Syncing with new computer not working

My company gave me an upgrade to a DELL Latitude E6500 and ever since, the calendar on the  phone will update when I update on the computer, but the computer won't update when I add a calendar item on the phone.  I've synced manually and checked the setting that I think would be the cause.  Any thoughts?
PS - my email updated and syncs fine.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in iTunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

Hmm.. Thank you for the response.
Have you tried using the iPod with another user account or computer, to help narrow down whether the problem lies with the computer, account, or the iPod itself?
Maybe try reformatting it, using the tools provided by Windows. Instructions on how to reformat your iPod can be found in this article.

  • Our old computer crashed which had all the kids ipod touch library on it. Now when I connect ipods to new computer it says I have to erase all the app, etc to sync with new computer. Is there anyway to sync to the new computer w/out losing all data?

Our old computer crashed which had all the kids ipod touch library on it. Now when I try to connect them to new computer it says I need to erase all data, apps, etc. to sync with new computer. It is saying that it can only be connected to one library at a time. Is their anyway around this without having ot erase all their stuff?

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like on of those discussed here:
    newer copy
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

You'll need to connect the iPod Touch to your iTunes library in recovery mode and restore it factory settings.  There is no other way.

  • HT4059 Backing up iBooks to sync with new computer

I just purchased a new MacBook pro and need to sync my iPad to it. I have several books with notes and underlining I don't want to lose, not to mention, the organization of the books and PDF files.
I setup itunes on the new computer by copying over the files and bringing in the library file. That all worked great. When I hookup my iPad, however, it knows it has never synced with this computer so it wants to wipe it out and start over. I'm guessing that means I'll lose all the iBooks stuff, plus the other notes and things I've saved in other apps.
Can you help me get around this? Thanks!!

  • IPhone 4 won't sync with new computer

When I connect my iPhone 4 to my computer, music, movies, and apps don't sync to the phone from the computer. I just switched computers and this was the first sync with the new computer. I've tried syncing with this computer multiple times, but the only things still on the phone are contacts, apps from before the switch, and music I've bought within the past few days on the device. I was using a Mac OS X Snow Leopard (pretty sure) and the new computer is a Mac OS X Lion.

Just checked my iTunes, don't seem to be having this problem. Here is what I can recommend:
    Restart iTunes, it may help
    Restart Computer if 1 fails.
If you're on Mac, update to latest iTunes (released today)
Restart iPhone and then iTunes and then plug it in

       1. Open the System Configuration utility (msconfig.exe). You can do that by typing msconfig at the Start screen and pressing Enter.
       2. On the Services tab, set the Hide all Microsoft services check box and then click Disable all.
       3. On the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager, right-click and disable each Startup item. Then close Task Manager.
       4. Back on the System Configuration screen, click OK, and restart the computer.

    Hello tysonmgr,
    And welcome to Apple Discussion
I think your option here would be to copy the music currently on your iPod to your new computer. From there, you can restore the iPod via iTunes and then sync all your old and new content to it.
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. Also keep in mind that the articles may be written for Windows XP, so the steps might have to be altered slightly.
Actually this article here was written for both Windows XP and Vista.
    http://ipodtips-tricks.blogspot.com/2008/10/howto-transfer-music-from-ipodto-itu nes.html
You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • Sync with new computer

I have an old G4 that I use for my personal photos and music. I synced it once about 1 1/2 years ago to the ATV and since then have been streaming from other computers and buying content directly on the ATV. Sometime in the past year I erase and installed the operating systems on all our computers. Everything is backed up, but I can no longer sync to the G4 without losing the content on the ATV. I really wouldn't care except that I have two purchased movies on there.

Sorry to say, but the ATV is an extension of your library containing copies, not backups. A sync should of been done prior to you clearing your computers drive and a backup made. Now as for as the ATV is concerned, any other computer (even the one it was synced with before) is new, thus has to be setup as new and any attempt to setup a new syncing computer will as you found out, erase any content on the ATV. That is just how it works.
Normal usage is if you opt to sync, then that computer is the "primary" library that all content will be accessed from. If something is bought on the ATV, the user is supposed to now and then open iTunes on that computer and it will automatically sync over any content that is on the ATV and not in the Library as that computer is the REAL location for your files that you are responsible for backing up.
By not syncing, you really just limited your options.
Only real option is to hack into it and for that, have to use Google.

  • Sync with palm desktop not working

I can install programs but it wonb't sync with palm dektop. I am running Windows & with palm desktop V.6.something. Its the latest one i think. I have a Zire 31. I used some software so it will sync programs but even when I save in plam desktop nothing changes! I NEED help!
    Post relates to: Zire 31

I have 32 bit. I self installed over vista Basic 32bit. It is Pro Edition of windows 7 now!
This is what i followed to get it to install:
    (Thanks smkranz)
Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
If you are using the Palm Desktop from your original installation disc on your Vista desktop, it is not compatible and the Install Tool won't work.  This is covered extensively here on the forums and in the Palm Support pages.  You will need to use the new Palm Desktop 6.2.2 by Access, which can be downloaded from the Support & Downloads link above...you might have to lie and tell it you have a different device, because PD 6.2 is technically not compatible with older Palm devices.  Then, after you install PD 6.2, go to www.pimlicosoftware.com and download/install the free PalmHotsyncSetup utility, which should add compatiblity for your device.
Note, this will probably only work if your desktop is 32-bit Vista.  If your Vista desktop is 64-bit, your only hope of syncing is Infrared beaming because there are no 64-bit drivers.  You'd also need to use an infrared (IRDA) adapter on your computer.
You also have a non-sync option of installing applications to your Zire, by first copying the .prc file to a Secure Digital card using a card reader on your computer, then putting the SD card into your Zire and using the Copy command to Copy the file from the SD card to the Zire's memory.  The file should be put in the /palm/launcher folder on the card first, then you can copy it to internal memory.
Then i set it for Newer Palm PIM devices. Thanks!

  • How can I keep a playlist on phone when syncing with new computer?

When syncing my IPhone I am prompted with an ominous message that says "Are you sure you want to remove the existing music ... from this phone and sync with this ITunes library? Music .... will be removed and items will be synced from this ITunes library" The answer is no because I have a playlist I would like to keep on the phone, but add one which resides on the computer I am attempting to sync with. That is not an choice presented, the choices are Cancel or Remove and Sync. Apple should either give more options or at least a better explanation. I have synced this phone and computer combination before but have since created a new playlist in the computer (a Mac Mini).
So how can I keep a playlist on the phone and add one from the computer too? Is it possible to view the phone as a drive and move items around in that manner? I use ITunes on both Windows and Mac platforms but this issue has always been problem for me. I also have IPhone 3 (used as an IPod), IPhone 4S and Iphone 5.

Unless you can get the iPod backup file (and restore the iPod from that file on your new computer) from the "dead" computer you will lose all the app data you can export via email.
    - Yu can trabsfer iTnes purchases from the iPod by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - You can transfer non-itunes purchased music to the new computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion.
    Best iPod to PC
    - After you move the stuff to the new computer, either restore the iPod from the backup, or if no backup, restore to factory defaults, new iPod and sync.
