Virus Software Turned Off & Internet Connection Problem

My laptop has been slowing down, but it was fine otherwise.   A few days ago, I turned it on and received warning messages from the HP Action Center and HP Support Center that my Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software was no longer on.  I never turned them off and they've been working fine for 6 months or so, so it's not like I just installed them recently.  Since the problem started, I've tried several times to turn them back on, but the computer just doesn't do anything.  It asks if I trust Kaspersky and want to run the app, I click on yes, and then nothing happens.  I've also tried to run the software by using the Kaspersky desktop icon, but that won't do anything either.   The same time that this problem occurred, I also lost my ability to fully connect to the internet (DSL connection).  I can get to the Firefox homepage, but whenever I try to get to any other website, even simple ones like Google, nothing happens.  I've tried everything I can think of to fix these problems (except for using the refresh/restore option, which I'd like to avoid if possible).  I've power-cycled the modem, run diagnostics and network checks, and I installed MalwareBytes from a USB drive and ran that scan, but it didn't find any problems.  At the same time that these other problems began, I did see a brief notice that said that a Windows update failed, but I don't know if that caused these other issues or if it just failed because the other issues prevented the update.  Kaspersky's tech support has not been very helpful.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Keep in mind that I can't access the internet from the affected computer, so I can't download anything directly to it.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I came across your post about the multiple issues that you are having, and wanted to assist you! Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall your Anti-Virus and Spyware program?  You can try performing a System Recovery.  If that does not work, you may also consider a Hard Reset.  Do you have a wired, or wireless internet connection?  What type of internet browser are you using?  Here are some additional resources that may help you with the internet connection:HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wired Home Networks (Windows 8)HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 8)HP PCs - Resolving issues in Internet Explorer (Windows 8) Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.

Is there anyway i can put a stop to emails between a set period of time say 10pm - 6am without turning off internet connection.

The only ways in iOS would be to stop using push mail or timed fetch mail and switch the account(s) to manual fetch.  That way, you only get mail when you open the mail app. to use it.
Or, you could selectively disable wifi and cellular data - voice calls and SMS texts would still come through then.
Other than that, I cannot think of a way to selectively disable email by itself.

  • Is it possible to turn off "Internet Connect / Authentication Failed" msgs

Greetings and thank you for your time.
My network connect is set up to automatically connect wirelessly or through Ethernet...this is fine.
However, every time I open my notebook or start it up,
If my computer cannot connect through those two, (airport is off/no cable attached) it constantly sends the pop-up message: "Internet Connect / Authentication Failed". 3 times over a period of 15min.
Is there any way to turn this warning off ?
I am not trying to access a connection & Mail/Safari are closed.
It makes it frustrating when you arrive at a meeting to start a presentation and you keep getting this popup that blocks all functions till you acknowledge it and click "ok".
Any suggestions other then turning off auto connect (which I appreciate when I do turn on Airport or plug in an ethernet cable.
Thank you for any support on this.
    Best regards, T

If all that fails, maybe get Little Snitch, it tells you when a program tries to send info to the internet so you can see what's going on in the background!

  • Since download of Firefox Hello desktop & laptop both on Windows 7 are very slow even after refresh, download history removed and anti virus software turned off

Since download of Firefox Hello my home desktop & laptop, both on Windows 7, are very slow to open. I have refreshed firefox, removed download history and turned off the anti virus software in extensions. All the plugins are up to date. Can we revert back to Firefox without Firefox Hello?

Firefox Hello is simply a wrapper for technology already in Firefox, it doesn't negatively impact performance if you aren't using it. Are you saying that your entire computer is slow or just Firefox?

  • Turn off "internet connection" on 3G

    Hello,
I use a pre-paid plan on my iPhone 3G, and it's often that a friend click on something (or a app tries to connect) that requires a connection and takes most of the credit on my plan.
I only use the internet using the free wi-fi hotspots available in my area and not much often. So I turn it off to save battery, however when I turn if off it starts using GPRS using my paid credits.
So I would like to block the access, any idea?
    Thank you all in advance.

    You're welcome.
SMS messages are transferred via the same avenue as calls.
Blocking data access at the source for your account will prevent ANY internet functions with your iPhone unless you are connected via wi-fi. This will also eliminate the visual voicemail feature with the iPhone. All visual voicemail messages are downloaded to the iPhone via the cellular network only.
Your cellular provider can block data access or internet access via their cellular network for your account, which is the only way to prevent any data access over the cellular network with the iPhone.
As long as you have cellular reception, the iPhone is designed to have an internet connection - via wi-fi or cellular, with the iPhone switching from an available wi-fi network that you have access to the cellular network automatically and seamlessly and back again.

  • Turning off Internet Connect automatic prompt

I have a Verizon Broadband Express wireless card for internet connections. I constantly have to turn off the prompt to start Internet Connect function. To try and stop this, I have gone to preferences and turned off the "Start internet connection when needed" function. It is annoying and distracting while giving a presentation.
PLEASE TELL ME how to get rid of this painful interruption.

FYI - this is the Internet and Networking discussions area for the iPhone only.

  • New Intel WIFI Link Driver Randomly cut off Internet Connection

Two day ago I used ThinkVantage SYstem Update and installed Intel Wifi link driver (ver 13.01.1000). But since then my computer was randomly cut off internet connection, and the wireless signal strength icon on the system tray indicated no nearby wireless network. And then it powered off the wireless connection. Whatever I do, I cannot re-power on the wireless (I used Access Connection to power on the 802.11 wireless radio, but it could not be turned on and nothing happened) unless I restart the computer.
I thought it might be the router that malfunctioned as this problem never happened before. But after I checked the router and used another notebook to test wireless connection, I was sure the router ran very well.
Then I re-installed the TVT Access Connection (ver 5.61) and the Intel WIFI Link Driver (ver 13.01.1000) but the problem remained. Could anybody give a possible solution?
I also noticed on Lenovo's website, the Intel wireless card driver for T61 is v13.00.0000 Windows Vista 23 Oct 2009. It's lower than what I have now. Could that be the cause?
My ThinkPad T61 has the following configuration:
    Model: T61 8897CTO
OS: WinVista Home Basic SP2 32bit
    Language: EN
    Wireless Card: Intel 3945 ABG
Wireless Card Driver: 13.1.1.1 (previous one was 13.0.0.0)
    TVT Access Connection: 5.61
    Solved!

    Hi carlven,
Anytime when wireless driver is updated, Access Connections also needs to be reistalled.
Do this, first uninstall your wireless driver and access connections, thereafter reboot your system. Then install wireless driver first, again reboot, subsequently install access connections, reboot again.
When installing any lenovo driver manually, keep in mind they first extract themselves to a default location in C:\Drivers..., second .exe setup must be run from that location to successfully install the drivers.
    Hope it helps.

  • RG54G2 Wireless Router Internet Connection Problem

    Hi,
(apologies for the long message - trying to cover all details - summary: wireless router often drops internet connection)
I recently bought an RG54G2 Wireless Router, a CB54G2 PCMCIA Wireless card and a D-Link GWL-630 PCMCIA Wireless card.  In addition to two laptops connected to the wireless router WLAN, I have two PCs (one Win WP Pro SP 1 and one Win98SE) connected to the router via wired LAN.  I also have a SurfBoard SB3100 Cable Modem connected to the WAN port (this connects to my ISP -  Optusnet (Australia) via DHCP).
The problem I have is that the internet connection is disconnected many times a day (often every few minutes, sometimes an hour or so).  I am able to reconnect by resetting the wireless router via the wireless router configuration page.  When the internet is disconnected I am still able to access the computers on the LAN/WLAN (via Windows Explorer and Ping), I am also able to ping the router and the Cable Modem, but nothing outside of the cable modem.
Also, when the internet is disconnected the System Status page indicates that the router is still connected to the internet, and the Diagnostics page passes the Test Connection test, though no external pings work.
I did not have this problem when the cable modem was connected directly to the Win98SE PC (and other PCs via ICS).
I have disabled the WLAN and the problem still exists with only the wired LAN.
I have changed numerous settings in the wireless router config page with no success (eg disabling DHCP and setting each IP address, minimising LAN and WLAN speeds to 10 and 11MBps plus others).
I have upgraded the wireless router firmware to R1.0.6.0 (no change to the problem).
Searching on Google I have found several other cases of routers with unstable internet connections (none refering to the MSI routers), but none had solutions that helped my situation (most replies suggested updating the firmware).
Any suggestions of how to make the router internet connection stable?
    Thanks,
    Mike

maybe this is the FIX 4 wireles router internet connection problem
please let me know if any one fix the problem with this tips
    thankz

Subject: SOLUTION to my router loosing connection to Windows XP
Reply | Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show original | Report Abuse
I am happy to report that after 8 days of constant battles, reboots, phone
calls, cable pulling, router changing, it seems that I finally have found a
combination that has had me using Verizon DSL account for over 12 hours so
far without any kind of interruptions.
Since so many of you tried giving me comments and suggestions, I felt that
it is necessary for me to post this here so that the next person will not
(hopefully) need to go through this hell as I did!
My original problem was that when after I purchased a D-Link Wireless Router
DI-624, I would get disconnected from Verizon DSL at least once every 2
hours or so. My internet access would "freeze" and then a little popup box
at the bottom right system tray would tell me that the "LAN cable has been
unplugged".   After about a minute or so, my internet connection would be
back working   This was NEVER happening during the 2+ years I was using my
Westell modem alone (running in router mode).
Please keep in mind: The problem I was having was not wireless related as
it was happening to the desktop computer to which the router/westell was
    connected to!
During these last 8 days, I tried: one DI-624 wireless router, two Netgear
614v3 routers and two Linksys WRT54G v.2 routers. In addition, I received a
brand new Westell 2200 modem from Verizon.   I also tried about four
different CAT-5 cables. Here is the final outcome:
I have the Linksys WRT54G (version 2) wireless router connected to the
Netgear Fast Ethernet FA310TX network card in Auto-Sense mode (using the
built-in XP drivers, as Netgear told me that there was never a newer
revision released). I have DISABLED the built-in 3Com Gigabit LOM (3C940)
network card (via the ASUS P4C800 Deluxe motherboard BIOS), DISABLED the
Zero Wireless Configuration service, and have put in the IP/Gateway/DNS
address numbers inside my Windows XP Network Connections | LAN setup. My
operating system is Windows XP Pro SP1 and the modem is a Westell 2200
    configured as bridge only.
If my situation continues to be stable, I *might* try to go back to the 3Com
built-in card (disable any power management) and then re-enabling the Zero
Wireless Configuration services. But in reality, I am happy with the way
things are and have already spent enough time trying to get my router to
work with Verizon DSL without having it drop connections!
Now, the next step will be setting up the WIRELESS part of this. I don't
even yet have a laptop with me on the premises, but the 802.11g card that I
already have is the D-Link DWL-G650. I hope and assume that this will work
    okay with the Linksys...
One thing I must say is that I never realized that how many problems other
users are having. I would have thought that since 802.11x has been around
in the mainstream by now 2+ years, that things would have been much more
"system friendlier".   And again, my issues were not even WIRELESS related.
All 3 tech supports were not really helpful, as none of them realized that
the problem is somehow between the router and Windows XP (Ethernet card?)
loosing a connection, which of course results in Verizon DSL loosing the
    connection also.
One other comment about the Netgear 614 v.3 router: A number of people have
responded to tell me that they have had this random "router resetting"
happen to them (where the routers behaves as if someone turned the power off
and then back on, and the lights flash) just as if you first turn it on). I
was lucky to witness it myself during one of the "disconnects" that I had.
This was actually the reason why I went back to try the Linksys one more
time. So, I would definitely recommend staying way from this 614 (version
    3) model.
Once again - THANK YOU everyone!

  • Turn off Spotify Connect

How do I disable Spotify Connect?
If I've got my tablet (iPad) running the app, I definitely don't want my phone running it and draining the battery with the app running there as well.
    Thanks
    Edit by
I've just added a guide on ways of disabling Spotify Connect. Hopefully there will be a way of enabling/disabling the service at will in the future.
    How to disable Spotify Connect
    MODERATOR EDIT:
Hey everyone, Spotify staff here. Recently we updated the Community Idea "Make Spotify Connect a choice" with the status "Not Right Now".
If you've installed our latest Spotify app for Android (1.8.0) and you're still having trouble with battery drain please let us know right here.
We'd also like to mention these other Connect ideas which are a bit more specific to the Connectrequests you've made in this thread. Please leave your kudos and feedback in those as well if they apply to the reasons you'd like to turn off Spotify Connect.
[Spotify Connect] Less pop-ups when I change devices
[Spotify Connect] Don’t automatically synchronize what i am playing across devices
[Spotify Connect] Add access control on my Connect devices
If you don't see the idea you'd like to see, please feel free to make a new idea and post a link in this thread. We're keeping a close eye on your feedback and we're actively bringing it back to the right teams.

Hi... I have a problem with this as well - I find it incredibly annoying. For example, I was out picking up a pizza and listening to spotify in my car... When I got home my girlfriend began listening to Spotify on her cell phone - and my cell phone began playing music from it because my device was the last selected. If at all possible, I'd like there to be a feature to turn this option OFF entirely. I can't see it being logical to have this on by default. I enjoyed the option that stopped my device from playing completely when someone else was using the same account from another machine, hopefully you can bring this back because it totally makes more sense than the way it is now.
I don't like the ability with anyone who has access to the account to be able to play music on any device that has the app open as well. This can be quite embarrassing if someone accidentally clicks on your device, say, as you go into a meeting with your phone in your pocket and it begins playing "It's raining men" or something... I hope you can understand my sentiment! Again this can be fixed if you just gave us an option to turn this off entirely for any (or all) device(s).

  • Can't turn off internet sharing

My brand new MacBook Pro has been working perfectly--until out of the blue internet sharing turns on everytime I boot up. I have never used internet sharing and certainly don't want to now, because I can't use my wireless network with it on.
My internet connection has been working flawlessly and I made no changes whatsoever (it simply was on once after booting up, and now is on forever), but I CAN'T turn off internet sharing. In my internet sharing preference panel it says that internet sharing is already off, but my airport menu bar says it is on. This is becoming most irritating. Any suggestions?

    Hello,
I update from 10.7.4 to 10.8 here and I have a big problem in Mail now:
I use a private IMAP server without SSL connection.
In Mail from 10.7.4 works this fine, but in 10.8 Mail would like a server certificate and an can't turn off SSL connection for the smtp server.
    What's the problem?
    Anybody can help me?
Sorry for my bad english :-)
    Greetings, Bernd

    I found a kludge:
Go in SMTP server setup -> Advanced and enable the option use costum port and fill out a port number (exp. 25).
Mail don't ask to an certificate anymore.
I hope, Apple remedy this problem in an 10.8 update.

  • Turn Off Internet

I am looking for an app or even settings that will turn off Internet access except via Wi-Fi .
Finding even if i am connected via Wi-Fi some applications ask for Internet access and saying Yes presuming they are going to use the Wi Fi connection  they then proceed to connect via  network providers internet charged connection .
Simple Internet via Network OFF .
Network Internet connection required then i have to actually switch it on .
      jjegan

There probably is not. +Settings > General > Network > Enable 3G > Off+ will just turn off 3G - meaning the phone will use EDGE or GPRS instead of the faster network, but it will still use data. Not sure that you can delete the Cellular Data Network settings, either, as those are not accessible on a locked phone like mine. call your carrier and have them deactivate your data plan. But that defeats one of the main reasons for having an iPhone, IMO.

  • Internet connectivity problems. Conflicting IP address?

For the last few months I have been experiencing significant internet connection problems on my mac mini. Although at times my connection is ok, the majority of the time I'm suffering from what would best be described as an "intermittent" internet connection. It seems that my internet connection is constantly cutting out for short periods of time before re-establishing itself.
I'm connected to the internet via a wireless network (netgear router). There are also two windows machines (one laptop and one desktop) and a PS3 connected on the same network (also occasionally there is a macbook connected to the network too).
I've been with the same ISP for over a year now and previously had always experienced a good connection, also all the other devices connected on this network seem to have fine connectivity so I doubt there is any problem with my service provider.
It could be a coincidence but the emergence of the problem seems to have conincided with my flatmates purchase of a laptop. When my flatmate first connected his laptop to the internet I received a message on my mac mini stating there was an IP address conflict, although I have not had that message again and I seem to suffer from bad connectivity at all times, not just when my flatmates laptop is turned on! Could these to issues be related?
I'd be very grateful for any advice on how to resolve this issue as it's getting to be a very significant problem, thanks in advance for any replies...

Also try using the open dns servers instead or your ISP's. System Preferences>Network. Advanced>DNS. Click on + and add the following: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. Hit Ok,then Apply.

    I've got the same problem.
I wanted to download the new itunes version for iphone but it got stuck. I had no choice but disconnecting my iphone. Then I couldn't sync it anymore.
I switched off my phone by holding down the sleep button but it has never successfully switched off. The round thing still turns.
I've tried to connect it back to the itunes. This is the error message I get: itunes can't connect to the iphone. Code 0xE8000065. I tried to find out what error message this is but the apple support site I saw didn't mention this error code.
    Can anyone help? Thaaanks!

I need to turn off internet recovery in Mountain Lion. The reason is if you use internet recovery you can access safari and although parental controls are on, internet is unmonitored. I want to ensure my MBP is secure from the darker parts of the internet and thus I don't want there to be any unmonitored internet access.
Is there a way to turn off internet recovery or is it hardwired into Mounatin Lion?

Open firmware password may be the way to do it.   Mind you, a clever enough person can bypass that, but it takes more effort than it usually is worth.  Put a hidden camera in the room if you are worried something will happen, and backup the data only when you are present.  And if you forget the open firmware password, you may have locked yourself out for good anyway.
