Sync on commit reindex question

Say I have a text index defined like:
   CREATE INDEX CCC_OFFERINGS_TEXT_INDEX ON ccc_offerings ("INDEX_COL")
   INDEXTYPE IS "CTXSYS"."CONTEXT" PARAMETERS ('lexer new_ccc_offerings_lexer datastore
new_ccc_offerings_store sync (on commit)');
/If I want to update a row and to make the index update as well, do I have to change index_col to set off the reindex? Or is changing any field value in the row sufficient?
Thanks,
Doug

You have to change index_col and commit to cause synchronization of the index. The index is only synchronized when the column that the index is created on is changed.

  • Items not showing up in CONTEXT SYNC ON COMMIT  index

    My problem is, sometimes users can't find an item when searching (index is CONTEXT SYNC ON COMMIT), however, when I change the index column, the item shows up. I can even tell the index column was changed before at one point because i put a string representing the date and time in there.
    Here's how I have it set up (very similar to this anyway):
    begin
    ctx_ddl.create_preference('location_appt_lexer', 'BASIC_LEXER');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute ( 'location_appt_lexer', 'printjoins', '@._');
    end;
    BEGIN
    ctx_ddl.create_preference('location_appt_store', 'user_datastore');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('location_appt_store', 'procedure', 'search_pkg.location_appt_filter');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('location_appt_store', 'output_type', 'CLOB');
    END;
    CREATE INDEX "LOCATION_APPT_INDEX" ON "LOCATION" ("APPT_INDEX_COL")
       INDEXTYPE IS "CTXSYS"."CONTEXT"
         PARAMETERS ('DATASTORE location_appt_store LEXER location_appt_lexer SYNC (ON COMMIT)');And, of course there is a procedure location_appt_filter defined in a package search_pkg that I won't list here.
    As far as I know indexing is supposed to be automatic on commit. I don't understand why any row would not get indexed. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    The problem just fixed itself. I got irritated and quit messing with it. When I came back an hour later, it was fixed.

  • Sync on commit - How ?

    In Oracle text, updatng the index must not be the same as updating a simple index on a table. how does Oracle execute the index update?
    if I have sync on commit enabled will Oracle Text update the table in one transaction and sync the index in another transaction? are they saperate transactions? is it possible to have updated the table and have the index update fail?
    Regards,

    You might want to read [How Oracle Text processes DML|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/text/htdocs/text_dml_processing.html] for a basic understanding of Oracle Text indexing.
    It doesn't cover "sync on commit" as that didn't exist when it was written.
    Sync on commit isn't truly transactional. The person performing the commit will never see unindexed, committed changes (because the call won't return until the changes are indexed), but other users may. From their point of view, the table change is committed, then the sync is performed immediately after.
    If transactional behaviour is truly important to you (it's rarely needed, but users often SAY they want it) then you can use the "transactional" keyword. However, I would strongly recommend avoiding this as it can have serious performance implications.

  • How to type comma "," and question "?" without going to "123" sub menu?

    How to type comma "," and question "?" without going to "123" sub menu?

    I use Comma and question mark frequently at text messaging, email.....using my iPhone 4.
    Apparently, there's no short cut for this and I request Apple Support to create a shortcut for "," and "?' so there the Apple device can be more user friendly.

  • IPod syncing and backing up question!

    I just recently had to re-do my operating system with the recovery disk of my Windows XP laptop and had to wipe out everything and start fresh on the hard drive.
    I have everything on my iPod touch that has not been synced or backed up as all of that was gone like I said when I had to re-do my operating system on my Windows XP laptop which brought it back to day 1 and all of the previously synced and backed up data that was stored in iTunes on my laptop was wiped out as well.
    I don't want to lose what all I have on my iPod touch because I know that if I try to sync and backup my iPod touch it will think it's another computer and lose and wipe out everything that I have on my iPod touch as this has happened to me before in the past and it was all gone for good at that point.
    My question is this, how do I sync and backup my iPod touch on the same laptop that I used in the beginning when my iPod touch was brand new after I synced and backed up for the 1st time so that I won't lose everything on my iPod touch again so that it will recognize the same laptop I used in the beginning in iTunes?

    OK, these are good steps to follow for the purchases.
    What are the instructions for doing it for my Apps, Contacts, Websites I've saved on the iPod, Photos, Videos, Calendar, Notes, Messages, and Bookmarks so my laptop won't cause the iPod to delete any of these on me like the last time being that it thinks that it's a brand new iPod Touch and doesn't recognize it at all?
    Bear in mind still that I had to re-do my operating system for my Windows XP laptop from the recovery disk which brought it all back to day 1 from scratch. When I did this in the past and plugged in my iPod Touch to the laptop, it deleted and wiped out everything from the iPod Touch and had to start over. I don't want this to happen again.

  • PC to phone data Sync and FF history questions

    Hi there,
    I’m a old firefox user and have been using FF on my PC since long, but recently I’ve started using it in my Android (Note 3) I have few question regarding this:
    1) The reason I’m using FF in my Note 3, I’ve lots of bookmark in my PC I want them all in my phone as well. So I use basic sync feature to get them all. I’ve also few saved password which I want in my phone also. But I see FF stores all sync data in there server and I can clear them too after login. But I question is this safe to store data in FF server? Does it provides a secure encrypted method?
    2) When sync my PC FF data I sync history too, and I’ve long history in my PC, but when it sync to phone, the phone only shows very small history. Only upto last week, is that the Android FF version feature that it will show history for a week only? Or anything else?

    Hi guigs2,
    Thanks a lot for your feedback, yes I’ve many questions.
    1# “If you swipe down from the top of the navigation and tap on the sync icon you will see all the tabs and synced list.” Do you mean under setting? Under setting I see there have sync option to choose like bookmark, tabs, pass etc.
    1# I was using FF28 on my PC and its old sync feature and it was working flawlessly and properly sync all. But after the 29update I found FF released a new sync method and I moved to that. But what I found it really not sync properly. I’ve over 5k bookmark in my PC and when sync with my phone (Note3) it didn’t sync all. I ran the sync multiple time and leave it long to do its purpose but it didn’t. I also tried adding, deleting some from my PC and then sync again, but nothing helps. Also 29 Sync doesn’t sync passwords with master password. Then for all (except Note 3) I went back to FF 28 and started using old sync method. Also the old sync account shows how many data uploaded and a option for user to clear them, which I use frequently for safety purpose but that’s missing in the new sync. Also the
    2# is there any way to import bookmark manually on android? Because when I do sync all desktop bookmarks shows under ‘desktop’ directory. But it would be helpful if all are stored in root bookmark place.
    3# another PC FF related question is: is there any way for the bookmark sidebar shortcut icon in FF 29. I see its missing in 29 and the new icon only shows a dropdown menu. But as I’ve long list of bookmarks, so sidebar is best for me. I know the keyboard shortcut (ctrl+B) but I’m habituated with the icon.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Syncing Apps to iPod Question!!

    I recently bought an app for my iPod for the first time but when I try and sync it to my iPod from my computer it has a question that concerns me. It says that it would delete any exsisting apps on the iPod. Does that mean it will delete the ones that came with the iPod such as Safari, Calender, Youtube, and so on?
    Message was edited by: Chystery

    Welcome to the discussions,
    the default apps ( Safari, Calendars, Contacts...) can not be deleted, only the apps you buy and install.
    If there are apps on the ipod you do not have on your computer, choose "transfer purchases" in the File menu in iTunes to be sure, all other apps and bought media will be copied to your computer. If your ipod is synced for the first time or was synced to another computer before, all media content will be erased and replaced with the content of the new iTunes library on this computer.

  • Commit Work Question

    I have a question for all of the guru's out there. I am updating multiple files in my Mobile Asset Process, but at some point I want to do a commit, but I only want to do the commit for one file not all of them. Is there a way to do that?
    Thanks
    Mike

    Michael,
    hope this will answer your question:
    In database update processes, two things happen:
    - the objects to be updated are locked
    - database changes are written to the database rollback segment
    Every work process or transaction runs in it's own logical unit of work (LUW).
    At end of this LUW, an implicit COMMIT WORK occurs committing the rollback segment to the database. From now on, database changes become visible for all processes and users. Also all functions called with the addition IN UPDATE TASK are released for processing in an update process. An explicit COMMIT WORK at the end of active program will do the same and additionally start all FORMs called with the addition ON UPDATE.
    In your case: A COMMIT WORK will commit <b>all</b> database requests as described above: There is no way to to 'selected' COMMIT.
    If you process too many objects, either the database rollback segment or the lock table will overflow.
    In terms of performance, it is better to wait for commit as long as possible because every commit means heavy processing for ABAP and database.
    It is good practice to do a COMMIT after a certain number of objects. Some prefer 100; my personal experience says 1000 is fine.
    ROLLBACK works the same way but it will clear the whole rollback segment making all changes undone. If you encounter an error after say 900 uncommited objects and a rollback is necessary, you have to start again right from the beginning.
    Hope this helps you to find the best way.
    Regards,
    Clemens

  • New iTunes, syncing, and iOS update questions!  Hot mess over here!

    I'm in a quandary and need some help. Bare with me if I forgot details.
    I moved all music to an external drive and a week later, it died.
    I got a new laptop and downloaded iTunes 9.2
    I've transfered all my purchased music and applications from the iPhone to my new iTunes.
    _*I'm getting ready for the updates and have the following questions:*_
    Some applications aren't showing up (ie. Project 365). Why would that be?
    An error message pops up when I want to "sync" my applications. Since I transfered my purchases, do I ignore?
    Do I need to sync my iPhone to my new iTunes before the iOS update?
    If I ignore the warning messages, will the iOS update delete applications?
    The iOS update has warnings. What will I lose?
    I am currently running an (3 hour!)iPhone backup.
    I swear I'm not that computer illiterate, but extraordinaryly cautious since losing everything.

    If you did not backup prior to upgrading and the cancel button is showing, do that now. You should always backup before doing an upgrade. If it asks you to sync your apps then do that. Your backup during upgrade will take hours because itunes is sending all your data to Apple instead of just internally inside your computer.

  • Syncing pics and video question

    I am using the new i phone 4 and are starting to get in to i movie and the camera on the phone. I have both a I mac at work and at home.
    When I sync up to either machine the camera wants to sync with that machine which in essence calls it to load all the pics from that machines I photo to my phone. What I am more interested in doing is telling the I phone which pics to put on that machine in essence syncing my phone to the machine not the other way around.
    What I really want to do also is be able to pick and choose which photos from my phone that I want to import and which that I do not..Is that possible! i.e. i would like to keep some videos on my phone as I edit them in I movie for my I phone...Is there a way to dump some of my camera roll into I photo and keep some of it. Please advise.
    Bonus Question: My wife has an I phone and she and I are sharing the same I mac at home...Is there a way that we can set up individual I photo files as to keep our video and pics separate in I photo.

    I was wondering this same thing. And I know what the OP is talking about. As there are ways to do what he is talking about, (work arounds) - it still isn't just plain cut and dry like it should be. I have no clue why this great phone has so many little downsides that it doesn't need to have.
    First off, this "syncing" name to do what has been done over years on other devices which is called "transferring files" or "Import" and "Export" is just stupid, and on top of that completely limiting.
    What I and the OP would like to do, and have it be like is more like, when I plug in my iPhone I don't want to have to "sync" crap, what I want to do is have it operate more like a mini firewire drive has been plugged into my computer. I would like to take certain things off my iPhone, leaving other things, and take ONLY certain things off my computer and put them into my iPhone. Be able to delete anything from my iPhone I want and vice versa.
    This "syncing" crap is ridiculous. I mean, I found work arounds, but its stupid to have to do that. IE: If I want to delete photos from my iPhone that I got from my computer, I can't do it !! I simply can not go to my phone and check photos to delete and delete them.. HA !! Is that ridiculous or what ? What I have to do is "sync" a empty folder to it, then it wipes it out. BUT its limiting because, what if I only want to delete a few, and keep some others ? Well, yes, I have to then create a "sync" folder with them photos I want to keep, but none others, then sync it, and there it is. Its totally redundant and stupid and there is no reason for it.
    That is alot of steps to just do what normally should be able to be done. Seriously what is Steve Jobs thinking with some of these things ?
    This SAME thing applies to ringtones I made and got into my iPhone. I can not delete them !! I have to use the above process to accomplish this as well.
    What we want, and the way it should be is more of a "import" and "export" thing. NOT this "sync" idea. Its stupid. It takes too much control over my iPhone and files, and I want to be in complete control of my iPhone and files. I paid for it, why not ?.
    This also applies to the music, and just all "syncing" cases with this iPhone and iTunes. It causes accidental complete erasures of your carefully compiled files and vice versa. It is completely to "do it all or nothing at all" type of thing. Steve Jobs swears I want my whole music library on my iPhone at all times. Or all my photos, and then he wants to take control of them.
    I say get rid of "Sync" and give me "Import" and "Export" of my personally created files along with complete control of what I want to keep where and what I don't. JUST like a mini firewire drive was attached and how that works. It would be SOOOOO much more simple. And make sooooo much more sense. Then have premade tags of any thing we purchased and was copywriten that makes those things NOT be able to be transfered around without syncing and it taking control like it does now so it can't be anywhere but with who purchased it.

  • Exception handling in receiver sync SOAP comm channel

    Hi experts,
    We are developing following synchronous scenario: sRFC to SOAP.
    In this, XI sends some data to an application and the application sends back the response. No problem so far.
    However, this application can throw exceptions that we want to send back to SAP, these exceptions are not part of a message and we can only see them AS AN ERROR IN SXI_MONITOR in the receiver SOAP header, in the error tab, they look like:
    "com.sap.engine.interfaces.messaging.api.exception.MessagingException: SOAP: response message contains an error XIAdapter/PARSING/ADAPTER.SOAP_EXCEPTION - soap fault:
    Questions:
    Is there any way to get these exceptions from the application and send them back to SAP as if they were the SOAP.response message??
    What if we select Keep headers in the receiver SOAP channel?
    do we need to create a fault message type and assign it in ID?
    Any ideas?
    Best regards,
    David

    check for the possibility of raising an alert which has SXMS_TO_ADAPTER_ERRTXT as the Container variable....so if there is an error this alert variable will get populated and you will receive an alert....applicable only for adapter engine alert...

  • Sync and disk mode questions

    I recently synced all my Outlook 2003 business contacts into my 1st gen Ipod touch 16g. I also recently had a crash that wiped my outlook contacts. I had not backed up recently so I only saved about half of the ones I need. However, all of them are on the Ipod. How can I get them back into my Outlook without scanning each and every one back in (@300).
    Next.
    In syncing contacts and calendars with Outlook 2003 what is the protocol? If I change the Ipod will it update Outlook upon sync and vice versa, or will only one act as slave?
    I'm new. I am sure this has all been covered but I am stuck. Thanks in advance.

    As long as your Outlook has one contact and one calendar entry in it, you should get the option to merge the data when syncing.
    It will sync both ways.

  • Log file sync waits - COMMIT class - Pattern observed

    I am running a performance test with 1 vUser for 24 hrs. Each time the user logs in, it logs in to my application as a different customer. All customers go through the same screens and perform the same operations.
    When I analyze the % Total CPU time, % User CPU and % Wait CPU, I see a strange pattern or behavior. % User CPU is pretty much flat for the entire duration of the test. However, % Total CPU and % Wait CPU have the same pattern as described below:
    - First 3 hrs 15 mins - high % Total CPU and % Wait CPU
    - Next 1 hr 15 mins - low % Total CPU and % Wait CPU
    - Next 3 hrs 15 mins - same as first 3 hrs 15 mins.
    - Next 1 hr 15 mins - same as the earlier 1 hr 15 mins
    ... and so on.
    I generated the awrddrpt - between two awrrpt - each of 1 hr duration. One of the 1 hr duration falls within the 3 hrs 15 mins time slice, and another 1 hr falls within the 1 hr 15 min time slice.
    I see that there is
    --> 40% difference in the wait time for log file sync events - 40% less in the 1 hr duration from 1 hr 15 mins slice compared to the larger slice, even though the # of log file sync events in both the 1 hr durations is close to same.
    Pls note that this is the same test from which the two durations were compared. Same environment, Same load (loadProfile in awrddrpt shows no difference), then why do I see difference in Wait CPU - higher in one time slice (3 hr 15 mins) when compared to the other slice (1 hr 15 mins).
    log file sync shows in Top 5 timed events in both time slices. In the 1 hr duration from longer time slice, the # of log file sync events is 13,222 and in the 1 hr duration from the shorter time slice it is 13,278.
    The log file sync event Wait Time(s) in the 1 hr duration in the longer time slice is 154.2s and that in the 1 hr duration in the shorter time slice is 10.3s.
    Why do we see this difference, when the load profile is the same in both time slices?

    I am guessing  the above logic will update 3 records(based on teh time dimension) , is that correct?

    Dear Sapki6,
    Sorry I did not clear your script logic. If you want to create a new record into BPC table, please you have to use *REC() statement and combine with *COMMIT() statement. *COMMIT() statement is used to write down a data into tables and maybe you want to view a new record, please you do not put *COMMIT() statement in your script and BPC will write down in memory. So, you can see log of data for a new record which BPC created it.
