Table breaking across pages

I have a table that flows to 4 pages through threaded frames. Is the only way to make the table different lengths on each page is to adjust the frame height? Or can you insert multiple break characters throughout the table to have it break where you want it?
Thanks,
Phil

Why not use a hard row break? It's the Table equivalent of page breaks. You can also set Keep with Next Row, and let these handle unwanted breaks.

  • Table split across pages

Is it possible to setup Indesign to automatically split table across frames like Microsoft Word do across pages?

ID splits tables only between cells rows, not mid-row, but it will certainly split a table between frames.

  • Table breaking a page

A strange thing that has happened a few times, and I have found no remedy:
When I paste text including a table in the middle of the page into another document, the table moves to the start of a new page.
This happens even though there is about three inches MORE space below than in the original document.
There are no page or section breaks in the document, ample margins, and there is more than enough space on the previous page, but there is no way to not break the page.
    Any ideas?

If you are copying and pasting from the Internet you are often copying and pasting more formatting and characters than is visible.
    Menu > View > Show Invisibles/Layout
Particularly with tables it is advisable to copy and paste without the formatting and format inside Pages.

  • How to keep together Title + table's line across pages

Hi all, I have a question.
I'm trying to create a .rtf template where I have a table with 4 lines and a title <PROJ_NAME>
I need to repeat this table (with all the necessary information - 4 lines) as many times as the projects' names are stored on the DB.
For example: if the employee has 4 projects, on the report I will see 4 times these table and the relative project name as title.
So, the repeating group mechanism works perfectly, but I am not able to control how the table's lines are splitted across pages....
In other words if I have two pages in my .rtf template and I am at the end of the first page:
    1) I don't want to see the title on the bottom of the first page and the relative table above on the second page (title and table splitted on two differents pages)
    2) I don't want to see the title and a portion of the table on the bottom of the first page and the rest of the table (1,2 or 3 lines) above on the second page (table splitted on two differents pages)
At the end I'd like to see always title and table together even if the page finishes. If the title + table exced the table's vertical border, it has not be splitted, but rewrite entirely (title + table) on the next page.
    The syntax is this:
    <?for-each-group:G_PROJ;./PROJ_NAME?><?PROJ_NAME?>
    TABLE WITH 4 LINES
    <?end for-each-group?>Page break
I tried also, reading the forum, to use the paragraph properties (Keep lines together), but nothing.....
Anyone can suggest me something ?
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

    After the for loop,
take a table (suppose A) with one row and one column. In that table insert the Project name tag. Below that tag, insert an inner table(suppose B) in table A with 4 rows and columns you wish. Now select the outer table A(select the whole table), and in the table properties/Row , in the options , uncheck the 'Allow row to break across pages' property.
    end the for loop.

  • I can't break a table row between pages (going nuts!)

I'm setting a several page table (one of a few I need to set for a book) with long texts in many of the cells. I'm using CS3 InDesign on a new Mac. I've looked at similar threads (been struggling with this all day).
The paragraph style and table style both specify 0 lines to keep together. There is no cell style.
The maximum height for rows is taller than the page.
The Word document I'm importing from lets the rows break across pages.
When I add a row with vertically overset text, the row disappears. If I increase the size of the frame below the page, the row shows up.
I am ready to run screaming into the night.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

It's one of the limitations of InDesign ...
A bad -- but working -- manual way, is to insert a new row below the offending one and copy as much lines as needed into the new one. (Sigh -- I can't believe I'm actually proposing this.)
Send Adobe a Feature Request -- https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform -- because it doesn't qualify as a bug, it's in the Help.

  • In MS Word, it is possible to prevent tables from breaking at page breaks.  So, if a table, when populated with data gets too big for the spae allotted on one page, the table will move in its entirety, to the next page. Can this be done in "Pages"?

I am trying to figure out ow to prevent tables from breaking along a row when there is a page break in "Pages".  This is done in MS Word by going under Table properties under "Rows".   I have a document with small three row tables and I want to keep the tables together and move to the next page in its entirety when there is a page break.  Help!

The table that I don't want to break between rows looks like this, except it fits the width of the page:
    quilt name
    picture of quilt
    source
    Size: XX; Difficulty Level: 3
I inserted a Inline Text box into the document, copied the table inside the text box, then pasted it through the document (which lists quilting projects).  When the table spans a page break, even when in an inline text box, the picture which is in the right hand column splits, as well as the information pertaining to the particular quilt.
Jerry - thank you for your help.  I tried to give you a "solved my problem" rating, but I am adjusting to the Mac slowly after 20+ years on a PC.

  • Issue tabbing across page breaks in dynamic form

    Hi all,
I have a strange problem that I'm having trouble getting to the bottom of, relating to my dynamic form.
This form grows and shrinks depending on how the user fills it out.  I have a questionnaire section where certain questions are hidden or shown depending on previous input.
Things get interesting when I look at the tab order.  Sometimes when tabbing forward or backward across page breaks, the focus lands on a spot that I cannot identify.  There will be no cursor and I can not type.  However if I continue to tab in the same direction, I can see that it is still going in the correct sequence.  It just looks like for some reason, in those places, focus is put in the wrong component.  But if I type different input into the prior fields (ones that affect the length of the pages) that causes the field to move to different place where it's not adjacent to a page break, and then tabbing to the field in either direction works fine.  It seems that only when it's beside a page break, it becomes problematic.
Also, it only seems to be a problem if the field gets moved to be adjacent to a page break AFTER the form is initially rendered.  If the field was originally beside a page break by default, then it seems to work fine.
Just to rule out a possible problem with the tab order configuration, I set my from to Automatic tabs, and even went as far as removing all the <traversal> elements from the form.
After doing either of those things, the problem still persists.
    Has anyone seen this before?

    Hi Eric,
I have seen funny behaviour when tabbing within Preview in LC Designer. It may be picking up a read-only item in the Master Page.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • Break table row across multiple frames?

    Hi
I would know wether is possible to split a single table row across serverla frames/pages.
I´m using InDesign CS5 and when I try to import a big table from word documments (by using de app or by scripting), if a row is bigger than the textFrame, a blank page is generated with the overflow simbol.
The only way to see that table is by enlarging the textFrame.
I´ve been reading about this problem, and some news in 2004 reported it was a problem wich will be solved in next releases.
Is there any way to work arround?
One option is to split de row in several small rows, but I think the proper solution would be to let the row jump to the next TextFrame (just like word does)
    Thanks in advance

I can show you a real example.
    http://www.xunta.es/dog/Publicados/2011/20110615/AnuncioC3F1-140611-3147_gl.pdf
In page 14984 the row with the text "Coruña" span across two pages. Well, in this example, what we did was to convert the table in images. Then the images were put inside each page in InDesign.
This cell is too big to fit in a frameText and it was shown as empty.
Other option would be to split the row before the imporation. In this way, InDesign would, automatically jump to the next page.
The question was if there was any configuration option to implement all this solutions (change the table or convert it to text) without change the table structure.
    Any way, thansk again.

  • Dynamic tables and conditional page break

I have inserted a table in my form and have included an Add New Row button to insert additonal rows.   I want a maximum of 16 rows added with a subtotal field.  I want the table, then to automatically go to a new page with a subtotal field.  At the end of all pages I want to include a total field.   The table goes to the next page after a number of rows are entered, but there is not a break;  the original form continues.  How do conditionally break the page and have a (new) table display in the second page?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Paul,
Thanks for working with me on this.   I have sent a copy to the gmail.com address.  I'm new to LiveCycle, so please forgive me.

Subject: dynamic tables and conditional page break
You can accomplish that with a single table and some creative script. I suggest that you get the table worked out and working correctly then we can add in the page totals and final total afterwards. Once the table is ready email the form to mailto:[email protected] and I will put together a sample for you that shows what to do. Please include a description of what you want to do with the email as the mail message and this forum are not tied together. Also if you have a data file  that fills out the table that would be useful as well.

  • RTF template table does not page break correctly.

I have created a purchase order document template. Each po line has 7 rows that are in a rtf table. When I create the po document the po lines get split between pages but I want to keep all lines and print on the next page. I have unchecked the 'allow rows to break between pages' and that doesn't seem to work. Can anyone provide some assistance.
    thanks,

    Yes, :)
anything is possible, provided the data is there in XML :)
    use <?../../ASSET_NUMBER?>
.. will take you one level up, and use them and go the the level where you the field to be displayed.

  • Subforms across page breaks

In LiveCycle, how do you keep subforms from being split across page breaks?  I'm working an a form in which several subforms can be added or deleted.  If I add enough of any of them, when they get to the bottom of the page, instead of getting a new page the subform splits between the pages.
Here's a basic hierarchy of the form (excluding master pages, content areas etc.)
    MainForm
         PageA
              SubformA
              SubformB
              SubformC
         PageB
              SubformA
              SubformB
              SubformC
         PageC
              SubformA
              SubformB
              SubformC
The subforms that can be added/deleted are SubformA, SubformB, SubformC on each page.
The idea is to have PageA, PageB and PageC always start at the top of the page, and when enough of any of the Subforms are added, the Subform which would be split at the bottom of the page goes to the top of the new next page.   So if I add enough of PageA, SubformA to overflow the page, the last instance of PageA, SubformC goes to the top of a new page, and PageB goes to the top of the following page.

Never mind everybody,  I figured out what I did wrong.
The size of the content area on the master page must be the size of the form minus the space allowed for page headings.
For example, let’s say that you have a form which is 8” wide by 11” long.  On your master page, there is a 1.5” heading which will print on each page across the top of the page.    The content area should be 8” wide by 9.5” long.
I made the mistake of having the content area 8” wide and 11” long, thinking it should be the same as the form size and that the heading on the master page was included in that 11 -inch-length.   Wrong.
When I pressed an add button to add a subform enough times so that the subform would overflow the page, instead of appearing on the top of the next page like I anticipated, the subform appeared to hide underneath the page break and the header of the next page.  That's because the content area wasn't filled yet. It still had another 1.5" to go.  I had to press the add button twice to get a subform to appear on the next page.  In the meantime, the new subforms continued to appear to slide under and hide underneath the page break and next page header.

  • Haw to create dynamic PDF with dynamic flowing tables across pages?

    Hi!
Sorry for my english, I use it very rarely
I try creating PDF form with many tables (example document: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BxTpZtaOkLBbcEJzdGJFcXVSWDJ0RlladUZJd1hMZw). But, when the table or any element hit the bottom of page, they just flow over it. Also in designer elements don't distribute across pages but just disappear on first page bottom. I want to dynamically distribute elements across pages. What I do incorrect?

  • How do I Hide a Row in a Table in a Pages document?

How do I hide a row or column? There is a command to "unhide" but not to hide. Because I cannot hide anything, the unhide command is greyed out - what did Apple do with the Hide Rows command for Tables in Pages? Hide it? lol!
It does not show up in a search of Help - in fact, there isn't even a mention of "unhide" despite there being a command for it!
Why do I want to hide a row? Because if I have an 8 row table in a Pages Template and I only need six of them, deleting the other two breaks all the formulae and inserts #Ref! errors across each formula, rather than automatically altering cell references as other spreadsheets do. In Numbers hiding the cells makes them disappear and does not break the formulae, but this behaviour seems to be missing from Pages.
Or is it me that has missed somethng?

I thought that the descriptions given in the Help are clear.
The ADDRESS function constructs a cell address string from separate row, column, and table identifiers.
    ADDRESS(row, column, [type], [style], [table])
row: The row number of the address.
column: The column number of the address.
I dropped the comments about type, style and table as I don't use them here.
    =IF(ISBLANK(INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),1))),"",INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),2))*INDIRECT(A DDRESS(ROW(),3)))
    INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),1))
returns the contents of the cell whose row is the same than the one containing the formula \[the row number is given by ROW()] and whose column is the 1st one)
    INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),2))
returns the contents of the cell whose row is the same than the one containing the formula \[the row number is given by ROW()] and whose column is the 2nd one)
    INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),3))
returns the contents of the cell whose row is the same than the one containing the formula \[the row number is given by ROW()] and whose column is the 3rd one)
In short, when the formula is applied in row 9 it behaves like:
    =IF(ISBLANK(A9),"",B9*C9)
The long syntax is required to be able to enter it only once in the header cell as described in the Help and in the PDF User Guide in a chapter entitled "Applying a Formula Once to Cells in a Column or Row".
As we want to use such a formula, it would be odd to destroy its ability using a different formula in a standard bottom row.
More, in a footer row, we may use shorter formulas than in other rows.
In a standard row 10 we would have to write =SUM(D2:D9)
in a footer row we enter only =SUM(D) which add the contents of every standard cells of the column D.
This feature is also described in the named resources.
