T60 Windows startup problem?

So today out of the blue my IBM t60 shut off. when i try to start it back up it gives a blue screen of death while on the windows screen (windows xp). This occurs every single time even when the option to boot into safe mode is used.
I've tried reformatting the computer but when the boot disk was used, it gave an error stating that the hard drive could not be recognized even though I've been using the same hard drive for over 3 years now.
Is this a sign of a dead hard drive?
The thinkvantage system restore utility does not work for me either saying that I have the wrong windows password and also do not have the correct answers for the "forgot my password" utility. is there any way to get around that in order to see if I can get my data back?
thanks in advance

try switching the bios sata mode from achi to compatibility.

  • Windows Startup Problems in Bootcamp - 2013 iMac

I installed windows 7 via bootcamp and all seemed to work out well.
But then I downloaded and installed the windows updates and this forced my iMac to restart a few times.
It seems like sparatically on restart it either boots right into windows or before windows starts to load it gets hung up on a white/grey screen. (the iMac is still defaulted to startup windows I haven't changed that yet)
So in the latter scenario I have to hold the power button down to shut off the iMac and then restart and then it loads windows properly.
Is this a common problem or does it sound like something might be wrong?
Maybe something with my bootcamp is wrong?
This is my first imac so maybe it's a common thing?
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

It will make the startup 'bong' and then proceed to show me the Windows loading screen, but then a blue screen with white text flashes briefly and then the screen goes black, and it restarts. This loop does not end of its own volition.
A quick explanation of what's going on, first. What you're getting on start up is a traditional Windows "blue screen of death" or BSOD. (Technically, it's known as a STOP message.) But your XP is currently set up to restart when it gets one of those errors. Since you're getting one when you start XP, you get that constant restarting behavior.
First we need to switch off the "automatically restart" system setting.
Next time you start XP, tap your F8 key repeatedly. That should bring you to the Windows advanced options menu. Select "Safe mode."
Does XP launch in safe mode? If so, right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties". Click the "Advanced" tab. In "Startup and Recovery", click the "Settings" button. Uncheck "Automatically restart" and click OK.
Now attempt to restart XP normally. When the blue screen comes up this time, note down the numnerical and text codes that come up (ie 0x<zeroes-letters-numbers> CAPSANDUNDERSCORES). If the blue screen also mentions a specific file, note that down too (exact spelling please, including filename extensions like .sys or .dll).
Post back to let us know that information, because that may help narrow in on the cause of the BSOD in your particular case.

  • Windows startup problem while connected from LAN.

    Hi arun av,
Have you checked Bulent's sugegstion? Are you using local user profile or roaming user file? When you disconnect LAN, do you have a WLAN avaliable at that time? Try reinstall the driver for youe LAN network adapter
Or maybe related to this policy, when there's something wrong with the LAN, you're stuck on the startup process.
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\  Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon

  • MacBook pro when windows 7 has startup problem and Mac os doesn't work

I installed windows 7 on my MacBook pro and it did work well. But now windows has a startup problem and "startup repair" couldn't solve it, so I can't use both Mac os and windows and my laptop has become completely useless. Any suggestion?

Reboot and hold down command-R at the sound of the chime, that should take you to the Lion recovery partition, if it does go to disk utility and see if you have an OSX partition at all.

  • Windows 7 problem on imac27

Hello, I am new here so please bare with me.
I have the imac27 and a windows 7 disk with me, installed windows7 and its a problem.
It would not install properly, although it did reach the windows installation screen when the imac rebooted..but then when the installation process begins, it shuts down automatically...
So I decided to delete the windows7 from my imac hard-drive and now when you start the imac up it wont work unless you hold the 'alt' key...
Its totally new and I just brought it about 4 days ago...
Some key points that may help: I first installed parralel then windows in parralel, I left it like that, then just installed windows using partition...
using 'mac os x 10.6.1' Im downloading the new update now....
    Thanks for the help..!

Hi, I don't have an answer for your Win7 installation problem, however...
When you hold down 'alt', does the startup screen give you choices on which disk to boot from? If so, I'm guessing that until you figure out how to solve that installation problem, if you use Bootcamp Assistant to undo the partitioning and create just one single drive again, that might solve your startup problems (there would then only be one drive that the computer could start up from).
You could then later try partitioning the drive with Bootcamp again and start over.
If you completed erased and formatted that Windows 7 partition, though, I don't know why you would need to hold down 'alt' to get the computer to start...

  • Boots to windows startup screen, flashes blue screen, restarts and repeats

    HP ENVY H8-1414 Product #H3Z00AAR
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Alright, so here is my issue. I turn on my pc and it gets as far as the windows startup screen, flashes a blue screen error for about half of a second and then restarts it self. My HDD is recognized in the bios. Tried a memory test in diagnostics and it passes.  Tried a hard disc check and it passes the SMART check but fails the Long DST with a failure ID of 0GF21L-0006LR-WPVX0K-61C703 (no idea if those a zeros or O's)
I've also tried the startup repair but it did nothing. So I removed the hard drive and tried to use it in a different PC but had the same issue so I figured the hard drive went bad. Then I tried formatting a spare hard drive and installed a fresh copy of windows 7 on it, tried it on a different PC and it works just fine. However, when I try to use that hard drive on the HP ENVY I get the exact same problem even though it worked just fine on a differenct pc.
I purchased this PC refurbished about 3 months ago, the warrenty just ended a week ago.  There have been no hardware or software changes on it at all. This thing worked flawlessly last night... I locked the computer before bad and I woke up to this. No power outages over night or anything. It just doesn't make any sense.

Here are the specs for your HP ENVY h8-1414 Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model came from the factory with Windows 8 installed. The "blue screen" and restart are normal for Windows 7, when it encounters an error, unless you have altered the default settings.
The LONG DST failure is indicative that the hard drive has failed or is about to fail. Unless the hard drive is moved to an identical or very similar computer, Windows will encounter a "blue screen. This is true with the original hard drive moving from the h8 computer to the other computer and the test hard drive from the other other computer moving to the h8 computer.
Try placing the "test" hard drive in the h8 computer and installing Windows 7 from a DVD or USB stick. If you have any problems, please post back with full error messages and screen shots. Also indicate what stage of the install Windows 7 was doing tat the time.

  • HP G62 Windows Startup error recovery Failure

    Notebook:
    HP G62 - 228CL
    Running Windows 7 64-bit
Hello everyone, I need a bit of help.
My computer will boot windows 7. When I start it up, it tries to boot up.  I then get a Windows failed to boot message on the windows error recovery screen and asks me if I would like to use Windows Startup Repair Tool to fix the Problem. But the tool never starts up. It just leads to a windows background and does nothing. I have also tried using f11 System recovery but it does nothing.

    Hi,
    Firstly, regarding your existing files.
One possible way to try and retrieve your files from a non-booting drive is to follow the process detailed in the link below.  The Ubuntu operating system CD you create can run from the CD alone ( ie it doesn't have to install on the Hard Drive ) and I've often found it to be successful in retrieving data even from a failing Hard Drive.  When you've created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can back up your existing files.
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windo...
Secondly, regarding the replacement of the Hard Drive.
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
    500Gb Hard Drive
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 52 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive - the procedure is described in the HP document Here.
If you don't have your Recovery Discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

  • Why does my OS X 10.6.8 have various applications hang for several minutes, then resume. This is not a startup problem.

I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6.8 a few weeks ago. It seemed to be running OK, so we upgraded another system also. Now both machine are, from time to time, stalling whatever application is running. Everything stops or runs veeeeeeerrrrrry slowly for several minutes even including bringing other windows to the front. The disk runs almost like it is swapping a lot. Then the system frees up and runs normally for a while. This is not a startup problem. I occurrs on systems that have been running for a day or two or more. It happens on an iMac and on a MacBookPro. Neither of them had this behavior before the 10.6.8 upgrade.

    Jocke27 wrote:
What do you mean with corrupt?
Why did you suggest that I created a new profile?
There are cache files and other system files that are created every time a user account is created.  Sometimes these are corrupted in the OS and it really has no bearing on the specific application but it can lead to erratic behavior.  Creating a new user recreates all these system files and thus it's almost like starting fresh.  It's one step shy of re-installation of an OS.  So because changing the user fixed the issue, then we have eliminated the fact that the application is causing the error and we know the OS is causing the error.
I can't just go in to that profile when I want to use?
I wouldn't recommend it.  This can lead to more problems with the OS down the road with other applications and depending on where the corruption lies it can lead to issues with OS upgrades or even installing new software.  The files that are typically most critical to users are stored in the Applications folder or the Documents/Sites/Pictures folders.  You can easily drag them over to a new user account.  If you have email being backed up for a product like Thunderbird you can also bring over many of the Library items as well.

  • Power Manager issues at Windows startup and launching PWMUI.EXE

    Hello everybody.
I looked up the forum, but did not find appropriate solutions.
My OS is MS XP Professional SP3 with the lates updates from MS. And I have 2 issues (seems like interrelated)
Issue-1. An exception occurs on Windows startup:
“RUNDLL: An exception occurred while trying to run “C:\PROGRA~1\ThinkPad\UTILIT~1\PWRMGTR.DLL, PwrMgrBkGndMonitor””.
    After pressing “OK”:
“.NET-BroadcastEventWindow.2.0.0.0.6e8caf.0: rundll32.exe – Application Error: The instruction at “0x783a3457” referenced memory at “0x10069de4”. The memory could not be “read””.
After pressing “OK” following message says that DLL can not be executed or something like that, to send error report to MS.
Issue-2. Power Manager does not launch
When I press Fn+F3 combination, and click “Manage Settings …”, error messages appears:
“Power Manager: Power Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience”. The same situation if I launch “C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities PWMUI.EXE” directly.
    Re-installation doesn’t help.
Current version of Power Manager is 1.0.0.0. However , it offered to download another version 1.3.5 (or something like that) via ThinkVantage System Update.
    Thank you in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thank you very much.
I tried so: 1) uninstall Power Manger (+ ThinkPad PM Driver), 2) launch Cleaner, 3) download and install PM ver 1.89.
The first Windows start was without initial error. I tried to launch PM from Start menu, previous (well known) error message appeared.
After I rebooted, all started from the beginning…
Then I restored my old (shipped from the factory) PM from “C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\PWRMGR”. I saw something strange on the monitor: some windows were with new User Interface, some with old one. “About…” command didn’t respond.
I launched ThinkVantage System Update again. It offered to install new version of PM (in Recommended updated tab) and PM Driver (in Optional updated tab).
After acceptation, installation and restart everything started to work!
To sum up I guess that the root cause was obsolete Driver and System Update utility does not check for driver update (only is absent). Practical evidence says so.
However, now in Advanced mode I have only one Power Scheme: “Timers Off (Presentation)”, in contrast I had several ones in previous version of PM (Energy Star, Maximum Performance, Maximum Battery Life, Source Power Optimized and Timers Off). Is it normal for PM ver 1.89? When I had updated my XP up to SP3, and firstly installed new version of PM, I saw “Video Playback” mode in “Choose Power Scheme” window. Then my PM  broken down.
Of course, it is not so critical for my work, but when you use ThinkPad you always except flatness in HW and SW operation…
    Thank you again.

  • Stuck in Windows Startup Repair Loop - U410

Hey guys, back with another problem. I'm this close to just giving up on this laptop.
I had used the laptop last night like to normally do - emailed some people, checked the mail, wrote some homework up. Shut down normally when I was done. I opened it this morning only to find thecomputer going into Windows Startup Repair.
I shrugged and said okay. the repair happened quickly and it then took me to the normal loading screen.
At which it stayed on loop for about an hour (I was able to watch a movie in the meantime on my phone only to see that it still wasn't done). I then forced shut down through the power button. Waited roughy a minute and then started t up again. This time I picked the option of Start Windows Normally hoping to see if a shut down from there would fix the problem. Only it was stuck on the loading screen for about twenty minutes.
Force shut down again. I went back to starting windows repair like it prompted me to do. Another hour wait at the looping startup screen.
I wish I could post a picture of the thing for you to see.
This is roughly my sixth or seventh time trying to start the computer.
I've also tried that method with the NOVO button as some posts say to do, but nothing is happening.
Should I just take the laptop into my nearest bestbuy or future shop??

I can't seem to access safe mode at all - I did the option of pressing F8 repeatedly but it seemed to ignore it and go into the option of either starting the Repair or running windows normally.
Once it does the repair, it stays on this screen indefinitely. The same goes with trying to start windows normally - it stays on the Loading Windows screen.

  • KT3V Series MS6712 startup problems

No sooner than my last post about adding new drives, l now have the following problem -
XP Home SP3 (old taxan monitor which still works fine)
When l power on the computer, the Ami bios lists all of it's options, says the drives are connected and then just sits there with that screen showing.
I have to power off and on anything up to ten times before the computer gets over this and starts to access the windows startup.
I thought that it may be the hard drive on it's way out but am not too sure as all checks on it say it's ok.
Now when l power on, the same thing happens but the bios display is totally illegible and shaking so much that it all looks like Greek characters made up of lines and dots.
So then l thought maybe it's the monitor on the way out.
When l do the switch off and on routine and it finally gets into windows, the display is solid as a rock and clear as a bell.
Before you suggest it, I've run every cleaner, malaware, spyware and antivirus possible, and everything comes up clean. It's the initial boot of the bios that seems to be causing the problem.
When l hit DEL to try and access the bios, it is now totally illegible.
The bios is AMI Version 07.00T which has worked perfectly until now.
I'm off to do a check of all the connections but in the meantime, has anyone got any other ideas as to what could be causing this?

At the moment l have an out of date mobo, a KT3V MS-6712 version 10A, which has a Riva TNT2 Model 64/64 pro graphics card plugged into the AGP slot, and an AMD Athlon XP (about a 1.2 - 1.3?) processor. I'm running XP home SP3.
I have serious bios problems but cannot get into it as the display has now gone. It needs taking in to the repairers for checking, but hey, for what they charge in labour l can get a new mobo!
I'm not that up on mobo terminology but the board has served me fine. It has 3 ram slots, 6 pci slots, and 2 ide slots
However, should l ever want Windows 7, it wont work on this board because of the graphics adaptor and also something to do with Direct X not being at a high enough level?
So working backwards, and not having to lay out too much cash, l need an MSI board that will take my existing three sticks of ram (crucial technology DDR PC2700 166mhz) will take my existing processor but will allow for a reasonable upgrade if required,
conform to Windows 7, and a reasonably cheap graphics card. I'm not that bothered about SATA slots and IDE will suit me fine as l can then use my existing IDE drive. If the board has both then even better!
So any MSI board recommendations to look at, what AMD processor (something around 2.5?), and what graphics card for the AGP slot.
Sorry to be really dumb, but hopefully you can supply some suggestions.
    Regards

  • Intel SSD 530 startup problems on ThinkPad W520 - Bug in SSD or lack of BIOS support?

The are problems with Intel SSD 530 and ThinkPad W520. Many people, including me, are complaining about startup problems ... see this thread also: https://communities.intel.com/thread/44258
One month ago I bought an Intel SSD 530 240GB to replace the stock HDD of my ThinkPad W520 (4270CTO). When I cold-start the laptop everything is fine, but when I restart it from Windows 7 or even CTRL-ALT-DEL, the drive is not found. Both SSD and W520 has the latest firmware/BIOS.
I had no problems with Intel SSD 335 240GB; Windows starts and restart without problem, but with the Intel 530 it fails when I do restart, the BIOS does not find it after a normal reset. I think BIOS implementation for W520 does not support the newer ATA feature called "Device Initiated Power Management (DIPM) for Software Setting Preservation (SSP)". There is a BIOS update for W530 but not for W520.
Should I assume Intel SSD 530 is and will remain incompatible with ThinkPad W520 or wait for a BIOS update?
    W520 | i7-2720QM | NV Quadro 2000M

I am also seeing the exact same issue. I have a ThinkPad W520 and a Corsair Force GS using a Sandforce 2200 series controller. According to the Intel SSD thread, there is some incompatibility between that controller and Intel QM77-chips which is causing the issue.
The symptoms for my laptop are the same. SSD is always recognized on cold boot, but effectively never on warm boot / restart. Will we get a BIOS update that fixes this?
I have dual boot configuration with both windows 8 and windows 7. The issue is happening regardless of what OS I issue the restart from.
