  • Taking rollback segment and datafile offline caused application error

One of the DBA's added a large rollback segment which caused the rman backup to abort. The rollback segment was taking offline and it's datafile was taken offline, all went normally no errors. An Application started gettting errors the database and application were taking down and up, no errors on either but the problem was still there. The rbs datafile and RBS were placed back online and the application worked properly. It looks as if Oracle let us take the RBS and datafile offline with active segments in the RBS is this possible?? If so it means you can pull the rug out from under Oracle and it doesn't even complain

Pls check any transactions written in application level,
explicitly assigned to the RBs which was taken offline.

You've marked your question answered - was that a mistake?
The answer is that you cannot directly take a datafile offline in noarchivelog mode. You must take the tablespace offline:
Hmm, are you certain about that? Perhaps I'm missing something.

    Altering Datafile Availability

  • Taking a datafile offline

    Hello -
I am running an Oracle 8.1.7.4 database in archivelog mode. Can I take a datafile offline, rename the datafile, then bring the datafile back online?
    For example,
    1. alter database datafile 'string' offline;
    2. rename the datafile at the os level
    3. alter database rename file 'string' to 'newstring';
    alter database datafile 'newstring' online;
While the datafile is offline, does this cause errors if an attempt is made to access the datafile?

Of course, as already posted, data in the offline datafile are not available, so you cannot access them. In my case, those data were previous years accounting data, and people asked for mounting removable disks when they needed them.

  • TS3276 my smtp server shows offline. I've tried taking all accounts offline and then back on with no effect

email was working fine and then I couldnt send mail from my bellsouth.net account. The smtp server is (offline). I tried taking all accounts offline and then back on. This didn't help.
I can send email from my iphone or webmal on my windows based desktop.
Any suggesstions? I'm not a very experienced Mac user.

What were the results of taking all the applicable steps in the support article?

  • Problem with text resizing and moving

After much pain with this issue, I'm going to ask for help.
The whole issue(s) resolves around text upsizing, changing and moving in Muse.
No amount of grouping, layering and locking has stopped this issue for me.
I don't have divs that are a pixel off and whatnot. This happens even when I have a blank site and I test it (as seen in the example pic below).
The majority of the time, this is an issue when viewing Muse created sites on Android, although text does move when viewed on iOS.
    Example 1:
I have a square div. I put text in the div that I want to stay contained in the div. Basic right?
View site on browsers and iOS devices it generally plays by the rules (although not always, there are some movement going on). When viewing this example text and div on an android device, the text resizes larger. This results in the text overlapping the div and moving EVERYTHING below it down. This makes it impossible to tightly design anything for a website.
I know Android has options within it for users to set text viewing size, but this worthless from a web designer standpoint. That is something I can't control.
    Example 2:
I have 1 text field and set the typeface to 15. There is nothing else on the page, just a background image (under "Fill"). Viewed on browsers and iOS looks fine. When viewed on Android this text balloons to some enormous size (25+) that makes the website utterly useless. This random resizing makes it impossible to design to.
    Example 2.5:
I take that same text from example 2, copy it into 2 of the same size text fields. They are placed next to each other, taking up the same width as Example 2. It now looks like 2 columns of text. Set the typeface to 15 again. I view it on Android and get the resizing issues from example 1 not example 2. It's noting to the extent of example 2 but like example 1, it still changes enough to ruins any design I'm trying to accomplish.
Is there any place in Muse to lock the text? I don't want to make the text into an image (obviously).
I been dealing with this in Muse for 6 months and haven't been able to find anything online or in forums about. I understand with the bevy of platforms out there nothing will look the same across the board, but right now I don't see how I can continue working with this issue.
Am I the only one dealing with this?
    Thank you for any assistance.

Welcome to the annoying realities of working with text on websites... Nothing you describe is unique to Muse.
Every browser has it's own text engine and thus each line breaks text differently. Even the exact same web page on the same computer with the same fonts will sometimes result in different line breaks in different browsers, or even in different versions of the same browser. It's just a side effect of the nature of determining a line break, where even the most miniscule difference in calculations can result in an entire word fitting, or not fitting.
There are two "tools" that are especially important to understand and use effectively in order to create designs that work as effectively as possible with the variation in line breaks from one site viewer to the next.
    Text Frame Height Always Matters
If a text frame is drawn to the exact height of the text wthin the frame, then any increase in the number of lines of text due to changes in line breaks will result in the text frame growing and other objects below the text frame being moved down.
If a text frame is drawn larger than the height of the text then when line breaks change the text frame won't grow unless the changes in line breaks are severe enough to result in the flowed text being taller than the text frame was originally drawn.
If you resize a text frame smaller than the text within the frame in Muse Design view, the frame will snap back to be large enough to accommodate the text, but a dotted horizontal line will appear within the text frame indicating the "minimum height" for the text frame. If line breaks change in the browser the text frame will grow or shrink in height down to the minimum height indicated by this dotted line.
Careful sizing of text frames can go a long way to creating a design that will continue to work well even when line breaks, and thus text frame heights change.
    Grouping Has Consequences
As part of the output process, Muse collections the objects you've drawn into a hierarchy of horizontal groupings, vertical groupings, or stacks. When line breaks change in different browsers and text frames change height, when the text frames are located in this output heirarchy determines what impact the change in height has on other objects (if any).
For example, if you have a layout that looks like a 2x2 grid of text frames, by default Muse will interpret it to act as two colums. So if the first text frame gets taller it will push the text frame below it down, but won't impact the location of the two text frames in the second column.
If that's not the behavior you want, the way to tell Muse to treat things differently would be to group the two items in the first "row". This would cause the top to to be treated as a horizontal group. If anything in the group grows taller than the group, the group resizes taller and pushes the objects below it down. Thus if the top to items are grouped, if either one of them grows taller than the group it would push both the text frames below downward.
The 2x2 grid is just a simple example of the concept. In most cases you don't have to do anything special to get the behavior you want, but it is important to understand grouping has this ramification. Grouping an arbitrary set of objects on your page can result in undesired behavior when text frames resize in the browser.
For the Andriod screenshot you've provided, I don't have an immediate explanation. For us to explain what's shown we need to know the exact browser, browser version, Android version and device the screenshot is for. It would also be immensely helpful to have the URL for the page, so we can attempt to reproduce what you're seeing and view the exact code involved.

  • How can you take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in.

As the title says I need help on how to take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in. Right now when I want to move a picture from one event to another I drag it to my desktop then delete it from iPhoto then I drag it back into iPhoto and put where I want it.An example would be taking a photo from the Christmas event and add it to a specific person event.  Can I do that within the events section without all the dragging. Also is there anyway I can remove duplicates from iPhoto without going through each and every file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple doesn't make it easy to do what you want.  However, here's how I do it.
Select the photo you want to move and create a new Event for it via the Event ➙ Create Event menu option.
In the Event mode select the new Event with the one picture and drag it onto the Event you want to move the photo to.

    Hi
As alway use this information for research purposes only.
I presume that Oracle and SAP application servers are down.
Now would be a good time to make a backup image of your crippled system.
This way you can always get back to this state if needed.
So do an offline backup if possible.
It looks like a log file is damaged or deleted. You may find that you have a
mirror image of it so this might not be the end of the world.
If you have oracle up to the mount point e.g.
    startup mount
then you should be able to acces the v$logfile
    select  GROUP#,STATUS,MEMBER from v$logfile;
This will show you whether the have a mirror setup for the log file you need.
Make sure all the files outlined in this output exist.
e.g. do a DIR in the parant directory.
Post all the output of v$logfile and whether all the files exist.
    regards
    Stephen

  • No Online backups due to datafiles offline than I canu0092t recover. How...?

    Hi gurus!!!
I got into a problem with some datafiles.
We have MySAP in a BD oracle 9.2.0.6

    Hi,
    alter database datafile offline drop;
This command is not meant to drop a datafile. It is meant to offline the datafile with the intention of dropping the tablespace.
For a tablespace comprising multiple datafiles you can only drop a datafile by dropping the entire tablespace, this will work even you have one datafile.
If you have 10gr2, it's finally possible to drop a datafile as long as
it's not the only datafile within the tablespace, and
the tablespace is only and in read-write status.
So since you are on 9i your situation in summary:
If you have more than one datafile in the tablespace and you wish to keep the objects that reside in the other datafile(s) which are part of this tablespace, then you must export all the objects inside the tablespace.
    1. Gather information on the current datafiles within the tablespace by running some query to remember the t/s, segment, and datafile info.
    2. Export all the objects that you wish to keep.
    3. Once the export is done, issue the DROP TABLESPACE <tablespace name> INCLUDING CONTENTS.
    4. Delete the datafiles belonging to this tablespace using the operating system.
    5. Recreate the tablespace with the datafile(s) desired, then import the objects into that tablespace.
Hope this helps and good luck,
    George

  • Datafile offline in reade only mode

i read the oracle9i reference and it show me the message
'Read-only mode does not restrict database recovery or operations that change the
database’s state without generating redo data. For example, in read-only mode:
Datafiles can be taken offline and online
Offline datafiles and tablespaces can be recovered
The control file remains available for updates about the state of the database'
first one the message show me is 'datafiles can be taken offline and online' , i think this tell me i can change the datafiles's state online to offline, so when i use
alter database datafile test.ora offline is a error ora-01145 in the noarchivelog mode
but it is successful in the archivelog mode
so could anyone tell the distinct of two mode the database and tablespace offline

    The docs are at http://tahiti.oracle.com.
No doubt while reading the docs you will find other valuable information that someone writing you a short paragraph would omit.

  • Datafile offline drop

    Dear all,
In my DB, one datafile got corrupted. DB running in noarchive log mode. I took a complete export of the DB. now I took the datafile offline by
    alter database datafile 7 offline drop;
now I can able to open the database, now what should I do ?.. still in dba_data_files, this corrupted file is shown..shall I drop this file alone ?.. how ?..I have already 2 other datafiles in the same tablespace ..
    Kai

In my DB, one datafile got corruptedHOW??
alter database datafile 7 offline drop; It seems you are using version lower than 10g.This will offline the datafile with the intention of dropping the tablespace.Oracle no longer attempts to access it, but it is still considered part of that tablespace. The datafile is marked offline in the controlfile. So, you will see the datafile in the dba_data_files.The data in the offline datafile won't be available to the users.
But from 10g and higher version, you can finally drop the datafile
    alter tablespace tbs_name drop datafile 'datafile_name';
    10g link [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/dfiles.htm#sthref1396]

  • FRA´s datafile directory and tape backups

    Hi again,
I have tried to find relevant information for my question, but instead of finding answers (again) which may or may not be helpful I hope someone can explain me.
We are running 10Gr2 databases with FRA´s enabled, currently backupping all using Oracle´s suggested backup to Disk devices.
Since we have copies of the datafiles in the FRA which takes up quite some (productional) storage space we are asked to stop the Disk backups, and backup things up to the tape device, which underwater is a TSM library.
How would this affect the occupance of the FRA? Will the datafile directory in the FRA be moved to the "tape" device if we implement (solely) tape backups; or is it only the backupsets and autobackups which would then be moved to tape?
I have tried several setups for which I wanted to set the datafile, backupset and autobackup directory out of the FRA, but I have not found a (working) way yet to set the datafile directory apart from it.
Advice or help are greatly appreciated.
    Robin

Changing the backup location from FRA to an external device will only effect backups (backupsets or image copies of datafiles, controlfiles, spfile, archivelogs). Possible (but not mandatory) components of FRA are archivelogs, backup pieces, controlfiles, online logs, image copies and flashback logs.
For performance reasons it's better to continue using the FRA as first backup device. Extend your backup strategy by backing the FRA itself to tape in regular intervals.
'BACKUP RECOVERY AREA' backs up recovery files created in the current and all previous flash recovery area destinations. Recovery files are full and incremental backup sets, control file autobackups, archived logs, and datafile copies. Flashback logs, the current control file, and online redo logs are not backed up.
The backup must go to a tape device, so RMAN issues an error if no sbt channels are allocated or configured.
    Or use
'BACKUP RECOVERY FILES'. It backs up all recovery files on disk, whether they are stored in the flash recovery area or another locations on disk. Recovery files include full and incremental backup sets, control file autobackups, archived logs, and datafile copies.

As stated, every time I move the map with the mouse or zoom the map using any method the map blinks into "offline" condition to redraw. This is not only annoying but drastically slows down work flow.
    How can this be stopped?

    Thanks,

To see what I see, turn off your internet by shutting off your wireless card or disconnecting your ethernet if hard wired. The map will turn into a grey full-earth map and have the note "map is offline."
Woody 77 may be correct but the problem follows me from location to location and happens when others are getting no problems at all.
I was wondering if there was some form of optimizing I could do to improve performanc. Perhaps I am having a problem with my airport card.

  • Printer offline and error state

Just moved and installed printer HP 4200C series to my laptop with Window 8.  Got the successful window.  The printer shows offline (no drop down menu to chose online) and if I try to print, it says the printer is in a state or error.  Tried suggestions from forum but no go.

    Hello kokua,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see you are having some errors when trying to print, such as "Offline" and "Printer is in error state". I am at a little bit of a loss as to what printer you are using however, the 4200c is a Scanjet. Can you take a second look on the printer for its model number?
In the mean time, run the Print and Scan Dr on the computer, let me know what passes, fails, is fixed, etc.

  • Adding a menu and moving buttons

I have 6 menus that were created by dragging my video track in and selecting set assest and create chapter markers. I set the chapter markers in final cut.
The show is in 2 Acts. However, my video assest is all one continuous track with chapter markers set for each song. There are 33 chapter markers and the program created 6 menus to accommodate all of the song choices.
I created a "go to ACT 2 menu" button on menu. Selecting this button is set to go to menu #4. However, this menu has the end of ACT 1 buttons and my first track of ACT 2 as well. What is the simplest way to separate the tracks on this menu and push everything forward? I think I need to create at least one more menu to contain all of the songs. I'm not sure how to approach taking buttons with songs associated with them and moving them to another menu.

    thx!!

Simply cutting and pasting the buttons from one menu to another should keep their assets and targets.
However, your description of the chapter index menu creation process sounds a little strange.
I would recommend applying the index template you are starting with to a new menu, then customize it with the number of buttons you want. make sure to keep the buttons named PREV UP and NEXT, as these names are used for the buttons that navigate between the different index menus.
Once you have customized the menu, use it to create a new template.
Now take your track and option-drag it to the button on your main menu that will connect to the chapter index menus and choose "create chapter index: make connections". This is not the button for which you should use the track as the asset.
DVDSP will ask you to choose your chapter index template. Now each chapter should show up as the motion thumbnail for each chapter button.
    Hope this helps -
