Synchronise NI-RFSG / NI-RFSA with NI-TCLK

Is it possible to synchronise NI-RFGS and NI-RFSA devices using the NI-TCLK library?
I have a PXI system with a PXIe-5672 waveform generator / upconverter and a PXI-5661 downconverter / digitizer.  I would like to synchronise them so they start transmitting / recording at the same time.  I believe in general the NI-TCLK library can be used to achieve this?
I can't wok out how to use it.  The "niTCLK configure for homogenous trigger" vi takes an array of "sessions", however I don't have "RFSA Get Session Reference" or "RFSG Get Session Reference" functions.
Is it possible to use the NI-TCLK library with RFSA and RFSG? If so, how do you configure it?
Thanks in advance
David
Labview 8.0 / Windows XP

I have attemtpted to synchronise transmitter and receiver using the TCLK library and the  RFSG get Fgen session / RFSA get Scope session vi's. Both RFSA and RFSG have been initialised and have no start trigger set, and neither have been started.  Their session references have been wired to a niTCLK configure for homogenous triggers vi.
However when I run TCLK synchronise or TCLK initiate I get the following erors.
Is it possible to use niTCLK with the digitiser in DDC mode?  When I do not synchronise the RFSA (so only the RFSG is connected to the TCLK configure and initiate) I do not get the errors, but obviousy the RFSG is only synchronising with itself

  • RFSG Generation & RFSA Acqusition Precise Timing

    Hi NI RF Guys,
I am tyring to find the time difference between RFSG Generation and RFSA Acquisition.
I have initialized the RFSG to transmit Complex IQ Signal and RFSA to acquire that
Complex IQ Signal soon after RFSG generates it.
I am pasting a snapshot of this VI built using NI RFSG and RFSA examples...
I find that the time difference between RFSG Generation and RFSA Acquisition never goes
    below 2ms ( two milliseconds ).
Why is there so much of a delay in the RFSA Acquisition,
even though the RFSA has been initialised and is ready for acquiring data ?
Is it due to the fact that it takes a finite amount of time for transferring the IQ data from the
PXI Digitizer via the PXI Bus to the PXI Embedded Controller... If that time is finite, I can
substract that time from my calculations (i.e., Time difference between RFSG Generation
    and RFSA Acquisition ).
But I cannot figure out how to calculate this Data Transfer time for
transferring the IQ data from the PXI Digitizer via the PXI Bus to the PXI Embedded
Controller. ( If at all 2ms delay is due to this ??? )
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated ..
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dharmendra,
I am a bit confused about what you need to measure?  The amount of time it takes the OS to make the software calls could easily be a few milliseconds.  Keep in mind that the OS is not deterministic (unless using a real time OS), so using the clock ticks as a timebase for measuring short delays is not common.  Even on a real time system, the resolution of the clock might not be fast enough to make a meaningful measurement.  You are currently essentially measuring the amount of time it takes for LabVIEW to call the functions in between the two Tick Count vis using the OS clock as a reference.
The software calls are used to configure the hardware, and once the tasks initiate they are based off of hardware-timed clocks and triggers.  Measuring the time between software calls is not necessarily beneficial, but we should rather be more concerned with the delay between hardware signals used to begin the acquisition.
Since you are triggering the RFSA task off of the power level of its input which is coming from the RFSG, you should Initiate the RFSA task first.  After initiating the RFSA task, the digitizer at this point is ready to accept the trigger signal.  Presumably this trigger won't come until after the RFSG task has started as well, so once the RFSG task begins it will trigger the RFSA task as well.  Currently, the RFSG task begins, and the RFSA task must wait that ~2ms before it is ready to accept the trigger.
Depending on which RF device you are using, you could also use the RFSG Export Signal.vi to output the start trigger as soon as the generation begins, and use this signal as a digital trigger for your digitizer.  The amount of time it takes the computer to read back the data is again non-deterministic, but if you want the tasks to start together then this is possible to accomplish in hardware.  The samples that you acquire are all based off of hardware-timed signals and are brought over in chunks back into LabVIEW with the Fetch command.

  • Atention Satya:How to find Noisefigure by using RFSG and RFSA Drivers

    Sir,
I want to find Noise figure by using RFSG and RFSA drivers pls send a LabView code for this.....
    Regards,

    Santosh,
Could you give us a little bit more details on the setup that you have.  Do you have both the RFSA and the RFSG.  Also, if you have the Spectral Measurements Toolkit that will help.  The noise figure is the ratio of the SNR of the system input and the SNR of the system output.  Are you planning on reading in two signals or are you going to generate a signal to some kind of DUC and read it back in the RFSA?  The SNR of signals can be found using the Spectral Measurements Toolkit and hence the noise figure as well.
Looking forward to hear from you.

    Hi achyuth,
Thank you for posting on the National Instruments forum.
I am not sure what you are trying to do.  Are you trying to input and output at the
same time?  Are you just trying to
synchronize all of your inputs?  Do you
want them to run off the same clock?  If
you could, give me some more information so I can understand your problem

    Hi Farooqui,
Which RFSG/RFSA hardware are you using?  There aren't any public OFDM examples for RFSA/RFSG to my knowledge, however we do have a couple for multiple USRP devices here and here.  I would take a look through those for the code structure and adapt it by replacing the USRP specific VIs, as a potential starting point.

  • Synchronizing persistent tmux loginctl session ID with new session

Hey all. Does anyone else have the issue with a persistent tmux session losing it's 'active' session status with loginctl after restarting the window manager (monsterwm in this case, logging in automatically on VT1 per the wiki)? This causes issues with udisks mounting priviliges. I'd think it'd cause issues with pulseaudio but it doesn't (and I don't understand why).
    So, to reproduce:
    1. Fresh reboot and login
    2. Open terminal. $XDG_SESSION_ID will be 1
    3. Open tmux instance. $XDG_SESSION_ID will be 1
    4. Restart the window manager
    5. Open terminal. $XDG_SESSION_ID = 3. loginctl session-status active=yes
    6. Reattach tmux session. XDG_SESSION_ID =1. loginctl session-status active=no
Is there some easy way to keep these synchronized so I don't have permissions issues?
    Thanks!
    Scott

No, it has nothing to do with host names, CNAME, DNS or anything.
The session ID is sent to the server from the browser in either a cookie header or as part of the "extra info" part of a URL with the request. If there is no session ID in either place, the server creates a new session. If there is a session ID, then it gets the session object (if it's not expired). Then it sends the session ID back to the browser with the response to that request (either as a cookie or encoded into the URLs in the page, which you have to do explicitly do for each URL). Click on a link, then the process starts again. The first time you go to a site, you have no session ID. The server just makes a new one.
The only thing that domain names have any affect on is cookies. Cuz cookies are name/value data associated with a domain name of the server (amongst other things). The browser, for security reasons, only sends cookies in requests to servers that set the cookie in the first place. The server can't get cookies that it didn't set.
So if you have a server running on your local machine, you can access that server in 3 ways:
    1) localhost
    2) network name
    3) domain name
The browser can know quite easily that 1 and 2 are the same thing, and send cookies for either interchangably (not that it has to, but it seems you are seeing this happen, so...). But the browser will probably not make any assumption about 3's relation to 1 or 2. The association is generally to domain name, not necessarily IP address.
And it's really a moot point anyway. You should not typically be accessing a server from those 3 different means within the same session. Someone connecting to your server isn't going to use anything but #3 anyway, the other 2 (definitely #1 and #2 only works on the same LAN) wouldn't make much sense. So there's not going to be this issue at all. The session ID itself has no relation whatsoever to a client's domain name.

  • How to make a synchronous acquisition of two analog signals with a one channel DAQ ?

    Hi !
It is the first time I use Labview. I have just made some easy VIs, and now, I do not know how to deal with my problem...
My problem : I have only one acquisition card (DAQ Ni 6034E) and I would like
to acquire simultaneously two analog signals. It seems to be possible, in a quasi-synchronous acquisition if the card acquires one point of the first signal, then the first point of the second signal, then the second of the first signal, and so on ... I thougth that I could made two sequencies with a VI of data acquisition in each sequency, with the AI MULT PT. But with this, I think that I will lose the precision of the sampling frequency. And I have to know the sampling fre
    quency ...
    Thanks for your help !
    Carline

    Hi Carline,
A PCI-6034E is a low-cost board, which only has one Analog to Digital Converter (ADC).
With only one ADC you can't acquire different channels at the same time. That's why you find a multiplexer before the ADC in this type of board. This enables you to acquire multi-channels at the same rate quasi simultaneously. The samples of the different channels will be interleaved as it is explained in the following knowledge base :
With this method, the sampling frequency is the same for all channels. The sampling frequency of one channel is determined with the "scan rate" parameter. There is only a small delay between the samples
of each channels. When you perform an interval scanning acquisition, this delay depends on the "sample rate" that you specify. To have more informations about this terminology, please refer to the following KBs :
To easily perform such a multi-channels analog acquisition, you can use the VI named "AI Acquire Waveforms.vi". You also can use an example provided with LabVIEW. You just have to browse the NI Example Finder in "Harware Input & output >> Traditional NI-DAQ >> General".

  • Synchronizing a new iPad (iPad Air2) with an Existenzgründer account and what to Do with Thomas older iPad  (iPad3)?k

    Hi Folks,
I'm about to order a new iPad Air2, but I already use an older iPad3. How can I synchronize the new one with my account and what is going to happen with my old Pad? Do I have to reset it and what is the exact procedure for doing so? First synchronizIng the new one and then resetting the older one, or the other way around?

You never pay for apps twice (unless you use multiple accounts).  So feel free to delete apps you dont think need to stay on your ipad 2.  When you get your new ipad you can go the app store and go to "purchases" and redownload all your apps free of charge.
However, i suggest that when you set up your ipad you "restore from a back up" of your ipad 2 this way your settings and app data are transfered to your new ipad (this will not effect the old ipad).  But you can have the same app on more that one device, in case you were wondering.

  • XI 3.0 SP14 Synchronous SOAP- XI- ABAP Proxy - fails with "System Error"

    Hi All,
The synchronous response message fails at the stage "Receiver Identification".
It seems that the synchronous response XML has no "sender" attribute, so obviously the receiver determination fails.
In the message monitor I can see the correct payload coming from the ABAP proxy, so that part looks OK.
I have the same scenario working perfectly on another system landscape, so there might be a configuration side to it.

  • RFSG 5673 streaming with script

    Hi All,
I'm trying to build ARB baseband data on my PC, a rack mount controller in this case, then transmit as quickly as possible with the 5673 (VSG) for real time transmission in a TDD.  The best solution I've found is the following, but it doesn't seem to work properly. ... and I'm not sure why.  Shouldn't it work?
I don't really understand the interaction between the script and streaming waveform.
    Put generation mode into script;
    Set the data transfer property to streaming;
    Allocate and initialize VSG memory for the corresponding number of samples in my waveform;
Program a script like the following:  ( I put comments after the '//' )
    script myScript1
Generate wf0  // play waveform once to open up stream buffer
       Repeat forever
         Clear scriptTrigger0
Wait until scriptTrigger0   // (*) download next waveform, then use scriptTrigger0 to transmit
         Generate wf0
       end repeat
    end script
FYI: Sample rate is in the 10's of MHz.  (I've been using 80 MHz)
After initiating I can't do anything.  I can't even query the device to check 'SpaceAvailableInStreamingWaveform'.  Any subsequenct command gives the following error:
The data being written to the streaming waveform cannot keep up with the output.<LF/>Decrease the sample rate or write data to the streaming waveform more frequently.
    Waveform Name: wf0
    Status Code: -219106
So then I have to reset / reconnect.  This seems faulty in that my streaming data is keeping up with the output since the VSG should be waiting.
Interestingly enough I can do the following and things actually work. It seems that an error is only produced when the VSG buffer is "mostly" empty.  So if I pad enough zeros on my waveform, then play 3/4 of the entire buffer per trigger, things seem to work well.  It's just a pain in the butt and I'm intruducing more latency then I'd like.  The following script works:
    script myScript1
      Generate wf0 subset (0, 750000)  // empty 3/4 of buffer
            Repeat forever
                Clear scriptTrigger0
Wait until scriptTrigger0         // download new data prior to trigger and play a 3/4 cyclic piece of the buffer
                  Generate wf0 subset (750000, 250000)
                  Generate wf0 subset (0, 500000)
                Clear scriptTrigger0
                Wait until scriptTrigger0
                  Generate wf0 subset (500000, 500000)
                  Generate wf0 subset (0, 250000)
                Clear scriptTrigger0
                Wait until scriptTrigger0
                  Generate wf0 subset (250000, 750000)
                Clear scriptTrigger0
                Wait until scriptTrigger0
                  Generate wf0 subset (0, 750000)
            end repeat
    end script
There has to be a better way to do this...
    Any thoughts are apreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Clayton_A

So...  after more thought about my application, I'm really not so concerned with small latency involved with additional buffer space.
I'm going to define a buffer that's twice the length of my waveform and simply ping-pong between to subsets.  Like this:
    script myScript1
       Repeat forever
         Clear scriptTrigger0
         Wait until scriptTrigger0
         Generate wf0 subset (0, waveform_length)
         Clear scriptTrigger0
         Wait until scriptTrigger0
         Generate wf0 subset (waveform_length, waveform_length)
       end repeat
    end script
Then I'll just write to one subset while transmitting from the other.
I'm still interested in hearing any thoughts on the matter.
I'm also interested in why errors are produced when the VSG hasn't read all data in the stream buffer.  Or 'at what point' are errors produced.  Is there a non-zero difference between read and write pointers that is too close?
For example, the following gives an error prior to the first trigger:
    script myScript1
       Generate wf0 subset (0, (waveform_length - 100) )
       Repeat forever
         Clear scriptTrigger0
Wait until scriptTrigger0   // Any device query or command gives an error while waiting for this trigger.
         Generate wf0 subset ((waveform_length - 100), 100)
         Generate wf0 subset (0, (waveform_length - 100))
       end repeat
    end script

  • How can I read an audio file and brodcast it using NI RFSG?

    Hi everybody,

    Hi,
    I’m going to
help here since Paul is out of the office, so far you have been able to use
Paul’s example to generate a signal from a Wav File, right? I have a question:
why did you combine some of the parts of the (fm-modulation) with the generate
FM signal from WAV file if the example Paul attached is already modulating the
    signal?
I have another question on the part
that you are stuck when reading the file, do you want to play it back through
your speakers or you just want to be able to see the array of samples? Have you
seen the example “MT niRFSA Demodulate FM.vi”? And if so why it does not help? Here
is another example for FM modulation: Sound File Frequency
Modulated Generation using NI-567x I would like to let you know that all
those examples Paul and I are giving you are located at our website most are
free and you may find them yourself; if you have the necessary drivers and
toolkits installed you should be good to go. “The examples
available do not show what I'm searching for” What are you
searching for? What type of analysis do you need to perform?
    Remember
that in the RFSA part of your project what you are going to be receiving will
be an array that contains all the points of your data not a WAV file. I will suggest trying to
run both FM example the RFSG and RFSA with no modification for a better
    understanding of what is happening.

  • Phase measurement RFSG RFSA

    Hello,
Currently, I work with RFSA and RFSG to analyse signal wich is generated by the RFSG. I would like to measure phase in my RFSG module to do the AM/PM characteristics. For now, i didn't find any functions to measure this phase. Moreover, i found a function for phase measurement for RFSA but it did not work. This function is Get Frequency where we can have phase too.
So i would like help to measure phase in RFSG and RFSA .
    Thanks for your help

You should be able to measure phase directly from the IQ samples returned fro the RFSG ( arctan(Q/I) ).  However, there is a simple polymorphic VI that you feed in IQ samples....and out comes magnitude or phase.  I can't remember the exact name of the VI, but it's easy to find.
Note...if you don't lock the RFSG and RFSA together via the 10MHz reference....the phase you measure may be corrupted due to clock drift.  Locking the two via the 10MHz reference will eliminate the frequency drift between the clocks....though you may end up with some constant phase offset that you could then subtract off.  However...this constant offset would likely be different every time you turned the devices on and off.

    Hi,
    Here are some possible reasons...
    1. The connection seems to have been dropped by the server.
    2. A non-suuported HTTP version or format was used.
    - HTTP 1.0 does not issue Status Lines that begin with "HTTP/1.1", so
if you expect a different version and it is not there, then this would
be an Exception (to the rule).
    3. Packets are being dropped without retransmission from the server.
    4. Non-Implemented Method (GET, HEAD, POST, TRACE, DELETE, PUT), if you
expect to get a POST and in reality get a TRACE, then the line will be different and could possibly cause an error (but an exception?).
    5. A timeout or connection was reset.

  • E75 Synchronizing task with outlook

I´m using task a lot i outlook but the problem is that when you synchronizing (Using Mail for Exchange) task with E75 then the time is set to 00.00 insted of, example 09:00 that was set in outlook. So when the task "come back" after the synchronizing the task in outlook is set to 00:00. Not good at all. I get the reminder from E75 i the middle of the night.
Any have the same problem and find any solutions?

Hi manta, thanks for your reply.
-do you have contacts both in Outlook and phone ?
    Yes I do.
    - why you don't want your Outlook contacts to phone ?
I tried that at first, but ended up flooding my phone with a whole lot of contacts that were (1) a duplicate of the ones on my phone and/or (2) were contacts with just emails and no phone numbers (as is the case for many of my outlook contacts).
My primary objective is to backup my mobile phone addressbook, so that if I lose the phone, I don't lose my important contacts. I was hoping to import mobile -> outlook first, clean up everything, then sync both.
But it seems even when I sync both ways, the Outlook updates my mobile, but not the other way around.
    - could you create a new contacts folder in outlook and sync the contacts from phone to that empty folder ?
How do I do that? PC Suite only gives me an option "Microsoft Outlook" or "Outlook Express". It doesn't point to any particular folder.
    Thanks for the help.

  • What is my best option for synchronizing tasks (to-dos)/calendars on my iPhone with an Apple Mac?

I currently have an iPhone 3GS (will upgrade to 5 when available) and Windows XP PC (soon to be retired!) and happily sync my to-do's/calendar between Appigo To-do/iphone Calendar on my iPhone and MS Outlook 2007 on my PC.
Looking ahead I want to buy a Mac of some kind but before I do so, I'd like to try and find answers to the following questions.
1.) What are my options for synchronizing tasks / calendar on my iPhone with an Apple Mac?
2.) Which is recommended as the best?
3.) Which options should I avoid?
    Thanks in advance!
    Mark

    You have 2 options:
    1)  Ensure in all cases "store email on the server" is set.  I suspect on one device it's not set.
    2) (preferred IMO) On all devices, set option to bcc: yourself to true.  This way you always get all the emails and can file them via IMAP, and they'll be everywhere (with mail headers which preserves sent date.  "sent messages" often DOES NOT preserve the sent date)
