T440s won't sleep with wireless NIC enabled

Windows 8.1 used to allow automatic sleep on battery (after idle timeout).  It stopped working.  It will go to sleep if manually executed, but not after the idle timeout.  I've called Microsoft, Intel and Lenovo support - all COMPLETELY USELESS.  After 4 days of testing and reading forums and online posts, I've determined the issue to relate to the Intel Wireless AC 7260.  If the card is connected to an access point (any) the laptop will not automatically enter sleep.  If I activate airplane mode or disable the wireless NIC (wired NIC no impact) the laptop will go to sleep after being idle.  I have tried the driver updates, rollbocks (both Intel supplied and Lenovo), the homegroup removal (this is a domain computer never in "private network" mode anyway).  Nothing has helped other than disabling the wireless nic - which is now I use the laptop 98% of the time.  Any help/thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Maybe something heavier handed will work:
Download the latest Intel wifi driver package (apparently 17.0.5.8):
http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php/downloads/Drivers/Intel/Wlan/PROSet-Wireless-WiFi-Software/...
Have it saved but don't install yet.
Grab RAPR:
https://driverstoreexplorer.codeplex.com/
Enumerate and sort by Driver Class. You should find a section under Network Adapters. Check everything Intel and Network Adapter (except the one belonging to the wired NIC; identify this by the driver version). Check Force Deletion, and then Delete Packages.
Reboot and you should have no wireless driver installed. Now attempt to install the latest 17.0.5.8 drivers.
Do back up any saved wireless network passwords as this will clear that list.

  • DataSocket fails intermittently with multiple NICs enabled using LV7.1

Using LV7.1 and Datasocket v4.2, I was intermittently (but quite often) having problems reading and writing to the datasocket server (primarily from the server side). My application should read the value in the item and upon finding a specific string it should immediately follow it with a write of a default string. However, it can find the same string multiple times and not complete the write. Logging the errors from the write shows that no error is occurring. The client is not at fault because it only writes the string once every few minutes. I was able to finally show that by disabling the extra NIC on my system running the datasocket server that the connection seems to operate reliably. Both NICs
were set to static IP addresses, but only one was connected. I do have the program writing to "dstp://localhost/UUT" as opposed to a specific IP address (not sure if it matters).
With Labview6.1 I did not have this problem. It was only after I re-compiled my application with LV7.1 that I started having issues.

    Philip,
I do not feel I am running out of bandwidth since I have run it successfully on 1Gbit NIC connections on a P4 2.4GHz system as well as a 10/100Gbit NIC on an old 650MHz system with LV6.1. I only do two writes per variable (on up to 8 variables) once every few minutes. I did not seem to be a re-entrant VI issue.
I have created two VIs which should allow you to recreate the failing conditions with multiple NICs enabled. It responds very quickly with one NIC enabled, but when one or two more NICs is enabled, it gets very slow to respond and has some timeouts.
One VI is the writer, the other is the reader. Start both VIs and start all 8 reader loops. Then you can consecutive
ly click on all 8 sender loops. Doing this with and without multiple NICs enabled should show you the problem.
Note: I think the issue I was talking about in earlier posts about getting multiple strings back before it wrote out "Loop" was due to the fact that the writes were not occurring quickly enough and the reads were happening multiple times. Therefore, in these VIs, I revised the read and close timeouts to -1.
I think it would be best if you could call me so we can discuss this issue. If you can email me, I will send you my contact information if you don't already have access to it.

    Hello,
have a problem. I'm using external monitor with my MacBook Pro. If I close the lid, I see all windows on external monitor and Yosemite won't sleep. Can you help me please? My external monitor is Samsung 21.5" and I'm connecting it to MacBook Pro via DVI.

  • Macbook won't sleep with power adapter plugged in

    Hi,
My Macbook has stopped going to sleep if the power adapter is plugged in.
I have the power adapter energy setting to sleep after 30 minutes. When I got the Macbook (about a month ago) the thing would sleep until I pressed the spacebar.
Now, the screen blanks but otherwise the Mac remains awake.
If I close the lid the Mac immediately goes to sleep.
I have reset the SMU but this didn't fix the problem. I also checked disk permissions and verified the disk in Disk Utility - all good.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    John

my MacBook has also stopped going to sleep with the power adapter plugged in or when using battery power, unless I close the lid. Did you ever figure out the problem? Did you try calling Apple Care?
    thanks,

  • HP Director won't work with Wireless Print Server

I have an HP 5500 Office Jet all in one.  It comes with bundled software called HP Director that enables scanning, printing, and faxing.  The software worked fine while I had the printer connected to my pc with a USB cable.
To give myself flexibility I installed a WPSM54G Linksys Wireless G Printserver.  There is no direct connection between my printer and pc anymore.
Printing still works fine.  This is being handled by the Linksys software.
The HP Director no longer can find the printer.  When I try to scan (for example) using HP Director, I get a message that "an error occurred communicating with the printing device...".  It presumably is looking for a direct USB connection, and not finding one.
I can't find a fix on the HP site, but I imagine there must be one.  Wireless print servers have been around for quite a while.  Is there a download that will solve this problem?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi JoJoh,
I can't be of much help with the printer but I just checked my "Pages" and my version number is 4.0.2. I'm using iWork 09. Perhaps you need to update? I just checked the "Snow Leopard Compatible" site and found "Apple Pages 4.0.2" is compatible. It didn't mention 1.0.2. I'm so sorry. That's pretty rough when it's how you make your living.
As for the printer, I have an HP Photosmart C4580 which wouldn't print. I finally just deleted all the printers on my MacBook and used my Snow Leopard install disk and selected the "Optional Install" which allowed me to just reinstall the printers. My HP is now working fine. I do feel like this is just a work-around until HP gets things sorted out. I say that because even though my HP now works, the only place it shows up is in my users folder. It's not in my Applications folder, but as long as it works for now, I don't care.
Hope I was of some help to you. Best of luck!

  • New iMac won't sleep with internet sharing on

Less than 3 month old iMac (core i5) has stoppped being able to sleep when Internet Sharing is enabled. It took me a good while to narrow it down to that but I've confirmed that when Internet sharing is off, it will sleep as it's supposed to. When sharing is on though, not only will it not automatically sleep per the energy saver setting, it wo'nt even sleep when forced with the Apple command. The display will  turn off, but the machine does not sleep. I can tell by the facts that my wifi access on my iPhone continues to run off the iMac, and the Caps lock on the keyboard remains lit. (Too bad the blinking LED is no more on the new iMacs).
Sleep was working fine when I first got the new machine; it seems to have stopped shortly after I upgraded to Lion. (I think it may have been working for a few days after installing Lion, but I'm not positive...I'm thinking now I just thought it was asleep because the display would turn off.)
I've looked at all the related sleep posts I could find but nothing seems to address this particular issue. I know I could just turn off sharing whenver I want it to sleep, but tha't's like having to disconnect my car battery when I want to shut the car off.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jamie

Well, I'm certainly no expert at this and I'd never enable internet sharing (being too concerned about the health of my Mac and/or not knowing what untoward sites/networks/people may be seeking access), but it seems to me that having it turned on means that your computer is sharing a connection, so anytime anyone on the network seeks access, it will either wake up the Mac or cause it to stay awake. Here is an excerpt from the Help Menu (in Finder) (which has nothing to do with your question, but I found it interesting nonetheless):
If your Internet connection and your local network use the same port (Ethernet, for example), investigate possible side effects before you turn on Internet sharing. In some cases (if you use a cable modem, for example) you might unintentionally affect the network settings of other ISP customers, and your ISP might terminate your service to prevent you from disrupting its network.

  • Windows won't boot with Virtualization Techonology enabled

My Windows won't boot if I enable Virtualization Technology. I've read the other forums and have tried to both disable and update the Bluetooh and Wifi drivers before enabling virtualization again but that's not working. I've also updated the Bios but that doesn't work either.

  • Mac Mini 2009 SL 6.0.1 won't sleep with Wake on Demand turned on...

I'm having an issue where my Mac Mini 2009 won't go to sleep at all when I have Wake on Demand turned on. I have been manually making it go to sleep and then loath and behold its back on a few minutes later. I know it's supposed to turn on once every two hours or so, but my Mini appears to not be sleeping at all after it turns back on. I thought this feature was supposed to save me electricity and money, not the opposite. I also have the Mac to go to asleep after 5 minutes. It's not doing that either. I haven't checked the logs to see what's going on. Any ideas?

Nope. I did change a few settings and the mac now manages to sleep. However, it wakes a few minutes later and then eventually goes back to sleep. This process cycles.
I found some good info on this site...
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10330473-263.html?tag=mncol
I basically just went into the terminal and with root privileges did a "pmset -a ttyskeepawake 0" which turns off the possibility of a remote login event.
Because my initial error message also was saying something about my airport I assumed it might be worth turning on AirPort on the Mini and forcing it not to make any connections to my AirPort Extreme station. At this point, I have turned off AirPort to see what it does with just the ttyskeepawake option turned off.
I might try a PMU reset to see if that has any effect.
Another thing that comes to mind is I have the Mac Mini hooked up to a Denon AV Receiver and then to an HDTV via a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. Perhaps, the Denon is waking it up?

  • HP 6520 won't scan with wireless connection and new router

My printer scanned fine before.  Got a new internet provider=new router and now I can't scan scan anymore.  The computer is connected wirelessly.  The computer says it cannot communicate with the scanner.  Same if I try from the printer front panel, it says it can't communicate with the computer.
The router seems like the obvious cuprit, but nothing in the router settings or manual suggest anything that could be blocking the scanner communications.  The router firewall is turned-off.
Printing works fine, and I can connect to the printer through its IP address.  The user interface can see the printer status, check ink levels, everything.  Everything works but scanning.  I've re-installed software multiple times, tried turning off firewalls and tried HP Scan and Print doctor.  It's not much help.
    I'm at wits end.
    -ETC

Hello @etcottle , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are experiencing scan connectivity issues.  I would like to help!
I would recommend powering down your computer,  disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, and remove the power from your router for 60 seconds.
After 60 seconds, plug the router back in.  Once the router has begun broadcasting, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
After the printer is on, re-run the wireless setup.

  • Macbook Pro won't sleep with lid closed problem sorted!

I have experienced and read about many other people having the problem of not being able to put the macbook to sleep propery, and opening your bag to find it is boiling hot and still awake... i have tried all of the solutions posted on this forum such as resetting the PRAM, emptying the cache and so on and nothing has worked until now.
So for any of you out there experiencing this problem, i reccomend you this website which gave me the solution to my problem anyway, and i feel is well worth a try for you too as it is a harmless operation and is easily reviersible if it does not work.

I saw that this question was asked before but no answer was given. I got my iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10 brand new yesterday. • BC4J Tester won't run with SunJCE provider enabled in JDev 903

I have a working BC4J project that I can access via the Tester and via code in JDev 903. The Module is deployed in 'Local' mode.
I go into <jdev_home>\jdk\jre\lib\security\java.security and add the following line:
    security.provider.3=com.sun.crypto.provider.SunJCE
I can no longer run the BC4J Tester - I get "java.lang.NullPointerException" - that's it - in the log window when I try to run the tester. I can still access the BC4J Module via code, just as before enabling the SunJCE provider, its just the Tester that won't run. My code that uses the SunJCE provider runs fine.
I then comment out the new line in java.security, and the Tester runs fine again. (But, of course, my code that needs the SunJCE provider does not...)
Note that I added this provider as the lowest order provider - the following is how java.security is setup when JDev is installed:
    security.provider.1=sun.security.provider.Sun
    security.provider.2=com.sun.rsajca.Provider
    Any thoughts or ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jim Stoll
(I need this provider for something else I'm doing which uses both the SunJCE provider and BC4J, independent of each other)

    Hi,
Can you create a JClient project to test your application module? I have not found why it failed in Tester when using SunJCE privider, but found that if I create a simple JClient using the same application module, it work.
    Thanks,
    Yvonne

  • Won't sleep with 2 monitors

    Hi
My G4 GE will not sleep when I have dual monitors connected.
I have the stock AGP Rage Card with a Sony CRT.
And I have an additional PCI Rage card with an Apple Studio Display.
When the second monitor is connected, the mac will not go to sleep. (I click Sleep in the Apple menu - both monitors go out but the mac is still running).
If I disconnect the second monitor, everything is fine. The machine sleeps normally.
Anybody know why this is? Is it fixable? I've done the prefs trashing.

    Hi, IndiGo!.
    1. What changes did you make to your Mac before this problem arose? If the problem arose after making a change, it's possible the change is the cause. Is the addition of a "second monitor" the latest change?
    2. You wrote: "When the second monitor is connected, the mac will not go to sleep. (I click Sleep in the Apple menu - both monitors go out but the mac is still running)."This implies that whatever graphics card or monitor from the two pairs you specified that is "the second monitor" is not responding to Mac OS X power management commands. The Mac may then be in Doze, vs. Deep Sleep mode.
If the "PCI Rage" card is driving the second monitor, assure you have the correct drivers for such.
    Good luck!

  • IMac G5 Won't Sleep with USB Hard Drive Attached

I purchased an external USB powered hard drive, connected it, put the computer to sleep, and the computer immediately awoke saying the device was not put away properly.
I then unmounted the drive, put the computer to sleep, and got the same message.
Called Seagate support, and they said it's an OS issue.
    Returned the drive.
Bought a Hitachi USB powered hard drive. Exact same thing happens.
Is it not possible to put this machine to sleep when attached to a USB powered hard drive? I had no problem with a powered USB drive.

Every external drive in an enclosure has an on/off switch, read the manual that came with the drive, or ask Hitachi. You seem to have it turned on permanently. If you don't turn it off before unplugging it, of course the computer will complain that it was improperly put away - you need to drag the image of the drive to the Trash to eject it before removing the USB cable or click on eject under File in the Menu bar.
