System start up issue

Hi guys! I do not know if this is a problem anyway but it worries me. I just bought MSI Dominator GT72 Dragon Edition yesterday. I enjoy using the laptop but the start up really bothers me very much.
The laptop is switched off for few hours, and when I tried to on the system by pressing the power button. The system boots up, the power button and mice indicating the system is on, screen was blank. Then I figured out, I need to wait for 3 minutes or less for the system to warm up for the first time after I leave the laptop off for few hours (I don't know if I am correct with the term warming up). After 3 minutes is up, I press the power button to switch off and press the power button again to on. Then the screen will appear with MSI logo.
Does anyone of you face this issue as well? Thanks.

Hello!
I have the same issue. Sometimes is booting form the first attempt and sometimes i need to press the power button and try one more time.
I suspect that the problem lies with the nvidia drivers; did you updated the graphic drivers from the ones provided with the laptop?
Please provide some feedback if u find a solution.
 Thanks!

  • System Start up issue in my ABAP + JAVA system

    HI,
when i try to start up my SAP (ABAP+JAVA) system, server processes fail to start. Below is the trace file.
Though it says missing file jvmx.jar, not sure if this is the reason for the start up issue.
    Thanks to check and assist.

  • Systems start-up issues - only safe mode is available

Any ideas to overcome my system start-up problem?
I have only been able to start my laptop up in safe mode today.
Attempts to overcome this by removing recently installed software and trying a systems restore to a date prior to any system changes have not been able to resolve the problem.
I followed the recommendation of looking at the systems diagnostic utility but am not really sure what I am supposed to be looking for.
Working on a computer in safe mode is not a long term option!

    Hi
I agree with you working in the safe mode is not a really a solution but why dont you reinstall the whole OS???
For me its the easiest way to bring the notebook and the OS back to the life
Usually after the usage of the Recovery installation the notebook should start like a dream ;)
If there is no hardware malfunction everything will run ok

  • MAJOR Start-up Issues:  Can my imac be saved?

    Hello all-
I sure hope someone can help me. I am really worried about the state of my imac. It is only ONE YEAR old and has always been maintained with the latest updates.
Quick background: A few weeks ago, while in screensaver mode, I returned to my mac to find a white screen with a folder and a question mark. I had never seen this before! It was frozen. I had to force shut down by holding the button on back. Since that time, the same thing has sporadically happened when the computer was in screensaver mode. In the last few days the problem has worsened with start up issues. Yesterday, when i started up the computer I kept getting just a blank white screen and what sounded like "a slow revving" of the disc several times and then nothing. After continually trying to restart (including in Safe Mode) eventually I got the apple logo and it started. When that happened, I immediately backed up everything for fear my hard drive is dying and then began to troubleshoot.
What I've tried: After looking through the threads I have tried a number of suggestions.
    - I repaired the Disk using First Aid (it says all was Okay)
    - I repaired permissions
    - I disconnected all cords & reset the SMC
    - I booted from the disc & ran the Extended Apple Hardware Test (it said all appears Okay)
After doing these things last night, the computer started up several times just fine so I shut it down for the night.... which brings me to this morning!
Start up was MUCH worse than yesterday. Same slow revving sound, white screen and nothing (at least 10 times) - even when trying Safe Mode. Then it worsened to a black screen and no sound at all - as if nothing was happening. I thought it was dead! I unplugged the power cord for 15 seconds and tried again - this changed it back to the white screen and a sound of more revving power. After about 3 tries, I got the apple logo and the spinning wheel for about 2 minutes - then it started!
This is where I am now. I am afraid to turn it off and not sure what else to try. I thought after all I did last night, the problem was fixed. Why does the hardware test and repair disc say all is fine? And why after doing those things last night did it start up numerous times? (and speedy too!) But then this morning I'm back where i started.... ? How can I troubleshoot this problem further?
I would really like to try everything before resorting to taking it in. Money is tight right now.
    GREATLY appreciate any advice!
    Thanks a lot,
    Karen

Warning!! ** (See bottom of post)
New Development: From Disk Utility, I chose to run "verify disk" again. (Somewhere I had read that sometimes, it needs to be run a few times before it will find a problem with the disk).
Sure enough! This time I got errors and it suggested I repair the disk!
Errors in verify mode were in RED as follows:
    Invalid index key
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed
I then restarted with the system disc, opened First Aid and chose Repair.
The following showed up in RED during the repair process:
    Invalid index key
    Incorrect number of thread records
    Invalid directory item count
volume bit map needs minor repair
    Invalid free block count
    volume header needs minor repair
And finally in GREEN (after 10 min):
    HD Repaired Successfully
** After doing this, and trying to restart, i get the white screen and the spinning wheel indefinitely. (even when i try Safe Mode) It appears I can no longer boot my HD. I wanted to share the errors above incase it brings anyone to any further insight, but I'm not so sure it helped my situation.
    Suggestions?

I'm not sure but since it's saying there's a library issue, you could try running:
    # ldconfig
Failing that you could try a:
    # pacman -Rns slim
    # pacman -Syu slim
I tried both "ldconfig" and "pacman -XXX", but the problem is still there.
Maybe I need use another way to recompile slim in my machine.
But I have no time to test it now, I will try it another day.
    Thx for replies.

Thanks for the reply,.  I went to the site provided and executed the directions but this did not solve the issue.
    Even more details:
If I send a message to the Jane Doe address from another account on this machine (all my family uses the same email services provider and each have accounts set up on this machine), when you open it, it shows Jane Doe then the <applejax.xx> address AND the picture associated with the Apple Jax account.
So the problem shows up when the message is sent to this account from this machine, AND when it is sent from this machine from this account.  No other accounts on the machine are effected.
I have sent and received email messages from the mail service provider's website, and everything is fine.

  • Start up Issues with Mountain Lion?

Having start up issues with Mountain Lion. Gray Screen and nothing happens.

If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all. Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid. Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. • Help! Mac Mini Start up issues

Help! I've had my Mac Mini since about November 2005. I've never had an issue with it, until now. I realize that there are other topics with this same issue, and I've looked through them, but I'm not sure if my problem is the same.
All of a sudden, I can't seem to get it to start up correctly. After hitting the power button, the screen will display a folder with an alternating finder icon and question mark. I checked the manual that came with the Mini itself, and followed the suggestion of holding down the option key at start up. When I do that, the screen only shows a back button and a forward, no hard disk icon to select, so I get stuck at that screen.
I was able to start up the computer by following the second suggestion in the manual of holding down the Command, Option, P and R keys until it makes the start up noise twice. After that, I replaced the keyboard/mouse from wireless to USB and the computer started up just fine for a day or two, and now it's back to requiring me to hold the Command, Option, P and R keys when starting up. I also tried to avert the problem by selecting the start up disk in the system preferences, and that didn't help either.
    I have two questions:
    1. Could this be due to a keyboard issue? The one I was using was a wireless Microsoft one (only thing I could find locally) and after reverting to the old keyboard off of my old iMac, the problem seemed to be solved, but has since returned (the keyboard off of the old iMac isn't reliable either).
    2. Is there anyway to fix this without losing everything on my hard drive?
(note: this is running with a G4 processor, not the intel based one).
    Thank you

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The alternating finder and question mark during attempted startup is an indicator that the system can't find the MacOS install on the hard drive, or that the hard drive is failing. The fact that when you started up with the Option key down you did not see the internal drive as a startup option also points to that issue.

No, this isn't a keyboard issue. Keyboards that are faulty or not entirely compatible will simply prevent you from changing the way the system boots, or from properly using the system once it's running. Swapping to the old keyboard is likely only associated with this problem because you also reset the parameter RAM at the same time.
    2. Is there anyway to fix this without losing everything on my hard drive?
The problem is that if the hard drive is failing, your data may well be already corrupt, but a good first place to start is to find your original install disk - the one that came with the system - and insert that. Then reboot the system, and hold the C key down to try and get it to boot to the install disk. If that doesn't work, try holding the Option key down again to get to that same boot loader screen you had before, (with the install disk still inserted). That should give you the option to select the install disk and get the system started up from that.
If the boot loader screen still shows no available drive even with the correct install disk in the drive, then chances are that the hard drive has failed, though it may be the optical drive/hard drive stack has come disconnected.
If you can boot to the install disk, open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and see if the internal drive is shown. If it is, select it and then click 'Repair Disk'. That will try and identify any errors and if any are found, will attempt to repair them. If you get errors that it can't fix (typically it will report 'error on exit') then the drive has probably become corrupted and you'll either need a good utility such as Alsoft's Disk Warrior to try and fix it, or perform an Erase and Install to reformat the drive and install MacOS from scratch. This latter option will wipe your data of course, so should not be done unless you don't mind loosing your data, or have tried everything else and have no alternative!

  • [SOLVED] Systemd - console-kit-log-system-start.service FAILED

    Hi!
i'm using systemd, and i removed initscripts and sysvinit.
I've now noticed this error, it seems that service failed to load.
By the way, i can systemctl restart it, and then it will be active and running. So, where is the problem?  I found this, that seems to be my same problem, but it is 2 years old! https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=632714 .
    Any idea?
    thanks!

Looking into the issue, i can't find a solution...
    so, here there are :
    systemctl status console-kit-log-system-start.service
console-kit-log-system-start.service - Console System Startup Logging
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/console-kit-log-system-start.service; static)
    Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Tue, 03 Jul 2012 09:34:45 +0200; 1 day and 3h ago
    Process: 175 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/ck-log-system-start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
    CGroup: name=systemd:/system/console-kit-log-system-start.service
    and
    journalctl -a | grep console-kit-log
    Jul 03 09:34:45 arch systemd[1]: console-kit-log-system-start.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=1
Jul 03 09:34:45 arch systemd[1]: Unit console-kit-log-system-start.service entered failed state.
    Any idea?
EDIT:as i said, i can restart it, without any sort of problem, so i guess the issue is related to the deps of this service (After=...). I left it untouched, never modified this service...

  • Narrow down start up issue need experienced/knowledgeble Mac Expert

    Hi,
I have spoken with two level 2 mac specialists and both have concluded that I am having a 3rd party software issue with my Mac Pro 3.0. The issue is it takes 5 minutes for my Mac to boot up from start up/restart. Here is my question; in OS9 to narrow down an issue I could simply drag an Extension on to the desktop and restart to see if the issue continued. Since this issue that I am having is a 3rd party conflict in start up is there a way to remove or 'disable' 3rd party software so basically the system thinks it's not there so I can narrow this issue down to who is the problem child? I really don't want to trash all my 3rd party software to figure this out.
I have recently done a Archive and Install from the install CD 10.5 and the start up was fine. Then when I update to 10.5.4 or 10.5.5 the long start up issue is back. So I am concluding that something is not 10.5+ compatible.
Look forward to someone knowing the answer to my question.
    Thanks.

Hi Francine thanks for your input. If I'm not mistaken the Shift key is 'Safe Mode' and that is great but I need to either remove one 3rd party software package at a time or be able to add one at a time until I find the ugly step child. And I don't think Safe Mode will allow that.
I did try the Verbose mode which was pretty cool to see however once it kicks on the video card and goes to the blue screen that is the transition screen after the Apple and before the desktop I lose the verbose read out and at the blue screen is where it hangs for 4 minutes. So unfortunately that didn't work. I really need to know if I can take out a key 'Component' from a specific folder that will not allow a 3rd party to register and then if it's not it simply place it back in the folder and that software is back in business. I am amazed that with today's technology first, that the computer doesn't tell you what the issue is and second that no one has come up with a way to trouble shoot when things do go as planned. Sigh. Any other recommendations? Anyone....Bueller....Bueller?

System starts anjd goes to HP start up,blue screen options at botton of screen are inop. Have recovery disks and system does not reconise them. have recovery f-11 down when powering up before blue stiil no change

I had the same issue... mine was memory related... try removing all but 2 of the memory sticks, rebutting and pressing F9 and running the test. If it passes, restart and try to start up. Out of the 4 memory sticks that I have, one of them was bad and was causing the issue you wrote. Hope this helps

  • Various system start problems

I get the following errors on system start up: (kernel26-2.6.27.6-1, udev 130-1)
    1.
    udevd[356]: specified group 'optical' unknown
    udevd[356]: specified group 'disk' unknown

    (... for every partition)
    3.
Boot process gets stuck when 'Starting Network', I do not think it is a network issue because it is simply stuck and it does not break with a timeout.
I had a filesystem issue some days ago, but I *think* I fixed it properly (e2fsck), so there is a slight possibility I damaged it.
What are the key problems behind all this?

um, can you post the your /etc/crypttab?  line 223 of /etc/rc.sysinit is
    eval do_crypt "$line"
and $line is a line of /etc/crypttab.  but everything after do_crypt in your code snippet looks nothing like a crypttab line.

have you defined network interfaces, routes, etc. in /etc/rc.conf?  hell, please post yr rc.conf!

  • OSX Mavericks Wifi connection problem when system starts

My macbook pro unable to connect to the preset wifi when system started, same whether starts and ready from sleep-mode, or previous shutdown mode.
This starts to happen just several weeks recently.

  • Q: /etc/dfs/dfstab entries ignored during system start

I am wondering why entries in the dfstab file are ignored during system start.
    The situation is as following:
I have an old x86 system acting as my home server. This machine runs Solaris 10 6/06.
I have the following entry in /etc/dfs/dfstab on this machine:
    share -F nfs -o sec=sys,[email protected],[email protected] -d "home dirs" /export/home
in order to automount my home dir from my Blade 2000.
But this doesn't work as expected. After rebooting the server there are no shares available. I have manually log in the server and issue a "shareall".
BTW the nfs server is enabled by default:
    svcs -a | grep nfs/server
    online 15:16:53 svc:/network/nfs/server:default
    What is wrong?
    Regards,
    Andreas

I think you need to do more than just change the file. I think the share command will do it all for you.
After editing the file, I think you need to run
    exportfs -a    or
svcadm restart svc:/network/nfs/serverto make it see it.
or you can use the share command.
    Like
share  /optwhich will make the entry for you and enable it.

  • Pearson Vue 10g testing did not start - technical issues.

    Hi,
I registered for the 10g DBA II exam on 28th May from one of the Toronto area based Exam center.
To my surprise, the exam did not start. The Pearson system started asking some Authentication code which the center person doesn't know. I was really upset of not being able to appear for the exam I prepared (you know the mindset of a test taker).
I started following up with the Pearson Vue Customer care, they have created an incident and so far there has been no progress on this.
The system doesn't let me reschedule or book the same exam. I want to try taking the exam from different center.
The help from PearsonVue customer care is very average, I really oracle to intervene.
Need help from the certification moderator.
    Thanks,
    Jay.

    Thanks,
Jay.Its good if you have an incident number, in general you can reply and ask if they can escalate this.
(This the test center or you raise the incident, and do you have the incident number ? (if not get it) ).
There has been a weekend, and in some places it was a holiday yesterday. (Probably not canada you will tell me).
A Pearson VUE representative should be able to reschedule this for you. If you ask nicely enough they might (or might not) help with costs if you give a sob story about time wasted, money wasted, stress ....
The key work is to request to ESCALATE the incident xxxxx.
( It may be that is a test center incident and they are trying to sort the test centers issues .... you need an incident to get a re-test which may be different (but related) ).
( I once had a failed test, and they were able to reschedule it for me somehwere else in 2hrs .... (where is also failed !!!! ).
Pearson VUE will also need to be sure the problem is cleared before they reschedule you.
( In general they sort of come somewhat good in the end ... usually ).
