T510 - wired ethernet blocks Internet connection

I'm getting really frustrated with the Lenovo network management system. It seems overly complex and way too slow. In addition, on my home network, the wireless connection always seems to be favoured.
When I plug in my ethernet connection, the system sees it as an unknown connection and promptly drops Internet access (although I can still see my local network). Even if I do manage to fiddle it into working, as soon as I reboot the Internet connection fails again. Doing a network repair does not work. Often, the only way to get Internet access is to unplug the ethernet cable.
I've fiddled around with this for hours. I've played with all of the options, as well as 'include ethernet connection in location change' but to no avail. I just can't get the ethernet connection to work consistently.
This should be dead simple (and is on all my other computers). You just plug the cable in and it works. I'm open to suggestions....

If there was a hard power switch on the wireless function, I would just turn it off and run as wired, like I've done on previous machines. I seldom if ever used wireless, but others in the household do, so I can't remove the router.
Hi GlenT,
There is a hardware switch on the left of your T510, the one that has green color.

  • How to block internet connection for a period of time?

Hey guys is there a way to block internet connection via a lan connection for a period of time? A program that when my pc is boot up it run secretly and at the time schedule it block the internet connection with no pop up. When i not at home some person
used my pc to use my internet connection everyday. I can't lock up my pc since my brother or my dad used it.

    Hi,
You could create a schedule task to achieve this.
The detailed solution please refer to this thread:

  • Can I use Ethernet for Internet connection and Airport express for printer

How / can I use Ethernet for Internet connection and use an airport express to set up wifi for printer and Apple TV?
    Macbook Pro. OS X 10.9.4

I've never tried it, so I don't know what the results will be.
However, you can move Ethernet to the top of the Services list in Network System Prefs which will cause it to be the Internet source. There is a command in the gear menu to set the Service order.  However, after thinking about it, if there isn't an internet connection via Wi-Fi, it might automatically drop down to the Ethernet connection.
Then, you can set up your Wi-Fi so that it doesn't connect to the Internet, as Linc stated. How to do that would be dependent on the Router.

  • Thunderport to ethernet slow internet connection

    Hello,
I just bought a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet connection cable for my MBA Mid 2012 and I'm experiencing slow internet connection.  I have TWC 50mbs service and routinely test at around 55mbs on Speedtest.net.  I just plugged in the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet cable and now it's down to a trickle at around 1-2mbs down and up.  Ping times are good, just the throughput is slow.
    Is this normal? Thanks!

Thank you both for your quick help! I figured out it was my Network setting, I had to set it to manual and to 1000baseT or something like that with full duplex.  Now I am getting full throughput.  I think for some reason, the "Automatic" setting wasn't working with my Switch (DLink Gigabit 8 port switch).  When I went to manual, it worked.
Your response clicked in my head to check the hardware not focus on the internet speed.  Thanks!

  • Hard wired PC losing internet connection with WRT160N V2 Router

I'm new to routers and I just added a WRT160N (V2) router.  The wireless connection through my laptop is great. However, I have 1 PC physically connected to the router. The internet connection is sporadic on this PC. I have high speed "wireless" internet service and sometimes you click on the internet or check e-mail and there is no internet connection. It seems to be after the PC has sat idle for a while. When you click the internet, the PC icon on the router does not even blink - its like the PC and router are not talking. If it does connect, the connection is great. Any help would be appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a known issue with intermittent connectivity and the Build 11 firmware for the WRT160N V2. Build 11 is the current firmware on the Linksys site. Check to see if you have Build 11 if your router is a V2.
Downgrading to Build 8 is generally accepted to correct these issues, however Linksys have indicated to several people they do not have the build 8 firmware to give to end users.
This is ONLY for WRT160N V2 routers. This firware will not work on WRT160N V1.
You can find it at http://audipages.com/router/
Follow the dowload and firmware downgrade instructions on that page.

  • Can you use a wired ethernet to internet AND wireless to apple tv

since getting the appletv, i had connected it wirelessly through the apple extreme (n) base station and kept my internet setup with gigaport #1 with no problem. since the latest updates, apple tv is very sensitive....does not work if the wired ports are used and will not even show up in iTunes.....anyone having similar problems? anyone able to fix this? thanks

    thanks WC.
i saw this post and went to my account, changed it from m/c to none and saw my total update (I had recently rented 2 HD movies so my account decreased accordingly)
BUT, before I left the pay't information screen, I chose cancel instead of done. I wanted to leave my CC there for iphone purchases (and b/c we can't use GCs yet).
Anyhoo, it still worked - and I'm glad it did b/c I just purchased $100 in GCs from the latest best buy sale.

  • Proxies blocking internet connection?

My indigo 366 Clamshell running OS9.2 with Airport won't connect to the Netgear router, although an identical one does. I have checked the TCP/IP window and some other IP address is shown (169.....) and my router is 192.... I can't get it to recognise my local network. It also says a password is needed to connect, and when I add the hexadecimal local network WEP number, it says "problem connecting to network". Could this be a proxy block? Any help would be very useful. Thanks.

I can't get any signal bar to show up either on the non-connecting laptop, and I am baffled as to why the default IP address is different.
If you aren't seeing any wireless network the iBook isn't connecting to any network. Since it isn't connecting to any network, the iBook can't communicate with the DHCP server and therefore it assigns itself an IP address starting with 169.
If the iBook can't see the wireless network, one (or more) of the following is true:
The AirPort card's antenna wire isn't properly connected.
The AirPort card's RF interface isn't working properly.
Have you tried swapping the AirPort cards between the 2 iBooks? If the failure follows the AirPort card you know that the AirPort card has a problem.

  • AEBS Dropping Internet Connection q 45 minutes

I have the new airport extreme base station. I bought it January and it has worked flawlessly for the past 6 months. recently, in the past week or so, I began getting a dropped internet connection happening every 45 minutes or so.
    About my set up:
Cable modem supplying connection to AEBS via ethernet. VOIP box connected to AEBS via ethernet getting internet connection from AEBS. Playstation 3 connected via ethernet to AEBS. Airport Express base station linked to airport extreme base station wirelessly (of course) to share printer connection via USB. iBook G4 1.2ghz running Mac OSX 10.4.9
    Trouble Shooting.
Originally I would unplug the cable modem for 30 seconds and plug it back in. This would reset the connection and i would have service again for 45 minutes. I decided to test whether or not it was the router or modem that was kicking me so I unplugged the ethernet cable coming from the modem to the AEBS and plugged it directly into my computer and turned off my airport connection, essentially hardwiring the ibook directly to the modem. I got kicked off again. At this point i drew the conclusion that it was the modem and contacted my cable company. After a bunch phone conversations that essentially accomplished nothing, they sent a tech out to my house. He replaced my old (3 years) cable with a brand new one to test out. I left my computer wired directly via ethernet to the new modem and this time DID NOT receive any drops in connection over a period of 4 hours. I reconnected the ethernet cable from the modem to the AEBS and reset my connection and decided to test out wireless. It dropped me again in 45 minutes. I left the cable modem connected to the AEBS via ethernet and unplugged the ethernet cable coming out of the AEBS that gos to my VOIP box and plugged my computer into the AEBS via ethernet and disconnected from airport on my computer. I was again dropped in 45 minutes. I reset my modem and unplugged the ethernet cable coming out of AEBS that gos to my Playstation 3. Again I was dropped within 45 minutes. After that, I reconnected both the PS3 and VOIP box ethernet cables and unplugged my computers ethernet cable from the AEBS and have just been using the wireless connection and resetting the modem every 45 minutes when it drops. Oh yeah and I forgot to mention that I plugged the Playstation 3 directly into the cable modem via ethernet and played online for 4 hours without interruption/disconnect. Anyways, I am back to square one. I believe based on the evidence above that the problem lies within the Airport Extreme base station router some how, but I have no idea what the problem is.
What happens when my connection is dropped:
I can be doing anything from using an instant messaging service to trying to load a web page using firefox or safari. Basically the page fails to load, i get a message saying it can't find the server. Usually at this point I will open up network utility and try to ping yahoo.com. It doesn't ping and says it can't find the server. I go to the modem and unplug the power for 30 seconds and replug it back in. As soon as everything back up I have my connection back.
    What the cable company did:
They looked at their connections, including the fiber optic node for the area. They did not find any outages or problems within their system. They plugged my coxial cable into a modem/tester box (not sure exactly what it was) to evaluate signal received via coxial cable which they said was working properly. they checked my cable connection from house to street and didn't find any compromises in the wire/cable.
I have downloaded and installed the latest firmware for my AEBS. I am out of ideas. Can anyone help?
    ibook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.3)
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I had the same problem earlier this year with my cable carrier. At first I thought it was the modem so I replaced the Dlink with an Apple Extreme and it still kept happening. After some research on MacInTouch I found that using an earlier version of the base station software made the problem go away. So I never updated and all was well with the world. Till last week and now like you I am dropping connections every hour or so no matter what application I am running or what site I am on the internet.
A friendly tech admitted to me that there was a problem with the way the modem communicates with the provider and that they were aware of the problem but that there was nothing he could do to help me.
That is when I cured the problem temporarily by using the base station software from 2004. If I find an answer to the return of the problem I will post it. Please let me know if you find a solution.

  • Are there any issues when using AirPlay on an Apple TV that is using a shared internet connection?

I am currently in a hotel and I have my MacBook Pro, iPad, and Apple TV (2nd gen). The hotel I'm in has both wired and wireless internet connections. I cannot directly connect my Apple TV to either connection because the hotel connections require you to agree to some terms and conditions that the Apple TV can't access. To further complicate things the ethernet connection in my room doesn't work at all. So the solution I found to at least connect the Apple TV to the internet was this: using my MacBook Pro, I connected to the hotel wireless connection (to bypass the hotel internet's T&C). I then shared that wireless connection via ethernet to the Apple TV. It works. I can watch YouTube and Netflix but I can't take advantage of AirPlay. I've updated, restored, and reset the Apple TV numerous times, but no luck. Are there any settings or connections I'm missing?

Airplay from what?  iTunes or iPad?
I assume iPad - in this setup the iPad and AppleTv will be unlikely to be able to see each other on the hotel network even if both are connected wirelessly.  If they can and you don't have a user/room  specific login I'd be concerned about other users seeing my devices too.   These things are generally designed for single user access not to create your own local network.  I suspect in the T&Cs for the wi-fi service it may preclude sharing the internet connection with another device, but if it works....

  • Windows 8.1 Group Policies For Internet Connection Sharing?

Are there any more detailed policies available other than simply allowing or blocking Internet Connection Sharing?
I need to find out if there are policies allow management of Internet Connection Sharing?  For instance we would like to allow ICS, but control it so that it cannot be set up by the user in unsafe manner.
We would like to either set the PSK password in advance or at least disallow weak ICS WPA passwords.  It would also be a good idea if we could set up ICS so that only domain joined computers from our domain could join the ICS session from another computer
on our domain or else disallow direct access and file sharing between the ICS host and the guests joining the ICS network.
Can these types of things be managed via group policy?

  • Virus Software Turned Off & Internet Connection Problem

My laptop has been slowing down, but it was fine otherwise.   A few days ago, I turned it on and received warning messages from the HP Action Center and HP Support Center that my Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software was no longer on.  I never turned them off and they've been working fine for 6 months or so, so it's not like I just installed them recently.  Since the problem started, I've tried several times to turn them back on, but the computer just doesn't do anything.  It asks if I trust Kaspersky and want to run the app, I click on yes, and then nothing happens.  I've also tried to run the software by using the Kaspersky desktop icon, but that won't do anything either.   The same time that this problem occurred, I also lost my ability to fully connect to the internet (DSL connection).  I can get to the Firefox homepage, but whenever I try to get to any other website, even simple ones like Google, nothing happens.  I've tried everything I can think of to fix these problems (except for using the refresh/restore option, which I'd like to avoid if possible).  I've power-cycled the modem, run diagnostics and network checks, and I installed MalwareBytes from a USB drive and ran that scan, but it didn't find any problems.  At the same time that these other problems began, I did see a brief notice that said that a Windows update failed, but I don't know if that caused these other issues or if it just failed because the other issues prevented the update.  Kaspersky's tech support has not been very helpful.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Keep in mind that I can't access the internet from the affected computer, so I can't download anything directly to it.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I came across your post about the multiple issues that you are having, and wanted to assist you! Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall your Anti-Virus and Spyware program?  You can try performing a System Recovery.  If that does not work, you may also consider a Hard Reset.  Do you have a wired, or wireless internet connection?  What type of internet browser are you using?  Here are some additional resources that may help you with the internet connection:HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wired Home Networks (Windows 8)HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 8)HP PCs - Resolving issues in Internet Explorer (Windows 8) Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.

  • Problem connecting my macbook pro to a wired internet connection via ethernet cable adapter

I am having a problem connecting my macbook to a wired internet connection in an area in my workplace where there is no wifi.  The macbook works fine on the same internet connection via wifi in other parts but when I add it as a wired connection it doesn't show any connection.  I have turned off wifi to make sure that it is not trying to pick up a poor connection but I still can't get this to work.  I think I am trying to set up the connection properly but can't be completely sure.  Any help would be appreciated.

Open System Preferences>Network and make sure Ethernet is selected. If it is, open Advanced Settings (at the bottom of the Network window). Click on the TCP/IP tab. Configure IPv4 should be set to "Using  DHCP".
Configure IPv6 should be set to "Automatically". When those are set click the "Renew DHCP Lease" button

  • Can AirPort express be used for AirPlay with my home stereo, and to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via ethernet, simultaneously?

I am considering buying an airport but I am not sure if it will work how I would like it to.  I need it for two things.  The first would be to use for AirPlay with my home stereo.  The second would be to use as a way to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via the ethernet port.  I would like to do these things simultaneously, rather than constantly changing the configuration and being limited to a single function each time I do so.
    Thanks!

The 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can be configured as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, it would join an existing wireless network and its Ethernet port would be enabled for a wired client, like your Xbox 360. This configuration would also support AirPlay simultaneously.

  • How can I connect my i pad to a hard wired ethernet internet connection?

  • Problem connecting to internet with wired ethernet

Shortly after installing the Leopard 10.5.2 update, I could not connect to the internet through the wired ethernet connection. Connected wireless with no problem. Spent time with Apple tech. Determined that the machine was fine. Told to check the wall port. Had a windows PC connect fine through same cable and wall port. Also brought the MacBook to a different location. Connected to the ethernet port and connected to the internet successfully. Determined that the MacBook kept using an IP address of 192.168.1.103. This is the wrong address for my connection. The correct IP address is 172.16.7.1. Installed this address manually in the MacBook and established a connection. The MacBook cannot seem to connect automatically at this location. The Windows PC connects fine. The MacBook keeps coming up with the wrong IP address. Any idea what could be causing this??

The IP address when connected to a router will start with 192.168.x.x.
When connected to a modem you will get a different address.
When you connect to a cable modem for the first time it looks at the Media Access Control (MAC) address of whatever is connected.
It is a unique number for your device.
It only attaches to one device and provides an internet connection to that device by way of an IP address.
If you wish to connect another device and get an IP address for that new device, you need the modem to start over, since it has a monogamous relationship with the connected device.
In order to have the modem drop its relationship, it needs to be restarted.
This is not true of a dsl modem.
It sounds like your modem has linked with the MAC address of the router.
In order to connect directly to the modem and get it to link to your computer, you need to unplug the router from power.
    Disconnect its ethernet cable.
Restart the modem after about 15 seconds and wait until it restarts, about 2 minutes.
Then reconnect the modem and you will likely be able to connect to the internet.
