Sync Project Online Security Group to SharePoint Security Groups

Hi,
Is there any way to sync prject server security group(Custom) into SharePoint Security Groups.
My scenario is: I created a document library, I want to apply project server security on it, based on project server security groups, for that currently I created a custom group in sharepoint and manualy added the users into that group. That doesn't looks
good, because if my project online group will change, than manually I have to change sharepoint group too. So what I want is, that sharepoint group is automatically synced with project online group.
Or is there any other way to assign project online security in document library?
Thanks
PSN

No there is no workaround other then creating a group on Office 365 server.
SharePoint Online lets you create security groups via the Admin Overview page

Just found a 3rd part. check if it can help
http://en.share-gate.com/blog/migrate-to-office-365-configure-sharepoint-to-use-active-directory
Active Directory Synchronization: Allows you to sync your Active Directory Objects such as users and groups to your Office 365 account. This is a one-way synchronization, which means you continue to manage users On-Premises, and your changes
will appear on Office 365 SharePoint. However, authentication and passwords are still managed by Office 365. It will be required for Password Sync and Single Sign On (see below).

  • Project Online with an existing SharePoint Online tenant

Hi, As I understand Project Online includes his own SharePoint Online infrastructure, my customer needs evidence on if they implement Project Online this service will not interact with an existing site information on very customized SharePoint online intranet,
any information reference will be great.
    Thanks

PWA is special site collection and like every site collection in SharePoint it is independent of other site collections.
You can bring up the SharePoint admin center and show various site collections to give him the peace of mind he needed.

  • Read all projects within Project Online using web part Sharepoint

Hello all. Can we get data of all projects from Project Online in Sharepoint Site? So far as I understand we can get data of list like this:
    SPWeb web = SPContext.Current.Web;
    SPList issueList = web.GetList("https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sites/demo/Sample Project 1/Lists/Issues/AllItems.aspx");
Do you have any some good tutorial? I am new on web part Sharepoint.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Yes you can, I would use the ProjectData API if you are not bothered about security (accessing all projects etc.) or if you want the data returned to be accessed controlled use the ProjectServer API. Examples below:
    ODATA API (ProjectData):
    <PWA site URL>/_api/ProjectData/Projects
    JSOM REST API (ProjectServer):
    <PWA site url>/_api/ProjectServer/Projects
Regarding guides, just search for SharePoint apps / App part / client web part. Some simple examples of using  the APIs mentioned in JavaScript on the Project sites can be seen below:

  • No outline levels from Project Online main project page?

I'm still relatively new to Project Online, but I have four projects I have showing on the project page of Project Online. Three from SharePoint task lists and one Enterprise Project.  All I can see is the project name and related columns.  If
I want to see anything "below" that (i.e., at various outline levels), the Outline command in the Projects ribbon doesn't do anything.   Sure I can go to the individual project or SharePoint task list and see it there, but I thought in some
Microsoft video that from the projects page of Project Online I should be able to see more detail on each project.
So what's the scoop, oh experienced ones?  Bug or feature?  :)

    Hi Cuttyson,
The Project Center page ("Project" link from the quick launch menu on the left part of the PWA page) only displays 1 row per project and there is no such a feature which allows developing a project from the project center. To do this, you have
to click on the project name and access all detail information about the project (or sharepoint list).
It has been like this since the first versions of Project Server's Web Application.
    Hope this helps,

  • Security Groups when in 'Project Server Permissions Mode' - Project Online

    Hi All,
We have Project Online up and running, by default the PWA instance we added to O365 was in "SharePoint Permissions" Mode, we changed to "Project Server Permissions" Mode because of some complex security we need to configure. For some
reason (different from Project Server 2013) Project Online creates a number of Security Groups by default that seem to be duplicates. For example for Administrators there are:
    - Administrators
    - Administrators for Project Web App
    - Web Administrators (Project Web App Synchronized)
    For Project Managers:
    - Project Managers
    - Project Managers (Project Web App Synchronized)
    - Project Managers for Project Web App
And there is something similar for all the groups (compared to Project Server 2013):
I have looked online, with no luck, for some guidance on what all these groups are and if I can delete some of them without causing PWA to crash.
If anyone out there can point me in the right direction / send me some documentation or links it will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Jorge

Hi Jorge, I had the same thing on two different tenants within the last week - one today. I will just clean up the SharePoint groups manually. The ones with the descriptions are the correct Project Server permission mode groups... Hopefully Microsoft will
fix this soon, you could raise a support ticket on your office 365 tenant - support is pretty quick! Paul

  • Project Server 2010: PWA Removing Default Project Site Security Groups When Creating a New Project

I looked for this specific issue with Project Server 2010/PWA/SharePoint and could not find an exact answer... hopefully someone can help.
We are currently using Project Server 2010 and have a number of project site templates that are used dependent upon the enterprise project type selected. Each of these project site templates have unique permissions which should create the default security
groups on the project site upon publishing/syncing:
    <Project Name> Members
    <Project Name> Owners
    <Project Name> Visitors
<Project Name> Project Managers (Project Web App Synchronized)
<Project Name> Team Members (Project Web App Synchronized)
Web Administrators (Project Web App Synchronized)
Whether a user creates a project through PWA or Project Pro 2010 and imports the project into PWA, we get a weird result in the Site Permissions of the newly created project site. PWA will remove all default security groups from the project site template
and add a whole list of users in the Site Permissions list without groups.
Once the project is published and the project site is created, we can then go back and add those default security groups back in the project Site Permissions and even add a couple of custom groups without them being removed on all subsequent project syncs
    or publishing.
How do we get PWA to not overwrite the project site templates' security groups and place each user in the proper default security groups? At the same time, how is PWA adding a number of users into the Project Site Permissions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Paul,
Thanks for that information. Right now we are using the Test environment to turn the Auto-sync feature back on. I suspect that the reason this is happening is due to PWA groups/categories/security templates. There may be more than one PWA group that is "overwriting"
the default project site groups upon initial creation of the project. We will look further into the security settings to tighten up the policies.

  • Project Online - Active Directory Sync runs automatically

    Hi,
Once configured the AD sync in Project Online, I want to know if it will occur automatically when the AD group is upgraded, or if it is necessary to enter the PWA and perform manually.
My synchronization occurs with a security group of Office 365.
Is there a way to schedule this process?
    Thanks.
    Emmanuel BC

    Hello,
There is a PSI method you run the AD sync:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg225862(v=office.15).aspx
If this was on-prem you could easily call this using PowerShell but that would be a little more difficult for Project Online. You can access the PSI is Project Online but you have to work out how to authenticate against Project Online PSI. You can do this
in code quite easily so it is possible but I have not tried in PowerShell.

  • Project Online - Schedule PDP disappearing for some Project Owners and Project Server Administrators Group

Current Project Online environment is currently setup with Project Server Permissions Mode. All projects follow a customized workflow that enables Schedule PDP on Planning Phase/Stage, among other rules. For some users the workflow and
expected PDPs are working fine, but for other the Schedule PDP just disappears under unknown conditions, even if they are part of the Administrators Group. Has anyone come across these behaviour?
    Saludos!

As you said they belongs to Admin group it means they have required permission still double check the permission assigned to the users.
Also ask those users to try to log in form different system then check is issue is occurring.
If this issue is occurring for few users then this may be because of Browser. check the following :
    1. Open IE then internet options --> Security --> Trusted Site and add your PWA site. then check
    2. If still issue is occurring then click on F12 button then select browser mode as IE 9 then check.

  • Project site security best practise - project server 2010

    I have following requirement
    environment:
    project server 2010
project sites created out of project site templates. So they follow project server security model.
    requirement:
the are users who do not needs to see any thing except the content on project site.  The user does not need to access project \pwa
    Question:
    what is the best approach
create sharepoint based  groups for the projectsite?
    Create project server based group?

    pgshah570,
If you are using the automatic synchronization for project site permissions, then the permissions are granted based on the following rules:
Project managers who have published a project or who have Save Project permissions on a project are added to the Project Managers (Microsoft Project Server) site group.
Team members with assignments in a project are added to the Team members (Microsoft Project Server) site group.
Other Project Server users who have View Project Site permission on a project are added to the Readers (Microsoft Project Server) site group.
If you are NOT using the automatic synchronization, then project sites are like any other SharePoint Sites, and you can use SharePoint groups or AD groups. I recommend using AD groups to grant permissions. The Project Server Security groups in this scenario
do not have any impact on Project Site permissions.

What version of Outlook do you use? I don't think this works for Outlook 2010, I believe it needs to be Outlook 2013.

  • Oracle Project Analytics - Project Manager Security Implementation

Has anyone implemented a security scenario for Project Managers, such that they can only see the information associated to their projects when using EBS as the source? If so,
    - How did you identify the relationship between project managers and their projects? Did you use an initialization block and pull this information in from EBS?
    - Where did you define the security/filtering configuration so that they were limited on what they could see?
    - Did you create a custom responsibility for 'Project Managers' and have them access a set of Project Manager dashboard/reports that followed the Project Manager security model?
    Thanks in advance.

Please note that I have posted this same question/thread in the BI Apps forum. I didn't want to duplicate effort, but I know different users may only come to this forum. The link to the original thread is below:

Oracle Project Analytics - Project Manager Security Implementation

    Coolmesh84,
Thanks for the great info and reply. This makes complete sense to me, but I just want to make sure I am clear on a couple points:
+1. Use an initialization box to filter the user's emp id+
You mean use an init block to pull the users employee id and store it in a session variable correct? The session variable will then be used later as part of the filter criteria.
*2. and add a filter to the required dimension table in business layer to filter based on the project_manager_id column for the project manager group.+*
To implement the step above, would you follow theses steps:
    1. Go to Manage->Security
    2. Under Groups, select the group planned to be utilized for this filter (in this case I double clicked the Project Manager group).
    3. I then Click permissions button for this group
    4. Go to the Filters tab of the window that pops up
    5. Add a filter, go to BMM tab and select the Project dimension and then define a filter for Proj Mgr Id = nqsession.employeeid
+3. Ideally you should be able to use the OOTB project manager group for this security.+
This is a good point, but a few more questions here - There are a number of Project related groups (see below) in the out of box Oracle BI Apps RPD and all of them essentially roll up to the super group 'Operating Unit Org-based Security'. Is there a best practice or preferred approach for utilizing these groups as they related to Oracle EBS v12? Is there any good documentation out there to see what the intended use and setup is for these groups? Do all of these groups relate back to an EBS Responsibility? I have read through the OBIA Security Configuration document and basically all it says is to enable the operating unit org initilization block and thats all .. not really all that helpful.
    Thanks again - k

I am connected to the Internet via cable and the modem provides Wi-Fi connection. I have given access to the Wi-F to my grandkids lap top & smart phone. They are using all my data. How do I block them? I don't wish to take them off just block them when the usage is high i.e can I turn the Wi-Fi on and off as and when I want to.

Re: Install and activate Telstra Online Security
Trying to follow the emailed instructions to load Online Security onto a new HP Pavilion with Windows 8.1 .
When I load Online Security and re-start, it returns to the download routine and tells me there is an old version that needs to be removed. It goes into an endless loop of removing/re-installing/re-starting.
When I try to load Safe Browser it locks the computer after indicating approximately 75% complete. I tried several times. On one occasion I had to "REFRESH" the laptop and this re-initialised the computer, taking me back to the initial set-up of the device.
The instructions appear to be out of date.
