SYBASE user rights to modify datatbase content
Hi, I'm new with ZCM11.
My need is to update Serial Number and Asset Tag for computers, which has not written these numbers in BIOS memory.
ZCM Inventory doesn't let to edit them.
I tried to define triggers or modify any NC_WORKSTATION table content with ODBC but "zenadmin" cannot do it.
The error is:
08001(-98)[Sybase][ODBC Driver][SQL Anywhere]Authentication violation
The only user I found is "zenadmin", but this user has no rights to modify database content.
How to set proper rights to the user?
Or there is another user with rights to write/modify?
Or there is another way to modify these serial or asset tag numbers in ZCM?
The OEM Licensing of the Sybase Database is the reason for that error.
The ZCM code contains the licensing details to allow for the connection.
This is why your ODBC calls are not working.
DBISQL can be used to update the tables, but i'm not sure of a remote
way like ODBC without knowing how to get past the license restriction on
Sybase.

How to setup user's rights to modify Windows Firewall Rules?
I would like to have an account in my system that doesn't have any other administrative privileges besides rights to modify the Windows Firewall rules by means of Firewall API. How to setup a minimal set of rights for this account to do the task?
Right now what I see is that if I try to call INetFwRule::put_RemoteAddresses from an account without administrative privileges, the call fails with access denied. There is no means to find out access to what is needed. The call fails even if the process
is run under high integrity level.
I tried to setup global security audit, but there were no relevant events logged.
I tried to monitor the process with procmon, there were no any access denied events logged.
I tried to give the full access for this account to the correspondent registry keys. It didn't help.
I stepped firewallapi.dll in a debugger and found out that what fails is an RPC call to some COM interface proxy. I assumed that probably it is a remote call to some HNetCfg.FwRule method. I tried to add the user account to the HNetCfg.FwRule launch and
access permission ACLs in the DCOM configuration utility. It didn't help either.
Dear Microsoft, why did you do such a simple thing as settings user rights so difficult? Can you reveal the secret what rights and privileges I have to set?
Thanks in advance.
Dei nostra Matrix est.Here is what I found so far.
The firewall service calls RpcServerRegisterAuthInfo to setup RPC security from FwRpcAPIsRegisterAuthInfo. It happens during registration of RPC interfaces in FwRpcAPIsInterfaceCreate. FwRpcAPIsInterfaceCreate is called from FwRpcAPIsInitialize. And FwRpcAPIsInitialize
is used from FwServiceAsyncStartupRoutine.
After calling FwRpcAPIsRegisterAuthInfo function FwRpcAPIsInterfaceCreate calls ConvertStringSecurityDescriptorToSecurityDescriptor, which converts a textual description of a security descriptor to some binary form.
So my guess is that access rights are hard coded inside mpssvc.dll and what I have to do is just to find the textual representation of the correspondent descriptor.
I found 8 descriptors inside mpssvc.dll:
O:SYG:SYD:(A;;RCWD;;;BA)(A;;RCWD;;;NO)

I don't know yet which one corresponds to changing a firewall rule.

In our company there are some folks that require often new fonts that they take from the internet. Unfortunately, some of them have offices on in a diferrent country, so going there to insert my admin paswoord is not a solution.
If you copy the ttf file into the C:/Windows/Font folder is enough, you don't have to also add the registry.
One way to bypass the window that asks for admin credentials is to insert my crdentials into the bat file (runas). But this is very unsecure, as I am an administrator.
Is there a way to create a shared folder that can also store fonts that can be used by windows? Can I give them the right to modify files in this folder without making them administrators? Or do you see any solution to this issue? Any help would
be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.Another solution which will not compromise your security is to create a share folder and have the users to download fonts to the folder. After that a simple schedule task GPO on clients to copy the
*.ttf files from the folder to the C:\Windows\Fonts folder. Since tha task can be run by administrative privileges I guess there will be no problem.

Extended user rights and 500 users limits on a PDF Form
Hello,
I read that there's 500 users limits for using extended user rights on Acrobat Pro 9.
Here's my situation:
- I built an application PDF form with extended user rights for Adobe Reader users to save the form. And I'm going to be hosting it on the web for users to download the PDF form to their local hard drive.
- The form will have a button to submit to a web page with a script for processing FDF, XFDF, XML, or HTP form export.
My question is:
1. Would it be violating the 500 users limits if more than 500 users download the form and save the PDF after filling out fields, but not submit the data back to the server?
2. What would happen if more than 500 responses are received through above method? Would new visitors still be able to save the PDF form for their archive purpose after downloading it from our web site?
Thanks.Can Adobe's licensing department define "extract"? I know there is a lot of confusion here and I'm trying to understand.
Here is our scenario: We have developed an Adobe fillable form which we will be sending to 1000 customers. Customers can open the form (in Reader v9.5 and greater) and fill out the form, validate it and then print it. The customers are not sending the PDF files back to us and the PDF data is not being collected so there is no data we can extract from Adobe files (we are not that advanced yet). Customers will just print the information, then fax or send back to us by U.S. Mail.
When we receive the completed information (via fax/mail, not PDF), we read information off our form. Does Adobe consider reading our information “extracting” with our eyes? I’m not sure how they can consider that extracting? I would think Adobe owns the mechanism (aka PDF file) for validating our content, but they wouldn’t own the content on our form if we want to physically read it, right?
Adobe needs to clarify this more clearly and I’ve ready their interpretation of the Policy, but it doesn’t address this scenario. http://www.adobe.com/products/eulas/pdfs/Reader_Extension_Policy_A10-5-31-2011.pdf
George, I don't think you are an Adobe Employee. I see you are a MVP, but you are not officiall speaking for Adobe are you?

Archive directory user rights?
Hi all: I recently migrated our GW2014 SP1 server over to new hardware. The migration went smooth and our domain and postoffice seem happy. My users are reporting an 8201 error when starting up their client and I have traced it to a user rights issue with our archive folder on the server. I have given full rights to everyone as a temp measure, but I want to get the proper rights set up. BTW, the archive directory is on an NSS volume.
So, what are the proper user rights to the archive directory? Thanks much, Chris.Hi Chris,
They need Read, Write, File Scan, Create, Erase, Modify, Delete - all except Access Control and Supervisor.
Hope that helps.
Cheers, -
Enable User Rights in Adobe: how to always have that on?
I finally figured out why most PC users were not able to save any of the fields they filled out in my PDFs: I didn't know about the user rights feature.
Is there a way to always "Enable User Rights in Reader" to be turned on, so I don't have to remember to go the Advanced menu and select "Enable User Rights In Acrobat Reader" ?
Many thanks!> It took years, and years, and years of beging and pleading. And Adobe finally threw us a Bone.
Yes. And then poisioned it with this ridiculous and undecipherable license limitation.
> ...you would presumably know which users sent you a PDF that you enabled with Acrobat.
The mumbo-jumbo seems to assume the use of saveable forms is always for data collection, sent back to the form's creator. That is the use of
least interest to me.
For me, it's all about creating a design-intensive document
once (a placement ad or a marketing flyer or a spec sheet), adding a few simple boiler-plate fields to it for contact information, and sending it to my client, who then sends it to his dealers. Each dealer can then edit the contact info, save it, have it printed or placed in a newspaper, use it for trade show hand-outs.
How is the creator of such a document supposed to police the 500 "uses" limit? Who is liable when that limit is exceeded? What constitutes a single "use"? (I only used the file once. The client only used the file once. Each Dealer will
edit the form content once, but may have it printed in 501 local newspapers.)
The terms are unintelligible and probably unenforceable. This confusion has existed ever since Adobe finally threw the bone. The stupid paranoia poison just needs to be removed.

IRM / web services / check user rights to the document by login
Hellow,
How to check if user can read sealed document?
Sealing Server can be used to get Classification (Peeking http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/user.1111/e12326/isvsealedcontent001.htm#DAFHIHIH)
"The classification is used by the Oracle IRM Desktop to determine whether the *authenticated user* can access the sealed content".
How can I do the same if i know the login user name?Thanks!
My example
// get document context id
var sealedDoc = File.ReadAllBytes(_SealedFileName);
string contextId;
using (var srv = new SealingServicesClient())
srv.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = _ContextAdminName;
srv.ClientCredentials.UserName.Password = _ContextAdminPass;
var data = srv.Peek(sealedDoc);
contextId = data.classification.id;
// get user rights
string userName = "BillGates";
AccountRef account = new AccountRef();
account.uuid = string.Format("urn:user:{0}", userName);
DocumentRight[] rights;
using (var srv = new DocumentRightOperationsClient())
srv.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = _ContextAdminName;
srv.ClientCredentials.UserName.Password = _ContextAdminPass;
rights = srv.ListRightsByAccount(account);
// check if user can read
bool canRead;
var right = rights.FirstOrDefault(rr => rr.context.uuid == contextId);
if (right == null)
return;
canRead = (right.role.features.FirstOrDefault(ff => ff.id == "oracle.irm.generic.Open") != null); -
Missing user rights assignment entries for many security policies in list exported via secedit
Hello,
First of all, I posted this same question on The Official Scripting Guys Forum! but didn't get the answer to this exact question (even though I received a lot of useful relevant info). That is why I am posting here. This is a more appropriate
forum for the question. (Also posted on Windows Server 2012 General two days ago and didn't get a response at all).
OK, question time:
I want to modify the user rights assignment for a local security policy. In the GUI, find User Rights Assignment as follows: Win+R -> Enter "secpol.msc" -> Go to Local Policies -> Go to User Rights Assignment.
So, to modify a particular use rights assignment via a script, I need to export the INF file using secedit, modify it and then configure using the modified file using secedit. To export the INF file, I am using:
secedit /export /db C:\Windows\security\database\secedit.sdb /mergedpolicy /cfg SecPolicy
Now, the problem is that the INF file exported doesn't have all the user rights assignments that I see in the GUI. For example, the policy "Restore files and directories" has users/groups in its settings but it doesn't show up in the INF file.
In fact, most don't. Only five do and all these five have a different symbol next to them in the GUI. How are these policies different? What do I need to do to export all the policies?
EDIT: Adding screenshot of what I see:
Thanks!

Can you post a screen shot? My guess is that what you're seeing is that
secpol is only exporting the local settings and not ones that are set by a
GPO in AD and that will also be the difference between the icons.

Modify contributor content using validation script
Hi all,
I'd like to modify contributors content in a particular wysiwyg element using the external validation script. I've added a simple function to the default validation script included with SS 10gR4. Right now the part I don't get is - how to return the modified content back to the page?
Here's what I've got so far as a simple test, but it doesn't replace the original content.
function fnModiifyWysiwyg(oContent)
var strTextContent = fnSSGetTextContent(oContent);
strTextContent = "<b>this is a test</b>";
oContent = strTextContent;
return oContent;
}I am trying to get at the HTML of contributed content to make sure it does not exceed 255 chars. I can't seem to figure out how to validate anything but the text part of the contributed content.
function fnSSGetTextContent(oContent)
var strContent = '';
if (typeof oContent == 'string')
strContent = oContent;
else if (typeof oContent.innerText == 'string')
strContent = oContent.innerText;
else if (typeof oContent.textContent == 'string')
strContent = oContent.textContent;
return strContent;
function testval(oContent) {
var strTextContent = fnSSGetTextContent(oContent);
if (strTextContent.length > 255) {
alert("test");
else {
return true;
If I have content that, in design view, looks like
test
and in source mode looks like
test
The validation does not trigger (it should). If I put more than 255 chars in design mode, the validate fires and I get my alert. -
When using the camera downloader in Adobe Bridge CS6 with Nikon D5200 we are unable to see previews of the photos and it is very slow to download. The issue occurs under a the users rights, but not under admin level. This is a new issue.
Hi Jdentremont,
Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
1. Navigate to
“X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
2. Delete all the files in this folder.
3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
Best regards,
Eric

How to set up time machine so it can view old backup after renewal of user rights ?
I am newbie in the mac world but I am very happy to use the devices I have.
I just both and setup time capsule and did firt initial backup with time machine into account I have setup on the TC. But after while I was not able to view my user folder, so I resetup the user rights.
But now when I turn on time machine, I say that I didnt perform initial backup. In finder I am able to see and acces my folder on TC now and there is also a file with backup with name Václav - Mac mini.sparsebundle just in the root of my user folder on TC.
Can you please help me how to tell TM, that there is a initial backup that can be used for other incremental backups in the future ?
Thanks for your help.
Vaclav.I did that. But and then reopen TM but still I dont see backup performed any suggestions ?
"Inherit" a backup
Copy the following after the prompt, and leave a space, but do not press Return yet:
sudo tmutil inheritbackup
If your backups are on an external HD, locate and open the drive in the Finder window. At the top level of the drive is a Backups.backupdb folder containing a folder named for your old Mac, per the sample. This is what you want the new Mac to "inherit." Drag that folder to the Terminal window.
(If your backups are on a Time Capsule, locate the sparse bundle containing the backups for your old Mac via the Finder, and drag it to the Terminal window): -
Group Policy - User Rights Assignments not taking effect on workstation`
Novell 5.1 SP7. ZenWorks 3.2 sp3. Windows XP Pro workstations.
In Group Policy, (Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security
Settings/Local Policies/User Rights Assignment), I have added Power Users to
the "Load and Unload device drivers" policy. However this setting is not
taking effect on my Windows XP workstations. My DLU policy for users is
configured to have the users members of the "Users" and "Power Users" groups
on the local PC.
Other parts of Group Policy (Computer Policy/Administrative Templates) are
taking effect on the workstation, so I'm wondering if the problem I am
having is related to Security Settings only.
I enabled Group Policy logging on the Windows XP workstation and include it

Enable User Rights using Adobe Acrobat Professional 7
I created an editable PDF form using LifeCycle Designer 7.0. My goal is to have users fill out the form and email the actual filled out form not the XML code. I added a regualr button with the following java script.
event.target.submitForm({cURL:"mailto:[email protected]?subject=Submitted Form&body=Please find attached the completed form.",cSubmitAs:"PDF",cCharset:"utf-8"});
Show = Click
Language = JavaScript
Run At = Client
When I test the button in Adobe Professional or in LifeCycle the button works fine. However when I open the file in Reader 9, it does not work. I do not encuonter any error messages. Nothing happens when you click on the button. I thought that users rights need to be enabled in order for it to work. Unfortunately I do not see how to do this Adobe Acrobat Professional 7. I do not have Adobe Acrobat Professional 8. Any ideas on what I can do to correct this issue?For Reader users and AA7, your only choice is to have the XML file submitted. Then simply open the form in Acrobat and import the XML data file to fill the form. This will be exactly what the user saw when they submitted it. Thus there is no need to submit the entire form.

Upgrading to Acrobat Pro XI / Adobe Reader XI and enabling user rights
My company is a little behind on software updates and I'm going to ask for Adobe Reader XI to pushed out company wide since allows the user to save a filled-in PDF form.
Right now I'm using Acrobat Pro X, and suspect I will need to upgrade as well.
My questions are:
With the new-found ability of Reader to finally be able to save a filled in form, how does this effect the "enabling user rights" scenario?
Is it needed if the entire company is using Adobe Reader XI?
I did a test in Adobe Reader XI, and sure enough, I was able to save a filled-in form...BUT, I could not digitally sign the form.
Is this where the enabling user rights is still mandatory?
Or is this because the form was designed in Acrobat Pro X?
Does Acrobat Pro XI work around this?
I know I don't need to upgrade to Acrobat Pro XI to continue making forms, but should I?
Thanks for your feed back, and I look forward to reading your repliesThank you, George, for the prompt reply!
I suspected as much, but couldn't find a clear cut answer in my searches.
The tab order update alone has convinced me its worth pushing for the new Acrobat Pro XI.
The update to Adobe Reader XI will make many of our forms easier to get into the digital workflow, and I'm looking forward to getting use further away from a paper-based system -
Right Justification in File Content Conversion
I have a requirement where the data should be right justified in File content conversion of a Receiver Adapter .
For example it should be coming as " 5864" instead of "5864 ". Please help in completing this requirement.Hi Srinath
AFAIK, there is no setting in FCC to achieve this. You can do this instead in the Message Mapping step by doing a right justify on that target fields.
You can search for plenty of solutions on the internet to perform a right justify and include it in a UDF.
Below is an example of a UDF of execution type single values with single input. It right justifies the String based on a total length of 15. You can change the field length according to your requirement.
return String.format("%15s", input);
