Synchronous request = Bad?

See
http://ajaxblog.com/archives/2005/05/25/synchronous-requests-bad
Since htmldb_Get, by default, does synchronous requests, it is interesting to read that article in that context.
Guess, it all comes down to judicious use of the AJAX feature, keeping in mind how long the request is going to take to complete on the server, network latency, etc. etc.
Anyway, just thought it was an interesting read.
Thanks

Hello,
Well that is an opinion but it is also a blanket statement. For large or slow pulls of content Synchronous it is a bad choice, for quick small snippets of a page to update which is what I find AJAX is most useful it is the proper choice. Like you say you need to keep in mind what your doing and how long that might take to server it to the end user.
In my experience it's the exception that proves the rule. Out of my examples that use AJAX I only really ran into one that 'needs' asynchronous requests, which is why I had to build the extension to the htmldb_Get() object.
Synchronous will continue to be the default but you can expect to see greater Asynchronous functionality built in future versions.

  • No synchronous Request/Reply option in B2B config wizard step 5 of 7 ?

    I have a customer running SOA Suite 11.1.1.5 who has created a BPEL process
    and added a B2B partner link to the reference swim lane.
    They want to send a 270 document to a partner and receive a 271 on the same HTTP Channel as a Sync Req/Reply
    When the customer runs the B2B wizard, it successfully connects to their WLS Server and at
    Step 5 of 7 in the wizard they see radio buttons for
    o Send
    o Receive
    They do not have radio buttons further down for
    o Synchronous Request/Response
    o Outbound
    o Inbound
    Does anyone have any ideas why not?
    I have a sample running on my local server which is also 11.1.1.5 and

    Bob,
    I don't think PS4 (11.1.1.5) has this option available -

  • Weblogic temporary or synchronous request/reply queue

    Hi,

  • Implementing synchronous request response behaviour with JMS

    i have a requirement wherein i send a list of tasks to be executed (this has to be executed in parallel so taking the JMS route) and should wait for the results of al these tasks. How could i do this with JMS? I need JMS since the originally these tasks was being done using threading and since in j2ee it is not advisable to spawn threads we are planning to use JMS so that we can have concurrency that is done by the container. can someone please tell how can i simulate this synchronous request-response paradigm using JMS?

    It may not be great idea however possibility of State full session bean can be explored.
    State full session bean will send all 100 tasks to JMS queue without waiting for the result. There will be another JMS program (Say ResponseCollector) which will listen on queue for all responses. Once ResponseCollector collects all the responses, it will trigger the state full session bean again.
    You can use some properties in JMS header to discriminate between the request and response on same queue and apply the message selector.

  • RV042 v3 - Block WAN Request - bad implemented!

    Hello,
    I would like to ask You if You have same problem as me. I would like to allow PING on RV042 from WAN side only from specific IP address, but when I set the rule, RV042 does not respond on WAN side, because Block WAN Request is Enabled.
    BUT! When I disable "Block WAN Requests", now any IP can ping my router from WAN side. Although I set access rule to Deny Ping from WAN side to anyone, it still responds.
    Do you know sollution?

    Good morning
    Thanks for using our forum
    Hi Tomas Zavodny  my name is Johnnatan and I am part of the Small business Support community
    I'm not sure if you  disable the option “Block Wan Request” your device creates  a rule in the firewall, can you check this? if your device creates the rule, follow this procedure
    In this priority order, create 2 rules in your firewall device.
    1. A rule that allow ping  your device from your specific source(s) address(es)
    2A rule that deny ping from any other source.
    3 With the lowest priority, the rule that your device creates.
    I hope you find this answer useful, if it was satisfactory  for you, please mark the question as Answered.
    Please rate post you consider useful.
    Greetings,
    Johnnatan Rodriguez Miranda.
    Cisco network support engineer.
    Cisco has a very useful tool called GuideMe, is made for small business products, and your device is in this category, you can use this address for accesing the tool: http://sbkb.cisco.com/CiscoSB/Loginr.aspx?alt1 = & pid = 4 & eroute = Super, is very easy to use, just complete the 3  spaces on this way:
    Select a category: (Select the device type on request), eg Routers
    Enter model: (Type the model on request), eg RV042
    Question: (Type what  you want to know  about the device), eg VPN
    And it'll be showing all the information you need about what you wrote.

    WebDispatcher?Can you give us some advice?

    Hi,
    The answer from SAP:
    The maximum size of request URI is hard coded in kernel, and it cannot be configured by a parameter. The maximum size of PATH is 4096, and the maximum size of query string is 4096 as well.
    If the request is a post request, you have to ask the calling side to move some name value pairs from query string to the POST body.
    If it is a GET request, you have to ask the calling side to change it to POST and move value pairs to the POST body.
    Kind Regards

  • FBU Internal Job Queue Full for Synchronous Processing of Print Requests

    Hello All,
    We are getting a lot of errors in system log (SM21) with the
    Error : FBU Internal Job Queue Full for Synchronous Processing of Print Requests
    User :SAPSYS
    MNO:FBU
    =============================================================
    Documentation for system log message FB U :
    If a spool server is to process output requests in the order they were
    created using multiple work processes, the processing of requests for a
    particular device can only run on one work process. To do this an
    internal queue (limited size) is used.
    If too many requests are created for this device too quickly, the work
    process may get overloaded. This is recognized when, as in this case,
    the internal queue is exhausted.
    This can only be solved by reducing the print load or increasing
    processor performance or, if there is a connection problem to the host
    spooler, by improving the transfer of data to the host spooler.
    Increasing the number of spool work processes will not help, as
    requests for one device can only be processed by one work process. If
    processing in order of creation is not required, sequential request
    processing can be deactivated (second page of device configuration in
    Transaction SPAD). This allows several work processes to process
    requests from the same device thus alleviating the bottleneck.
    Enlarging the internal queue will only help if the overload is
    temporary. If the overload is constant, a larger queue will eventually
    also be overloaded.
    ===========================================================
    Can you please tell me how to proceed.
    Best Regards,
    Pratyusha

    Solution is here:
    412065 - Incorrect output sequence of output requests
    Reason and Prerequisites
    The following messages appear in the developer trace (dev_trc) of the SPO processes or in the syslog:
    S  *** ERROR => overflow of internal job queue [rspowunx.c   788]
    Syslog Message FBU:
    Internal job queue for synchronous request processing of output requests full
    The "request processing sequence compliance" on a spool server with several SPO processes only works provided the server-internal job queue (see Note 118057) does not overflow. The size of this request queue is prepared using the rspo/global_shm/job_list profile parameter. The default value is 50 requests. However, if more output requests arrive for the spool server than can be processed (and the internal request queue is full as a result), more SPO processes are used to process the requests (in parallel), and the output sequence of the requests is no longer guaranteed.
    Solution
    Increase the rspo/global_shm/job_list profile parameter to a much larger value. Unfortunately, the value actually required cannot be found by "trial and error" because this queue contains all the incoming output requests on a spool server, not just the "sequence compliant" requests. A practical lower limit for this value represents the maximum sequence-compliant output requests for the above generated output device. If, for example, 1000 documents that should be output in sequence are issued from an application program to an output device, the queue must be able to hold 1000 entries so that it does not overflow if the SPO process processes the requests at a maximum low-speed.

  • Controlling the no. of retries for a synchronous database request

    I have a synchronous send step in an Integration process to make a query to a database. I want the BPM to stop processing in case the synchronous request is not answered after 3 retries. Can the addition of a wait step in the Integration process help in this case, if it can where should it be added? Also can the JDBC comm channel parameter 'No. of retries of Database transaction on SQL error' help in this regard?
    Edited by: diptee s on Jul 11, 2010 7:55 AM
    Edited by: diptee s on Jul 11, 2010 8:09 AM

    Thats riight. Also this will set the status of BPM to 'Error'
    Now, in my system we have a background job which runs every 15 minutes and resarts all the BPMs which are in error at that moment.
    This allows my BPM to resend the sync message and wait for a response when they are restarted.
    What I want to be acheiving here is that my BPM shud stop after sending 3 such sync send i.e. 1 at the initial start and the other 2 after the BPM restart (due to the above mentioned background job).
    I tried using a deadline branch for this; however whatever time i put in the dealine condition, the 1st BPM which starts never ends and some of the following BPMs wait after the sync send steps has been running for 6 minutes & 2 seconds some others never end like the first one.
    Would you be able to explain the working of a deadline branch for a sync send request?
    Note: I have also tried using a exception branch but this does not allow my BPM to be restrarted and hence send the sync request more than once, in case the first sync send does not receive a response within the HTTP timeout.

    Hi David,
    Not exactly sure what the issue is here, but would like to give you some pointers that might help anyway. The error message you see in the ICM would be where I would start. You need to remember that the HTTP request is more than just the URL that you paste into the browser, the URL is one part of it, but there are a heap of other things that go into making the full HTTP request (e.g. POST data, header values etc...)
    I would also refer you to this forum post: Re: 400 Bad HTTP request that references SAP Note 864878
    Hope this helps,

  • Removing synchronous ajax as planned deprecation is a bad idea

    Well that wasn't a question, but I have some serious misgivings about your proposed idea to get rid of synchronous ajax. Your site says:
    Note: Starting with Gecko 30.0 (Firefox 30.0 / Thunderbird 30.0 / SeaMonkey 2.27), synchronous requests on the main thread have been deprecated due to the negative effects to the user experience.
    As a simple developer of web forms, I assume that I am using the "main thread" and will be affected. Some of my forms are built dynamically and data is sometimes fetched dynamically as well. If I open a form for a user I may need to pre-populate the form fields with some data. In that case, I'd have to get the data (via synchronous ajax) before showing the form. This is a simple case and I think a common one. Am I missing something or am I just screwed?

    See:
    *https://developer.mozilla.org/Mozilla/Firefox/Releases/30/Site_Compatibility
    It hasn't been removed in Firefox 30, but is merely tagged as deprecated
    <blockquote>Synchronous XMLHttpRequest has been deprecated
    * Bug 969671 – Warn about use of sync XHR in the main thread
    The async argument of the XMLHttpRequest constructor is true by default, and false makes the request synchronous. Developers now get an warning in the Web Console if a synchronous request is used on the main thread, or the outside of workers, since it's now considered deprecated due to the negative effects to the user experience.</blockquote>

  • Unable to get Fault in reply from Synchronous BPEL Process

    Hi All,
    I am using a synchronous BPEL process which always throws a fault. The structure of this fault message is added to <bpel_process_name>.xsd.
    For WSDL faults I have added the following in .wsdl file:
    </wsdl:message>
    <wsdl:message name="BusinessFault">
    <wsdl:part name="payload" element="client:faultarea"/>
    </wsdl:message>
    <wsdl:portType name="FaultBPELProcess">
    <wsdl:operation name="process">
    <wsdl:input message="client:FaultBPELProcessRequestMessage"/>
    <wsdl:output message="client:FaultBPELProcessResponseMessage"/>
    <wsdl:fault message="client:BusinessFault" name="BusinessFault" />
    </wsdl:operation>
    </wsdl:portType>
    Now when I invoke this BPEL process, the fault is thrown and caught by the catch block at main scope. this catch assigns some values to the fault message and returns it back to the calling party.
    Fault QName is defined in the reply activity of catch block.
    On testing it, the reply never comes back and I can see the following error message in the logs:
