T420 4178 XP32 downgrade HHD slowness issue

Hi everyone , i just recieved my brand new T420 and i need a few advices please.
I have downgraded my 420 4178 to win xp 32 and my 500  gb 7200 rpm sata drive is slow. [hitachi hts72755]
When i copy a 300mo folder from my desktop to my desktop it takes 2 min
When i copy the same folder from usb Flash drive1 to my desktop it takes 2 min too.
But when i copy the same folder from flash usb drive1 to usb flash drive 2 its fast and fine. Same results with usb hdd.
Its the same for software/archive reading from internal hard driv,e its soo slow, but extratring a rar archive on a flash drive works fine.
I ve tryed all the drivers provided by lenovo support, installed the net framwork 3.5 sp1 made a few installation with XP1 PRO32 and XP3 PRO 32 , with sata mode and compatybility mode [all clean install with AHCI and ISATOR driver included in the win cds] even tryed a windows xp family french spd2 lol. Everything is fine in the device manager. but it keep slowing.
IThen  tryed the same tests just after a fresh install with no drivers at all and its still slow, in both sata and compat mode.
The lenovo pass the hd tune bench with success  and the lenovo hard drive checking tool too. I will upload screen shoots soon since my t420 is actually formatting...
The only weird thing is, under hdd tune the blue curve keep hitting the ground to 1.5 mo for the minimum, and it make it 6 or 7 time for a bench.
I did not test this on windows 7 since i formatted it directly at the exit of the box , what a mistake.
Checked if windows did not disable the DMA to PIO or something , ive deleted a few registry entry like MasterIdDataCheckSum” and “SlaveIdDataCheckSum” and trhe issue keeps occuring.

I dont know where to search for now,  trying to find a HDD firmware for [hitachi hts72755] with no success.
Even a test with linux, the hard drive is formatted but the software installer crash after it. LOL.
I dont own any Seven installer anymore and the recovery partition have been deleted.
I know these little t420 usually works fine with xp 32. but why not this one?  ;]
Thank you all for your advices, thanks.

I haven't been able to find specs on that drive.  If it's an Advanced Format drive (with 4k-byte sectors) it will perform very poorly - even though it can do 512-byte sector emulation, or maybe more accurately because of the emulation - unless the partitions are properly aligned.
You might try running the Hitachi alignment tool:  http://www.hitachigst.com/internal-drives/advanced-format-drives

  • T420 - Intel Wireless and Windows XP issue?

Has anyone else seen any issues with using the Intel Wireless Advanced-N 6205 card on Windows XP? I have a 4178-6UU and it will work for a while, then just stop receiving packets, but will not disconnect even though it doesn't work and I am no longer able to ping it.
I have the latest driver available from Intel and Lenovo (14.0.1.2), and also the latest BIOS (1.22). Unfortunately, I have to have XP/SP3 on these T420's. Any suggestions or is anyone else seeing any issues?

Have you solved this issue? If so how? I think I may have the same issue. I don't understand all terminology in the post such as "ping", so I can't be certain if it is exactly the same issue. Also I use Windows 7 Pro. However in certain locations but not all, my wireless capabilities are horrible. The same locations that worked just fine with my Dell E6400, that I recently switched from are not working on my lenovo T420 4178-6UU. The internet access is constantly loss and I have to reconnect over and over again throughout the work day. HELP!!!! (SN: This keyboard is the best I have ever worked on, I don't think I will ever buy a different kind of PC, that is if I can resolve this wireless issue).

  • Whenever an slowness issue came in sql server how should I start?

whenever a slowness issue or performance issue came in sql server how should I start?
    Please guide.
    Thanks

    Hi Ajay,
All answer given above would be useful to you in some or the other scenario. if you are facing performance issue the approach you take determines how easily and quickly you can find solution.
First thing is know your system how it works for that you need to first baseline a system. A system with 70 % CPU utilization would not always be issue but for some environment it can be. If you know your system very well moment performance issue  comes
you would know where is the problem. Wait stats alone is never helpful you must be able to correlate wait stats to what is going on your system. If you know which query is causing issue its easy to see execution plan and tune it. If issue is server wide it
can be due to missing index outdated stats slow disk subsystem etc. So first step is finding the cause. As Uri suggested wait stats are always helpful I use wait stats and refer to below whitepaper by Microsoft for SQL Server troubleshooting
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd672789%28v=sql.100%29.aspx
Remember important thing is knowing your system and that can come from base lining.
Please mark this reply as answer if it solved your issue or vote as helpful if it helped so that other forum members can benefit from it.

  • Cisco Web Security Appliance Slowness issue

    Hello,
I have a slowness issue on an Existing WSA-S170-K9 appliance , when issuing the command Rate/proxystat it displays unresponsive sometimes screenshot attached.
software version is 8.5, i was suspecting that this issue is related to access policies applied on end users ; so i created a test policy to bypass all checks and disable all malware/antivirus checks on users flows however, the same issue is still there.
    Appreciate any assisstance,
    Thanks,
    Muayad Jallad,

Does this happen every time you run the rate command and at the beginning of the command's output rows?
You may want to look at your proxylogs to see what activity is occurring while the proxy is unresponsive.

  • G510 - System Slowness Issue

I'm having G510 laptop. I'm facing system slowness issue. Frequently facing this issue for all apps, taking too much time to load/open as compared to the normal speed. Restarting the machine also taking 10 mins to bootup again. And getting blank screen too. Please someone help me on this.

Hmmm.... Download and run Process Explorer from Microsoft Technet. Look at running processes and what they are attached to. Google anything that you are not familiar with, look for associated programs and remove any that are not Lenovo Tools, Microsoft Authored or programs that you have personally installed.
Look at running programs (system tray) and see what is running in background. Google Update, Java Update and similar can tie up resources and slow down the computer.
Lastly - Download and run Malwarebytes, do a deep scan for root kits and other nastiness that may be lurking around in your file system.
    Good luck.

  • Firefox slowness issues have been getting worse, when is it going to be re-coded? none of the "FIXES" ever work and my other browsers work just fine.

My frustrations with firefox continue to mount. All the supposed fixes are a waste of time. There is obviously a major code problem that needs to be addressed. Your solutions that you post just seem to be the same and never work. Users are not programmers and should not be expected to do your troubleshooting. I have been running a comparison lately using four different browsers to play a popular facebook game (Trainstation). (All browsers at the latest version)
    1. Firefox
    2. Internet Explorer
    3. Google Chrome
    4. Opera
to do the exact same thing in the game firefox was taking 20 to 30 seconds to complete (about half of the time completely freezing for several minutes.) where the next slowest browser (I.E.) was taking 2-3 seconds whilst opera was the fastest at almost instant, chrome almost as fast.
Firefox is also slow to load any page in general regardless of flash content.
Frequently I get "not responding" at the top of the window.
My system is a new Dell Inspiron with Intel Core I5 processor @ 2ghz and 6GB Ram, about 300GB free hard disk space. Windows 8.1
The game played requires the latest flash version which does not work on LINUX. However the linux firefox version is much faster. Perhaps there is a direct link for conflict with windows 8.1
Firefox also seems to have a memory leak, resources get dramatically worse if the browser is open for many hours. (this is not a problem with other browsers in general, except I.E. which exhibits this problem as well to a lesser degree. The freezing issue has also been a problem with Thunderbird lately as well, I do not have another e-mail client installed to compare to.

I have tried that already, I have seen that response in more than one forum in the past and it does not do anything. I also for the test of it, upgraded to the v29 beta version. Still is slow (not just the game i was playing which is on face book but also on the game developers site directly as well (http://portal.pixelfederation.com/trainstation/), using either does not matter as far as performance of the game. All sites and browsing is slower, as is startup loading my home page which is just google.com. I remember when firefox used to be blazing fast compared to others. I have also tried recreating a new profile, didn't help. tried a complete removal (including registry entries and all files, then a new fresh install, didn't help. someone on another forum suggested several tweaks in the about:config area, didn't help. something has changed dramatically in the last four or five versions. • Safari slowness issues...affect more than Safari...***?

Safari started giving me trouble loading pages on the 18th of November. I DO NOT use Yahoo mail or any other remote mail (except I do check mail at .mac before downloading). Absolutely no recent software updates.
Had my provider PING my computer, check signal, connected directly to cable modem vs. router....same problems.
Mostly it's that Safari is slow, gets "stuck" loading pages or intermittently fails to load pages ("can't find server"). I also notice that Mail is delayed and even System Preferences' dock icon bounces a lot and delays before opening. IE is better for speed but still is delayed.
From the posts it seems people are having various internet issues related to Safari so it seems to be something related to apps vs. individual computers.
Any idea on a fix? Could it be spyware or a virus? Should I go to another browser, and if so, how do I download it when Safari is being so naughty?
Maybe people can post what all apps and sites they are having a problem with so Apple can get a handle on this. I'm glad to see the other posts here because without knowing that others are having this problem, I'd feel like I was going crazy.

I should also add that apps like Word and Quicken load effortlessly like they should. The slowness seems to be associated with anything internet related (though I don't know why System Prefs is slowed on startup). I am using Safari 1.3.

  • For those with pixel rendering issues and slowness issues

For anyone who doesnt know these little details when designing in Catalyst, I thought I would share and hopefully ease some peoples frustrations. Lets kick off with pixel issues.
You have either vector, raster, or components that are either: not aligning with everything else around it, even though it has the same X/Y value, the rounded corners of a rectangle vector object are distorted, or anything else you have experienced with pixel distortion or pixels just not lining up properly. Here is the issue. When you drag and drop an object from the library, wireframe components, or draw a new shape, it can have a decimal level pixel value. It does not say this in the property inspector though. So you may have a rectangle at a listed X/Y of 10,15 but it could actually be 10.3, 14.9. To fix this you have to type in a new value of at least 1 number higher or lower. Deleting the value and typing the same number in doesnt do anything. Neither does moving it with the arrow keys in hopes of it moving it to a whole pixel value. The arrow keys move by 1 pixel (or 10 if holding down shift). This should take care of most of your problems.
Now you may still have problems with the corners of rounded rectangles if you converted it to an Optimized Vector Graphics. For you Flash Pro users, from what I can tell, using "Optimize Vector Graphics" is basically the same as (in Flash) converting a vector shape into a MovieClip and in the property inspector, checking the "Cache as Bitmap" box. That option has Flash create a bitmap version of the vector shape so that it will not be re-drawn every frame, which is what the Flash player does with vector objects. So because it is converting your vector into raster, it kinda has issues with rounded corners when you have a stroke on the shape and pretty much only if you have a stroke. If you take the stroke off, and use Optimize Vector Graphics, you shouldn't have that problem anymore. But what if you needed that stroke? Simple, duplicate that shape, change its fill color to what you want the "stroke" color to be, increase its size by 2 pixels on the width and height for every number of thickness that you wanted with the stroke, and then set the X/Y of the "stroke" rectangle to a pixels less for whatever the "thickness" of your stroke is.
    Example:
    Rectangle - width:20, height:10, desired stroke thickness:2, X:10, Y:10
    Rectangle Stroke - width: 24, height:14, X:8, Y:8
    Rectangle - width:100, height:30, desired stroke thickness:1, X:15, Y:27
    Rectangle Stroke - width:102, height:32, X:14, Y:26
It wont look perfect but its pretty close if you do this and then draw a rectangle beside it with a real stroke. And if you still want to use Optimize Vector Graphics on it, just group the two rectangles together and then use Optimize on the group and no more distorted corners. This also applies to vector shapes in Flash Pro.
Lastly to talk about the slowness of Catalyst. You may or may not have read the posts from Adobe employees, but I can tell you that having fewer states helps with the responsiveness of it, but so does using the Optimize Vector Graphics as much as possible. I am working in a large scale project, and just from me converting all my vector background shapes, which was around 13 used across 6 main states, it helped significantly with Catalyst being more responsive for me.
Hoped this long post helped some people with any similar issues you might be having.

I noticed with my Charge phone that when I get a call the FIRST ring is highly muted (quite soft) and then all rings after that are full volume.
I wish that even the first ring was load (full volume) but I accept the fact that that is how GB 2.3.6 works.  Anyone know how to change this?

  • Newbie with "disk too slow" issues

    Hi folks,
TOTAL newbie (Mac newbie, audio newbie) here, up front disclaimer. I've just been trying to play the "Numbers Game" demo project in Logic Pro on my new MacBook Pro and I'm getting the "disk too slow" message (error 10010)...This is a 2.66 GHz MacBook with 4GB of RAM. I'm just using the internal drive (500 GB, 5400 RPM)...The system is new, so it's clean.
All my software is up to date...Logic Pro is 9.1.2. The same thing happens in 32 or 64 bit mode, at the same spot in the playback (about 41 seconds in).
I've read various threads here regarding this message and have tried some of the suggestions (like disabling the Airport). I've tried both extremes (32 and 1024) on the disk buffer size, etc...
Like I said, total newbie so I'm probably doing something stupid. Has anyone else had this particular issue? I notice this demo project is rather complex...so maybe it really is overloading the system?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Will

Nope, not trying to play from the optical... I'm not quite that much of a newbie.
    Never hurts to ask
BTW, if you hit that spot and get the overload message, and then start playback over again from the beginning, will it play back the project without incident? If so, you've run across one of the longtime and well documented issues of Logic. Once you play through that first time around, you're good to go.
If it's doing it every time you playback the project even if you haven't closed Logic, then it is indeed bogging down your system. Fuzzy is right, you'll have better performance if you put the project and its contents on an external drive. Also, if you have a Unibody MBP, the HD's are super easy to swap out. Mine came with a 500GB 5400RPM drive, and I put in a 500GB 7200 speed drive, and it makes a HUGE difference. The original drive is in an external enclosure that I use for a back-up. It's a very nice set-up.
    Good Luck!

  • MacBookPro warm problem and slow issue.

    Hi,
My MacBookPro get hot like an OVEN, It's slow like a turtle, and it frozen like an iceberg. Why? Someone any idea? Do I have a defectuous one?
The problem may OS.X Lion? I have a Macbook air and an Imac with Leopard and I'm very happy with those.
Like I said last night (but the post has been removed) I'm desapointed with my MacBookPro. I should not say "I'm desapointed" that again... because I will got no help to fix my issue and I will see my post removed again.
Anyway, Some of you guy's got the same problem I have? Someone has resolved this problem? Don't tell me to put my Mac in the fridge please. If I got my Macbookpro on my knees and I use it to work my stuff, after 2 minutes it turn in a oven and I can't stand it, and of course he got slow and froze.
    Thank you for any help.
    Regards.
    David

Thank you very much for your help Stedman1.
I just follow your advice and the most high level on the CPU I have right now it's about 3.7 and it's VLC media player. I have rght now the MacBookPro on my knees, and writing this reply, I can feel the warming get more intense.
    I believe I got a defectuous item.
    Thx again Stedman1

  • For the current slowness issues, I would suggest calling Apple

Call their main 800 number or whatever number is for your country (see below), and ask for iCloud support.  The rep who answers will ask for a hardware serial # (I know, it's a subscription service and I've already tried to fight that battle - but if you have an iPod/iPhone I would just give them that serial #).   But they should eventually get you to an iCloud/iTunes Match L1 rep.  And this way at least it's documented and you have a case number.  Expect a wait time, for obvious reasons.
I would do this because, imo, you want it documented that you are having this issue.   I did this already today and I actually do it every time there's an issue because that way in 6 months time if this is a continuing issue, all my issues are clearly documented in their system.   Might not equate to anything, but at least if people call and put in case numbers, the bean counters at Apple will see these metrics and will know that people are actually angry about these outages.
    My two cents.   http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
EDIT: Also, please use Apple's feedback page.  http://www.apple.com/feedback/.  Every rep I've talked to has suggested this, as I get the impression that Apple actually looks at these.   I plan to do this myself today, in regards to the current issues I'm seeing.

I was giving the service the benefit of the doubt.     But it's your call, of course.   I've been hung for about 14 hours with my latest attempt - it's definitely more than slow for me, but the point being that there are issues right now.
Apple doesn't watch this board, tmk - so although complaining here is certainly understandable, I wouldn't expect it to make any difference to resolve the issue faster.    I took the time as I felt it was worth doing, as i want them to know about issues.   This is also what the reps suggest, as it has the best chance of getting the attention that I feel it deserves.

  • Completely stumped on a slowness issue. Please help me not have to reload 80PCs.

I am not getting the gist of the issue here. How does the computer run "slow" with the application removed or is the whole thread dedicated to the slowness of this EMR app launching? Does other windows network functionality run just as slow? Has it added some funky DNS entries in the hosts file? I would have to agree with watching process explorer to see which process is taking so long to initialize.

Hey Guys,So I'm stumped here - I need some input... I know this is a super specific issue to this program (Medical Application - An EMR), but I feel like there is something being left... Anyways... Let me walk you through what's going on and what I've done...I'm havinganissue at a clients site where acertainpart of their primary Application takes a little over 2 minutes to run. Yes - you heard me right. You go to this part of their app, click Run, and it takes about 2 Minutes and 10 Seconds. This should take about 5 Seconds. The CPU does not max out (Stays at about 40%), the Memory is about 80% Full, and the speed is the sameregardlessof if the machine has a SSD or not. This effects LAN and WLAN Machines. Hell, it even effects a few of their servers- So I know it's not a resource issue. I have even ran SQL Traces an verified nothing is...

  • Server slowness issue: Due to sql delete for 8 lakhs rows

Hi. We had faced an issue like PeopleSoft server utilization went to 94 % due to a sql execution
that sql was about deleting 8 lakhs rows. I wonder will it create server slowness? deletion of 8 Lakhs rows will bring the performance down?

    Hi,
Could you clarificate which kind of PeopleSoft server is it?. Does it is a Process Scheduler or Application Server? How do you find that the cause of the slowness is the execution of a SQL and which process is executing it?.
How is the performance at DB level when the SQL is executed?
Please provide more infraestructure information, like Hardware architecture and OS version.

  • ACE slowness issue when one server goes down

    Hi,
We are having two application servers. Both are load balanced using ACE.
When we bring down one server, we find that when we upload some files into the second application server, its too slow.
But when primary server comes up again the performance increases. This issue happens only when we bring the primary server down.
We are using cookie based stickiness.Any ideas where we can look into.
    Rgds.,
    Sachin

Depending on the load-balancing algorithm or predictor that you configure, the ACE performs a series of checks and calculations to determine which server can best service each client request. The ACE bases server selection on several factors including the source or destination address, cookies, URLs, HTTP headers, or the server with the fewest connections with respect to load.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
You can ignore those disk permissions messages:

Regarding your performance problems, I'd use the Activity Monitor utility. Launch it, then set the list at the top to "All Processes". Click on the "CPU" column heading to put the highest CPU consumers at the top of the list. Leave the program running while you're using your Mac. If you encounter problems with performance, check the Activity Monitor window to see if there are particular processes consuming a lot of CPU time. If you see something possibly interesting but don't know how interpret it, post the details here and someone should be able to offer advice.
