System-Wide Formatting not applied to Dashboard Column Prompt in 11g

In OBIEE 11g, I have a dashboard column prompt with a date column. I use this column in the analysis and have made the column properties (formatting) a system-wide default for that column.
When I use the column in a dashboard column prompt, it does not show this formatting.
Any ideas why it might not work?

So from what I understand about your question, the system wide default data format you have set for the date column is not following the same format when you use it as a dashboard column prompt. The system wide format only applies for analysis purposes and not for prompts in 11g.

• Formatting Critical Tasks (Text in Table) not applying across all columns

All,
I am working on creating a schedule from multiple smaller schedules. A few of these schedules had manual text formatting which I overwrote manually (selecting cells and changing text color). Now when attempting to apply text styles to the critical
path the text styles will not apply to all Critical tasks or all columns visible. I'm guessing I caused problems by manually changing the text color but I don't know how to fix it. Please help!

All of the manual text formatting and re-formatting in cells has changed the default formatting in the Gantt Chart View.
Rather than fiddling with it, the best way is to recover the original formatting of the Gantt Chart View, and then if you want to modify it make a copy of that view, name the copy something like "AA Gantt Chart 01", and then format the text and bar
styles (not individual bits and pieces of cells and bars) of your new view. Include the "AA" or an underscore or something similar as part of the name so that your new views always go to the top of the list and you can always distinguish them
from the original ones that came out of the box.
Use the organiser to recover the original Gantt Chart View by pulling the Gantt Chart View from the global template. Now, MSP will not allow you to over-write the Gantt Chart View in your file while that view is the active view, so you will have to switch
to another view while you do it. Switch to the Tracking Gantt View, then File, Organiser. You see all of the clean stuff on the left hand side and all of the stuff in your file on the right.
In the future, leave the original views as they are. Also, leave the original tables, filters, groups, reports etc alone and if you need modified/customised versions of them make copies and change the copies. This is just good housekeeping. Also, do not
copy modified/customised views from your file into the global template ((or you will poison the well).
Hope this helps. Please mark as answer.

• Officejet 7000 Wide Format not printing Black

Hi THere. I have a HP Officejet 7000 wide Printing format and it is not printing Black. The ink levels are showing full. I have cleaned, 2nd tier clean & Aligned the printer with no affect.
I had removed the old cartridge when this happened and it was actually half full, so I also bought a new cartridge and it still prints the same.
Any ideas out there?
Thanks
Finto

If the printer is out of warranty one thing that might be worth a shot is soaking the printhead...
1) Get a pan and put 1/2" of very hot (not boiling) water in the bottom.
2) Next remove all the ink cartridges, then remove the printhead assembly.
3) Gently put the printhead nozzles down in the water and let it soak for five minutes.
4) Remove the printhead and gently dry the electrical contacts.
5) Put the printhead back in the printer and then reinstall the ink cartridges.

Hi,
I did some changes to some column and set as system wide default for that column in dev.
1. for example there are 20 existing reports using this column. does this format applicable to existing reports?
2. How can I migrate this system wide default change to set of column from dev to test?

• Print preferences do not apply to CRM users

When Print Preferences are set for a document type (for example, print 2 copies on Add), they are applied to Professional users, but not to CRM users. While it seems reasonable to restrict CRM users from changing the print preferences, these are meant to be company-wide defaults and should apply to all users. I have verified with SAP support that CRM users are not affected by settings in the print preferences. We are currently using a work-around of setting the preferences in User Defaults for these users, but it is time-consuming and could be neglected when adding a new user. There is no reason why system defaults should not apply to CRM users.

Hi,
I agree with Meinolf. Besides, we can try to configure this setting under Computer Configuration and apply the GPO to the terminal server, in which way all users logging onto
the server will apply the setting.

• System Wide Data Formats Not copied from Development to test

I am using OBIEE 10g. When I copy my dashboards and reports via the Catalog Manager from the development environment to the test environment the system wide data formats are not being copied over. That is, all the ones that I saved under "Column Properties->Column Format->Save As System Wide Default" are not being copied over. I am using archive and unarchive in the Catalog Manager to move from development to test environment. So my question is where are these system-wide defaults stored and what do I need to do get them copied over?
Thanks in advance!

Hi
the system wide column formats are stored in catalog under system/metadata folder.
copy this folder from dev env to test env. via catalog manager, restart ps.

• System-Wide Column Formats by Subject Area

Can we define System-Wide Column Formats by subject area in OBIEE 11g? If so, how?

Hi, this post is for 10g, bu I don't think much have changed (except the file location: \MWHOME\instances\instance1\bifoundation\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obips1\catalog\YOUR_CATALOG\root\system\metadata)

I didn't test it myself.

• Save System-Wide Column Formats privilege unavailable

OBIEE 11.1.1.5
I go into the Manage Privileges screen and under the Formatting->Save System-Wide Column Formats option, there are no roles listed
and there doesn't appear to be any way to add a role. So now I have no way to save a system-wide default even logged in as an
administrator. Every other privilege is fine except this one. Any ideas how this might have occurred and how to add a role to the
privilege?

MuRam,
You are posting a link to OBIEE 10g documentation, when the OP has clearly stated he is dealing with OBIEE 11.1.5.
I am facing the same issue - Manage Privileges > Formatting > Save System-Wide Column Formats - there is no link for me to click on that allows me to manage that privilege.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks.

• Unable to save column as system wide default

Hi All,
I am in 11.1.1.1.6, I am trying to the save a column as system wide default in 11g but my changes are not getting saved or reflected?
This is what I did using the "weblogic" user name and password
1. Pulled a column EmpName in the criteria
2. Added an action link to that column, which points to another dashboard page Page1
3. Saved as system wide default by clicking on save as system wide default for "EmpName"
4. Restarted the presentation services.
Now when again logged in, and selected that column in my request, what I expect to see (when I run the request and go to results) is that navigtion applied on this column which will take me to the dashboard page Page1.
But this is not happening, What is that I am missing? Can anybody please let me know
Thanks,
Ronny

Thanks Deva for your reply, I don't have access to Oracle support, I'll have to go back to my client saying that this is a bug,
Can you please confirm that this bug which you mentioned is related to not being able to save the column properties as system wide default in obiee 11.1.1.1.6.0 version?
Also what i just found online is that this bug was fixed in 11.1.1.1.6.2? Can you please confirm this?
Thanks,
Ronny

• How remove saved system-wide default for a column

yesterday I saved a system-wide default for a column with a custom column heading and data format.
now, when I drag this column in a new analysis, obiee shows no column heading.
I've tried to save my custom default again or reset to column-default but with no results: the column heading is still empty.
How can I fix this problem?
thanks
Luc

Hello,
What OBI version are you using?
Enter some other custom name for the column (e.g. same as default one) and save it as system-wide. I guess, you have already tried, but...
1. Stop Presentation Services.
2. Go under web catalog in the file system and locate folder \root\system\metadata. This folder contains files storing subject area attributes, including system-wide settings. I the folder find 2 files named similar as the subject area which column you have modified (name will be in lowercase, spaces replaced with +). For example, for "SA System" subject area these files are named as "sa+system" and "sa+system.atr".
3. Backup these 2 files you have found (better whole presentation catalog).
4. Try one of the options:
Option 1: If you have another version of these files (in the backup or other environments) - try to replace them. There is a risk you will loose some other column settings (or inherit new).
Option 2: Modify the file without extension (it contains XML code inside): locate the string similar to your column name. Remove whole section ONLY for the column you have found between tags <sawsavedformat:columnSavedFormat and </sawsavedformat:columnSavedFormat>.
Below is sample code for column originally named as "Pager" under "User" folder in "SA System" subject area.
<sawsavedformat:metadata xmlns:sawsavedformat="com.siebel.analytics.web/savedformat/v1.1">
<sawsavedformat:columnSavedFormats>
<sawsavedformat:columnSavedFormat xmlns:saw="com.siebel.analytics.web/report/v1.1" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:type="sawsavedformat:regularColumnSavedFormat" columnName=""SA System"."User"."Pager"">
<saw:displayFormat><saw:formatSpec suppress="suppress" wrapText="true" hAlign="left" vAlign="top"/></saw:displayFormat>
<saw:tableHeading><saw:caption fmt="text"><saw:text>User</saw:text></saw:caption><saw:displayFormat/></saw:tableHeading>
<saw:columnHeading><saw:displayFormat><saw:formatSpec/></saw:displayFormat><saw:caption fmt="text"><saw:text>Pager New</saw:text></saw:caption></saw:columnHeading>
</sawsavedformat:columnSavedFormat>
</sawsavedformat:columnSavedFormats>
</sawsavedformat:metadata>
Option 3: Just remove these 2 files. Naturally, you will loose all the settings, not only one you like to get rid off.
5. Restart presentation services.
Hope, this helps.

• LOV not being applied to a column

Problem: The first query runs quite fast as it is soft parsed, but the LOV values are not applied to the resulting values in the column CHECK_MARK. The second query is hard parsed (and slow due to that) but has its LOV value properly realized. The LOV being applied changes 0/NULL to white space and the 1 is a graphical checkmark.
For this situation an LOV is being applied to a column named "CHECK_MARK'. The column will have a value of 0/NULL or 1 if the row (employee) is in the source table (SCHEMA.EMPLOYEE_V) has its primary id (EMP_ID) in a collection named 'SELECTED_EMP_IDS'. The only values inside the collection is C001 storing the EMP_ID value of every employee selected.
--Works fast, but the report renders with 0/NULL and 1's instead of nothing for 0/NULL and an IMG tag for a value of 1.
SELECT
EMP_ID,
NVL((SELECT 1 FROM HTMLDB_COLLECTIONS WHERE C001 = EMPLOYEE_ID AND COLLECTION_NAME = ''SELECTED_EMP_IDS''),0) AS CHECK_MARK FROM SCHEMA.EMPLOYEE_V;
--Slow, but the img tag is properly output from the LOV.
SELECT
EMP_ID
0 CHECK_MARK FROM SHEMA.EMPLOYEE_V
LEFT JOIN (SELECT 1 CHECK_MARK FROM DUAL) ON (EMP_ID) IN (SELECT C001 FROM HTMLDB_COLLECTIONS WHERE COLLECTION_NAME = 'SELECTED_EMP_IDS';
Any reason for this or is there another way to format the query so it is both soft parsed and have the LOV properly output?

There is a collection, with C001 having some number of EMP_ID’s in it.
COLLECTION_NAME = ‘SELECTED_EMP_IDS’
C001
27
32
52
70Both of the following queries will return the same data:
(Query 1)
SELECT
EMP_ID,
NVL((SELECT 1 FROM HTMLDB_COLLECTIONS WHERE C001 = EMPLOYEE_ID AND COLLECTION_NAME = ''SELECTED_EMP_IDS''),0) AS CHECK_MARK FROM SCHEMA.EMPLOYEE_V;
(Query 2)
SELECT
EMP_ID
0 CHECK_MARK FROM SHEMA.EMPLOYEE_V
LEFT JOIN (SELECT 1 CHECK_MARK FROM DUAL) ON (EMP_ID) IN (SELECT C001 FROM HTMLDB_COLLECTIONS WHERE COLLECTION_NAME = 'SELECTED_EMP_IDS';
EMP_ID         |       CHECK_MARK         |     ...
10               0
15               0
27               1
32               1
52               1
70               1
110 0Where all the 1's in the checkmark column are also contained within the collection above. This query is used to render a report. The CHECK_MARK column in the report has a static LOV applied to it.
CHECK_MARK_LOV:
Return Value     Display Value
0
1 <img src="/i/check_small_black.gif">When the page is run using Query 1, the CHECK_MARK column will display 0's and 1's. When running the page with the report having the source of Query 2, the LOV will be properly applied and the 0's will become white space and 1's will become <img src="/i/check_small_black.gif">..
I am just trying to figure out why Query 1 makes it so the CHECK_MARK column is rendered with the return value of the LOV while Query 2 renders the CHECK_MARK column with the proper LOV display value.

• System wide keyboard commands not responding

My mac stops responding to system wide keyboard commands such as the Dashboard, Expose and Spotlight shortcuts. It also does not respond to Command-Tab to switch between applications. Hitting the keys for any of these leads to no response whatsoever.
I have run into this problem several times over the last few months, and the only solution I have found is to restart the computer. Initially, it appeared to be related to the ScreenSaver process crashing. I could look in the System Monitor and see that this process had gone red, when I forced the process to quit, the keyboard commands were restored. More recently, though, this has not been the case, and I have had to restart.
Any guesses what could cause this or suggestions on how to diagnose it? Thanks for any help.

I'll answer in reverse.
When I've experienced the problem, I have tried other (older style) keyboards, and that did not resolve the problem.
I've never tried creating another user account.
I'll try disabling the screen saver, but part of the problem is that this issue is sufficiently intermittent that it take a while to determine if this has a benefit. I was hoping to find some more systematic way to diagnose what has been happening. Any suggestions along these lines?
Thanks for your help and interest.

• HP Officejet 7110 Wide Format Printer not printing true black on HP Semi Glossy A4 paper

I recently bought an HP Officejet 7110 Wide Format Printer and I have tried several times to print black on HP Semi Glossy A4 paper C6818A and each time it comes out as an almost dark brown off-black. I have tested it with another HP printer and it printed a perfect dark black from the same file using standard printer settings for plain paper. I have just replaced the printer cartridges supplied with the printer with some new ones and this has not fixed the problem either. If you could suggest any possible solutions I would appreciate it. Thanks

• File Type Associations Do Not Stick System-Wide CS4

When I set File Type Associations for PSD, Tiff, DNG and Jpeg fles in Bridge CS4 so that my files will open in PS CS3 (and insure that the same file associations apply in Bridge CS3), this works as it should from within CS4 and CS3, but it is impossible to introduce a system-wide change in Mac OS 10.5.5 via File-Info. It always reverts to CS4 for these file types, if I try to 'modify all'. The same thing happened when I upgraded from CS2 to CS3.

If File Type Associations are set properly in the Bridge preferences, the default setting can be made to open files in PS CS3, with CS4 installed. This works from within CS3 and CS4. However, it sometimes happens that one is in the Finder, and the default remains PS CS4, however much one tries (via File-Get Info) to modify the default system-wide settings so that these files open in CS3. In any event, a bit invasive. Of course, if I could get comfortable with the Adjustment Layer Panels, all this would be unnecessary, but for the moment, there appear to be too many clicks, and it is going to take some time, so I don't want to burn bridges. Perhaps there is also some ambiguity in my mind as to what the pointing finger in the new Curves dialogue box, much like a tolling bell, is trying to tell me.
But thanks, once again Anne, for your good-natured help.

Hello Jacob,
Btw. is it possible to set the format for all numbers
in the application at once? I want to have a thousand
separator in most cases.I am using substitution strings for things like that. You can define some "global" substitution strings on page application definition.
So you just have to put in the format (999G999G999G999G990D00 ) in there once and give it a name. Let's say NUMBER_THOUSAND.
Afterwards you can reference it wherever you need the format e.g. this way:
to_char(10000,'&NUMBER_THOUSAND.').
This way you just have one place where to change the format model.
