Syntax errors 1093 and 1084

Hi,
I'm starting to write an app, using localized strings. But I'm getting errors in a properties file, 5 errors, in lines 8 to 12, although there's only one single line in the property file.
Pease help
thanks,
Johan

strange enough I solved this problem by changing the 'flex compiler' properties :
Additional compiler options from '-locale=eng_US/dut_NL'
changed to '-locale=eng_US,dut_NL'

  • Errors 5006 and 1084

    hey, I'm getting errors 5006 and 1084 for my script, currently I'm making a game of brick breaker and can't figure out why I'm getting these errors. I get the 1084 error when auto formatting, and I get the 5006 error when exporting to a SWF
    my code is:
    package
              import flash.display.MovieClip;
              import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;
              import flash.ui.Keyboard;
              import flash.events.*;
              public class Main extends MovieClip
                        var player:paddle;
                        var ball:ball;
                        var home:startscreen;
                        var vx1:Number = 0;
                        var vx2:Number = 0;
                        ball = new aBall(5,5);
                        ball.x = 200;
                        ball.y = 50;
                        addChild(ball);
                        stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN,onkeyDown);
                        stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, onkeyUp);
                        addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, Loop);
              public function onkeyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void
                        //player controls
                        if (event.keyCode == Keyboard.DOWN)
                                  vx1 = -10;
                        else if (event.keyCode == Keyboard.LEFT)
                                  vx1 = 10;
              function onkeyUp(event:KeyboardEvent):void
                        // stop player one

                                  vx1 = 0;
                        else if (event.keyCode == 87 || event.keyCode == 83)
                                  vx2 = 0;
              function onEdge(paddle)
                        if (paddle.x - (paddle.width/2) < 0)
                                  paddle.x = 0 + paddle.width / 2;
                        else if (paddle.x + (paddle.width/2) > stage.stageWidth)
                                  paddle.x = stage.stageWidth - paddle.width / 2;

                        player1.y +=  vy1;
                        onEdge(player);
                        if (ball.hitTestObject(player))

    Which line is line 69?  If it happens to be at or after....  if (ball.hitTestObject(player))  that line appears to be missing an opening brace { at the end, as in...
    if (ball.hitTestObject(player)) {
    As for the  5006, the problem appears to be that you need to have all your functions defined within the class definition (Main).  Yours is attempting to have two items defined public at the same class level of the file.  So you need to take what I show in red below and nest it within the public class Main section as I attempt to show below.  The blue stuff I show may or may not lead to further problems since that would be more likely to appear in an init() function within the class (I am not an expert in class matters, nor many others for that matter)
    package

  • Syntax Errors - 30025 and 30008

    Hi there,
    I'm in urgent need of some assistance!
    For some reason, and I say that because I don't know why I'm getting these errors today and I didn't when I closed the document yesterday. However, I am getting these syntax errors  see picture.
    Let me start by saying that I don't know java at all.  I am using formcalc on the calculation fields. The LeaveAnnual field is simple  MonthlySalary * 12 and that is what I'm getting the error 30008 on.  The other error codes don't make any sense to me either because they are straight from the object library.
    Any assistance you can provide is very much appreciated.

    Hi,
        I looked at your form.
         1) As Radzmar mentioned, the Annual Salary field in the first row is a Text field. It is Numeric in rest of the rows.
         2) For some reason the below fields has XML code copied to their initialize event. You need to remove the code from the Iniitalize event.
               Contact, Budget Authorization, Client Services Team, Phone Number
    Hope that helps.
    Thanks

  • Cs4 + swfObject = syntax error *sometimes*

    With CS4, on some sites I get a syntax error notice, always
    pointing to the line following the javascript for a swfObject
    insertion. But it only happens on some pages, not all. I have
    compared dtd's, css, and anything else I can think of that might be
    different, with no success in determining what is causing this. The
    page renders fine, but the yellow warning bar is a real annoyance,
    and I'd like to cure it?
    jimbo

    You are getting this syntax error IN CS4, right?

  • Location tempInit (what is it?) Syntax errors 1084 & 1086 in lines that don't exist.

    I am getting the following errors:
    tempInit, Line 280
    1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before true.
    tempInit, Line 280
    1086: Syntax error: expecting semicolon before dot.
    tempInit, Line 376
    1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before false.
    tempInit, Line 376
    1086: Syntax error: expecting semicolon before dot.
    I don't know where tempInit is in the location and I especially don't know where lines 280 or 376 are because I only have 111 lines of actionscript!  I don't know where to start.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Pardon my intrusion.  I thought I'd throw this in since oddly enough it just showed up in the General forum today about an hour before you posted... it might have some info to help (or not).

  • XML syntax error 1084

    Hi,
    this is my first post on the forum and I'm a new to Flash.
    I got an error which I can't seem to figure out on my own what is the problem, I've read through some of the 1084 errors but still couldn't figure it out
    I got "1084: Syntax error: expecting rightparen before colon" on this line: myXML = new XML(e:target.data);
    And here is the whole code:
    var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,onLoaded);
    var myXML:XML;          // Variable to hold XML class
    function onLoaded (e:Event):void{
    myXML = new XML(e:target.data);
    loader.load(new URLRequest("names.xml"));
    trace(myXML);
    Thanks in advance
    Regards Sakujin

    I've discovered the error after I got help from a friend the culprit was a colon instead of a punctation after XML(e.target.data); instead of XML(e:target.data)
    Thanks for everyone that has visited my post.

  • 1084 Syntax errors. Very basic.

    I am very new to flash and I have some very basic code that I need help with.
    Here;
    var paddlepos:int = paddle.x.position
    if; (paddlepos > 253)
        paddle.x.postition = 253;
    The errors are:
    Scene 1, Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 28    1084: Syntax error: expecting rightparen before leftbrace.
    Scene 1, Layer 'Actions', Frame 1, Line 27    1084: Syntax error: expecting leftparen before semicolon.
    Help would be very helpful. Thanks.

    there should be no semi-colon after if.

  • 1084: Syntax error: expecting rightbrace before end of program.

    So I'm doing this basic coding thing to make an object "shoot" bullets. It's from a tutorial video. My code matches his exactly unless I'm missing a tiny detail. Basically the code looks like this:
    package {
    import flash.display.Sprite;
    import flash.events.Event;
    public class bullet extends Sprite {
    private var sw:Number;
    private var sh:Number;
    private const _SPEED:int=-10;
    private const _OFFSTAGE:int=-10;
    public function bullet():void {
    addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE,onadd);
    private function onadd(e:Event):void {
    sw=stage.stageWidth;
    sh=stage.stageHeight;
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,loop);
    private function loop(e:Event):void {
    if (y<_OFFSTAGE) {
    removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,loop);
    parent.removeChild(this);
    y-=_SPEED;
    }public function removeListeners():void {
    removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,loop);
    And the compiler error I'm getting says this:
    Location:bullet.as line 31 1084: Syntax error: expecting rightbrace before end of program. Source: }
    Location:bullet.as line 31 1084: Syntax error: expecting rightbrace before end of program. Source: }
    And yes it does say it twice. What's going on?
    The vid I'm learning from is this: http://autocad.spinelink.com/adobe-flash-cs4-game-tutorial-shooting.html

    You are missing two closing curly braces at the bottom of the package declaration. You need to close the package itself and the class declaration inside.
    package {
         import flash.display.Sprite;
         import flash.events.Event;
         public class bullet extends Sprite {
              private var sw:Number;
              private var sh:Number;
              private const _SPEED:int=-10;
              private const _OFFSTAGE:int=-10;
              public function bullet():void {
                   addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE,onadd);
              private function onadd(e:Event):void {
                   sw=stage.stageWidth;
                   sh=stage.stageHeight;
                   addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,loop);
              private function loop(e:Event):void {
                   if (y<_OFFSTAGE) {
                        removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,loop);
                        parent.removeChild(this);
                   y-=_SPEED;
              public function removeListeners():void {
                   removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,loop);

  • 1093 Syntax error in Adobe devnet code?

    Hi All,
    I'm new to AC3 so maybe I'm mistaken... but I've tried to follow the steps in this Adobe AC3 tutorial: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/creating_animation_as3.html
    ..very closely and I'm getting a 1093 syntax error for the code below. Does anyone have an idea what the problem is..and what the fix would be?
    The line in red is the one that is indicated in the error message. (It's a tutorial about making a code snippet for tweening.)
    Thanks much!
    import fl.transitions.*;
    import fl.transitions.easing.*;
    * This Tween sample shows a fade-in effect
    * by default. Change the prop, to, from, and duration
    * values to change the animation. You can add code
    * in the event handler functions to respond to animation
    * event timing.
    function onTweenProgress(event:TweenEvent):void
        // do something as the tween progresses...
    function onTweenEnd(event:TweenEvent):void
       // do something when the tween ends...
    var prop:String = “alpha”;
    var from:Number = 0;
    var to:Number = 1;
    var duration:Number = 1;
    var tween:Tween = new Tween(rect_mc, alpha, Strong.easeOut, from, to, duration, true);
    tween.addEventListener(TweenEvent.MOTION_CHANGE, onTweenProgress);
    tween.addEventListener(TweenEvent.MOTION_FINISH, onTweenEnd);

    It's the double quotes that your code is using on that line.  I am guessing you copied and pasted from somewhere.  Try retyping the double quotes using your keyboard

  • 1084: Syntax error: expecting leftbrace before extend

    Hi all.  Not sure what is going on here.  I'm trying to improve my knowledge of AS 3.0.  I keep getting this error and this is a snippet of code that I copied and ran it.  I keep getting the same error '1084: Syntax error: expecting leftbrace before extend'.  Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?  Here is the code.
    package
              import flash.display.MovieClip;
              public class ActionScriptTest extend MovieClip {
                   public function ActionScriptTest(){
                                  init();
       private function init():void{
                             var bookTitle:String="Foundations";
            trace(bookTitle);

    Thanks Ned.  That was it.  Thanks for getting me unstuck.

  • 1084:Syntax error: expecting rightparen before area in Math.round

    Anyone have any idea how to fix this:
    theText.scrollV = Math.round((slider.y – area.y)*theText.maxScrollV/90);
    I'm getting error:
    1084:Syntax error: expecting rightparen before area.
    It looks like a proper statement to me... all open brackets are closed.
    Please HELP!!!

    OMG - I copied the code from a post and didn't see that. Good for you!
    Thanks!!!

  • 1084: Syntax error: expecting rightparen

    Help!!  I am new to Flash.  I am trying to make a  card flip,  I have a photo on one side and info on the next.  It is controlled by a button.  I an getting this error:
    1084: Syntax error: expecting rightparen before flip on lines 5 and 6.  I have been trying to figure it out, but am stumped.  Can anyone help? any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
    Here is my code:
    import fl.transitions.Tween;
    import fl.transitions.easing.Strong;
    import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;
    con.sidea.flip. addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, on flip);
    con.sideb.flip. addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, on flip);
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,loop);
    var isStill: Boolean=true;
    var arraytween:Array = new Array ();
    function onflip (e:Event) {
        if (isStill)  {
            arraytween.push (new Tween (con,'rotationY', Strong.easeOut,con.rotationY,con.rotationY+180,1,true));
            arraytween [0] .addEventListener(TweenEvent.MOTION_FINISH,reset);
            isStill=false;
    function reset (e:Event)  {
        isStill=true;
        arraytween=[];
    function  loop(e:Event)  {
        if (con.rotationY>=90  && con.rotationY<=270)  {
            con.addChild(con.sideb);
        }else {
            con.addChild(con.sidea);
            con.scaleX=1;
        if (con.rotationY>=360) {
            con.rotationY=0;

    It is hard to tell if it is actual or something the forum did (which it does), but you should not have spaces where there appear to be...
    con.sidea.flip. addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, on flip);
    con.sideb.flip. addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, on flip);
    should be...
    con.sidea.flip.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onflip);
    con.sideb.flip.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onflip);

  • Syntax Error 1084

    ICan someone help, please? I'm having trouble with ActionScript 3.0, and I keep getting an error:
    1084:syntax error: expecting rightparen before colon
    And this is the script:
    home_button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, takeHome);
    function takeHome(evt:MouseEvent){
        gotoAndStop(1)
    flash_button.addEventListener(event:MouseEvent)void:)
        nextFrame(2);
    clients_button.addEventListener(event:MouseEvent)void:
        nextFrame(3);
    If anyone can see anything wrong with this, I'd be more than grateful.

    There are a number of errors.  The following lines are correctly written... so based the rest of the code you show on their example...
    home_button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, takeHome);
    function takeHome(evt:MouseEvent):void {
        gotoAndStop(1);
    Also, nextFrame() does not accept a numeric argument... it only goes to the next frame in case you are trying to go more than that.

  • AVG calculation and syntax error while parsing a named query

    Hi all,
    I've to calcolate the average of polling results for each value column (5 value column in total). I want to use this single row result line for a bar graph.
    I created a new named query in the EJB:
    @NamedQueries({
      @NamedQuery(name = "Polls.findAll", query = "select o from Polls o"),
      @NamedQuery(name = "Polls.findAVG", query = "select o AVG(Value1) as Value1, AVG(Value2)  as Value2, AVG(Value3)  as Value3, AVG(Value4)  as Value4, AVG(Value5)  as Value5 o from Polls o")   // <-- my named query
    ...I tried it in the sql query tool of Oracle 10g XE and sql syntax is ok, but when I run my javaServiceFacade on JDev I receive this message:
    Exception in thread "main" Local Exception Stack:

    ...Where is the syntax error in my named query?
    Edited by: Silicio on 22-nov-2008 1.05

    Thanks Shay, now I think syntax is correct for gain an average for each column:
    @NamedQuery(name = "Polls.findAVG", query = "select AVG(o.value1), AVG(o.value2), AVG(o.value3), AVG(o.value4), AVG(o.value5) from Polls o")But still got some trouble to get a bar graph...
    If I drag&drop that query from data control, I get an empty graph with 5 values ,look http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/8710/emptygraphag7.png .
    In the log there is some errors (due that named query and its methods in EJB):
