Table for Mac Pro Desktop

Hi, I am looking for a table for my Mac Pro Desktop only. Preferably with casters to keep it off the floor. I have a desk that I like and would like to free up some space and put the computer on its own table. I have checked one site, Anthro. They have a carrier with casters but it is 20 inches wide, too wide for me. The Mac Pro is only 9 inches wide. Any help would be appreciated.
John

What you want to look for is a CPU stand.

  • Want to upgrade running systems on mac... for mac pro desktop

I have a 2004 Mac Pro Desk top-- Spent a lot on it!!!  Trying to figure out if I can get just a new running system for it and keep everything else-- I have the really large monitor-- but I can't load the newest os software on it...

I think that the vieo card needs to be replaced because the monitor keeps turning off when it gets too hot..  but I was trying to figure out if I could overhaul my system to speed it up and maximize it's functions...  I was thinking 2004 but I think your right-- I believe it was around 2006 that I purchased it...  but I don't want to spend that kind of money again and it still runs-- however, it is more the hub of the house-- and I wanted to use it for our central network with a timecapsule and extended 4 t hard drive running off of that for movies (I know overkill) but we just want to be able to stream the 380 movies we own to any tv in the house through aple tvs...  I am trying to learn more about the running systems and found I can not upgrade to the most recent OS system per apple rep...  so it is the onl mac not running on the upgraded system...  Please be patient with me-- I am not up on the hardware part of things and I need to find that out before I have someone else look at it...  But here is all I had in about this mac--

I don't know if this says anything-- but everything seems to be in slots and I was uncertain why things in those slots couldn't be upgraded or if they are all too interdependent to run together with a upgrade-- for example if I replace or add a processor if the drives would not be accesible because of incompatibility...
So I guess the question is how to upgrade and maximize what I have?

  • Creating A New Boot Drive For Mac Pro Desktop

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 using Lion:
I would like to create a new and bigger boot drive but having not done this before I would appreciate any direction that would make this as painless as possible.   I will continue to use Lion but am a little lost when it comes to doing this with the download process of Lion as well as transferring what has been created on the current HD in the MacPro.  I have a new WD Black 2 TB SATA that I would like to use as the new boot drive.  Again, thank you for the help.

Don't. Use. 2TB for system. Seriously.
    Use that for data.
Get yourself a $89 Samsung 840 120GB instead along with Icy Dock $15. You will. Love it.
You don't need a large drive for the system. All you need to do is MOVE all the data and media files and every thing else, just leave the small 4GB /Users/myuseraccount/Library on the boot drive with the OS and apps. Everything else gets off loaded.
Leave your drive you ahve now as is for backup. Move data and clone the system.

The destination storage device (SSD drive or hard drive) you are migrating to should be physically located in the same computer.  Moving operating system files from one computer to another computer using software not specifically designed for that computer can cause issues due to software, hardware, and firmware version mismatches.

  • HT1727 i bought some ringtones on my iPhone, later on i sync my iphone to my old computer now i have a new mac pro desktop and i only have 2 ringtones on my phone but not the rest of them how can i get them back without having to pay for them again?

i bought some ringtones on my iPhone, later on i sync my iphone to my old computer now i have a new mac pro desktop and i only have 2 ringtones on my phone but not the rest of them how can i get them back without having to pay for them again?

If you bought them on your iPad then you will need to connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to the Tones part of your computer's iTunes library and you can then sync them to your iPhone - ringtones are a one-time only download, so you won't be able to redownload them directly on your phone.

  • Where and what type of solid state drive should I buy for my early 2008 Mac Pro Desktop??

where can I buy and what type of solid state drive should I use to upgrade my early 2008 Mac Pro Desktop??

    Rick,
When you get a chance.... DSLReports is off line: their SQL server decided to take its indexes and access to data. Power. Not enough of the right kind of UPS. Same happened to StorageReview's "Drive Reliability Database" about 8-9 yrs ago.
    dslreports.com is offline
    Fri Apr 20 09:05:55 EDT 2012
SSD: Loading CS5 plus other little monsters might matter.
    Lots of small I/Os
latency of 1/100th where nanoseconds replace those "long" milliseconds
    System: Small and fast.
DLLoyd even goes for short-stroking drives to get and maintain highest I/O
The new 10k VRs hit 200MB/sec - I still use them and still find them useful, long lasting, feel responsive with whatever I ask of them. I know they get criticized and "cost too much"
Just bought a new WD Black and yes it is better than the 2008 model I was using.
600GB 10K $200 vs $150-220 for WD Black. your choice
I can destroy a 7.2k drive, I have brought ever 10K drive back after a simple WD Extended Test in Lifeguard.
    I don't really care about $$/GB or I wouldn't have just bought Intel 128GB $149
Database: the pros put the index in memory and page fix (virtual volumes in memory; cache; hold disk drive index in memory). Caching storage has been around for almost 40 yrs.
Today you can use SSDs as front end cache to hold DB indexes and frequent data for web servers and such adn use slower secondary storage.
    SSD + SAS + 4TB storage
Separating the system from data: #1 must
Having data on array: been what I use
I put a large photo library on 2 x 10K VRs vs SSD and couldn't tell much difference (SSD is soundless of course) But my WD Blacks make as much noise and run 15*C hotter than those 10K (not what you expect?)
While 10K and 7.2K are in the 140-180MB/sec range, they are in 3.0 to 12.0 ms seeks, not  0.01 ms.
People wonnder why shrink a drive to 2.5" (or why not go down to 1.8".
How long does it take to reposition a disk head? how often? the 10K VR travels on outer tracks at 70 MPH. Really trying to fly off into space.
It uses one step to find the "zip code" and then another DSP to find the "house."
True of any high density perpendicular recording mechanism.
And of course while the Raptor-X tried to find a home with famers, Cheetah buyers, the WD 10K line has more of a home where servers and small form factor drives - and 100s of them - can fit in a rackmount server I imagine.
Anyway.... if SR and DSLReports can drop out of site due to power and hardware failure and loss... we can learn some and hope to protect our own data and investments.

  • Mac Pro desktop Dual 3.0 Xeon Osx10.7.5 12 GB why do my cooling fans speed up for no apparent reason?

Got a 2006 mac pro desktop, dual 3.0 Xeon, running OSX 10.7.5, and sometimes, the fans will speed up, and run at max, even though the CPU is running cool... sleeping the computer for a minute, and then turn it back on seems to stop it for a while. Any ideas?

It would be a 5160, stock? and could be faulty FBDIMMs even.
You have never had this before and you have run 10.7.5 for.. year or more? and didn't make any changes, software or hardware?
What does iStatPro or Hardware Monitor show for sensor and fan readings? More helpful than "max" or as to how cold it runs.

  • HT1338 I own the Mac Pro Desktop with the older OS X 10.5.8. Can I upgrade to a newer version?

I own the Mac Pro Desktop with the older OS X 10.5.8. Can I upgrade to a newer version? Will it affect my docs etc currently stored on hard drive's? How much will this cost?

If you have a 2006 or 2007 model you can upgrade it to Lion - 10.7.x. If it's a 2008 or later model you can upgrade to the current version of Mountain Lion. Doing so requires Snow Leopard 10.6.8:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
Back up your current system to an external drive or to an available internal drive by making a bootable clone:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • Space not available on Mac Pro Desktop

When i brough the Mac Pro Desktop in late 2009, i got 1 TB of disk space; currenty i see a no space available error on my desktop. i checked by Mac Pro setting and it only shows me that 500 Gb is full, but i cannot find a trace for the rest of the 500 Gb.
My apple warranty has expired on this equipment, so any ideas anyone ?
    Please advise

The message has nothing to do with low disk space. There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory. That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The process named "Safari Web Content" renders web pages for Safari and other applications. It uses a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider it a prime suspect.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing softwre. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. If you don't use an HP printer, remove the software. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • Full backup ( ~ 1 TB ) using external HD - speed USB vs. Firewire vs. eSATA  - what are relative speeds - how to install eSATA on mid-2010 Mac Pro desktop ( dual hex-core processors)_

        Hi All,
I'm trying to resume regular scheduled Full backup ( ~ 1 TB ) of drives using external HD (to allow off-site redundant backup storage) .
What are relative speeds of USB vs. Firewire vs. eSATA ?
I suspect eSATA connection may be considerably faster … how to install eSATA on mid-2010 Mac Pro desktop ( dual hex-core processors)?
( The quicker and easier backup protocol is, the more likely one is to use it to backup on a routine repetitive basis.)
    Thanks

Adding a USB 3.0+eSATA PCIe card, which The hatter mentions, is the best solution that I've found. See http://eshop.macsales.com/item/CalDigit/FASTA6GU3/. The card is not cheap, but the USB 3.0 works flawlessly (which can't be assumed; ask me how I know) and the eSATA connection allows booting from the connected drive. Grant Bennet-Alder's point about HD speed is important to consider; in addition, the size of the individual files being backed up and where on the backup disk they're going will affect overall transfer speed. For example, using the USB 3.0 connection on that CalDigit card going to a Toshiba 3TB external, the transfer rate for a big file (say a virtual machine file) from an internal SSD boot drive was about 145 MB/sec while a bunch of little files might drop to 30 MB/sec and both rates decrease as an inner partition on the external is used. All told, a nearly 700 GB backup took under 1.5 hours. Using a HD as the source added almost an extra hour, though a WD external was used for that. Using a WD green drive plugged into this http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/FWU3ES2HDK/ with an eSATA connection took about 2.5 hours also, but that was bootable whereas the USB 3.0 connection is not.
Another point to consider is that USB 3.0 is ubiquitous on PC's now so there's lots of price competition for externals; not so much for eSATA externals.

I have had nothing but but troble out of this 27" display no microphone the misplay will stop working
when avery thing was new you told me that a fix would be out soon but 2 years later not a thing

be sure you are not confusing "AirPlay Mirroring" and Display Mirroring.
AirPlay Mirroring is not supported in that Model Mac, only in Macs with Intel integrated graphics:
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X
Your Mac does support Mirroring of displays, and always has. The settings for this are in:
    System Preferences > Displays  ...
    ... [√] Mirror displays

  • What do I do with Mac Pro desktop fans running without extra heat?

My Mac Pro desktop has begun running the fans without the computer being hot or even warm. Is it a hardware fix? I tried shutting down and unpluging for 15 sec. to reset the SMC. No help.

Pushed power button before removing power cord for 15 sec. restart
I should have said, but felt it clear enough... Hit power button WHILE or AFTER UNPLUGGED and before connecting power again.
Apple has changed and rewritten its "How To" article at least 4-5 times just for the Mac Pro section in the last 7.5 yrs.
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Using the reset button on a motherboard is always an option and was in the first set of directions, with arrow pointing to the exact button and its location back in 2006-7.
Just unplugging is... not effective, and hitting power button while unplugged, helps, some.

  • ATI Radeon X1900XT 512 MB  for mac pro first  gen

I am looking for a new graphics card for my first generation mac pro desktop (built 2006)  Currently has ATI Radeon X1900XT 512 MB  installed   Any suggestions on where to find one
Alternative may be to get a new machine

For me, the best place for any type of upgrade on your Mac Pro 1,1 (mine is a 2.66) is at Other World Computing.
The only video card available from OWC is the ATI Radeon 5770 HD.

Note: The same video card is also available at the online Apple Store.
I'm hoping to get it soon.

  • Can I safely plug a Mac Pro desktop, bought in America, into a UK socket?

My father bought a Mac Pro desktop from America and the cable to plug it to the electricity says 125 volts - can we plug it safely into a UK socket where the voltage is 250 volts without damaging the desktop computer, or, do we need to do something else first?
I would like to thank you in advance for any replies ofered as an answer to this question!

    Electrical and operating requirements
Line voltage: 100-120V AC or 200-240V AC (wide-range power supply input voltage)
Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz single phase
Current: Maximum of 12A (low-voltage range) or 5A (high-voltage range)
    Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
    Storage temperature: -40° to 116° F (-40° to 47° C)
Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
    Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet
    from:
Mac Pro (Mid 2010) - Technical Specifications
So, it appears that No Transformer is required for this model for UK power (240V AC 50 Hz).
In the long run, you may want to purchase a local Power cord (rather than running with a plug spliced onto the USA AC-power cord). Be sure to connect the Earth Ground for safe and reliable operation.
