use of global temporary tables in Procedures

    Hi
    I am using global temporary tables in the procedures. Loading data in the same table through many procedures. I am fetching the data from the global temporary table in PRO-C by a cursor. Will this degrade performance?
    Please help me..
    Thanks in Advance...

    Will this degrade performance?That depends... in comparison to what?
    Loading data into temporary tables will generally be more efficient than loading data into permanent tables because Oracle needs to do less to protect this data since it is inherently transient. On the other hand, loading the data into a table in the first place tends to be more expensive than alternatives like using a single SQL statement, a pipelined table function, or an in memory collection.

  • How to Use Temporary table on report builder

    Hi community!
    Well, i'm trying to build a temporary table based report in Oracle Report Builder. in "After Parameter Form Trigger" I've placed a stored procedure that populate a temporary table and I've based my report on it. The problem is Report shows no data. When i execute this procedure directly on database and i perform a select on my temporary table, it show all inserted data.
    I hope somebody can to help me because I tried many ways to build this report with my temporary table and always looks blank.

    Temporary tables are session specific.
    If particular session is closed then no data will be found on your temporary table in an another session.
    My suggestion is, on "After parameter form" trigger you directly populate the GTT without using procedure.
    Hope this will help.
