Synchronize a folder

Hi,
I have to do this job: I have a folder, with the same name, on my iMac and on my MacBook; I work on my MacBook away from home, when I come back and I connect to AirPort network I would like that iMac download that folder from MacBook (or MacBook upload it to iMac).
Automator or Applescript?
How to do it?

  • Blackberry Desktop Software only synchronizes with folder Outlook in Microsoft Outlook

Blackberry Desktop Software only synchronizes with folder Outlook in Microsoft Outlook.  But, folders (.PST files) may be renamed and there may be multiple such folders open in Outlook at any time.  I have six, none of which is named Outlook.  Two of those are archival and four are associated and named for email addresses. The Desktop software should list the pst files checkboxes to indicate whether synchronization should be performed with them.

Well I believe I have figured out the answer to my own question, I ended up having to do a repair installation for Office 2010 and I was able to sync from outlook to the Blackberry.

  • LR3: Synchronize Folder a step back

If I synchronize a folder that has several subfolders, I can no longer de-select any of the subfolders. This is a huge step back and I thought it would be resolved in the final version.
Also, I really wonder why now there are those completely different dialogs for Import/Synchronize Folder and Import from Catalog. Doesn't make sense.
    Thomas

I found a solution (at least in my case). It's so simple as this: just batch rename every problematic file using its own name within Lightroom. I don't know why, but after doing it LR doesn't find "new" pictures (already existing in the catalog).
    Hope this can help you.

  • Synchronize folder not working in Lightroom 5.7

When I synchronize a folder in Lightroom 5.7 it shows 'Task completed', but nothing happens and Lightroom does not respond anymore. Any advice? Running on Windows 8.1..

I found the issue: From the event viewer I found that there was a problem with a Wifi Scale that my pc was trying to connect to. After removing all references to that device in the registry and restarting windows, Lighroom was working again. Seems perhaps far fetched, but I tested after every small step I tried, and it sounds somewhat similar to the connected phone issues mentioned on the forum..

  • Slow folder synchronization on windows 8.1 LR4.4

    Hi there,
I need a small feedback from you. I have LR4.4 installed on both Mac OS 10 (MacBook air) and Win8.1 and I see that mac version is able to access my photos on network storage (synology disk station) much faster than windows version. The difference in speed, for example for synchronizing the folder with 50000 photos took only 15 min to show the number of photos to be synchronized on Mac compared to half day on win8.1. Further, Mac version took only less than an hour to actually synchronize the folder compared to almost a day that win version took. Can you tell if this difference is natural due to OS differences or if there is any problem with the windows version of the LR or other network settings I have to check on windows. I access the sinology over wifi on both Mac and windows machines. Thanks a lot for your valuable time and help in this regard.

    Hi,
Here is a similar thread on Group Policy forum:

Several possible solutions are delivered including:
    1. Try to enable the following setting:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\ Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon
    2. Run a RSOP to see the applied group policies and check if any conflict occurs which cause the issue.
    3. Test to recreate user profile (as the last reply mentioned) to see if issue still exists.

  • Synchronize Folder problem - LR finds missing photos that aren't missing

    A bit of background:
I decided to dive in and clean up a big 40K catalog I have. This involved:
    Moving images around
    Creating new folders
    Renaming existing folders
    Renaming all photos
All of this was done within LR to avoid problems. But now, everything is working fine, LR does not complain that there are missing photos EXCEPT when I try to synchronize a folder.
The strange this is there is no question mark on the images and when I use the Find Missing Photos, LR tells me that there are no missing photos.
But when I try to synchronize a folder (any), it finds all the images as new images and suggests to remove the missing photos (both matching the exact number of images). Obviously I don't want to do that and loose my edits...
I found some information here, it seems to be an old bug but no solutions work for me... I really don't want to go back and redo all this work. Is there a magic trick?
    Thanks!

Thanks but this a completely different problem. You are referring to the "Treat JPEG files next to RAW files as separated photos" setting that I have unchecked purposely and I do not shoot RAW + Jpeg anyways.
Your issue is a normal behavior. LR assumes that Jpeg+RAW shooters will only required the RAW to be imported in LR unless you change that setting.
My problem was a very specific instance where the volume name did not match case with the folder names in LR. As soon as I fixed that, it went back to normal.

  • Photos in a folder (Windows 8 tablet) will not import

I have photos that I have added to my tablet from my desktop computer. These images show up using Windows Explorer and any other programs on the tablet. These images also have been loaded into Lightroom (they all show up) on my desktop computer (Windows 7). When I try to synchronize the folder Lightroom says there are images that need to be added to Lightroom, but once Lightroom tries to add those images (not all of the images in the folder) it says there are "There are no photos or video to load". In other words I think Lightroom thins the images are there but also that they are not in Lightroom. Please help me figure out how to get the images into Lightroom on my tablet.

Normally, this failure to synchronize means the photos are already in your Lightroom catalog, and there is no need for you to import them again.
I would use Lightroom to search for the photos in the catalog. Please go to the Library Module and follow all of these steps in sequence:
Go to the Catalog Panel in the Library Module and click on All Photographs
turn off all filters (Ctrl-L once or twice)
use the filter bar to search for one of the problem photos by file name

  • Lightroom synchronization trying to drop all my photos

    Hello,
I recently installed OSX LR4, and was happily using it for a couple days on an upgraded LR3 catalog, but now when I go to synchronize any folder it will say (for example):
    Import new photos (252)
Removing missing photos from catalog (252)
If I click "Show Missing Photos", it shows all the photos, and if I go to "Show In Finder" they are all there and there seems to be no recently modified files or anything suspicious looking. If I go ahead with the synchronization, I lose all the metadata, settings, etc from the photos. I also tried opening the old catalog in LR3 and the same issue exists.
Why is Lightroom doing this? Any ideas how to get around it? File permissions maybe?
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

    It seems related to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/608096
I am not using any special characters and haven't renamed any directories. When I try to create a new catalog, and then import the directory structure from the original, it seems to load up most of the metadata just fine, but in the "Folders" section, some of the subdirectories are shown as being all in lowercase when they aren't that way on the filesystem (e.g. LR shows "nex-5n", the filesystem shows "NEX-5N".
I'm scared of losing all the work I've done on this catalog

  • Shared Review: Synchronization issues... Help!

    Hi!
    Context:
We make extensive use of Adobe Acrobat for shared reviews using email attachments and links.
A couple of writers in the team have upgraded to use Adobe Acrobat XI Pro with others using Pro 9.
Our shared email reviews make use of an internal web server folder
    Problems:
During a recent trial using PDFs sent as links, we have encountered a significant number of cases where comments were:
    a) Not visible to all reviewers/initiator.
    b) Visible to the reviewer adding the comment, but not visible to others.
    c) Lost to all users.
Note, that we experienced the same issues when using PDF sent as email attachments.
In most instances, we have been able to access the internal web server folder and see the review PDF with associated XML review files, using Windows Explorer or a Web browser. However at times we have also lost review comments, where the XML files were not created.
We have a number of reviewers that work from various locations and connect using VPN and the local network. In all situations, the Web server folder can be accessed and updated by the user.
Whilst different connections may cause problems for Adobe Acrobat, we have experienced situations where:
    The Publish button was clicked
The PDF was closed and no warning was given that review feedback was not saved in the Web server folder.
    Related Issue from 2010:
In my search for answers, I came across the following entry from 2010, that refers to Adobe Acrobat Pro 9:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3325019#3325019
Today, I opened a review file with review XML files visible in the Web server folder, however Adobe Acrobat XI PRO did not display any comments.
However, after removing the contents of the \AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Synchronizer\resources folder,  Adobe Acrobat displayed all comments as expected.
    Solution ?
I cannot expect all initiators and reviewers to clear down the \synchronizer\resources folder on a regular basis to clear out issues with the files created by Adobe Acrobat.
Similarly, I cannot expect reviewers to restrict working on shared reviews to when they are directly connected to the office network rather than via VPN.
The "solution" presented in the above entry suggests a temporary workaround, however, given that the entry was reported 3 years ago with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, I am concerned that this issue continues to persist through to Adobe Acrobat XI Pro!
Can anyone suggest a more permenant solution to the problems above?
    Just a thought...
Is it possible and straightforward to switch off the Adobe synchronizer?
What would be the impact of switching off the Adobe synchronizer?

    Hi there,
I am having a similar problem, wherein I could not reliably retrieve comments on a PDF for which I was the review initiator. It seemed I had fixed the problem by manually deleting all the resource files. I was able to reply to comments and publish new comments. However, now I am not able to retrieve my own comments, nor can anybody else (other non-reviewers) see the comments I published.
I am looking at the XML files on our server that hosts our PDFs and there is one XML file that I believes pertains to the comments I made and published.  However, it is empty of comments. I'm pretty desperate to retrieve these comments, as they represent a day or so of work for me and other innocent third parties.
Is there any other way to retrieve these comments? I have a bunch of deleted "resources" files from last week, I'm wondering if there is any way to force-sync to one of these resource files?  Might the resource files contain my comments?  I can't accept that the comments are just lost in the ether when I was getting "successfully published" messages from Adobe each time I clicked "publish comments."
Another thing to note:  Every time I open the "_review.pdf" file, the "Welcome Back to Shared Review" screen shows a different server name in the "Review Server" line.  That seems a bit troubling, no?  Is it possible that my XML files are stored on a different server than the server that hosts the PDF file?  In which case I can troll through all of our servers for the XML files that contain the missing PDF comments?
    Help help please help.

  • Synchronize creates duplicates in data base

I import photos from the memory card to a folder. Regardless of import from a device or disk, convert to DNG or just copy the files I get duplicates if I try to synchronize the folder. If I remove the last created duplicate import and synchronize the folder, the files are duplicated again. If I remove the first imported photos and then synchronize, no duplicates are created. Don't import suspected duplicates is checked. This makes the synchronize command unusable for me. Is there a way around this?

Yes, all files are duplicated. As far as I have checked this occurs consistently.
Yes, as I already wrote Don't import suspected duplicates is checked
The reason I synchronize is exactly according to the help text:
"When you synchronize folders, you have the option of adding files that have been added to the folder but not imported into the catalog, removing files that have been deleted, and scanning for metadata updates. The photo files in the folder and all subfolders can be synchronized. You can determine which folders, subfolders, and files are imported."

  • Looking for the perfect workflow on two computers and backup photo's and synchronize LR 5

I work on two computers. A workstation in the studio and a laptop. I have a harddisk inside the computer containing all photo's. I have a external disk to backup these photo's.
On the worksation LR catalog sits on a second internal disk. LR runs from another disk. (On the laptop LR runs and contains the catalog on the same disk)
When working on location I download my photo's to this external harddisk. I also use this external disk to work on my photo's on location (home) with my laptop. Back in the studio I sync the internal and external harddisks.
I work with LR5 on both the computer and the laptop. After synchronizing the harddisks I open LR and synchronize the folder(s) using " Synchronize Folder ".
The adjustments I made to the photo's are still there because LR stores these in the RAW files and I use " Include Develop settings in metadata inside JPEG, TIFF, PNG and PSD files "
But the Virtual copies are not there. I understand why this is happening. I read all about exporting and importing Catalogs.
How can I synchronize the LR catalog?
For example. I worked on location. I imported the photo's to the external disk attached to the laptop. I worked on the photo's using LR on the laptop. The next day I want to work on them in the studio using my computer.
In order not to lose any adjustments and virtual copies I have te export the folder containing the new photo's and import them with LR on my studio computer. I have to include the RAW files in this export: " Export negative files "
    What is the problem?
So I will need another harddisk. Next the export takes forever. Then I have to import it again. Takes forever too. When I synchronize the harddisk (using synchronizing software) it goes very quickly. But I lose the virtual copies because the LR catalog cannot be synchronized .
I tried to export the new files as a catalog without "Export negative files" and then after synchronizing the harddisks import this catalog on the second computer.
    This is what happens:
LR does not see the photo's are already there. The option to import only the metadata is grayed out. It is not possible to tell LR where it should import the photo's. Then LR could see the files are already there and it only has to import the metadata changes.
Because I need to work on my photo's in the studio and on location this is realy a big problem.
I know I can work from a external disk on both computers. But that will slow down the workflow extremely because the catalog and the photo's are on the same disk. There are 261.216 photo's in this catalog. So export as a catalog back and forth is not a option.
Using Export As A Catalog also is a problem.
When I import new photo's from my camera (card) it is possible to tell LR where to store the files using a Date Format.
    I use YYYY / YYYY-MM / YYYY-MM-DD:
But when I want to Import From A Other Catalog and tell LR where to store the files it does not see the folder structure already exciting. This a root problem. So it will put the folders where I direct it to and then I have to move the new photo's manually to the correct folders.
If the folder already excists it cannot merge them. In that case I have to move the new photo's from each day into the appropriate folder for each day !
This folder structure is important for me because many older photo's are not taged, but are easy to be found by date.
I probably are overlooking something and the solution is very simple. But I cannot find it ...
QUESTION : can anyone tell me what would be the best workflow in my case ? And still have a fast system ?

Here's what I do with the laptop/desktop workflow. Dedicate an big, fast external drive and place ALL Photo's, LR's catalog and presets (set preferences to Store Preset's with Catalog). You have one drive that has all the data you need to access your images and database on any number of computers. All the computer needs is a working copy of Lightroom. Clone that external drive to the backup drive, a 2nd external. Make as many clone's as you wish (one offsite, one in a fire proof safe, one to take on location etc). When one drive has newer data, just clone that to the others, they are all now in sync. One catalog. One master drive. The drive has all images and necessary associated files LR needs to work with (the expectation is lens and DNG camera profiles, the later can be embedded into a DNG and is thus on the drive too).

  • 1.1.4 and problems synchronize my pictures

everything else works fine. as soon as i want to synchronize a folder with pictures the synchronization is in an endless loop.
does anyone has e good idea how to solve the problem?
    bernd

Try creating a new folder and moving literally just a couple of the photos over to the new folder, and set that to be the only photo folder that syncs. If that works then add a few more photos, and try again. You may have a corrupt file that is causing problems.

  • Problem Syncronizing Folder in V. 5.4 (and 5.3)

Hi - I first noticed this in version 5.3, and hoped that version 5.4 would fix it but it hasn't. I am running Win 7 64 bit professional. No apparent issues with hardware. Optimized the catalog a few days ago.
In the Library module, if I point to a folder and right mouse button click I get an option to synchronize the folder. A dialog box pops up with 4 checkboxes.
In my example the top checkbox says "Import new photos(2)" which is checked,
The next says "Show import dialog before importing" which I first tried with it unchecked (the default).
The next option (which is grayed out) says remove missing photos.
Finally, the option to scan for metadata updates is checked.
Clicking on the sychronize button results in the message "No photos or videos were found to import" (in spite of first saying that there were 2 new photos).
If I check the show import dialogue box I, the syncronize button produces the import  dialog window with an empty new photos window.
So the problem seems to be that somehow the synchronize dialog first (correctly ot incorrectly) identifies two new files, but then can't find them when it actually comes to importing them.
    Any solutions would be appreciated.

The problem with the Folder synchronise process is that it is in two stages.....the first being a prima facie check for new files (2 in your case), the second being a more thorough check of the potential new files in accordance with your previous import options.....including the "Don't import suspected duplicates" option.
So, if that check-box is typically checked during import, AND if the two new files are in fact already in the catalog, then there will be zero files imported. You can check this by running the Synchronise again, make sure you have the Import dialog selected, when that opens uncheck the "Suspected Duplicates" check-box and see if those two files now appear.
That may be the problem, or it may be something related to the type of files that Lightroom doesn't like.

  • Feature Request: Auto-Synchronize Folders

    Hi
It is a hell of a palaver to synchronize a folder within LR when a new image is added. You have to go through the whole import dialog thing and then navigate back to the folder you want.
Would love a more streamlined process, preferably in which LR simply recognises that a new image has been added, and imports automatically without the user having to do anything, or failing that just importing and adding without the dialog box on a right-click option
    Any thoughts ?

When you right-click on a folder and choose Synchronize Folder, the dialog that is presented has an option to show, or not, the import dialog. Uncheck the option. Any new photos in the folder (LR tells you how many it found) will be imported without "having to go through the whole import dialog thing".
I'd much rather have the control over what gets synchronized than having an "automatic" way that could result in lots of stuff in the LR catalog I didn't want.
