Taking apart a HP G71-329WM laptop to replace the keyboard

Can anyone please supply some good info on taking apart a HP G71-329WM laptop? I am wanting to replace the keyboard which has several stuck keys. I already have a replacement keyboard but am not sure on what all needs to be loosened and where? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
My suggestion: bring it to the shop and talk directly with support/saleperson there first.

  • How do I safely replace the keyboard on my laptop?

    Hi everyone.
I have a TouchSmart tm2-2150us laptop and one of the keys has broken. The hinge and plastic cup have broke off as well. I doubt I'll be able to fix it. I'd hate bringing it in to a shop to get fixed, so is there any safe way that I could remove the keyboard that is on my laptop right now, and replace it with a new one? A step by step guide or video would be helpful. Thanks

    Hello @charlie27 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for the information about the keyboard! I'll see what I can do to help
First, make sure the basic troubleshooting is done by trying these steps: Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)
Also, I think it would be a good idea to take apart the keyboard, or some of it, to determine if the keys are obstructed somehow. Some information on the supported method of cleaning the keyboard is mentioned in this document: Cleaning your Notebook PC
If this does not resolve the issue, I would reinstall Windows on the computer. The issue at this point would be software related, to some unknown extent. A recovery will address any software issue. First, make sure you backup everything you need to. Here is some information on how to do this: Backing Up Your Files
Once this is done, it is safe to reinstall the computer. Here is some additional information on how to do this properly: Performing an HP System Recovery
Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks and have a great day!

  • Taking Apart the MBP Screen?

I would like to check and insure that the camera cable in my MBP's screen is secure. It is non-functional and may be the source of a sleeping problem for my laptop.
All I want to do is look, and if there is some kind of simple, basic disconnection, plug it back in.
Has anyone done this, or know how to get the MBP display module apart?

Nevermind, I see here that taking apart the screen requires taking apart the main computer module as well.

  • G71-329wm No power light

I am trying to troubleshoot a no power problem with a HP G71-329WM. No lights , fan or beeps.
I am not familiar with the history of this unit.
A scrutiny of the mobo reveals no obvious problems with caps, diodes, liquid damage etc.
Taking readings from the 6 pin plug at the mobo, I get 19+v from the 2 red wires off either blk grnd.,
(from 2 pwr adapters) but have not been able to find what the white and yellow should read.
    Does anyone know?
Or other locations to pinpoint a problem?

Unfortunately, this likely indicates that there has been a failure of a internal power supply component. If you have an Apple store in your area, I suggest that you take it to them to have them verify and go over your options with you.
Otherwise, you can contact Apple directly to get the process going.

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01713747.pdf
Replacement optical drives with HP part numbers can be found in Chapter 3, page 33.
You can also read the instructions in chapter 4 on removing the drive and getting the part number off of it which will be normally found on a white sticker.  A 6 digit-3 digit part number (123456-001)
You can search by the part number on eBay for a used but working device or you can probably buy one new from HP by entering the part number at the link below.

  • Taking apart a Satellite 1130-z24

How do I take apart the TOSHIBA SATELLITE 1130-z24?
It has a lot dirt (brown cotton wool like stuff) inside which the hoover can't get rid of (as its to far in), but i want to take it apart clean the fluff, re-assemble it and use the laptop.
I took all the screws out (i could see) under the laptop it but still no joy, the case will not come apart.
Down loaded the user manual but that doesn't tell you how to do this.
Is there a technitions manual i can down load so it can tell me how to safely take it apart.

    Hi
The disassembling manuals cannot be downloaded from the Toshiba page.
I didnt find any and I assume such manual are created just only for a Toshiba authorized service partners and are not released for public usage.
Maybe you will find some picture or details in the internet. Google is your friend always ;)
But generally speaking, its really tricky to disassemble the notebook and I would not recommend doing this if you dont know how to proceed.
From my knowledge on most notebooks the keyboard must be removed firstly because there could be some screws which secure the other parts and covers.
Sorry but I cannot provide more details because the Satellite 1130-z24 is not known to me

  • No sound after Windows 10 free upgrade from WIN7 on G71-340US laptop with IDT CODEC.

After free upgrade from WIN7 to WIN10 my laptop no longer has any sound (with internal or external speakers). I have tried uninstalling IDT driver and allowing Windows 10 to reinstall the driver through scan for HW changes - still no sound. I would appreciate any guidance or fixes for this problem. Thank you.

I am happy to report I now have sound on my G71-340US laptop. After further trial and error troubleshooting I found that there is an app called IDT PC Audio (aka IDT HD Sound) installed on my laptop by HP (OEM) I think. While I'm not exactly sure what this app's function is it appears it is related to activating IDT HD Codec drivers functionality. Somehow I decided to look in Task Manager - Startup and saw this IDT PC Audio listed. I clicked on disable and then a minute later clicked on enable. After I did that, as simple as it appears, I now was able to hear sound both on internal and external speakers. This is the first time I heard any sound since upgrading to WIN10. I have checked it several times by re-booting my laptop and each and every time I now have sound. I'll continue to test this through the week and see if it continues to be OK. Meanwhile, I thought I would share this potential fix (or workaround) with all concerned. Perhaps others will find this useful and provide me your feedback. Keeping my fingers crossed! PS. BTW, if anyone out there knows what IDT PC Audio is by all means share your knowledge. I am curious why this app doesn't appear more often in the forum posts and how it may relate to the WIN10 upgrade. Sorry, but I don't recall what prompted me to look at Task Manager - Startup but I'm glad I did. It's great to hear sound again!
